Why does the left care so much about celebrity?

A couple of the arguments I have heard recently for why Donald Trump should not be seen as a legitimate President is the fact that many of the black tie inauguration parties are not as in demand as they were eight years ago... and the fact that Trump has struggled to find top caliber musical acts to perform at the actual inauguration.

Not a "real" White House Administration
Seriously? Liberals now defer to the "celebrity" to make determinations as to which politicians we should consider "legitimate"?  Does it strike anyone else at all ironic that a group of actors who played a White House administration on television are calling the actual President-elect illegitimate? Does it strike you as somewhat alarming that anyone actually listens to this?

Sorry, not "real" superheroes
Certainly, if we are not willing to take our political cues from a group of actors who have much experience solving make believe crises in sixty minutes or less, we certainly should be taking them from actors who routinely save the world from eastern European bad guys, killer robots, and evil computer enhanced characters with the voice of James Spader? Shouldn't we be listening to actors who portrait gods, people who turn into giant green beasts, or grown men in the twenty first century who carry bows and arrows with them at all times? Makes sense to liberals.

Obviously we should all understand, that if musicians back up Hillary Clinton and refuse to perform for the Trump inauguration... that this simply must be a sign that Donald Trump really didn't get the 300 plus electoral college votes needed. I mean, how did he win America, if he didn't win the 50 cent, Snoop dog, or Lady Gaga voter?

Treasury Pick Didn’t Disclose $100 Million in Assets to Senate
By ALAN RAPPEPORT 11:11 AM ET

Steven Mnuchin on Thursday told the Senate Finance Committee that revised documents he filed with the committee a day earlier showed the additional assets, and blamed the complexity of nominee paperwork for those assets missing initially.

“As you all can appreciate, filling out these government forms is quite complicated,” he said. “The paperwork … was quite a job.”

Mnuchin said the oversight occurred because he was working to get his financial disclosure and other information to lawmakers as quickly as possible, calling his original 43-page disclosure a “preliminary questionnaire.” Most of the millions in assets Mnuchin added later on were various homes the hedge fund manager owned.
“Any oversight was unintentional,” he added.

As usual recently, the opposite is true. The Child President Donald Tweet Trump, goes off like a child, every time a celebrity dares to say something negative about the Tweet Elect. He gets on Twitter every day to attack a media person, celebrity or what ever, who dares call him out.

Rob McLaran: Billionaire

Here’s what I say to you: You’re living in a dream world. What everyone wants to believe is that when things reach a tipping point and go from being merely crappy for the masses to dangerous and socially destabilizing, that we’re somehow going to know about that shift ahead of time. Any student of history knows that’s not the way it happens. Revolutions, like bankruptcies, come gradually, and then suddenly. One day, somebody sets himself on fire, then thousands of people are in the streets, and before you know it, the country is burning. And then there’s no time for us to get to the airport and jump on our Gulfstream Vs and fly to New Zealand. That’s the way it always happens. If inequality keeps rising as it has been, eventually it will happen. We will not be able to predict when, and it will be terrible—for everybody. But especially for us.
***

The most ironic thing about rising inequality is how completely unnecessary and self-defeating it is. If we do something about it, if we adjust our policies in the way that, say, Franklin D. Roosevelt did during the Great Depression—so that we help the 99 percent and preempt the revolutionaries and crazies, the ones with the pitchforks—that will be the best thing possible for us rich folks, too. It’s not just that we’ll escape with our lives; it’s that we’ll most certainly get even richer.

alright chief, here's 8 guys worth more than half the planet. 6 are americans and LIBERALS.

tell THEM to start writing checks out of their own accounts and leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

LONDON — The eight individuals who own as much as half of the rest of the planet are all men, and have largely made their fortunes in technology. Most are American, with one European and one Mexican in the mix. Several have pledged to give it all to charity.

The eight tycoons’ net worth, as calculated by Forbes magazine, was cited Monday by anti-poverty activists Oxfam in a report highlighting income inequality. Although most of them will not be joining the annual meeting of business and political elites in the Swiss town of Davos this week, the extraordinary individual wealth they typify will be part of the gathering’s discussions on inequality.

Saul Alinsky Leaves the White House

When Barack Obama leaves the White House tomorrow, he leaves with his worst dreams unrealized. Still, what he leaves behind is awful. Thank goodness he’ll be gone.

The very day after Obama was elected in 2008, I predicted in this space that his team would steal the Senate by hook and crook (see: Al Franken); nuke the filibuster at least for judicial nominees; liberalize voting laws (or enforcement thereof) to make fraud easier while charging opponents with “vote suppression”; drum up spurious allegations of civil rights violations; punish anti-abortion protesters; enact “copious new regulations, especially environmental, to be used selectively to ensnare other conservative malcontents”; invasively use the IRS to harass conservative organizations; and tacitly encourage civil unrest in furtherance of Obamite goals.

All those predictions of course came true.

Obama and company also waged bureaucratic war against independent inspectors general; tried their hardest (even illegally) to hobble fossil fuels industries; evaded Congress’s intent by sending cash and uranium to a near-nuclear-ready Iran; fumbled and stumbled while veterans suffered virtually criminal neglect; wasted hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars on projects that were not “shovel-ready” and did not create many jobs; oversaw an economy in which the workforce participation rate dropped to historically low levels while real median household income also fell and personal debt rose, and in which food stamp rolls grew to a number larger than the population of Spain; horrendously politicized the Justice Department; and saw race relations worsen for the first time in decades.

In what should have been treated by the media as major scandals (or more major than the media represented them), the Obama administration encouraged illegal gun-running to Mexican cartels, with untold numbers of resultant deaths; failed to provide adequate security before or rescue during the Benghazi tragedy; provided tax subsidies in return for campaign cash from useless “green energy” companies; spied on journalists; freed five killers in return for a deserter; failed to police or protect email use at the State Department; polluted a river through the ineptitude of the Gold King Mine Disaster; illegally (arguably) granted, to political allies only, numerous “waivers” from Obamacare; and of course committed the actions I related in the first paragraph of this piece, including the dismissal of the New Black Panther case and the IRS targeting of conservative groups.

And in almost every case, they covered up and/or lied about these actions, often egregiously and sometimes, quite arguably, criminally.

And those are only the major scandals and embarrassments: The total list of bad faith, bad (lack of) integrity, bad policies, bad law, and bad results is almost too long to compile. (Its legal arguments were so laughable that it lost far more cases before a unanimous Supreme Court, including its own appointees, than any other president.)

Compulsory unionism, enshrined in the Wagner Act of 1935, and pro-union wage fixing, enshrined in the 1931 Davis-Bacon Act, are special-interest provisions that we should get rid of. The sooner the better.

The Heritage Foundation is going to determine policy under President Donald Tweeter Trump.

The changes they propose are dramatic.

The departments of Commerce and Energy would see major reductions in funding, with programs under their jurisdiction either being eliminated or transferred to other agencies. The departments of Transportation, Justice and State would see significant cuts and program eliminations.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting would be privatized, while the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities would be eliminated entirely.

Overall, the blueprint being used by Trump’s team would reduce federal spending by $10.5 trillion over 10 years.

The proposed cuts hew closely to a blueprint published last year by the conservative Heritage Foundation, a think tank that has helped staff the Trump transition.

Similar proposals have in the past won support from Republicans in the House and Senate, who believe they have an opportunity to truly tackle spending after years of warnings about the rising debt.

Many of the specific cuts were included in the 2017 budget adopted by the conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC), a caucus that represents a majority of House Republicans. The RSC budget plan would reduce federal spending by $8.6 trillion over the next decade.

Two members of Trump’s transition team are discussing the cuts at the White House budget office: Russ Vought, a former aide to Vice President-elect Mike Pence and the former executive director of the RSC, and John Gray, who previously worked for Pence, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) when Ryan headed the House Budget Committee.

Vought and Gray, who both worked for the Heritage Foundation, are laying the groundwork for the so-called skinny budget — a 175- to 200-page document that will spell out the main priorities of the incoming Trump administration, along with summary tables. That document is expected to come out within 45 days of Trump taking office.

The administration’s full budget, including appropriations language, supplementary materials and long-term analysis, is expected to be released toward the end of Trump’s first 100 days in office, or by mid- to late April.

Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), Trump’s choice to head the Office of Management and Budget, has not yet weighed in on the proposed spending reforms because he is still awaiting confirmation by the Senate.

Mulvaney voted for the RSC budget offered as a more conservative alternative to the main House Republican budget in 2015. The House did not vote on the RSC budget for fiscal year 2017.

The preliminary proposals from the White House budget office will be shared with federal departments and agencies soon after Trump takes the oath of office Friday, and could provoke an angry backlash.

A gentleman named Bill Howell eloquently wrote the below.

Dear Mr. Trump,

It’s taken me a while to realize this and to admit it, but I’m grateful to you. For the past few months I’ve spent a good deal of time lamenting your campaign and the poison it has so effortlessly generated. I’ve watched our country imploding, our public discourse become polluted, our political climate grows ever more corrosive, and wrongly assumed you were to blame.

It’s only lately I’ve come to understand that you haven’t manufactured our current national ugliness—you’ve simply revealed it. By saying the irresponsible, mean-spirited, ignorant things you say so freely and so frequently, you’ve given other like-minded people license to do the same. You’ve opened up the floodgates for our corporate sewage to flow fully. People no longer conceal their vile mess, they now revel in it, they broadcast it and retweet it.

You’ve made bigotry and racism socially acceptable again and that has been a kind of twisted gift because it’s allowed me to really see people; not as they pretend to be on the surface—but in the very depths of their wounded, weaponized hearts.

Over and over as your campaign has persisted, your supporters would tell me that they like you because you “speak your mind”. It wasn’t until recently that I’ve realized that you speak their minds. You’ve given credence to their prejudices and made those prejudices go mainstream.

Thanks to the terrible ground you’ve broken, politicians, pastors, friends, and strangers, both in person and on social media now regularly out themselves as hateful, intolerant, and malicious—and they remind me just how close they are to me, just how deep the sickness in us runs, and just how far we have to go together.

You’ve emboldened people to be open about things they used to conceal for the sake of decorum, and though it turns my stomach, I know that this is the only way we can move forward; to have that cancerous stuff exposed fully so that it can be dealt with. Our progress as a nation is predicated on authentic dialogue, no matter how brutal and disheartening that dialogue is.

In other words, you’ve let us know what we’re really dealing with here and while it’s been rightly disturbing, it’s also been revelatory. That’s the thing about that kind of harsh light: you’re forced to see everything. Beauty and monstrosity equally illuminated.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think you’re the least qualified, least knowledgeable Presidential candidate we may ever have had participate this far into the process, and if you somehow were elected I’d fear gravely for the world my children would inherit—should it survive your Presidency at all. I believe you’re reckless, bitter, and completely reprehensible; the very worst kind of bully.

But whether you win or lose, you’ve already allowed me the blessing of Truth; about me, about you, about other candidates, about our nation. And in the process you’ve also shown me that I am not alone in resisting you and this ugly thing you’ve revealed about us. You’ve generated an equally loud, equally passionate response to it and this is where I find my hope these days.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I find it in those for whom equality isn’t just a cheap buzzword, it’s the most precious of hills to die on.
I find it in those people who refuse to be silent in the face of our impending shared regression.
I find it in those willing to be bolder in defending the inherent value of all people.
I find it in the growing army of those who will not tolerate hatred as a core American value.
I find it in those who reject violence as our default response to dissension.
I find it in the ever rising voice of people who will not let malice and bitterness represent them in the world.
Today I find my hope in those who, like me, will not be complicit in allowing bigotry and intolerance to become a source of national pride, because we’ve seen where that leads.

Yes, Mr Trump, you’ve unearthed our hidden sickness and you’ve allowed it to go viral. You brought every awful thing about us out into the open. I will bring out every thing you try to suppress, any right from a minority taken away, and freedoms you try to distinguish, any religeous belief you try to inject into government, any religion, or race or gender or LGBTQ you target against, we will stand against you and CALL it out!! You see Mr Trump,we are all created equal, and we will fight to uphold the Constitution for all, will you??

1. Passed Health Care Reform

After five presidents over the course of a century failed to create universal health insurance, signed the Affordable Care Act in 2010. More than twenty million Americans have gained coverage since the passage of the law, which provides subsidies for Americans to buy coverage, expands Medicaid eligibility, and prohibits insurers from denying coverage to people with preexisting conditions. The uninsured rate has dropped from 16 percent in 2010 to 9 percent in 2015. The law also mandates free preventive care, allows young people to stay on their parents’ policies up to age twenty-six, and imposes a ban on annual and lifetime caps on benefits.

2. Rescued the Economy

Signed the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to spur economic growth amid the most severe downturn since the Great Depression. As of October 2016, the economy had added 15.5 million new jobs since early 2010 and set a record with seventy-three straight months of private-sector job growth. The unemployment rate, which hit a sustained peak of about 10 percent in 2009, has dropped to 4.6 percent as of November 2016.

3. Passed Wall Street Reform

Signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in 2010 to re-regulate the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession. The law tightens capital requirements on large banks and other financial institutions, allows the government to take them into receivership if they pose a threat to the economy, and limits their ability to trade with customers’ money for their own profit. Dodd-Frank also created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to crack down on abusive lending and financial services. By the end of fiscal year 2016, the CFPB had handled nearly one million consumer complaints and taken actions that resulted in $11.7 billion in relief for more than twenty-seven million consumers.

4. Negotiated a Deal to Block A Nuclear Iran

Led six nations in reaching an agreement with Iran that requires the country to end its nuclear weapons program and submit to a rigorous International Atomic Energy Agency inspections regime in exchange for lifting global sanctions. The deal—which resulted from first toughening sanctions against Iran—also blocked Iran’s pathways to building a bomb, slowing down the development time for a weapon from three months to one year if Iran were to break its commitments.
5. Secured U.S. Commitment to a Global Agreement on Climate Change

Provided key leadership to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which produced the
2015 Paris Agreement, a commitment by 197 nations to reduce global carbon emissions and limit the global rise in temperatures to below 2 degrees Celsius.

6. Eliminated Osama bin Laden

In 2011, ordered the Special Forces raid of the secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in which the terrorist leader was killed and a trove of al-Qaeda documents was retained.

7. Ended U.S. Combat Missions in Iraq and Afghanistan

After an initial troop surge in Afghanistan, brought home 90 percent of the nearly 180,000 troops who were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan when he took office, leaving only a small contingent of forces to assist the Iraqi and Afghani militaries against insurgents and the Taliban. The withdrawal from Iraq created the vacuum that ISIS has filled. But, recently, without redeploying ground troops, the U.S. has helped the Iraqi military in reversing ISIS’s gains.

8. Turned Around the U.S. Auto Industry

In 2009, injected $62 billion (on top of the $13.4 billion in loans from the George W. Bush administration) into ailing GM and Chrysler in return for equity stakes and agreements for massive restructuring. By December 2014, the car companies had repaid $70.4 billion of the funds, and the Center for Automotive Research estimated that 2.5 million jobs were saved.

20. Improved America’s Image Abroad

With new policies, diplomacy, and rhetoric, reversed a sharp decline in world opinion toward the U.S. (and the corresponding loss of “soft power”) during the Bush years. Favorable opinion toward the United States rose during Obama’s first term in ten of fifteen countries surveyed by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, with an average increase of 26 percent, and have stayed high ever since.
21. Left His Mark on the Federal Judiciary

Appointed more than 300 judges to federal district and appeals courts, in line with other two-term presidents, tipping the balance to majority Democrat appointed. A majority of judges on nine of the thirteen appeals courts are now Democratic appointees—compared to just one when Obama took office. Appointed a record number of female (138) and minority (120) judges to the federal bench, as well as eleven openly gay or lesbian judges.

22. Diversified the Federal Bureaucracy

Appointed women and people of color to fill more than half of appointments to policy positions requiring Senate confirmation, including seventeen of thirty-one Cabinet positions.

23. Passed Fair Sentencing Act

Signed 2010 legislation that reduced the sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine possession from 100 to 1 to 18 to 1. Successfully lobbied the United States Sentencing Commission to apply those measures retroactively, which contributed to the largest decrease in the federal prison population in over thirty years.

24. Revived the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division

Through then Attorney General Eric Holder, announced a major overhaul of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division in 2009 to bring back federal civil rights enforcement, which had atrophied under President Bush. Among other priorities, the division stepped up its efforts against housing and employment discrimination, strengthened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act, and put renewed focus on cracking down on discriminatory policing practices.

25. Expanded Wilderness and Watershed Protection

Signed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009, which designates more than two million acres as wilderness, creates thousands of miles of recreational and historic trails, and protects over 1,000 miles of rivers. By designating new national monuments and other measures, permanently protects over 548 million acres, more than any other president.

26. Gave the FDA the Power to Regulate Tobacco

Signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act in 2009. Nine years in the making and long resisted by the tobacco industry, the law mandates that tobacco manufacturers disclose all ingredients, obtain FDA approval for new products, and expand the size and prominence of cigarette warning labels. It also bans the sale of “light” cigarettes and tobacco sponsorship of entertainment events.

27. Trimmed and Reoriented Missile Defense

Cut the Reagan-era “Star Wars” missile defense budget, saving $1.4 billion in 2010, and canceled plans to station antiballistic missile systems in Poland and the Czech Republic in favor of a sea-based defense plan focused on Iran and North Korea.

40. Strengthened Women’s Right to Fair Pay

Signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009, giving women who are paid less than men for the same work the right to sue their employers after they find out about the discrimination, even if it happened years ago. Through the Justice Department, reached a record $335 million settlement against Countrywide Financial Corporation and a $175 million settlement against Wells Fargo for their practices of charging higher interest and fees to African American and Latino borrowers prior to the financial crisis, in addition to numerous other suits pursued on behalf of borrowers. This may be huge. There are reports that some of Trump's staff worked with the Russian government on the election. If the President knew about it, it is impeachable.

WASHINGTON — American law enforcement and intelligence agencies are examining intercepted communications and financial transactions as part of a broad investigation into possible links between Russian officials and associates of President-elect Donald J. Trump, including his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, current and former senior American officials said.

The continuing counterintelligence investigation means that Mr. Trump will take the oath of office on Friday with his associates under investigation and after the intelligence agencies concluded that the Russian government had worked to help elect him. As president, Mr. Trump will oversee those agencies and have the authority to redirect or stop at least some of these efforts.

It is not clear whether the intercepted communications had anything to do with Mr. Trump’s campaign, or Mr. Trump himself. It is also unclear whether the inquiry has anything to do with an investigation into the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s computers and other attempts to disrupt the elections in November. The American government has concluded that the Russian government was responsible for a broad computer hacking campaign, including the operation against the D.N.C.

The counterintelligence investigation centers at least in part on the business dealings that some of the president-elect’s past and present advisers have had with Russia. Mr. Manafort has done business in Ukraine and Russia. Some of his contacts there were under surveillance by the National Security Agency for suspected links to Russia’s Federal Security Service, one of the officials said.

You are obsessed with me. LOL

FYI, my MELD score with exception points is 29.

I'm feeling pretty good most of the time. The biggest problem is that my lumbar section of my spine is out of line, and causes sciatic pain in my left leg, it hurts like hell, but I keep active, and work to keep the back in good shape.

My doctors are all happy with my sobriety, a lot of patients can't do that And that I keep active and work out. My heart, and circulation system is in excellent condition, and diet. And more.

I had two people offer to be live donors, but that's not done by UCLA. One of the offers came from a guy who used to post on Soars and here at times, going by the name of Nyuck. He's an ex Marine. The other was a woman who is working to get her PhD in religion spiritualism and is a pastor at of the Methodist church.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I never denied it. but it's a minor problem. It's not getting worse, the problem is the cysts caused by the inherited condition, PCLD, are getting bigger.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

My doctors are doing anything possible to get me the transplant. Transplants for PCLD are rate, about 100 per year, vs the several thousand transplants for a lot of live issues. But I will get it and survive it. My regular doctor stepped out of the doctor/ patient position and emotionally said that I will survive, despite the high ricks I face.

I come here to keep my mind occupied sometimes. My own problems are a pain, but such is life. But recently my wife was diagnosed with cancer in her right breast. Because Kaiser Permanente does mammograms every six months with women over 65. It was tiny and they did the surgery about six weeks ago. They got it all. The prognosis is excellent. She's going to start radiation treatments for four weeks next week.

And to add to that, my older sister broke her hip, not one of the major ones. She will recover from that. The much more troubling issue is she's got signs of dementia. Shews very uncooperative and at times confused. She's been having some memory and confusion. She was sent to a rehab site today. But it's about 200 miles from Rapid City, so the family can't always be there for her. She's ten years older than I am. born kn 1941.

She's had a tough life. But was doing ok, till this. I have shared this before, I think. She got married in 1957. She married a guy who was in the Air Force and stationed at Ellsworth in Rapid City. He was an alcoholic. But he was charming, good looking and spent a lot of times with me, he let me drive his car at 12.

In about 1995, she told me that he had been abusive from very early in the marriage. She didn't think she could get out of it. Sigh..he was a coward, any man who s abusive, was a coward. She had a couple drinks and told me what had been happening, since they got married. I was in town, I was living in Billings MT at the time. My brother Jon and I looked at each other and didn't say a word. But I invited him to come with us for a beer at a local saloon. After we had a couple drinks, and I remember this exactly. "Gordon, if you ever touch my sister again, I will kill you." We finished our beers and went back to my parent's house. They divorced sis months later and he never did tough her, although he almost did, but hem backed off. He died in prison after killing his third wife. There was no funeral. He was 5'7" . I'm 6'4" and I was a construction worker, who was always one of he strongest men on the job. I'm still stronger than most, because I work out regularly.

Now kiss my ass Loretta, you don't have the ability to disagree with a coherent comment, just insults.

The fact that the election of Donald Trump has sent a generation of Americans seeking their security blankets tells us a number of things. One, that these people are intellectually defective, but set that aside for now. It also tells us that progressives do not understand they are the Doctor Frankensteins in this monster story, demanding endless expansions of the state, pressing for the concentration of power in the executive agencies and nondemocratic institutions, and inventing new pretexts for political intrusions into private life — only to be horrified that the instrument they have created has been entrusted to the leadership of a man they despise.

If the outcome of an election sends you into a condition necessitating the use of diapers, then your government is too big and your president too powerful. It is pleasant to imagine a galaxy of little lightbulbs going off over millions of heads in Berkeley and on the Upper West Side as the basic good sense of the libertarian disposition becomes clear to progressives so expensively educated that they’ve never had to think very much about it. Congratulations, comrades! Your Koch Brothers secret-agent decoder ring is in the mail, along with your complimentary Bastiat books.

No, they aren’t for coloring in.

election of Donald Trump has sent a generation of Americans seeking their security blankets

I suddenly wonder if it's really the other way around. There is a large group of people who have been imprinted with the idea that they innately deserve respect, achievement and success regardless of their ability and efforts. I think that they projected that onto their champion, and they feel that something is wrong with their world when their champion lost.

They were already wrapped tightly in their security blankets, and they're afraid that Trump will take it away.

It's just one anecdote, but I was captive audience to a conversation of sorts on the MARTA train last night, that briefly turned political. Drunk younger white "Hillary girl" and an older black gentleman. Lest I give the wrong impression, he was a nice guy with impressive restraint and she was trying to cope with debilitating personal problems. But the political thought that I heard exemplified the most base, non-rational themes that we saw in this campaign. At the street level, that's what abides and it's the people, not the politics.
