Nearly Half of Iowans Say They Won’t Vote for Trump

A new Des Moines Register poll in Iowa finds that just 26% of voters say they’ll definitely vote for President Trump if he runs for re-election in 2020, while 48% say they definitely will not vote for him.

Forget About Ever Balancing the Budget

Stan Collender: “In fact, also forget about even projecting a balanced budget 10 years from now as Congress and the White House like to do. A $1 trillion deficit in a total budget of about $4.5 trillion means that spending would have to be cut by more than 22 percent to get to balance. But with interest on the debt and military spending at about $1.3 trillion and not going to be reduced, the amount available to cut drops to $3.2 trillion and the percentage reduction increases to more than 30 percent. Economic growth, which is already projected to be high, isn’t going to make up the difference.”
“A balanced budget isn’t going to be possible and any pretense that it is will be dropped.”

A Year of Permanent Scandal

First Read: “It would be one thing if the situation surrounding former White House staff secretary Rob Porter — who was alleged of abusing his ex-wives, who was defended by a White House informed of those allegations, and who was ultimately let go — was the first or second scandal rocking the Trump administration.

“But it’s not. Indeed, we can count at least 11 criminal/ethical/personnel scandals involving President Trump, the White House, the administration and Trump’s 2016 campaign since Trump took office.”

CNN asked it's couch potatoes.

What will you do with the tax cut.
Many of the more than 300 readers who responded to our query said they are only getting a couple of dollars more in their paychecks, too little to make a meaningful difference in their lives. Some said the increase would barely cover a cup of coffee or pay for an extra tank of gas a month. Others told CNNMoney they would use it to help offset increases in their health care premiums and other bills. A few said that they'd donate it to the Democratic Party."

Well the tax cuts are the equivalent to about a 3% wage increase.

So if someone only saw enough to pay for a cup of coffee each paycheck, well then, they probably work part time at McDonalds.

If it's a cup of coffee a day ($5.00) - then that is a net of about $150 a month, and probably better than most raises they got over the past 10 years or so.

Meanwhile, Nunes says he'll soon be releasing a second memo -- this one about the State Department's complicity in these abuses.

Nunes's next memo, meanwhile, will focus on alleged abuses at the Department of State and a second Trump-Russia dossier compiled by Cody Shearer, a controversial political activist with close ties to the Clinton family, according to a Republican familiar with the details.

http://www.businessinsider.com/second-nunes-memo-shearer-dossier-steele-2018-2

Why would Shearer try to foist this fiction on the State Department instead of sending it straight to the FBI?

Indeed, why didn't Hillary Clinton just pass it to the FBI herself? After all, she paid for it.

All of this walking in circles and crabwise movement indicates deception -- if you have nothing to hide, you just do things in the most direct and simple way possible.

Here everyone is attempting to feed these documents to flunkies in the State Department to get passed to the FBI.

It's almost as if Hillary Clinton, and Shearer, and Blumenthal, and Steele, and Fusion, are all trying to hide their hands from the FBI here.

the disclosure of the warrant placed a cloud of suspicion over a U.S. citizen without due process. The standard for obtaining a FISA surveillance warrant is much lower than, for instance, charging an American citizen as a foreign agent. There is good reason for this. Counter-intelligence investigations are usually aimed at secretly monitoring the activities of foreign spies, not building public cases against U.S. citizens. When the details of such probes are selectively disclosed, the reputational damage is immense. Unlike someone facing charges, the subject can't even really mount a defense.

Trump, angry at Chief of Staff Kelly, muses about possible replacements
BY HALLIE JACKSON, KRISTEN WELKER, KELLY O'DONNELL AND ALI VITALI

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump, frustrated by his staff's handling of the abuse allegations against Rob Porter, is increasingly venting about Chief of Staff John Kelly and speculating about potential replacements, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

One senior administration official and three other people briefed on those conversations told NBC News Trump is angry at Kelly's initial statement of effusive support about Porter's character — and then the quick walk back the next day.

After Porter's two ex-wives made allegations of physical and verbal abuse in The Daily Mail, Kelly said in a statement on Tuesday: "Rob Porter is a man of true integrity and honor and I can't say enough good things about him."

On Wednesday, Kelly issued a statement saying that "there is no place for domestic violence in our society," but that he stood by his original comments. Porter, who has denied the abuse allegations, left his job as White House staff secretary on Thursday.

Bloomberg

The Clinton campaign was within its rights to share its opposition research with reporters. It happens all the time. As the Washington Post reported this week, when its reporters were briefed in the fall of 2016 on Steele's research, they could not confirm it. Steele's allegations became a media feeding frenzy only after reporters learned that the U.S. intelligence community itself had taken an interest in the dossier.

None of this discredits the investigation of the special counsel Robert Mueller into Russia's influence of the 2016 election. Nor does this justify the president's own attacks on the FBI. But it's a reminder that there are many guilty hands and victims in the politicization of the Trump-Russia probe. One of those victims is named Carter Page.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Kelly’s luster has slowly eroded during his roughly six months as Trump’s top staffer — and some White House aides worry it may be acutely painful, considering he takes personal pride in his honor as a lifelong public servant. . . .

The perception of Kelly as above politics has been critical to his success in the West Wing. Publicly, he has come to Trump’s aid at moments of crisis, while privately he has been used to kill damaging news stories, or put a positive spin on them.

But the irony for Kelly may be that the credibility that makes him a singular asset in this White House may have been irreparably damaged by his work in it.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/02/09/is-this-the-end-for-john-kelly/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_kelly-130p%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.eafd113e6111

I thought he was going into an impossible situation.. The "Teflon President" is not going to give his chief of staff sufficient power to bring it into line, because this President thrives in a Reality Show presidency.

EIA estimates U.S. coal production was 772 million short tons (MMst) in 2017, 44 MMst (6%) higher than in 2016. Forecast coal production declines by 2% to 760 MMst in 2018 and then increases slightly to 762 MMst in 2019. Lower expected global demand for U.S. coal exports (down 16% in 2018 and another 4% in 2019) and lower forecasts of coal use in the electric power sector (1% lower in 2018 and another 2% lower in 2019) contribute to the forecast of lower coal production.

He said he shared “more than 100 of Steele’s reports with the Russia experts at the State Department” over a period of two years. These weren’t related to American politics – but he would later share information about the Trump dossier with the top levels of the Obama-era State Department."

Really cool, obama knew.

Anonymous said...

Further, Winer said he shared separate Trump-related material passed on by a Clinton contact with Steele – filling in the blanks regarding an exchange that was mentioned earlier this week in a Senate memo. And he acknowledged that material, originally from Clinton-tied activist/journalist Cody Shearer, made its way to the FBI."

Nice touch, connecting obimba-hillary-comey.

Our Administration will continue to fight for dynamic and progressive programs which, among other things, will:

Stimulate improved job safety of our workers, through assistance to the States, employees and employers;

Continue and further perfect its programs of assistance to the millions of workers with special employment problems, such as older workers, handicapped workers, members of minority groups, and migratory workers;

Strengthen and improve the Federal-State Employment Service and improve the effectiveness of the unemployment insurance system;

Protect by law, the assets of employee welfare and benefit plans so that workers who are the beneficiaries can be assured of their rightful benefits;

Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of Sex;

Clarify and strengthen the eight-hour laws for the benefit of workers who are subject to federal wage standards on Federal and Federally-assisted construction, and maintain and continue the vigorous administration of the Federal prevailing minimum wage law for public supply contracts;

Extend the protection of the Federal minimum wage laws to as many more workers as is possible and practicable;

Continue to fight for the elimination of discrimination in employment because of race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry or sex;

Provide assistance to improve the economic conditions of areas faced with persistent and substantial unemployment;

Revise and improve the Taft-Hartley Act so as to protect more effectively the rights of labor unions, management, the individual worker, and the public. The protection of the right of workers to organize into unions and to bargain collectively is the firm and permanent policy of the Eisenhower Administration. In 1954, 1955 and again in 1956, President Eisenhower recommended constructive amendments to this Act. The Democrats in Congress have consistently blocked these needed changes by parliamentary maneuvers. The Republican Party pledges itself to overhaul and improve the Taft-Hartley Act along the lines of these recommendations.
