Trump Soars in the Polls

Poll: Trump's popularity soars after election

Forty-six percent of voters now have a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of the president-elect. Twelve percent have a somewhat unfavorable opinion and 34 percent have a very unfavorable opinion of him.

It’s a dramatic uptick since the election. Trump’s favorability has grown 9 points, 37 percent to 46 percent, compared to a Morning Consult poll right before the election -- while his unfavorability has dropped 15 points, from 61 percent to 46 percent.

Some of you will understand the relevance of this post and why I found the use of the word "soars" so amusing! Not only that, but this was the headline of a Yahoo story. I half expected to look at the comment thread and see JerryBrownDem and Timbuk3 making comments.

SOARS LIVES

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The rigged system winner, Donald Trump has announced his first appointments, and anyone who hoped that he would reach out to more mainstream voices in his party — or make a gesture to the majority of voters who didn’t support him — will be deeply disappointed. Trump campaigned on a platform of hostility toward immigrants and Muslims and portrayed his Democratic opponent as a criminal; the three appointees announced Friday share some or all of those noxious views.

Trump promised to change Washington, so it would be foolish to expect him to fill the executive branch with seasoned establishment figures. Nevertheless, he has promised to be the president for all Americans, and his appointments should reflect that.

Retired Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump’s choice as national security advisor — a post that doesn’t require Senate confirmation — has been if anything more insulting to Muslims than the president he will advise. In February, Flynn, a former defense intelligence chief in the Obama administration who shares Trump’s fondness for Twitter, tweeted a YouTube video listing bombings committed by Muslims with the title “Fear of Muslims is RATIONAL.” He has reportedly referred to the Islamic faith as “a cancer” and a political ideology.

No one expects a Trump Justice Department to have the same policy priorities as Obama's, but lax enforcement of civil rights laws isn't an option.
Flynn also has served Trump with a rabid partisanship that has bewildered his former colleagues in the military. In a speech at the Republican National Convention endorsing Trump, a manic Flynn incited delegates who were calling for Hillary Clinton’s imprisonment. "Yeah, that's right,” Flynn told them. “Lock her up."

Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Trump’s choice for attorney general, was an early supporter of Trump’s campaign and, not coincidentally, has relentlessly opposed legislation that would provide a path to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally. More problematic is that Sessions led the charge against a rational and bipartisan immigration reform bill.

The man whom President-elect Donald Trump picked as his national security adviser has said he doesn’t believe that all cultures are “morally equivalent” and once described Islam as "a cancer," comments that have many in the Muslim community worried about what his new job might mean for them.

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn served as an adviser to Trump on national security and foreign policy throughout the presidential campaign. Flynn has said he agreed with Trump's initial proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States, but told Al Jazeera earlier this year it likely "wouldn't work," and that he supports the vetting of Muslims coming from Syria and places where terrorism is a major threat.

He also accompanied Trump to his first top-secret national security briefing in August this year, and he was vetted as a potential running mate before Vice President-elect Mike Pence was eventually announced, two senior level sources with direct knowledge told ABC News earlier this year.

“I am pleased that Lieutenant General Michael Flynn will be by my side as we work to defeat radical Islamic terrorism, navigate geopolitical challenges and keep Americans safe at home and abroad,” Trump said in a statement today. “General Flynn is one of the country’s foremost experts on military and intelligence matters and he will be an invaluable asset to me and my administration.”

The position of National Security Adviser does not require U.S. Senate approval.

The better pre-Election Question for Liberals is why did Obama Fail over 8 years, the economy got worse, not better over those years, but do not take my word for it , take the word of two liberal darlings.

Megyn Kelly: On the subject of race, are we better off today that seven years ago?

Tavis Smiley: I’m not sure we are and I think ultimately the president missed a moment… On every leading economic issue, in the leading economic issues Black Americans have lost ground in every one of those leading categories. So in the last ten years it hasn’t been good for black folk. This is the president’s most loyal constituency that didn’t gain any ground in that period. "

All cultures are NOT morally equivalent. I honestly don't know why people freak out when I say this, but it always happens.

All men are not morally equivalent. All cultures represent the aggregate value systems of the men and women of which they are comprised, having evolved over time from a mutable consensus. Two sets of consensus values, based on unequal moral standards, is necessarily unequal.

Is it out of fear of offending people who trace their ancestry, generations removed, to inferior cultures?

wphamilton said...

On what basis do you make that prediction, that Trump's administration will not improve the lives of white rural voters?

Why incidentally, only "white" rural voters, is that a racist thing, are you assuming that rural interests are divided by racial lines? Why not all rural voters - you want to emphasize "white" to imply what, that minorities in rural areas won't see any help if whites do? Implying that wanting to improve their lives means only "whites", or that Trump will be only concerned with "whites" because he's "racist"? What exactly do you mean by that James?

But back to the main question, is it because Trump is a loud opinionated clown? I'd grant that, but I dispute that his being a loud opinionated clown will mean that he's unable or unwilling to help rural citizens out. I think that's probably one of the things Trump will in fact accomplish. What factual basis do you have for presuming otherwise?

wphamilton said...

Obama didn't stop the oceans from rising but only slowed them.

No, he didn't slow the oceans' rising either. Obama has helped get the framework in place for some treaties which have yet to be implemented, or have had little effect. What HAS been achieved is too little too late, and our only hope now is for some unpredicted natural process to mitigate or eliminate global warming because we're already going there. Whatever has been achieved on the climate change front, has to be deemed mostly a failure at this point.

Commonsense said...

If you do implement the agreement (Obama doesn't do treaties that have to be approved by the senate), it will have no effect on global temperatures either.

In fact you could shut down every power plant and put every car in the garage and it will make no diffrence in the global temperature one way or the other.

It is not a matter of too little too late. It's more a matter of never was and never will be.

All you have done with your tinkering is to ensure a lot more humans will starve to death and of those who remain (except the elite few) will live a miserable existence.

primarily because the most egregious polluters are not participating in any agreement. they just don't wish to place what can only be described as economic sanctions on their economies.

and i agree with CS. shut down every plant and park every fossil fuel burning vehicle - it just wouldn't matter anyway. it might make the left feel good, or help to justify those who make a living perpetuating the climate hoax, but as a practical matter it makes no difference one way of the other.

Anonymous said...

he's definitely a racist, but what he's doing on this point is to perpetuate the MSM myth that it was white rural voters who got trump elected, conveniently ignoring all the other demographic groups who voted for him.

nothing is ever obvious to a liberal, wp.

invincible ignorance is a force to be reckoned with.

The invincible ignorance fallacy[1] is a deductive fallacy of circularity where the person in question simply pig-headedly refuses to believe the argument, ignoring any evidence given. It is not so much a fallacious tactic in argument as it is a refusal to argue in the proper sense of the word, the method instead being to either make assertions with no consideration of objections or to simply dismiss objections by calling them excuses, conjecture, etc. or saying that they don't prove anything; all without actually demonstrating how the objection fit these terms (see ad lapidem fallacy).

James, there was a vote, the people of America had their say, and in this democratic process the people of America chose Trump as our new President. Like it or not, that's how our democracy works. Not just "rural whites" James, but voters of every race, ethnic group and social status. The entire country, James.
