So explain this to me like I am a six year old (again)

So someone writes an opinion article showing support for Donald Trump. This person posts it to their website on the internet, to Facebook, and post an excerpt with a link on twitter.  So now what happens is:
  • Google algorithm pushes the article to search page 221 so nobody will see it
  • Facebook declares that the post is a violation of terms and removes it
  • Twitter blocks the tweet and suspends the account pending review
This is apparently perfectly acceptable business practice according to the left. These are private corporations and they have the right to do what they want. If the Government or anyone else attempts to step up and prevent the selected censorship, then that oversight is... get this...  a breach of free speech.

Can anyone explain how liberals can live in a world where censorship is okay, but preventing censorship would be an affront to the first amendment?

Let me preface that... can anyone explain this other than citing the obvious affliction from TDS?

You call that censorship.

until these companies cross a line which they may already have crossed.

yes they're private companies, but they are also the publishers of specific platforms and content/speech. if these guys are free to stifle speech, then why is donald trump not allowed to block anyone on twitter?

this whole thing oozes hypocrisy at multiple levels.

also, liberals love the regulation of the private sector. they've never met a private company they didn't wish to regulate at some level. in fact, phony squaw warren has just introduced a bill to require a company generating over a billion $$$ in revenue secure a federal charter.

it will be fun to watch the alky copy/paste his way to tying himself in knots on this issue.

Thanks for providing me with the absolute proof that you and Scott have become hypocrites. You support the right of the bakery to decide if they want to make a cake for a gay wedding. But you think that the government has the authority to impose the websites to use algorithms that provide results in favor of the President.

I didn't like the decision by the Supreme Court because they used their religious beliefs to deny them a cake. But you are ignoring the decision by the Supreme Court could give Facebook etc. to do as they want per the freedom of speech.

heckuva job 0linsky:

The recent arrest of two Iranian agents alleged to have been running spy operations on U.S. soil is just "the tip of the iceberg" in terms of the Islamic Republic's efforts to conduct intelligence operations in America that could result in a terrorist attack, according to a leading lawmaker and U.S. officials who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon about the matter.

Following the arrest of two Iranian individuals charged with spying on Jewish and Israeli facilities in the California area, Rep. Peter Roskam (R., Ill.) told the Free Beacon it is likely Iran has stationed multiple regime-tied agents in the United States to conduct intelligence operations.

While the arrest of the two Iranians was met with shock in the press, Roskam said he was not surprised by the arrests, which have unearthed concrete evidence of the Islamic Republic's efforts to foment discord across the globe, including on American soil.

"This is the tip of the iceberg," Roskam said in an interview. "This is not a surprise and this is a result of the Iran regime getting financial support from the Obama administration in the Iran deal."

Iran has been emboldened by the lack of international repercussions on its malevolent behavior and may have increased its intelligence operations in America in the years since the landmark nuclear deal, he said.

Iran is "acting with impunity, that deal emboldened them," Roskam said. "This is an unmasking of that. Unfortunately it's all too predictable. Give a malevolent regime huge amounts of cash with no restraining influence and this is what happens."

C.H. Truth said...

So Roger

The bottom line is that you are okay with this sort of censorship, because any business owner has the right to censor or discriminate against anyone...

because it's their private god damned business!

or does that only apply to discriminating against conservatives? Is is okay if Facebook banned people because they were black, or because they were openly gay, or because they were old, or for any other reason? Or are you only okay with it... when the bigotry is something you agree with?

Here is the rub here Roger... there is no RFRA laws about politics. While the law clearly provides a religious person protection from being forced to do things against his religion. there is no such protection for a Democrat or Republican to discriminate against someone because they disagree with them politically. The practice of being a Democrat is not one of the items protected in the first amendment (like Religion is).

So when the USSC decided that it was okay for the baker to refuse to bake the case, they offered that thing called the bill of rights (First amendment and free exercise of religion).

Perhaps a social media site or a search tool can claim a similar argument argument of religious protection?

RICHMOND, VA—When Roger Amick heard President Trump’s recent assertion that Google searches are rigged, he was understandably concerned, as the man uses Google for dozens of queries each and every day.

So Amick did the only reasonable thing: he searched Google to see whether or not Google is rigged, biased, or otherwise compromised.

Thankfully, his search “Is Google rigged?” returned a handy answer straight from Google: “Definitely not rigged.” He then tried a few other searches such as “Is Google evil?”, “Is Google biased?”, and “Is Google trying to take over the world?”, to all of which Google’s search engine returned a negative response.

Satisfied with Google’s comprehensive slate of answers, Amick went back to his life, secure in the knowledge that the giant tech company would never skew its search results, either in its own favor or against its ideological foes.

The FBI on Wednesday pushed back on an unfounded claim by President Trump that Hillary Clinton’s emails were hacked by China, saying it had found no evidence that the private servers she used while secretary of state had been compromised.

Trump asserted early Wednesday, without citing evidence, that China had hacked Clinton’s emails, and he said the Justice Department and the FBI risked losing their credibility if they did not look into the matter further.

Writing on Twitter, Trump alleged that many of the emails that were purportedly hacked contained classified information and called it “a very big story.”

“Hillary Clinton’s Emails, many of which are Classified Information, got hacked by China. Next move better be by the FBI & DOJ or, after all of their other missteps . . . their credibility will be forever gone!” Trump wrote in a tweet posted shortly after midnight.

Trump provided no details about the alleged hacking, but his tweets came shortly after the online publication of a story by the Daily Caller asserting that a Chinese-owned company operating in the Washington area hacked Clinton’s private server while she was secretary of state and obtained nearly all her emails. The publication cited “two sources briefed on the matter.”

Fox News, which is frequently watched by the president, aired a segment on the report Tuesday night, with a guest calling it a bombshell if true.

Asked about the president’s assertions, the FBI provided a statement Wednesday afternoon that simply said: “The FBI has not found any evidence the servers were compromised.”

An FBI spokesman declined to comment on Trump’s call for the bureau to make a “next move.” A spokesman for the Justice Department also declined to comment.

CHT, If you want your pro-Trump blog posts to score higher in Google rank, I suggest that you improve the content so that more people will want to read it. Consistently provide value so that more sites will link to your blog. Provide rational commentary on topical events so that people quote, and link, to your incisive analysis.

Ridiculous arguments like this, defending pure speculative ignorance on Trump's part, is not the way to go about it IMHO. The problem for you is that if Trump penalizes Google's methods because they are not favorable to Trump's political agenda, it's going to be far worse when that trickles down to your level. And make no mistake, it will.

Or perhaps you are correct. Anonymous sources should NOT be trusted.

Perhaps you can shed light on this dilemma. Are anonymous sources to be trusted or not or are they only to be trusted when they say something you would like to believe, but not to be trusted if they say something you don't want to believe?

Either there really "is" media bias or the Administration has done a pretty good job at convincing people that there is bias. Because the media reputation is at all time lows, and most people are now getting their information in places other than the mainstream media.

Trump recently has consulted his personal attorneys about the likelihood of impeachment proceedings. And McGahn and other aides have invoked the prospect of impeachment to persuade the president not to take actions or behave in ways that they believe would hurt him, officials said.

Still, Trump has not directed his lawyers or his political aides to prepare an action plan, leaving allies to fret that the president does not appreciate the magnitude of what could be in store next year.

This account of the president and his team grappling with a potential crisis is based on interviews this week with 26 White House officials, presidential advisers, and lawyers and strategists close to the administration, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid.

Trump attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani said he and the president have discussed the possibility that special counsel Robert S. Mueller III will issue a damning report to Congress.

on the contrary, conservatives didn't hate it. it didn't matter to them because the media was 100% liberal at the time anyway. to a conservative it simply did not matter. outside of buckley's 'firing line' you couldn't find a conservative viewpoint outside of print media. that was accepted as a matter of course.

it was only after reagan shitcanned the doctrine that an actual playing field was established. and from that came rush limbaugh and the rise of conservative talk radio.

what's ironic is that once the media was opened up to the competition of ideas, the left couldn't compete. they relied on the protection of the fairness doctrine to peddle their nonsense. when the left had to actually compete in a marketplace of ideas, they were fucked.

speaking of which, how's air america doing these days alky?
