Will the press corps dare challenge the rules?

Even Fox News is very uncomfortable with the restrictions on the reports from asking follow up questions.

The President has suggested that the government should establish its own media precedent. It appears on first glance that it would resemble Pravda as the media platform for the administration. Fox News is already the defacto Pravda in the American mainstream media. But since they have been standing with CNN and discomfort with the President's desire to limit the media from pursuing clarification on the comments made by the President on Twitter and his public statements.

His admiration for Vladimir Putin is even more evident with his proposal for Pravda USA.

The President is after your heart with his comments in the rally for the racist Republican senatorial campaign in Mississippi last night.

Amid disputes with his own government over climate change and Saudi intelligence, President Trump decried what he called the "deep state" in a rally on Monday.

Without making specific reference to any one topic, Trump said he was working to rid the government of careerists who might not share his views.

"This is the greatest political movement in the history of our country. There’s nothing like this. Nothing like this has ever happened. And you still have deep state. But one by one, we’re getting them out," he said in Mississippi.
"You have deep state bad people. You have a lot of phony stuff going on," he said, without elaboration. "But you know what? One by one, we’re winning. We’re winning, winning, winning."

Another enemy of the people.

CBS’ Paula Reid challenged Trump over his discredited assertion that his administration’s policy of separating migrant children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border was the same as that conducted by former President Barack Obama.

“Obama had a separation policy. We all had the same policy,” Trump said. “You did not have it, sir. No, you didn’t,” Reid fired back.

Trump said he “tried to do it differently” and claimed “Obama had a separation policy” but “people don’t like to talk about it.” As Trump walked away, Reid said: “Sir, it was different. You decided to prosecute everyone at the border.”

The same tear-gas agent that the Trump administration is taking heat for deploying against a border mob this weekend is actually used fairly frequently — including more than once a month during the later years of President Barack Obama’s administration, according to Homeland Security data.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has used 2-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile, or CS, since 2010, and deployed it 26 times in fiscal 2012 and 27 times in 2013. The use dropped after that, but was still deployed three times in 2016, Mr. Obama’s final full year in office.

Legal expert Alan Dershowitz has predicted that the report produced by Mueller “is going to be devastating to the president.”

The retired Harvard Law professor and frequent Trump defender made this comment on ABC News’ “This Week” Sunday, adding, in part: “I know that the president’s team is already working on a response to the report. And so at some point when the report is made public…it will be made public probably with a response alongside. The president will say, ‘look, it’s political. There’s their account and there’s our account,’ and then the American public will have to judge their credibility.

“When I say devastating, I mean it’s going to paint a picture that’s going to be politically very devastating. I still don’t think it’s going to make a criminal case because collusion is not criminal,” Dershowitz later clarified.

as i suspected:

DETROIT — The UAW's retiree health care trust no longer has representation on General Motors' board of directors.

The UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust forfeited its right to designate a nominee to the GM board when it sold 40 million shares in the company in February.

To keep the seat, the trust -- GM's largest shareholder -- had to retain at least 50 percent of the shares it initially acquired as part of the automaker's emergence from bankruptcy in 2009. The deal was part of an October 2009 stockholder agreement among the UAW trust, GM and the U.S. Treasury.

General Motors Co (GM.N) said on Monday it would buy back just under half of its preferred shares held by the United Auto Workers healthcare trust for about $3.2 billion, essentially cutting company costs by financing the deal with lower-cost debt.

To finance the purchase of 120 million of the Series A preferred stock from the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust at $27 a share, GM said it would raise funds with a debt offering.

The UAW trust, which manages retiree health benefits for blue-collar auto workers, received an 8 percent premium on what it would have received at the end of next year. The deal also gives it the money now, so it can invest earlier in hopes of raising more funds to pay retiree medical care costs that are set to rise further in the future.

GM did not specify how much it would raise but said the debt would be five-, 10- and 30-year senior unsecured notes, which would be offered on or before September 30.

GM took on more debt to finance the deal, borrowing $4.5 billion at an average annual rate of close to 5%. So, now let’s do the math to expose how the motivation for the 2013 deal could not have been to save money for shareholders.

GM would have had to pay an additional 1.25 years of the 9% dividend on the 120 million / $25 face value preferred shares owned by the UAW if they had not repurchased the shares. That equals about $338 million. GM would have then had the option to redeem the shares at $25 per share after December 31st of 2014.

GM instead chose to pay $27 per share, an 8% premium to the UAW for the shares that would have matured in just over a year. That premium equals $240 million. Add the interest expense on the notes that were issued by GM to pay for the deal. About 5% on $3.2 billion for 1.25 years comes to about $200 million. Here’s the bottom line; GM paid a total of approximately $440 million between the premium paid on the purchase and the interest on new debt to save $338 million in future preferred dividends. So, they lost over $100 million on the deal.

Just think about it, why would a company pay an 8% premium and issue new debt at 5% to buy back shares that are paying 9% and mature in little over a year? The answer can be found in the above referenced quote from Reuters regarding the 2013 deal which stated, “The UAW trust, which manages retiree health benefits for blue-collar auto workers, received an 8 percent premium on what it would have received at the end of next year. The deal also gives it the money now, so it can invest earlier in hopes of raising more funds to pay retiree medical care costs that are set to rise further in the future.”

http://nlpc.org/2015/01/26/suspicious-timing-gm-preferred-stock-buybacks/

GM needs to die and the UAW needs to die.

Volt was a major game changer for GM in spite of KD the goat fuckers glee that the Obama era was dead....Wonder how much of the GM cut backs are the result of the 1.4 billion in tariffs they are experiencing....Also trumps promise of jobs for the mid west just got taken down....Hope those ohio voters are happy with donnie failed leadership.....LOL

But, Chevy (along with Nissan) got to be one of the first to offer a plug-in to the masses. As such, the Volt was a game-changer, and GM can always say that it was a pioneer of the industry. Plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles continue to plow ahead, becoming more affordable and more usable.

Plus, the Volt was a stepping stone to the Bolt and whatever else GM wants to build with a plug. The Volt primed the pump for the future of electrification at GM. If that proves to be the extent of the vehicle's usefulness, so be it. In the long term, the investment could pay off. GM bet that building the Volt would eventually be more valuable than a wait-and-see strategy.

Of course, that has everyone asking: What comes next? GM probably isn't dumb enough to just kill off one of its only plug-in vehicles without replacing it with something. And that something has got to be some sort of crossover. After all, GM plans to launch 20 new EVs by 2023 (though many will go to China).

Think back to a year ago, when GM CEO Mary Barra gave a presentation at the Barclays Global Automotive Conference in New York, where she said, "We are committed to a future electric vehicle portfolio that will be profitable." In that presentation was a slide promising two new CUVs on built on the company's existing BEV platform (used by the Bolt). Soon after that, GM Executive Vice President of Global Product Development Mark Reuss reconfirmed two BEV crossovers within 18 months in a presentation to investors. While we don't know of plans for another PHEV from GM, the automaker has already proven that it can deliver on all-electric range, and 300-mile EVs are part of the plan.

HANCOCK PARK (CBSLA) — Some people in a Hancock Park neighborhood said a driver targeted them because they are Jewish. Now police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

The Amish suspect in the case, identified as Caleb Caleb, was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Security video from Friday night shows the driver making a hard U-turn.

CBSLA interviewed one of the victims, who says he and his friend were the target.

“We both scrambled in different directions so he slammed on his brakes and missed us thank God,” the victim, who asked to remain anonymous, said.

A second security video shows the driver reversing and trying to hit them again.

“He clearly was going at us and it was even more clear on round two,” said the victim.

It happened on La Brea in Hancock Park, on a corner with a couple synagogues and on the Sabbath where many walk around in traditional attire.

“Why he chose us? Probably because of the yarmulkes on our heads,” the victim said.

Both parties have denied the allegations in this story.

Washington (CNN) Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, secretly met several times with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, including around the time he was made a top figure in the Trump campaign, The Guardian reported Tuesday.

The Guardian, citing sources, said Manafort met with Assange in 2013, 2015 and in the spring of 2016, around the time he joined Trump's campaign.

Both WikiLeaks and Manafort feature prominently in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow. In a court filing on Monday, Mueller accused Manafort of lying to investigators after agreeing to cooperate with the special counsel's office.
