US adds 213,000 jobs in June, better than expected

The employment part of the economy continued to power forward in June, adding another 213,000 jobs though the unemployment rate rose to 4 percent, according to a government report Friday. Economists surveyed by Reuters had expected a nonfarm payrolls gain of 195,000 and the jobless rate to hold steady at 3.8 percent, which had been tied for the lowest since 1969.
The increase in the unemployment rate came due to a rise in the labor force participation rate, which increased 0.2 percentage points to 62.9 percent as 601,000 people came off the sidelines and re-entered the labor force. A more encompassing measure of unemployment that includes discouraged workers and those at part-time jobs for economic reasons also rose two-tenths, to 7.8 percent.
"The employment report this month demonstrates yet again the robust strength of the labor market," said Steve Rick, chief economist at CUNA Mutual Group. "After a red-hot May, June kept up steady momentum in jobs and certainly hit back at any worries among economists who thought hiring was beginning to plateau after an inconsistent past few months."
The report comes amid hopes that the economy is beginning to shift into high gear. GDP rose just 2 percent in the first quarter but is widely projected to increase close to 4 percent for the second quarter. CNBC’s Rapid Update tracker of economist expectations is putting the expected gain at 3.8 percent.

And headed for a record increase with new tariffs....BTW.....Unempolyment of 4.7% when Obama left office was less than half the peak rate...I look forward to trump gets to the same 1/2 reduction.... also the 213 k increase is just slightly higher than obama's 2016 record and if you toss out the first 6 months of recession numbers, Obama's record would be as good at the number you are bragging about because of you slurping everything donnie....

came into office as the economy was plunging into a recession (a plunge that also drags down George W. Bush's number). But even if you average out Obama's 75 straight months of job growth, you get 199,000 jobs per month, still shy of Clinton's economy.

Granted Americans are prone to boneheaded mistakes but even we are not stupid enought to throw away the good times we're expericing now. (At least we've never done it in the pass).

Donald Trump Jr. is speaking first. "Big shooter, big hunter, big fisherman," he says of himself, to cheers. "That's why I also feel ridiculous in this suit." He accuses Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of being a fake hunter.

Donald Trump Jr. on Trump critics he sees on TV: "People in far-off lands who hate our guts. They hate our freedoms. They hate our religion. They hate everything about us. These people are more concerned about their feelings...than the safety and well-being of our kids."

Donald Trump Jr. warns Montana voters to be wary of Jon Tester donors' "New York money."

Trump begins, as he regularly does, by talking about the "thousands" of people he says have been stranded outside the rally. "I said to my people, why didn't you get a larger arena?"

Trump calls up Montana Republican candidate Matt Rosendale, who says, "Do we have an incredible president or what?" He says Trump is fighting for Montana's servicemembers, seniors, veterans, people in the timber industry, farmers, ranchers, miners, coal workers, and "the unborn."

Trump: "A vote for Jon Tester is a vote for Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi" (boos) "and the new leader of the Democrat party, Maxine Waters" (bigger boos).

Trump interrupts his criticism of Tester to criticize John McCain's Obamacare vote, as he has at every recent rally and several other recent events.

Trump is, as always, highly misleading about the estate tax, saying farmers can now happily leave their farms to their children. Per the Tax Policy Center, a mere 80 farms and small businesses were among the 5,460 estates likely to pay the estate tax in 2017, before Trump's law.

Trump: "We're going to protect ICE. We protect ICE. They protect us and we protect them."

Trump attacks the "clown" who climbed the Statue of Liberty to protest his family separation policy, saying he would not have sent rescuers up but would just have set up "nets" for her, presumably to jump.

Trump says Tester tried to take away the 2nd Amendment - "tried to take it away." No idea what he's talking about, and not sure if he does.

Trump's attack on Tester is similar his attack on North Dakota's Heitkamp - saying he says nice things about Trump, and professes to have Montana values, but is really a liberal Democrat.

Trump is attacking Tester for revealing alleged wrongdoing by White House doctor and VA nominee Ronny Jackson: "He actually said I was healthy. You know, he was the one."

Trump says he "sort of" feels guilty for the Ronny Jackson nomination disaster, since Jackson didn't actually want to run the VA but Trump pushed him. Trump adds: "How vicious is the world?"

Trump boasts that he won a state by 44 points "over a Democrat" -- "now it was Crooked Hillary, but still, she's a Democrat." He says she gets "special treatment under the Justice Department." There is a loud Lock Her Up chant.

Trump: "I'll see NATO and I'll tell NATO, you've gotta start paying your bills."

Trump complains that the U.S. is paying "anywhere from 70 to 90 percent to protect Europe." As of this year, U.S. defence spending represents 72% of total NATO defence spending. There's no basis for the "90 percent" estimate.

Trump says he told Angela Merkel, "I don't know how much protection we get by protecting you."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Trump on NATO: "The Secretary General, Stoltenberg, is Trump's biggest fan."

Trump on NATO: "We're the schmucks that are paying for the whole thing."

Trump says it's smart to get along with Russia, then adds without finishing his sentence: "For stupid people or for political people - because they're not stupid - all they are is good at obstruction...but every time it comes up, I will say this, I'm gonna have to ask them..."

For the eighth time, Trump falsely says that the U.S. is "now" exporting energy. The U.S. has exported energy for over a century. It is not yet a net exporter - the Trump administration projects that'll happen in 2022.

Trump, shouting in a mocking voice to do an impression of his critics, say they used to say "HE'S TOO TOUGH" on North Korea "and now they say 'HE'S TOO NICE.'"

"Obama was very close to going to war with North Korea," Trump says again, though there's no evidence for this claim.

Trump is scolding "the fake news, the fake news media," which he calls "crooked," for criticizing his North Korea efforts.

Trump claims that Obama would have loved to meet North Korea's leader but "they wouldn't see him." He says this was one of the first questions he asked (the North Koreans?) when he was "over there," and they confirmed, "they wouldn't see him."

Trump mocks his critics for saying "'President Putin is KGB' and this and that. You know what? Putin's fine."

"They make the sources up, they don't exist, in many cases." Trump is again falsely accusing newspapers of inventing sources in his administration. Of reporters, he adds: "These are really bad people."

Trump, who has sought to cut legal immigration, calls for more legal immigration: "We need people! We don't have the workers anymore!...We need people that come in under the merit system."

Trump says a vote for Democrats is a vote to "let MS-13 run wild."

Trump with another threat: "Democrats want anarchy. They really do. And they don't know who they're playing with, folks."

Trump says Maxine Waters's IQ is "in the mid-60s."

For the 10th time, Trump falsely says Hillary Clinton earned 223 electoral votes. She got 232. "306 to 223," he repeats.

Fact Check: At his Montana rally President Trump just said he was the first republican to win Wisconsin since Eisenhower.

Tweet thread follows

According to protesters, earlier in the afternoon, a man with a KKK flag and a Trump flag walked by. “He’s allowed to walk free, and we’re stuck in this fenced area next to the livestock pen?”

I’m now inside the press pen inside, where you’re not allowed to get water or go to the bathroom. Celine Dion is playing!

Brings Gianforte and Steve Daines onto the stage: Daines: “Let me tell you something, Donald Jr is a heckofa shot. Every morning I wake up and I say thanks: thank God Hillary Clinton isn’t president.”

Gianforte: “This president has given this country hope again.”

Trump Jr: “Do you want Montana to be a sanctuary state?”
Big “no” from the crowd. [Montana is not a sanctuary state and has no sanctuary cities.]

Trump Jr: “If the media was a tenth more friendly to us, think of what we could do.”

Number of Trump Jr hunting mentions: Four (bow-hunting, hunting camp with Daines, I’m a big hunter, shooting prairie dogs with Gianforte)

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Trump walks on, as usual to God Bless The USA - no sign of Rosendale yet, which makes me think he’s going to intro him during the speech to make a point re: Tester

Trump: “Steve Daines, running in 2020, we’re running together, Steve” (Calling it now: this is a line that will come back for Daines)

Trump introduced Matt Rosendale, who’s running against Tester (and ostensibly the reason Trump is here today. Rosendale was one of the early Bannon-endorsed candidates and speaks with a heavy Maryland accent that is arguably his biggest liability

Trump bringing up a real Tester liability here - that he says one thing in Montana and does another.
Oh, and Trump just declared Maxine Waters the new head of the Democratic Party, who knew

Trump now expressing confusion as to how Tester got elected, which tells you something about how well he understands Montana (even Trump supporters will tell you they understand how Tester got elected)

Trump: “I won Montana by so many points that I don’t have to come here!” [This is another statement that’ll come back in 2 years.]

Trump just mentioned that he’s meeting with Putin next week - and there was a huge cheer for Putin. “Getting along with other countries is a good thing” (Trump just wrapped up 10 minutes of talking about why NATO is unfair)

One thing Trump hasn’t mentioned, and that will have an outsize effect on the farming and ranching communities in this area: Tariffs.
Driving into town, local country station had 10 min of analysis on just how dark the effects could be & how essential it is to end the trade war

Trump just gestured at the press pen and called us the “crooked media.” Boos in our direction. “They’re the fake news.” [In case you were wondering about how the Maryland shooting has or hasn’t affected the discourse]

President Trump: 75% of those people [pointing at us in the press pen again] are dishonest. “These are really bad people.”

“They always want me to apologize for using Pocahontas.”
“Pocahontas, I apologize to you. To the fake Pocahantas, I don’t apologize.”
Montana is home to 62K Native Americans. Great Falls, home to the Little Shell tribe. Many of the people at this rally frequent Native casinos

Trump says that the Democratic party’s new platform is to abolish ICE and get rid of immigration enforcement entirely (Fact check: A handful of leaders have publicly advocated to abolish ICE and replace it with a different immigration enforcement system)

Trump mentioning how tax cuts have saved family farms (still no mention of trade war tariffs and their effects on family farmers)

What parents say

“(My son) is not the same since we were reunited. I thought that, because he is so young he would not be traumatized by this experience, but he does not separate from me. He cries when he does not see me. That behavior is not normal. In El Salvador he would stay with his dad or my sister and not cry. Now he cries for fear of being alone.”

— Olivia Caceres was separated from her 1-year-old son in November at a legal point of entry. The boy’s father, who was seeking asylum, remains detained, Caceres said. It took three months for Caceres to get her son back from government custody. According to her testimony, she said that after reuniting with her toddler, “he continued to cry when we got home and would hold on to my leg and would not let me go. When I took off his clothes he was full of dirt and lice. It seemed like they had not bathed him the 85 days he was away from us.”

“They told me to sign a consent form to take my daughter, but that it did not matter whether or not I signed, because they were going to take her either way.”

— Angelica Rebeca Gonzalez-Garcia was apprehended and separated from her 7-year-old daughter in May. She hasn’t seen her since. She said officers at the border told her she would never see her daughter again, and that she had “‘endangered’ her by bringing her here,” she wrote. “I cannot express the pain and fear I felt at that point,” she wrote. Gonzalez-Garcia said she has spoken by phone to her daughter, who is currently in a shelter and said that she had been hit by a boy, was bruised and had gotten sick there.

“…One of the officers asked me, “In Guatemala do they celebrate Mother’s Day?” When I answered yes he said, “then Happy Mother’s Day” because the next Sunday was Mother’s Day. I lowered my head so that my daughter would not see the tears forming in my eyes. That particular act of cruelty astonished me then as it does now. I could not understand why they hated me so much, or wanted to hurt me so much,” she wrote as part of her statement.

“For eight days I was held in a small room with over 60 men. We called it The Freezer because the air conditioning was so strong that we felt like ice. The men got sick inside and we had to sleep, use the toilet, and pass the time all in the same tiny room.”

— “L. Doe,” the father to a 5-year-old son and 1.5-year-old daughter, wrote that he and his family presented themselves at a port of entry to apply for asylum. They were separated immediately. He remains in detention. “My thoughts run in circles, and I feel as though I am going to lose my mind. I need to see my family and take care of them.”

“[The children] did not have shoes or blankets in the detention center, and there were people in the cells that had to sleep standing up. They did not have enough to eat either, and could not drink the water, because of the chlorine they added to it … the incarcerated children were insulted – called named such as “animals” and “donkeys.”

— Ludin Jimenez said she was separated from her children, age 9 and 17, when she crossed the border in May seeking asylum. The family was reunited June 28 in Boston. She wrote that she was kept in a cell with nearly 50 other mothers. “The officers told them that they could not eat because they were asking about their children. There was a pregnant woman who fainted from hunger.”

According to her statement, Jimenez was not allowed “to bathe or brush her teeth for the eight days that she spent in the ‘dog pound.’”

“There was an immigration officer who was a good person. He said that he understood what was going on, but could not help. He brought them cookies, since he knew they did not get enough to eat.”

Everyone who ICE detains at the border has broken the law by simply crossing the border. Three out of four of those detained have committed other crimes as well. Of course they don't know that at the time of detainment, and you cannot very well allow for law enforcement to ask politely and work on the "honor system".

With all due respect here, Rog... are you genuinely suggesting that we no longer detain anyone at the border?

There are millions of hard luck stories out there for the taking, Rog. All the American victims of crimes committed by illegals who shouldn't be here comes to mind?

Are the Americans who live here, and suffer because their child was murdered or raped by a criminal illegal, that much less important to you?

Or what is your angle here. Obviously nobody would really be dumb enough to fall for the bait you are attempting to toss. You certainly don't believe your own propaganda....

During a PBS town hall that aired Wednesday, Obama referenced Trump's promise to bring back jobs to the United States when talking about manufacturing.

"Well, how exactly are you going to do that? What exactly are you going to do? There's no answer to it," Obama said.

"He just says, 'Well, I'm going to negotiate a better deal.' Well, what, how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is, he doesn't have an answer."

Scott finds this is acceptable because Trump is his President. He's not a Republican, he's a Trumpist.

Alma Poletti, an investigator for Washington’s attorney general, interviewed eight children who were separated from their families and sent to the Seattle area for care and detention. “The place was freezing …The girls placed their mats in the floor very close to one another, since there was not enough space to fit them more comfortably. Girls as young as 3 years old were detained in this place and without their mothers,” Poletti wrote. She said one girl, 14, referred to as “G,” “felt hungry most of the time she was there because the food they provided her wasn’t good in quality or quantity.” “G” couldn’t sleep through the night, Poletti added.

“The placement of children with sponsors who have not been subject to the degree of evaluation and screening required by New Jersey law in all other circumstances substantially increases the risk that such children will be abuse or neglected.”

APPLES AND TENNIS SNEAKERS ASSHOLE!!!

It’s not that no family was ever separated at the border under the Obama administration. But former Obama administration officials specify that families were separated only in particular circumstances — for instance, if a father was carrying drugs — that went above and beyond a typical case of illegal entry.

We don’t know how often that happened, but we know it was not a widespread or standard practice.

Under the Trump administration, though, it became increasingly common. A test of “zero tolerance” along one sector of the border in summer 2017 led to an unknown number of family separations. Seven hundred families were separated between October 2017 and April 2018.

From May 7 to June 20, separating a family who had entered between ports of entry was the standard practice of the Trump administration. It was the default.

C.H. Truth said...

Sorry Denny,

But both the Obama and Trump administrations were following the same legal orders from the courts.

No kids could be detained long term in an adult detention center... by order of the court. Three times in fact, the court ordered that children could not be detained in the same detention facility as adults other than for short periods of time.

There were 7000 kids detained in 2014. Same facilities. Same ICE employees working under the same ICE protocols and procedures.

The only apples to sneaker difference is that 7000 is way more than 2300... because way more people were crossing the border in 2014 than are doing so today. I'll give you one good guess as to why?

There were over 60,000 children who came over the border in 2013 and 2014, Roger... Most from central American. Many of them were unaccompanied, and many others came in with adults and extended families.

There were over 62,000 orders for deportation of minor children in 2013 and 2014. At the peak, there were over 7000 children in detention facilities supervised by ICE officials. I couldn't tell you (nor could anyone else tell you) exactly how many of those kids were unattended or with someone when they were detained and brought into those facilities. Anyone who suggests that they knew, would be lying.

Jeh Johnson confirmed this number on several recent news programs (although he insists that they never knowingly separated families - even though the courts ordered them in 2014 to follow the previous court decisions to separate children from adults). They claim, that to their knowledge that pretty much all of those who came over as families were "released" rather than detained. I Find that hard to believe.

Lastly Roger... there are 20,000 ICE officials. The same officials that are overseeing the detention facilities today also oversaw the detention facilities in 2014.

Should I believe that all 20,000 went from wonderful human beings, to complete ass wipes, simply because Trump was elected President?

Because that appears to be your argument.

False equivalency....I posted above the differences of the administrations which you chose to ignore...I can't fixed stupid as deeply ingrained as yours CH...ICE officers are not the issue as you are trying to do;.....seperation is....and it is all base on the trump rule....PERIOD....

Denny..

Same detention facilities. Same ICE employees. Same food. Same water. Same rules and procedures. Nothing there has changed in three years.

The only thing that changed is the policy to charge everyone as the crossed the border, which would "in theory" create a situation where more people are detained. But the reality is that hasn't been the case. Less people have been detained than previously were.

______

Now if you want to argue about whether or not family separation is or isn't a Trump policy that is one thing. It's a dumb argument given that the law doesn't allow them to be detained together. But at least it's an argument. Between immediate deportation, detention, or release, about 75% of the population wants deportation or detention. You lose if you argue that they should be "released".

But if you (or Roger) are trying to argue that the detention facilities, that the ICE employees, that the food, the drink, the conditions, or anything else... has fundamentally changed because we elected a different President, then that is entirely other argument...

and quite literally has no basis in logic what-so-ever.

Lil scotty....

Same rules and procedures. Nothing there has changed in three years.

What are you trying to rationalize, CH.....Things are great? ICE is perfect? No one ever said that, only you and your argument is made of whole cloth and missing the fact that the current issue is driven by stupidity of trump.....Can't fix stupid and I will not attempt to argue with you since your mind set is set in concrete...If you want to believe Obama's tenure was horrible and the kids were separated as policy, good for you.. I'm not going to play your word games and let you regale once again in your own stupid position.....while the world burns and you toss gas on the fire....

Fake President :

President Trump
First 10 months
Jan. 21, 2017.“I wasn't a fan of Iraq. I didn't want to go into Iraq.” (He was for an invasion before he was against it.)
Jan. 21, 2017.“A reporter for Time magazine — and I have been on their cover 14 or 15 times. I think we have the all-time record in the history of Time magazine.” (Trump was on the cover 11 times and Nixon appeared 55 times.)
Jan. 23, 2017.“Between 3 million and 5 million illegal votes caused me to lose the popular vote.” (There's no evidence of illegal voting.)
Jan. 25, 2017.“Now, the audience was the biggest ever. But this crowd was massive. Look how far back it goes. This crowd was massive.” (Official aerial photos show Obama's 2009 inauguration was much more heavily attended.)
Jan. 25, 2017.“Take a look at the Pew reports (which show voter fraud.)” (The report never mentioned voter fraud.)
Jan. 25, 2017.“You had millions of people that now aren't insured anymore.” (The real number is less than 1 million, according to the Urban Institute.)
Jan. 25, 2017.“So, look, when President Obama was there two weeks ago making a speech, very nice speech. Two people were shot and killed during his speech. You can't have that.” (There were no gun homicide victims in Chicago that day.)
Jan. 26, 2017.“We've taken in tens of thousands of people. We know nothing about them. They can say they vet them. They didn't vet them. They have no papers. How can you vet somebody when you don't know anything about them and you have no papers? How do you vet them? You can't.” (Vetting lasts up to two years.)
Jan. 26, 2017.“I cut off hundreds of millions of dollars off one particular plane, hundreds of millions of dollars in a short period of time. It wasn't like I spent, like, weeks, hours, less than hours, and many, many hundreds of millions of dollars. And the plane's going to be better.” (Most of the cuts were already planned.)
Jan. 28, 2017.“The coverage about me in the @nytimes and the @washingtonpost has been so false and angry that the Times actually apologized to its dwindling subscribers and readers.” (It never apologized.)
Jan. 29, 2017.“The Cuban-Americans, I got 84 percent of that vote.” (There is no support for this.)
Jan. 30, 2017.“Only 109 people out of 325,000 were detained and held for questioning. Big problems at airports were caused by Delta computer outage.” (At least 746 people were detained and processed, and the Delta outage happened two days later.)

In one moth than Obama in eight years.
