RIP Janet Reno

Former Attorney General Janet Reno passed away at 78 years old. She was considered "controversial" because she ordered a special prosecutor to handle the Whitewater Investigation.

Imagine if our current brass had the courage to do the right thing and order a special prosecutor for the Hillary Clinton email fiasco. We wouldn't have all of this infighting between the Justice Department and the FBI. We wouldn't have had all the controversy surrounding Bill Clinton's last minute meeting with Loretta Lynch. We wouldn't be talking about James Comey one day before the election.  We may or may not have even been talking about Hillary Clinton. But at least we would have known it was done independently, free of interference and politics, and quite likely accepted by most Americans.

Blaming Comey for being in the middle of a political situation is exactly what appointing an independent prosecutor is designed to prevent.

It's a point that bears repeating.

Comey was put in a no win situation when Lynch and Obama failed to appoint a special prosecutor.

The fact that even a grand jury wasn't conviene stinks of political interference.

No one but Hillary Rodham Clinton is responsible for the behavior that brought her to the attention of the FBI.

Not Comey, and certainly not the special agents in charge of the investigations.

I confess that I was not a fan of Reno, because of Waco not the Whitewater investigation. I didn't expect to be nostalgic for her tenure, but all things considered I wish we'd have had someone like her instead of these last two.
