What do I tell my children?

One of the things I have heard plenty of in the aftermath of these election results, are the complaints from the left about what Donald Trump represents and how these values differ from what someone wants to teach their kids. Van Jones asked, "what do I tell my children?" (his are early grade school aged children).

I would only ask this: What did you already tell your children?

Herein lies the problem. Young children are really incapable of understanding the business of running the Government, much less understand all the nuances that go into politics, and would no ability to possibly process all of the conflicting information regarding elections. They should be taught the basics of the election process, that we should respect the results of the democracy (as a matter of fair play) and that we should respect whoever wins the White House.

If you decided to create a boogeyman in Donald Trump, and now you have to tell your children that the boogeyman won the election; well that's on you. You cannot blame democracy, America, the voters or Donald Trump for you deciding to indoctrinate this sort of hate into your family. You have only yourself to blame for the four or eight years of hate you instilled in your kids.

On a larger scale, the all out front court press to make the general public fear and hate Donald Trump is largely responsible for the protests and rioting going on right now. The intentions (of course) was to prevent him from being elected. The results (as we now know) was to further divide an already divided country by convincing us (mostly dishonestly) that Donald Trump is the second coming of Adolf Hitler.

if you are honestly and seriously asking the question "what do i tell my children?" then you are a shitty parent.

Indeed.

What do you tell your children WHY you sat on your ass, AND did nothing, while your fellow African Americans slaughtered each other and innocent bystanders at breakneck speed.

Suddenly, though, an epiphany has begun to dawn on the media. Pens and phones are old and busted, and checks and balances are the new hotness.

They are eating their own

Donna Brazile, the interim leader of the Democratic National Committee, was giving what one attendee described as “a rip-roaring speech” to about 150 employees, about the need to have hope for wins going forward, when a staffer identified only as Zach stood up with a question.

“Why should we trust you as chair to lead us through this?” he asked, according to two people in the room. “You backed a flawed candidate, and your friend [former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz] plotted through this to support your own gain and yourself.”

Some DNC staffers started to boo and some told him to sit down. Brazile began to answer, but Zach had more to say.

“You are part of the problem,” he continued, blaming Brazile for clearing the path for Trump’s victory by siding with Clinton early on. “You and your friends will die of old age and I’m going to die from climate change. You and your friends let this happen, which is going to cut 40 years off my life expectancy.”

there's probably no clearer example of liberals failing our children than the fact that this kid actually believes this shit.

Brazile is out when the Democrats select new leaders, March I think. She was only elevated as a Clinton crony, after her boss got caught jamming up Sanders, after the primaries. Wikileaks showed us that Brazile was as bad or worse as anything Wasserman did.

There is a purge coming, but the question is will it be soon enough and broad enough to restore public confidence? Will new talent arise, or is it already too late?

C.H., I don't see that anyone created a bogeyman in Trump, since he so effectively did it himself. He called Mexicans rapists, called for a ban on immigrants who were Muslim, suggested that Megyn Kelly was menstruating and thus shouldn't be asking him tough questions, and repeatedly equated women's looks with whether they should be taken seriously. And that was just during the campaign. His "grab them by the pussy" comment came years earlier, as were the various sexual assaults (including rapes) he was accused of, but these also were highlighted during the campaign.

So, what DO you tell your children about the character of the man who was just elected president? "No, he's not a sexist pig/sexual predator."? "No, he doesn't believe the landscapers are rapists."? "He just said all that stuff just to get elected. He doesn't believe any of it."?

I think the lesson here is don't say anything outside your home that you don't want to hear on TV or see in print.

Assassination threats against Trump flood Twitter

Can't say I'm awfully surprised. Time and time again it was the leftist radicals who are prone to violence. Never the right wing.

Indy - my 19 year old and I have not discussed his vote. I told him it was up to him and that he should research the decision. I took him to vote (for the first time) and didn't ask him and he didn't ask me. His mother told me that he was going to vote for Trump, because he liked that he seemed to "say what he thought" rather than "say what people wanted to hear". He's on the autism spectrum with Asperger and has been tested with an extremely high IQ. His decision would have been completely void of emotion.

My other son is 13. In their Jr High vote (and I live in an area that's probably 60-40 GOP to Democrat) - Trump won their school election with over 400 votes to about 100 for Clinton. In his class, he said that one of his classmates got as many "write in votes" as Hillary got. He told me that he voted for Trump, but did not offer a reason. I tend to get the feeling that of the two of the, Trump just seems "cooler" to them.

As far as the other stuff.

- Trump stated that Mexicans did not send their best. An accurate statement considering how many rapes are committed by illegals and how much drugs are brought over the border and how many illegals end up in Prison. The issue here obviously isn't "the truth" but rather who you offend (go back to the reason why my 19 year old voted Trump).
- Likewise, the "extreme vetting" of Muslims may (once again) been politically incorrect - but it would make sense to someone like my son who views things through an almost "vulcan" like lack of emotion.
- As for the other things... I doubt any of that measured into either of my boy's decisions... especially measured against the other candidate who was and is apparently still under investigation by the FBI for possible criminal wrongdoing while Secretary of State.

from this morning's electoral-votel,com:

Things Are Turning Ugly

Donald Trump is not actually the president-elect yet... He is, however, the president-elect in waiting. And in the 48 hours since he assumed that status, things have not been pretty. There was always a fear that November 9, 10, etc. would bring some very bad behavior, and that has come to pass.

ANTI-TRUMP UGLINESS
To start, on the anti-Trump side, there have been massive protests across the nation.

It is the right of citizens to gather peacefully, but in many places the protests have turned to violence or destruction. Buildings owned by, or associated with, Trump have been popular targets for vandalism, as have police cars.

If history is any guide, such protests will peter out eventually, but they could easily resume on key dates in the future, like Inauguration Day.

PRO-TRUMP UGLINESS
Meanwhile, despite Trump's victory speech—in which he called for unity—many of the pro-Trump folks have, not unexpectedly, taken his success as license to act on their baser instincts.

There is, for example, the middle school in Michigan where white students greeted their Latino classmates on Wednesday with chants of "Build the wall!"

At another school in Pennsylvania, black students were subjected to the chant, "Cotton Picker, You're a N***er, Heil Hitler."

There have been dozens of reported incidents of racial slurs, threats of violence, acts of sexual assault, and the like.

One Muslim woman had a knife pulled on her because she was wearing a hijab, several other Muslim women have decided to discard the garments out of fear.

One Latina was approached by an older, white man and advised, "I can't wait until Trump asks us to rape your people and send you back over the biggest damn wall we're going to build. Go back to hell, wetback."

A woman in Pittsburgh was approached by three men in Pittsburgh who declared they were going to, "grab her by the p***y," and then proceeded to do so. There are many more examples at the "reported" link.

There is no question that Donald Trump has let this particular cat out of the bag by endorsing, legitimizing, and engaging in such behavior. But can he put the cat back in the bag? And will he work hard to try to do so? Those are questions we cannot answer right now. We can only hope that we get an affirmative answer in both cases, and sooner rather than later. (Andrew S. Tannenbaum)

...voters making less than $50,000 per year strongly went for Clinton.
Those voters making less than $30,000 per year went for Clinton by 12 points and those making $30,000 to $50,000 went for her by 9 points.

Voters making more than $50,000 went for Trump.

If Trump's base was primarily voters who are hurting economically (making less than $50K), we would have expected the poorer voters to support Trump.

In fact, the reverse is true.

THIS SUGGESTS THAT HIS ATTACKS ON MINORITIES played a bigger role in rounding up voters than economic hardship. (Tannenbaum)

Trump Open to Keeping Parts of Obamacare

President-elect Donald Trump told the Wall Street Journal “that, after conferring with President Barack Obama, he would consider leaving in place certain parts of the Affordable Care Act, an indication of possible compromise after a campaign in which he pledged repeatedly to repeal the 2010 health law.”

Ryan Will Push Medicare Privatization

Speaker Paul Ryan told Fox News that “entitlement reform” was part of his plan to abolish Obamacare and that includes major changes to Medicare.

Said Ryan:
“If you’re going to repeal and replace Obamacare, you have to address those issues as well. … Medicare has got some serious issues because of Obamacare. So those things are part of our plan to replace Obamacare… Because of Obamacare, Medicare is going broke.”

Jonathan Chait:
“This is false.

In fact, it’s the complete opposite of the truth.

The Medicare trust fund has been extended 11 years as a result of the passage of Obamacare, whose cost reforms have helped bring health care inflation to historic lows. It is also untrue that repealing Obamacare requires changing traditional Medicare.

But Ryan clearly believes he needs to make this claim in order to sell his plan, or probably even to convince fellow Republicans to support it.”

Trump Could Put Climate on Course for ‘Danger Zone’

New York Times:
“Global warming may indeed be the sharpest example of how policy in Washington will change under a Trump administration. President Obama has said his efforts to establish the United States as the global leader in climate policy are his proudest legacy.

“But if Mr. Trump makes good on his campaign promises, experts in climate change policy warn, that legacy would unravel quickly. The world, then, may have no way to avoid the most devastating consequences of global warming, including rising sea levels, extreme droughts and food shortages, and more powerful floods and storms.”
