Be careful for what you wish for. If Donald Trump was actually pressured to step aside, leaving Mike Pence as the obvious replacement... it would likely work for the GOP and against the Democrats.
A fresh face, in the wake of a very good debate performance, Governor Pence would likely be a quick favorite to beat Hillary Clinton in the general election. All of the debate preparation of Hillary Clinton would all be for naught. As would the tens of thousands of political hit ads against Donald Trump. Pence would offer a completely different opponent... and it would leave Hillary without much of her ammunition.
The worst of the "skeletons" would probably be his deference to his religious beliefs. Pence describes himself as a Christian, conservative, and Republican... in that order. So he would be hit hard with being against gay marriage, and being very pro life. But does anyone really believe that there are many same sex marriage pro-choice advocates who are in the Donald Trump camp today? Four weeks is not much time to bring a guy like Pence down... much less bring him down to the same level as Clinton and Trump.
Nope... a quiet, calm, well spoken man with a mid-western common sense approach to things would probably sit very well with a huge portion of the population.

Not so sure he'd win.
Almost certain the GOP could not pull it off even if pussygrabber drops out.
Amazing, isn't it, folks, to hear ole Ch wanting to jump the Trump ship.
I mean, he was SUCH a loyal Trump supporter for SO long.
Too late to physically remove Trump's name from the ballot pretty much everywhere. What's the GOP gonna tell voters? "A vote for Trump is a vote for the GOP!"?
Pence wouldn't go over too well with the "mad as hell" crowd.
And anyone who thinks Pence can stand up well against Hillary in a debate is probably blowing smoke.
She KNOWS the issues.
Indy - all purely hypothetical. I don't believe that Trump will step down or even that he should.
But I do recall Minnesota reprinting all of their ballots to replace Wellstone with Mondale, long after the deadline had passed. So stranger things have happened. I would guess that most states with Republican legislatures would figure it out.
Indy - if as most pundits suggest a generic Republican would beat Clinton, then certainly Mike Pence fits that bill.
Whistling past the graveyard, Ch. Tannenbaum and others know a lot more about this than you do, and make it clear how nearly impossible it would be to bring off.
But you can't answer their arguments point by point.
The "generic" party member's hypothetical support tends to drop quickly once an actual person is named.
And I wouldn't be so sure the GOP couldn't buy off pussygrabber and get him to drop out. He's the ultimate "What's in it for ME?" guy.
Any odds on whether the GOP nominee shows up at the debate tomorrow night? Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't.
Trump may be the worst GOP candidate in our lifetime... and this is a close race. The only reason. Clinton may be the worst Democratic candidate in our lifetime.
Yep, pence sure would have a better chance now. A little while ago, there was a mob scene of trump supporters outside his tower. They were rabid when the pussygrabber made and appearance. At ryans party a trump supporter was extremely vocal durning his speech. You con's like loretta are so brainwashed that the pig can do no wrong. Too bad he is losing so many demographics like educated women, blacks and now evangelicals. Kinda limits his chances. We shall see. And imagine if the 14 million who voted for trump were a little smarter than who they got conned on. Jebby would have won, but trump bullied him out of the race. CH...you and your party seem to be toast due to your zeal for the pariah trump. Way to go.
Presidential elections are different. All Trump would have to do is step down and direct the Republican electors to vote for Pence.
Doesn't really matter who's name is at the top. Pretty sure most people will know they are voting for Pence.
That being said, It doesn't look like Trump will step down.
All Trump would have to do is step down and direct the Republican electors to vote for Pence.
Not quite, menstral. Most people are stupid and all they do is vote the ticket, so in reality you are correct, most have little knowledge of who they are voting for.
Actually, Ch, Trump IS one of the worst presidential candidates om the history of the USA, as well as having some of the worst favorables ever.
Clinton simply has some of the worst favorables ever.
There is a difference, as more and more people are coming to see.

Any one notice the civility when a certain bloggers are absent?????
Sean Trends has a new article out suggesting the House may be in play now. He says it's not likely but it's now possible control could flip. I think he's premature to even speculate this right now (all the forecasts right now have 217 or more safe or likely R seats).
The interesting thing is that Republicans are panicking that this could happen if Trump pulls them too far down.
Washington Post: “Grim GOP strategists now worry that Trump could suffer a bigger loss on Nov. 8 than they previously feared, causing spillover into down-ballot races once thought secure for Republican candidates. That means their control of the Senate is in even greater jeopardy; some doomsayers have begun to speculate that even their House majority may be in danger.”
It is possible that Trump could cost the Republicans down-ballot even were Trump to win. Since it's difficult to see how President Trump could work with a Congress like that, it might be the best result from a bad situation.
Wp is still believing Trump can win.
Even the betting markets give him a 13% chance after the Trump misogyny tape release. Of course he can win.

Yes he can, James. Until a winner is declared, anything can happen
