Here is the simple fact

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/02/15/most-immigrants-arrested-by-ice-have-prior-criminal-convictions-a-big-change-from-2009

In 2017 immigrants with criminal convictions accounted for 74% of all arrests made by ICE, according to government data used by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center in a study published earlier this year. Sixteen percent of those arrested by ICE had pending criminal charges and only 11 % had no known criminal convictions or charges, the Pew analysis found.
Let me repeat that... only 11% of people arrested by ICE had no known criminal convictions or charges.  That means that pretty much nine out of every ten people arrested and detained by ICE had previous criminal charges.

ICE is not harassing the immigrant community, as liberals would have you believe. They are harassing criminals, if you really want to refer to arresting those who committed crimes as "harassment".

An illegal immigrant suspected of kidnapping and raping two teenage sisters in Ohio has been captured in Texas following a nationwide manhunt, according to police.

David Ramos Contreras, 28, was arrested Thursday by deputy U.S. marshals and police officers in Lubbock, Texas, where he was found inside a home hiding under a bed.

Along with three other suspects, Contreras is accused of sexually assaulting and holding 13- and 14-year-old sisters against their will at a Days Inn in Bowling Green, Ohio, where the girls were staying with their mother. Two of the suspects, Juan Garcia Rios Adiel and Arnulfo Ramos, remain on the loose, and a fourth, Simon Juan, is in custody in Ohio.

If so you have no understanding of statistics or actuary. But that doesn’t shock me

This President obviously failed history class 101

Just about a year ago, the President and his advisors held a long meeting.

"In July, Mattis and Tillerson invited Trump and his top staff members for a meeting where they would guide him through the essentials of America’s global power, with an emphasis on the importance of allies, treaties and international order. It would take place in the Tank, the historic Pentagon boardroom where the Joint Chiefs of Staff meet, a hallowed inner sanctum that was bound to appeal to Trump’s taste for hidebound power rituals.

About 20 people attended the meeting on July 20, including five cabinet secretaries, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other top advisers, including Kushner, I was told by one person who attended. Mattis was clearly in charge, and as the meeting began, he stood in front of two huge screens that showed color representations of NATO, capital markets and various trade deals to which the United States is a signatory. “The greatest gift the greatest generation left us was the rules-based postwar international order,” Mattis said. He went on to outline the military side of our alliance structures and was followed by Tillerson; Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin; and Gary Cohn, Trump’s chief economic adviser. Trump listened in silence for a whole hour. When he finally spoke up, the attendee told me, his first words were, “This is exactly what I don’t want.”

His dispiriting comments on NATO and our allies in his speech in Montana last night. He does not understand that we have prevented another world war and he's going to ally the United Stats with Vladimir Putin instead of western Europe.

I keep hoping that one day he will have gone to bridge to far. But the President is going to dismantle NATO and join us with the Russians and North Korea in a new world order. You will get in line and watch the President lead us into chaos. The border issue is representative of the chaotic administration being led by a President who has not read the history of the last six decades.

What kind of Republican attacks Bush 41 and McCain? What kind of president attacks Canada?

What kind of president attacks European unity, divides the NATO alliance, praises the Russian dictator who attacks Western democracy, salutes North Korean generals and surrounds his presidency with the worst collection of crony capitalists and swampland profiteers ever assembled by any president?

As I recently wrote in The Hill, Ronald Reagan would strongly condemn Trump's praise of dictators and attacks against democratic leaders. If Trump dares to seek a private meeting with Vladimir Putin with no Americans present, special counsel Mueller should have a representative present at their meeting, just in case.

From now until Election Day, voters will witness Will, Scarborough, Boot, Schmidt, Wehner and a growing number of other prominent Republicans and conservatives raking Trump and his supporters over the coals.

From now until Election Day, voters will witness more Trump attacks against widely admired figures such as Bush 41 and McCain that will be followed by more condemnations from Will, Scarborough, Boot, Schmidt, Wehner and other respected figures who will soon emerge to follow in their footsteps.

From now until Election Day, voters will witness a growing number of prominent Republicans and conservatives breaking ranks as a matter of conscience - and calling on voters to elect a Democratic Congress to save their party and our nation from the post-truth president.

On Election Day voters will elect a Democratic House and possibly, even, a Democratic Senate.

Story highlights
"He's a liar," Sarkozy says of Israeli PM, a French website reports
"You're tired of him; what about me?" the site quotes Obama as responding
Neither leader's office would comment on the report
An Israeli lawmaker says the report is "unpleasant" but not news
Journalists covering last week's economic summit overheard French President Nicolas Sarkozy blasting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a "liar" during a talk with U.S. President Barack Obama, according to published reports.
The private conversation was inadvertently carried by open microphones before an Obama-Sarkozy news conference on the sidelines of the Group of 20 economic summit in the French resort of Cannes. Its contents were first reported by the French website Arret Sur Images, which said reporters heard Sarkozy's comments in French and Obama's reply through a translator.
"I can't stand him. He's a liar," Sarkozy said of Netanyahu, according to the website.
Obama replied, "You're tired of him; what about me? I have to deal with him every day," the site reported." CNN

OSU sexual abuse charge makes it clear: silence is a thing of the past
Yahoo Sports Eric Adelson,Yahoo Sports 9 hours ago

Brian Garrett says he was sexually assaulted by Richard Strauss at the university clinic in 1996. Strauss, who killed himself in 2005, joined Ohio State in 1978 and was on the faculty and medical staff. (AP)
Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan gave a spirited defense on Friday evening against accusations he didn’t do enough as an Ohio State wrestling coach to stop alleged sexual abuse from a team doctor in the ’80s and ’90s. “No one ever reported any abuse to me,” he insisted. “If they had, I would have dealt with it.”

But there was one question he couldn’t answer.

Fox host Bret Baier asked Jordan multiple times why several former athletes had come forward against him, rather than just one or two. What was the motivation for this group?

The congressmen was nonplussed, eventually pointing to the timing of the allegations.

The North Koreans are already cheating on the agreement made by the master negotiator. They are probably not going to follow the agreement.

The "failing" New York times reported

PYONGYANG, North Korea — North Korea accused the Trump administration on Saturday of pushing a “unilateral and gangster-like demand for denuclearization” and called it “deeply regrettable,” hours after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said his two days of talks in the North Korean capital were “productive.”

Despite North Korea’s criticism, its Foreign Ministry said the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, still wanted to build on the “friendly relationship and trust” forged with President Trump during their summit meeting in Singapore on June 12.

The ministry also said Mr. Kim had written a personal letter to Mr. Trump, which was handed to Mr. Pompeo to deliver.

Mr. Pompeo and his entourage offered no immediate evidence after talks ended that they had come away with anything tangible to show that the reclusive country was willing to surrender its nuclear and missile weapons programs. He did not meet with the North Korean leader but held talks with Kim Yong-chol, a senior North Korean official who has been negotiating with Americans for decades.

I hope we can get them to comply.

"Cum laude" is a Latin term that translates to “with honor” in English. "Magna cum laude" means “with great honor,” and "summa cum laude" means “with greatest honor." In U.S. academics, the terms designate graduates who have distinguished themselves with exceptional grades or performances in a particular area of concentration or field of endeavor.

Since the 2008-2009 recession, wage growth for workers has been stuck at 2.5% or lower — compared to a 3%-plus growth rate for wages before the financial crisis.

It's not surprising this should be so: The economy failed to grow by more than 3% in any year during the Obama era, despite massive stimulus of nearly a trillion dollars and record-low zero-percent interest rates engineered by a desperate Fed.

The average annualized growth of the Obama years was actually less than 2%, the worst performance since the Great Depression.

Workers looking for fatter paychecks had their best year in 2017 since before the financial crisis, according to a government report Wednesday.

The Employment Cost Index, a measure of salary and benefit costs, registered a 2.6 percent gain for the full year, tied for the best since 2007, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

President Donald Trump’s first full year in office saw gains that easily outdistanced any year for his predecessor, Barack Obama, whose best showing was the 2.2 percent increases in 2016 and 2014. Six of Obama’s eight years in office saw gains of 2 percent or less.

Trump, it turns out, has been the most consequential president in history when it comes to minority employment. In June, for instance, the unemployment rate for Hispanics and Latinos 16 years and older fell to 4.6%, its lowest level ever, from 4.9% in May. The previous all-time low was 4.8%.

ironic. we had to get rid of the first black president in order to get black people back in the labor force.

With Republicans controlling the Senate and the judicial filibuster dead, the Democrats’ odds of denying President Trump a second Supreme Court appointment are slim. Barring some unforeseen development, the president will lock in a 5-to-4 conservative majority, shifting the court solidly to the right for a generation.

This is all the more reason for Democrats and progressives to take a page from “The Godfather” and go to the mattresses on this issue.

Actually around the time Obama graduated, around 70% of the students graduated with honors, and graduating "magna cum laude" did not mean top 10 or top 15 percent as it does today. We also know that Obama did not graduate with honors from Columbia.

But really, what difference does it make? He's no longer President, and his eight years have been effectively wiped out. He's not worthy of the discussion.

That leaves Trump free to grab his phone at all hours to shove and to smear and to spew falsehoods. As Michiko Kakutani writes in her new book, “The Death of Truth”: “Trump, of course, is a troll — both by temperament and by habit. His tweets and offhand taunts are the very essence of trolling — the lies, the scorn, the invective, the trash talk, and the rabid non sequiturs of an angry, aggrieved, isolated, and deeply self-absorbed adolescent who lives in a self-constructed bubble and gets the attention he craves from bashing his enemies and trailing clouds of outrage and dismay in his path.”

Be best!

We have a president who is an addict running a country overflowing with opioid and social media addicts. (In an interview with The Times a few days ago, our tech reporter Nellie Bowles said she dealt with her smartphone addiction by graying out her screen, noting, “These phones are designed to look and work like slot machines — hit us with bright colors and little pings to activate and please,” and “we all have to figure out little hooks to pull back into the physical world.”)

Art Markman, a psychology professor at the University of Texas at Austin who has lamented the extraordinarily aggressive online comments at media outlets, hopes people will resume a sense of decorum when they realize “there’s very little long-term profit from a viral tweet.”

“We don’t have to cater to those meanspirited instincts,” he said. “We can be better than that.”

But I don’t think Trump can. He figured out how to dominate Twitter, not with the cool-kid arch style of making fun of someone, but by being school-yard-bully mean.

PHOENIX — The 1-year-old boy in a green button-up shirt drank milk from a bottle, played with a small purple ball that lit up when it hit the ground and occasionally asked for "agua."
Then it was the child's turn for his court appearance before a Phoenix immigration judge, who could hardly contain his unease with the situation during the portion of the hearing where he asks immigrant defendants whether they understand the proceedings.

"I'm embarrassed to ask it, because I don't know who you would explain it to, unless you think that a 1-year-old could learn immigration law," Judge John W. Richardson told the lawyer representing the 1-year-old boy.
The boy is one of hundreds of children who need to be reunited with their parents after being separated at the border, many of them split from mothers and fathers as a result of the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance policy." The separations have become an embarrassment to the administration as stories of crying children separated from mothers and kept apart for weeks on end dominated the news in recent weeks.
