In preparation, Mueller's office on Friday submitted a memorandum to U.S. District Court in Washington outlining the special counsel's position on sentencing. Although Mueller is adamant that Papadopoulos serve some time in jail — the range for the offense is between zero and six months — the special counsel suggested the final sentence should be just 30 days. As justification, Mueller cited the 30-day sentence given to Alex van der Zwaan, one of the small-time figures caught up in the Trump-Russia probe.
One possible problem with Mueller's story is that even after securing Papadopoulos' cooperation, Papadopoulos didn't seem to have much new to tell the FBI. "What's notable here is that, according to the sentencing memo, even after agreeing to cooperate, Papadopoulos provided no substantial information that the FBI didn't already have," Yahoo's Michael Isikoff noted in a tweet on Saturday.So the thirty day recommendation and the subsequent admission that Papadopoulos was neither central to the investigation or someone who provided any substantial information is another hit to the credibility of the entire investigation. If Papadopoulos was bit player with no real information to provide the FBI, then it seems incredulous to suggest that he was the entire "cause" of an FBI investigation that led to three additional investigations, millions of dollars of tax payer money, and non-stop media speculation into the biggest conspiracy theory ever hatched.
That suggestion has always seemed dubious for no other reason than he was not actually interviewed until months after the investigation started. The fact that we know now that he actually knew next to nothing, and that his meeting was not important, and that he was considered little more than a "bit player", makes the suggestion he is the root cause even more absurd.
Anyone with enough sense to have passed kindergarten understands that George Papadopoulos is not the real reason the FBI decided to start an investigation into the campaign of opposition Party Presidential candidate.

More than two-thirds of Americans say they support same-sex marriage, according to a new Gallup poll published Wednesday.
With 67% of Americans expressing their approval, it marks the highest level of support that the research firm has recorded in the more than 20 years it has been querying Americans on the issue. Gallup said it has tallied 3 percentage point increases in support for each of its last three national surveys on the topic.
When Gallup first queried Americans on the issue in 1996, 27% said they supported gay marriage.
In the latest poll, 83% of respondents who identified as Democrats said they support legal recognition of same-sex marriage, while 44% of Republican respondents and 71% of independents expressed support.

On Friday, a federal court in California rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to dismiss a lawsuit claiming that this citizenship question both exceeds the lawful authority of the Department of Commerce, which oversees the Census, and violates the Constitution.
Under the Constitution, seats in the House of Representatives are “apportioned among the several states according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each state.” Thus, a non-citizen living in one of the United States counts the same as a citizen when determining how many representatives that state shall have in Congress. The Constitution also calls for an “actual Enumeration” of the people within each state.
In California v. Ross, the state of California sued, noting that it is likely to lose congressional representation if the citizenship question is included in the Census. Among other things, California points to the fact that this question did not go through the ordinary procedures the Census uses when adding a question to its form, and that the question was added over the objection of the Census Bureau’s chief scientist, who warned that “addition of a citizenship question would have a negative effect on the accuracy and quality of the 2020 Census.”
The Trump administration tried to get this suit dismissed at a fairly early stage of the litigation. On Friday, Judge Richard Seeborg, an Obama appointee, denied this motion to dismiss.
Seeborg’s opinion is not a slam dunk for either party. Though Seeborg allows all of California’s claims to move forward, he strongly implies that California is more likely to prevail on its claim that the Commerce Department exceeded its authority than on its claim that the citizenship question violates the Constitution — Seeborg says the question of whether to dismiss this constitutional argument is “close.”
