A change in strategy...

  • First, the Democrats told you that a majority of Americans would see a tax increase, if the new tax laws took effect.
  • Then the tax cuts were passed, and the Democrats demanded that Americans would only see scraps. Only the rich would see a break.
  • Now that the tax cuts have been enacted, the Democrats are demanding that the Treasury and IRS got the tax tables wrong.

Let's start with the basic premise that the Democrats have been factually lying to you all along. They knew that people would get a tax break, but hoped that they could torpedo support for the law by basically lying to people about it. Once it was passed, they begrudgingly conceded that they had been lying about tax increases, but that the tax breaks would be unworthy. Now they are attempting to create doubt as to whether or not the Treasury and IRS are playing games with the process to make tax cuts look better than they are.
Senate Finance Committee ranking member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and House Ways and Means Committee ranking member Richard Neal (D-Mass.) have asked the Government Accountability Office to take a look at the new withholding tables. “The real question with respect to withholding is being straight with the American people, and if you play games with this in order to advance a political agenda, [then] Americans get hurt," Wyden said.
The funny thing about this statement is that there is an accusation without a real accusation. Wyden is literally not suggesting that he knows anything or has any basis for his complaint. He brings forth no quotes or suggestions from any tax specialists who have seen the law and calculated it differently. Brings forth no legitimate suggestion from anyone that there is any evidence that the tables are wrong. It's quite literally some Politicians huffing and puffing about something with the blatant attempt to "cause" suspicion, without any tangible reason to do so.

Another lie right off by CH......No wonder why I don't really read your drivel....

First, the Democrats told you that a majority of Americans would see a tax increase, if the new tax laws took effect.

Which is true when played out over the life of the plan and parts expire.....

It's already scheduled, when our cuts are expired and the rest left (or increased?)

Then the tax cuts were passed, and the Democrats demanded that Americans would only see scraps. Only the rich would see a break.

Pretty much true - my tax break is taken up by insurance premium increases. Which of course we knew would happen. If I was a multi-millionaire or a corporation though I'd be setting pretty with a huge windfall.

Now that the tax cuts have been enacted, the Democrats are demanding that the Treasury and IRS got the tax tables wrong.

Innuendo, but who cares if the Representative wants to double-check the withholding tables? It's their job after all, and what could it hurt?

So let's roll back you taxes and give you a tax increase as well as a premium increase.

But you can take comfort in the fact that those dirty rich corporations and people won't be getting their windfall.

Nevermind that they had cut payroll to make up for it.

Yeah, that's a winning argument WP.

The premiums went up in part because of anticipation of eliminating the mandate, all part of the same package.

How about lower taxes as promised ("huge" middle class tax cuts), and lower insurance as also promised? Bottom line is, take-home improvement basically IS scraps.

Don't fall for political shell games, even from your own team. We'll never see true reform if we keep accepting that.

Sure lets pay what we owe as congress has added 3 trillion to the deficit with new spending and tax cuts as you bitch about silly things.....The premium increases were covered well by the press you hate with the reason being reduced incentive for semi healthy people from participating...Oh well, surprise surprise you can thank your potus for a great job on replacement, which nothing has been done or will get done....But idiots like you are happy as you take it up the ass again....

Well all I know is that my insurance premium went up $15 a week.

While my net take home went up $200 a week due to the tax cuts.

If you want to call that a shell game you're welcome to it.

"CRUMBS" NannystateNancy

What raises and bonuses did the businesses run by Democrats in the US House of Representatives and US Senate award thier employees?

My policy cost have done down $1200 a year. Because I don't have to buy shit I never needed.

WP, your employer could have taken the Corp tax cut to off set your rise. The fact that they didn't, well.

Also, Which is true when played out over the life of the plan and parts expire...".

You think that the Dems will not extend them😁

The take home increase was the equivalent to about a 3% raise. My insurance (employer based) had an increase of about $5.00/month.

So logically... if you got scraps, it's because you earn scraps.

If you are purchasing your insurance from the exchanges... well then god help you. Nobody I know has ever been happy with that. Rates have been going up every year. There is "always" an excuse that seems to suggest that it's not the poor design of Obamacare.

$2,500 Per year obamacarelessness.

When do those cuts show up, $17,500 behind. Get the Dems to work to deliver on that "Lie of the YEAR".

But I find it amusing that no Democrats are claiming a tax decrease... meaning they all must earn nothing. Because I am hardly rich, and I saw a decent addition to my paycheck.

I also find it amusing that it's always Democrats who see the $200/month raise to their health insurance (but only when they can blame it on something the GOP or Trump did).

Perhaps if Democrats got higher paying jobs where they got employer based insurance... they wouldn't have to complain as much about their financial problems.

Hi Dennis how are you this fine USA day. We in the USA are living in the Greatest Nation in the World.

How is your team China doing?

can be an odd thing having Nancy Pelosi as your next-door neighbor.
Especially when the House minority leader and her husband open up their bucolic Northern California estate and vineyard on the banks of the Napa River to the likes of Google’s Eric Schmidt, wealthy environmental activist Tom Steyer and Gov. Jerry Brown."

What raises did NannystateNancy give her employees and bonuses, or did they pocket the tax cuts ?

So stereotypically Republican. You don't have any idea what I earn, but if I remark about *my* taxes and insurance, it must be that I don't earn enough. So you put your foot in your mouth.

FWIW my job is Senior Software engineer, and on this particular team because I am, like the other team members, a "top draft pick" from the other teams. Multi-billion international, industry leader. Your snide comments are misplaced.

wphamilton said...

And if I worked sweeping the lot at a convenience store, then what of it? You think that you're set for life CH, that you'll always be in a position to look down on lower income Americans? Because you're smarter, work harder, don't make "bad decisions"? If so, you're fooling yourself.

Almost 40% of Americans between ages 25 and 60 will live at least a year under the poverty line at some time during their life. Think about that: 40%. They are no different than you CH. Sure some of them screwed up, but for many it was pure circumstance. The vast majority come out of it in a year, or in just a few years, so you have NO inherent immunity.

As far as I'm concerned, the man who has overcome hardship has a more admirable accomplishment than the millionaire who was born rich and has had nothing but success. He hasn't "earned" his tax cut CH? He should make more or just shut up?

C.H. Truth said...

Well first of all WP...

My statement (So logically... if you got scraps, it's because you earn scraps) wasn't aimed at you, specifically. I am aiming that at everyone who is suggesting that they got $5.00 or $10.00 a pay check.

The simple math of a a tax table does not know partisanship. I would offer that it's impossible that the IRS figured out a way for conservatives to benefit more from the tax cuts than liberals...

But it certainly appears to be the case so far. Every employed conservative I talk to has gotten a bump in pay (only the self employed or business owners I know are unsure). Most consider it to be a decent bump, all things considered. But it seems like there are a ton of liberals out there who claim to have been left out of the fun.

You and I (quite literally and quite ironically) have the exact same job title (Senior Software engineer). I have only a general idea what you get paid based on your experience and area of the country... but I would assume that we both got (percentage wise) the same bump in our paychecks this past paycheck.

Why is it that I see it as a good thing, but you seem to discount it as nothing?

wphamilton said...

It probably IS about the same amount, but I discount it because it IS small -
relatively speaking - and my premiums went up about 25%. Prescriptions (my wife, I have never needed any) have gone up more. I look 5 years down the road, as you have to at our age, and I don't see these tax cuts as presently structured helping my situation in the long run at all.
