Democrats: the Party of?

When I was younger, more liberal, and more prone to vote for Democrats, the Party always was associated with the blue-collar working class voter. In my state, the Party is actually  called the DFL (Democratic Farmer Labor) Party.

These blue-collar workers were considered the backbone of America. They were good, hard working, patriotic, god loving Americans. There was a bond between these people and the Democratic Party.

Today many of these same voters are no longer voting Democrat. In fact these same working class voters are now overwhelming supporting Donald Trump. You can choose your reason for this, but there is no denying it.

What I find interesting is this. These same people who were once described in such glowing terms in the past are suddenly not seen in the same light. Today they are:

  • Uneducated
  • Low information voters
  • They cling to guns and religion
  • Bigots, racists, etc...
  • They can mostly be tossed into the basket of deplorables

Funny how these people became so horrible in the eyes of the twenty first century progressives, who now cater to BLM, Spanish speaking Hispanics, Middle Eastern refugees, environmentalists, and free speech hating mellinnials.

They're now considered white devils.

I knew the average white person would eventually get their fill of everything progressive, from the riots, to illegal immigration, to losing their jobs to cheap labor, to catching the blame for everything wrong....even though they're mostly responsible for building this great country.

They're tired and I don't blame them.

They finally have a voice in Trump.

Before it was taken over by a "clear and present danger" it was the Republican party of

College educated women
Non college educated, but highly skilled labor (Reagan Democrats)

The party that after the attempt to assassinate Ronald Reagan passed reasonable laws restricting the access of large capacity, military style weapons.

David Duke and almost every racist group in the country will vote for Donald Trump.

The Despicable Republicans who threatened violence against the owners of news papers that endorsed the Democrat in 130 years.

The Trump base that will never look objectively at their candidate, even if he's up tweeting attacks on women at 3:00 AM. You justify it because he will be available for the 3:00 phone call that he claims his opponent does not have the capacity or endurance to deal with emergency calls as President.

The Trump base that will deny that any blatant lie made by the Republican candidate, because they are afflicted with Hillary Clinton Hatred Disorder.

This is not the party of Lincoln, Reagan, either Bush President and the former governor of Florida who is a member of that family.

This is not the party of Mitt Romney.

It is the party of a "clear and present danger" he is called by almost every newspaper and hundreds of security and military professionals in the last fifty years.

And a Minnesota "fiscal conservative and social moderate" who will vote for a man who does not represent fiscal conservative policies or social moderate, who finds a way to excuse the racist, anti every Muslim, and any Democrat has to be afflicted with a delusional disorder if he or she opposes Donald J. Trump for President of the United State.

Huffington Post

In the summer of 1990, at the height of his bitter divorce from his first wife, Donald Trump was carrying on a very public extramarital affair with a former beauty queen, Marla Maples.

As part of the couple’s divorce proceedings, Ivana Trump’s lawyers asked him under oath about his dealings with other women and whether he had been faithful to his wife.

Instead of answering, Donald Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. Over the course of five depositions that summer, he was asked approximately 100 questions related to marital infidelity. He pleaded the Fifth on 97 of them.

“Donald preaches about his devotion to the Second Amendment, but it was the Fifth Amendment that was his favorite when he was deposed in the divorce with Ivana,” wrote biographer Wayne Barrett in his 1992 book, Trump: The Greatest Show on Earth. A New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement report later verified Barrett’s reporting on those depositions, which are still sealed.

For Trump, taking the Fifth seemed to work out well. He later bragged that he managed to settle the divorce without giving his first wife a penny more than required by the prenuptial agreement.

Now, with less than six weeks to go until Election Day, Trump is again focused on questions of marital infidelity and invoking Fifth Amendment rights. Only this time, the GOP presidential nominee has cast himself as the judge.

And everything looks different. Inside the moral and ethical bubble that Trump has created for himself, taking the Fifth 97 times is a savvy move, and powerful men aren’t constrained by marital vows. Outside that bubble, the Fifth Amendment is apparently used only by criminals, and adultery is a sin to be blamed on both spouses.

PRINCETON, N.J. -- By 61% to 27%, Americans who tuned in to Monday night's presidential debate believe Hillary Clinton, rather than Donald Trump, did the better job. Her 34-percentage-point lead is among the more robust victories presidential candidates have earned in Gallup's post-debate polls stretching back to 1960, on par with Bill Clinton's debate wins over Bob Dole in 1996. However, as the record shows, the winner of the first debate does not necessarily win the next debate, or the election.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

A 4- to 8-point lead in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Colorado, Virginia, Wisconsin and Michigan, which have been slightly bluer than the national average this cycle.
Somewhere between a tie and a 4-point Clinton lead in Florida and North Carolina, which have been slightly redder than the national average.
A roughly tied race in Ohio and Iowa, which have been significantly redder than the national average.

So, what data have we gotten since then?

In New Hampshire, a MassINC Polling Group poll (live caller) had Clinton up by 7 points.
In Michigan, a Glengariff Group poll (live caller) had Clinton up by 7 points.
In Florida, a Mason-Dixon poll (live caller) had Clinton up by 4 points.
Also in Florida, an Opinion Savvy poll (conducted by automated telephone and online) had the race essentially tied (Clinton up by 0.3 points).
And finally, in Nevada, a Suffolk University poll (live caller) had Clinton ahead by 6 points.

This is so important it should be printed here in full:

NYT Bombshell: Trump May Not Have Paid Taxes for Decades

Donald Trump was already having a very bad week this week. There was the debate, and Machadogate (accompanied by the 3:00 a.m. Twitter storm), and revelations that his company violated the United States' embargo with Cuba, and a host of other lesser embarrassments.

And then, on Saturday evening, it turned from a very bad week into what some are calling "the worst week in presidential campaign history." The New York Times published key details from his 1995 tax return, most notably that Trump took a $916 million loss that year. Experts who examined the return said that Trump may very well have been able to manage the loss in such a way as to avoid paying any taxes for the next 18 or 19 years (i.e., until 2013 or 2014).

It was entirely foreseeable that somehow, some way, this was going to happen. Hackers? An enterprising reporter who managed to look in the right place? A careless accounting firm that didn't keep its files secure? The possibilities were numerous.

As it turns out, the Times received the documents anonymously, in an envelope mailed from—wait for it—Trump Tower in New York City. So, it could be a disgruntled employee or it could be an outsider who just wanted to create additional intrigue. Or, if we recall the conspiracy theories suggesting that Trump is really just running to throw the election to Hillary Clinton, it could even be self-sabotage. We may never know.

The envelope received by the Times contained only a few pages total, from three different returns. So, a full assessment of Trump's 1995 finances is not possible. The $916 million figure comes from the first page of the candidate's New York State return.

It is all but certain that the copies are authentic, according to Jack Mitnick, the accountant who prepared the originals. Now semi-retired, he no longer has access to the returns, but he said they certainly look correct. In particular, he noted a critical detail—the accounting software in use in 1995 could not handle nine-figure numbers, so the loss printed out as "5,729,293," with "-91" added in front of that by a manual typewriter (with a slightly different font). That is something that a forger would be very unlikely to get correct.

Accountants who were asked about the write-off said that losses can be carried backward 3 years and forward 15 years, so Trump could have legally written off about $60 million in each of the next 15 years. That could have been enough to offset all his other income, leaving him with no taxable income. The interesting question though is how he lost nearly a billion dollars in 1995. What did he do that was so disastrous financially and what does that say about his business ability? Did he make a horrendous deal in which he lost almost a billion dollars? What was it? Expect reporters to begin digging into this shortly.

Asked to respond to the revelation, the Trump campaign issued a non-committal statement:

"Mr. Trump is a highly-skilled businessman who has a fiduciary responsibility to his business, his family and his employees to pay no more tax than legally required. That being said, Mr. Trump has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in property taxes, sales and excise taxes, real estate taxes, city taxes, state taxes, employee taxes and federal taxes. Mr. Trump knows the tax code far better than anyone who has ever run for President and he is the only one that knows how to fix it."

Needless to say, a non-denial like this is effectively a confirmation.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

And just in case, the candidate himself confirmed the story in his own characteristic way: He went on the attack, as he does whenever he feels cornered. Appearing at a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump wondered whether Hillary Clinton is "crazy" and if she is "loyal" to her husband. He also mocked Clinton's stumble at the 9/11 memorial, a choice that will primarily serve to remind voters of Trump's past lampooning of disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski.

Later, The Donald returned to an old refrain, encouraging followers to monitor polls "in certain areas." This seems to suggest that he wants Democratic voters to be intimidated, and at very least, it is yet another attempt to de-legitimize a potential Clinton victory.

So, what impact will this have? Obviously, we won't know for certain for at least a week or two. However, there is no question that the revelation strikes at the heart of two big parts of Trump's case for the presidency:

(1) That he's trying to make sure the little guy gets a fair shake, instead of the Wall Street fat cats, and

(2) That he's a winner and a wildly successful businessman.
continued--
At the same time, he looks like a hypocrite, since he has often taken to Twitter to tax-shame those who did not pay their fair share.

There are also renewed suggestions that the GOP nominee may choose to skip the last two debates, since he will be unable to dodge questions about the $916 million. In any case, Trump should strongly consider spending Sunday in church, praying that nothing else bad happens this week. (This was written by Christopher Bates)

Speaking of bigots and racists, Ch, carefully consider the following.
_______________

Marginalized Haters Are Now Emerging from the Shadows

One of the things Donald TRUMP'S campaign has done is make it SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE TO BE AN OUT-AND-OUT bigot and to peddle crazy conspiracy stories in public. How else can one explain the story in the Washington Post about Melanie Austin (her real name), who lives in Pennsylvania.

She believes that President Obama is a gay Muslim,
that Michelle Obama could be a man,
and the Obama children might have been kidnapped from a family now searching for them.

She drew the attention of the authorities in February when she made an online posting saying that
Obama should be hanged and
the White House fumigated and burned to the ground.

Before long, she was meeting more and more people online with similar ideas.

Then, in June, TRUMP WAS HOLDING A RALLY near her,
so she went and met more LIKE-MINDED people.
She became a Trump activist.
For once, she saw how to fight back after 20 years of living in a decaying town that none of the politicians seemed to care about.

The Post reporter asked her about her past and how she got to where she was now. She said that she was a big fan of televangelist John Hagee in the 1980s,
who said that the Antichrist would appear as a blasphemer and a homosexual.
She also noted that Jerry Falwell blamed the Sept. 11 attacks on pagans and abortionists and feminists and gays and lesbians.
She thinks that Obama wants to classify people as alphas, betas, gammas, and deltas, just like in Aldous Huxley's famous novel Brave New World.
She showed the reporter many YouTube videos calling Michelle Obama a transgender person.

It goes on and on from there.

The amazing thing about this is that people are now willing to go on the record saying this kind of stuff, using their real names and allowing photos of themselves to appear in a major national newspaper. No more hiding in the shadows. Trump has made it respectable to say in public what used to be only carefully whispered or posted to the Internet anonymously.

The article is definitely worth reading. (Tannenbaum wrote this.)

Cooper’s retrial was ordered, but the new prosecutor, Curtis Hill, offered Keith a plea deal which would give him an immediate release, rather than waiting months or years for the retrial. All Keith had to do was admit his guilt for a crime he didn’t commit. Keith’s wife and children were about to become homeless, so what else could Keith do? What would you do?

Keith has been living with the stigma and real limitations of being a convicted felon ever since.

And now, Governor Mike Pence, Trump’s Vice-Presidential running mate, refuses to provide justice to Keith Cooper, even after admitting Cooper’s innocence. In an ongoing battle to remove his felony status, Mr. Pence finally responded...by delaying a decision. His reasoning?

“Although the judicial system may not be perfect, given the extraordinary nature of Mr. Cooper’s request, we need to be certain the judicial process is complete and has been given every opportunity to address any error that may have occurred."

In other words, he basically doesn’t want to, and goes on to make the absurd argument that no governor has ever pardoned an innocent man. Yes, you read that correctly.

What you may not know is that Curtis Hill, the prosecutor who leveraged the plea agreement that Keith signed to get out of jail immediately, IS NOW RUNNING AS A REPUBLICAN FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL OF INDIANA. and an actual pardon could hurt Mr. Hill’s campaign. Of course, this has nothing to do with things, right?

KD that returns shows that her total tax was about 10 million with 10.5 million "applied from 2013 return". Which if I'm not mistaken represents payments of estimated taxes. So according to this, Clinton did pay somewhere around 35%.

“In between, the blustery Republican lashed out at a Latina beauty queen in a series of 5 a.m. tweets, faced opposition from conservative editorial boards, went after Bill Clinton’s history of infidelity while refusing to discuss his own, was found to have appeared in a Playboy soft-core porn film, mocked Hillary Clinton’s recent battle with pneumonia, and told a crowd she ‘could actually be crazy.'”

Does Trump Really Want to be President?

John Fund: “There was a time when he really cared about the art of one deal. In 1990, Trump nearly went bankrupt and was forced to ask dozens of banks to whom he owed $4 billion to change the terms on their loans and forgive some of his debts. In describing this deal, Trump has said he focused on it with more intensity and purpose than anything he’d done in his life to that point.”

“But Trump isn’t acting with that seriousness of purpose now. He blew off holding traditional practice sessions before the first debate last week — and it showed. Then he spent days counter-punching against Alicia Machado’s accusation that Trump had humiliated her 20 years ago over her weight gain shortly after she was crowned Miss Universe… Tweets about how exactly he would help average Americans or ‘make America great again’ have been scarce of late. Despite warnings that he should cool it, Trump proceeded on Friday to imitate Hillary Clinton buckling at a 9/11 memorial service last month and suggested she might not have been ‘loyal’ to her husband.”

“But this past week didn’t happen by accident, and neither did Trump’s post-convention swoon. In both cases, the Clinton campaign set a trap for Trump that he fell into. With the Khan family, as with the former Miss Universe, Trump took the bait and then tried to run away with it – without, of course, trying to hide.”

“His latest – accusing Hillary Clinton of having extramarital affairs, and mocking her by impersonating a frail elderly woman – might be better for the Clinton camp than her aides could have anticipated. They are proving the old adage that campaigns do matter.”

Former Whitewater Prosecutor Will Vote for Clinton

Bloomberg: “Twenty years ago Michael Chertoff was near the top of the Clintons’ enemy list. He was the lead Republican counsel on the Senate Whitewater Committee, one of the first of many Congressional investigations into Hillary Clinton.”

“Clinton later cast the only vote in the Senate against him when he was nominated in 2001 to head the Justice Department’s criminal division. She was also the lone no vote against Chertoff in 2003 when he was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the third circuit.”

“All of this though was before the Republican Party nominated Donald Trump as its presidential candidate. This has shaken the party of Reagan. Chertoff, a life long Republican, will now be voting for the Democrat in November.”

Extra Bonus Quote of the Day
“Can this thing just end — please?”

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

HEADLINE: Donald Trump's presidential campaign appears to be slipping into a death spiral
--and the Republican nominee is running out of chances to turn things around.

In just the last week, Trump entered into a unwinnable war of words over the weight problems of a former Miss Universe including a bizarre 3:00 a.m. Tweet storm, claimed his opponent may be cheating on her husband, blamed a bad microphone and an unfair moderator for his disastrous debate performance and saw The New York Times reveal that he took a $916 million tax loss in 1995 and may have paid no income tax for nearly two decades.

On Monday morning, The Associated Press reported on Trump's alleged sexist and boorish behavior on the set of "The Apprentice" and the Center for Public Integrity alleged that Trump's real estate business rented office space to an Iranian bank that U.S. authorities say has links to terrorism.

And Trump woke up Monday to fresh polling showing the debate tilted the race heavily back to Hillary Clinton. The latest Politico/Morning Consult poll shows the Democratic nominee surging to a 6-point lead after leading by just 1 ahead of the debate. And a new poll out of swing-state Virginia now shows Clinton up 7 in the state.

Trump is also not getting much of an assist from his top surrogates. In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani called Trump a "genius" for the giant tax loss and said the GOP nominee's wizardry would be better for the nation than "a woman." For good measure, Giuliani threw in that "everybody" engages in extramarital affairs.

Trump's only chance to win is to make the election a referendum on Clinton and the economy. But it's easy to forget these days that Clinton is even in the race and the economy is basically an afterthought. As I've pointed out repeatedly in the past, Trump's favorite subject is Trump and he will never tolerate the campaign being about anything other than Trump.

Trump Offends Veterans Again
First, it was disparaging Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for getting captured by the enemy. Then, it was attacking the Gold Star family. And now, Donald Trump has stepped in it again. Appearing at an event organized by the Retired American Warriors PAC, the candidate was asked his views on faith-based programs aimed at preventing suicides and managing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He replied:

"When you talk about the mental health problems—when people come back from war and combat, and they see things that maybe a lot of the folks in this room have seen many times over, and you're strong and you can handle it. But a lot of people can't handle it."

Presumably, Trump did not recognize what he was implying: That the veterans who suffer from PTSD or commit suicide are the weak ones. Nonetheless, veterans' advocates immediately pounced. For example, PTSD Foundation of America executive director David Maulsby said, "Our veterans who are struggling with post-traumatic stress as a result of their combat need to be encouraged to seek help, and not be told they are weak or deficient in character in any way, shape or form." In response, Trump surrogates began to circle the wagons, with Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret.) blaming the controversy on the media, and their desire "to deceive voters and veterans." The lesson of the McCain and the Khan family fiascos would seem to be "apologize, say you misspoke, and quickly move on," but apparently Trump & Co. don't see it that way. (Bates wrote this.)

That was my first reaction, how can a "business genius" lose a billion in one year? It's a natural reaction, but a dumb one if you hang on to it more than a few seconds. Billionaires can lose that in a single day, in the stock market. It's almost fictional money, at that level. I don't know what comprised Trump's losses, but I'm sure it involved a lot of arcane accounting with multiple international companies across maybe a decade of time including the future for all I know. If it WAS legal, and we have to take the IRS' word for it that it was, then it had to be a pretty imaginative move. At least, a clever one if not genius.

His handling of it politically was anything but. Was that not a perfect opportunity say that the tax system is flawed? The one that his opponent and her husband are responsible for?

How could a supposedly successful and business savy businessman lose nearly a billion dollars?

Hillary should keep asking that.

"Maybe more damaging to him, the Times report also adds new evidence that Trump is just not the successful executive he claims in his campaign. His bankruptcies were already public record. His companies are deeply in debt (more than $650 million). His alleged $10 billion net worth seems to rely on smoke and mirrors. The charitable contributions he boasts of have turned out to be exaggerated or nonexistent.

"So what’s left of Donald Trump’s claims to great wealth and talent? The only evidence that he’s a successful billionaire is that he says he is one, and also that he once played one on a TV show. But he’s going to have to release his tax returns in full if he wants anyone to believe any of that now."

I posted yesterday three Close Clinton Contributors that lost billions, just so you know it is not really that rare, what is rare are those that lost the kind of wealth and rebounded to earn it back and more.

Remember the poor pay taxes, on gas, housing, heat, food and a host of things, oh, just like Trump did.

Jane, just to pummel you a bit further in to dust, remember a guy name George Soros, he was for the Brits staying in the EU, he bought up pounds, well, he lost, Brexist WON and now he has lost over a Billion dollars, in less then a year.

It would be better IF you do as HB had learn to do, do not attempt to talk about economic/fiscal issues, you always blow away like dust.

Nope CS, just the facts. If the election were held today, instead of 35 days from now, in the Electoral College, it would not even be close. Do your own map on the available data, and show us your count. http://www.270towin.com/

But as you pointed out, the election is not held today.

And polls don't decide anything.

Now those are the facts.

339 Clinton
179 Trump

Based on the current polls.

Come on CS. Tell us what your count is.

269 to 269

And my guess is just as good as yours.

Oh and here's a hint. A little retirement community south of Ocala called the Villages will probably bring Florida home for Trump.

It's the little things about a state a poll just doesn't pick up.

"The tax system is flawed, but I've been merrily taking advantage of it for years and years and years -- something I didn't want the public to find out if I released my tax returns."

He should have said that, Wp?

Yes, except for sticking to his not releasing because of audit story, he should have said that.

You might not approve, but bear in mind that Trump isn't talking to you or people like you. He claimed that the political system is corrupt and bragged about buying politicians, and that worked for him. Why wouldn't it work with taxes? It's the same thing: the system is flawed, Trump knows that it is and can prove it because he personally has taken advantage of it. It works better than trying to hide it!
