Biggest story since Watergate

Some of what used to be known as your major news outlets are wide eyed and bushy tailed over recent leaks that reveal the fact that some of the Trump campaign staffers had been in contact with Russian officials. Sounds ominous until you consider:
  • CNN admits that they were told by officials that communication between Presidential campaigns and foreign officials is "not unusual".
  • NY Times admits that they have been told (by their sources) that there is no evidence that any of the contact between the Trump campaign and Russian officials had to do with election hacking or anything otherwise illegal.
So, if we read between the lines here, we can pretty much deduce that there was likely similar contact between the Clinton campaign and foreign officials. There was likely similar contact between the Obama campaign and foreign officials. There was likely similar contact between the Romney campaign, the McCain campaign, the Bush campaign, the Kerry campaign and foreign officials. We can also deduce that such communications (in and of itself) is neither illegal or even unethical.

But none-the-less... this is still the biggest story since Watergate. At least till next week, when something bigger and better comes along.

Our esteemed host, who has a stage four Trumpism© thinks this is no big deal. Can you just imagine, what his remarks would be, if the Barack Hussein and campaign in 2008, had been in contact with Russian intelligence agencies during the campaign versus John McCain? He would put a photograph taken of a nuclear bomb. The Russian government and the Trump campaign conspired to affect the outcome of our Presidential election. This is nothing short of treason.

The New York Times
WASHINGTON — Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time that they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.

The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.

But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin. At one point last summer, Mr. Trump said at a campaign event that he hoped Russian intelligence services had stolen Hillary Clinton’s emails and would make them public.

The officials said the intercepted communications were not limited to Trump campaign officials, and included other associates of Mr. Trump. On the Russian side, the contacts also included members of the Russian government outside of the intelligence services, the officials said. All of the current and former officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because the continuing investigation is classified.

This is just the opening proof that the Russians, with the cooperation from the Trump campaign to interfere with the election. Treason without a doubt.

Treason Against the United States.
Published: January 25, 1861

By Section 110 of Article III. of the Constitution of the United States, it is declared that:

"Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open Court. The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason."

In 1790, the Congress of the United States enacted that:

"If any person or persons, owing allegiance to the United States of America, shall levy war against them, or shall adhere to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States, or elsewhere, and shall be thereof convicted on confession in open Court, or on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act of the treason whereof he or they shall stand indicted, such person or persons shall be adjudged guilty of treason against the United States, and SHALL SUFFER DEATH; and that if any person or persons, having knowledge of the commission of any of the treasons aforesaid, shall conceal, and not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to the President of the United States, or some one of the Judges thereof, or to the President or Governor of a particular State, or some one of the Judges or Justices thereof, such person or persons, on conviction, shall be adjudged guilty of misprision of treason, and shall be imprisoned not exceeding seven years, and fined not exceeding one thousand dollars."

JAMES MADISON in the 43d number of the Federalist says:

"As treason may be committed against the United States the authority of the United States ought to be enabled to punish it: but as new tangled and artificial treasons have been the great engines by which violent factions, the natural offspring of free governments, have usually wreaked their alternate malignity on each other, the Convention has with great judgment opposed a barrier to this peculiar danger by inserting a Constitutional definition of the crime."

The Constitution confines the crime of treason to two species; First, the levying of war against the United States; and Secondly, adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. In so doing the very words of the Statute of Treason of EDWARD the THIRD were adopted; and thus the framers of the Constitution recognized the well settled interpretation of these phrases in the administration of criminal law which has prevailed for centuries in England.

Dan Rather:

Watergate is the biggest political scandal of my lifetime, until maybe now. It was the closest we came to a debilitating Constitutional crisis, until maybe now. On a 10 scale of armageddon for our form of government, I would put Watergate at a 9. This Russia scandal is currently somewhere around a 5 or 6, in my opinion, but it is cascading in intensity seemingly by the hour. And we may look back and see, in the end, that it is at least as big as Watergate. It may become the measure by which all future scandals are judged. It has all the necessary ingredients, and that is chilling.

When we look back at Watergate, we remember the end of the Nixon Presidency. It came with an avalanche, but for most of the time my fellow reporters and I were chasing down the story as it rumbled along with a low-grade intensity. We never were quite sure how much we would find out about what really happened. In the end, the truth emerged into the light, and President Nixon descended into infamy.

This Russia story started out with an avalanche and where we go from here no one really knows. Each piece of news demands new questions. We are still less than a month into the Trump Presidency, and many are asking that question made famous by Tennessee Senator Howard Baker those many years ago: "What did the President know, and when did he know it?" New reporting suggests that Mr. Trump knew for weeks. We can all remember the General Michael Flynn's speech from the Republican National Convention - "Lock her up!" in regards to Hillary Clinton. If Hillary Clinton had done one tenth of what Mr. Flynn had done, she likely would be in jail. And it isn't just Mr. Flynn, how far does this go?

The White House has no credibility on this issue. Their spigot of lies - can't we finally all agree to call them lies - long ago lost them any semblance of credibility. I would also extend that to the Republican Congress, who has excused away the Trump Administration's assertions for far too long.

We need an independent investigation. Damn the lies, full throttle forward on the truth. If a scriptwriter had approached Hollywood with what we are witnessing, he or she would probably have been told it was way too far-fetched for even a summer blockbuster. But this is not fiction. It is real and it is serious. Deadly serious. We deserve answers and those who are complicit in this scandal need to feel the full force of justice.

Dan Rather was the anchor for CBS news during the Watergate scandal. He is not alone.

There are some Republicans have called for an independent investigation. The Attorney General should call for an independent investigation into this scandal, and yes, it quite possibly be Treason, per the Constitution of of the United States Of America. Nothing else can either clear up that the President of the United States, or even lead to his imprisonment per the Constitution of the United States. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/14/politics/michael-flynn-congress-reaction-republicans-democrats/

(CNN)President Donald Trump and the chairman of House Intelligence Committee want an investigation focusing on the the leaks of surrounding the discussions between the Russian ambassador and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who resigned Monday night.

Flynn stepped down shortly after the reports emerged that he misled administration officials over whether he discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador in December.
But the focus Tuesday morning was on the news reports, not Flynn's actions
"I want to hear from the FBI as to how this got out," Rep. Devin Nunes, the California Republican who chairs the Intelligence Committee, told reporters. "We don't even know if this is true. We just know this from press reports."

But some Republicans aren't focusing just on the leaks but also want to talk to Flynn himself.

"I would think that we should talk to Gen. Flynn very soon and that should answer a lot of questions. What did he know? What did he do? And is there any reason to believe that anybody knew that and didn't take the kind of action they should have taken," asked Republican Sen. Roy Blunt, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Tuesday on KTRS radio.

"For all of us, finding out if there's a problem or not and sooner rather than later is the right thing to do," he added.

Democrats are also calling for an immediate briefing on Flynn's conversations with Russian officials about sanctions, but they are also targeting what the White House officials knew about Flynn's conversation and why if they were informed of his actions, why they didn't act until Monday.

"Yesterday before general Flynn even resigned (Missouri Sen.) Claire McCaskill, the ranking member on the Homeland Security Committee, asked for a briefing on this issue," Sen. Jon Tester, a Montana Democrat, told CNN's Chris Cuomo Tuesday on "New Day." "And I support that and I think we need to move forward through the appropriate committees to get to the truth.

Concerns were raised after Flynn claimed he did not discuss sanctions being imposed by former President Barack Obama's administration in retaliation for Russia's interference in the election with Russian officials before Flynn was in government.
Other lawmakers took the Trump administration to task for knowing about Flynn's actions weeks ago yet doing nothing.

"We were shocked and dismayed to learn this evening of reports that three weeks ago, U.S. law enforcement officials warned the White House Counsel that General Flynn had provided false information to the public about his communications with the Russian government, but that the Trump Administration apparently did nothing about it -- neither to clarify the truth to the American public or to stop General Flynn from being an ongoing national security concern,"
...

Republican Sen. John Thune said Congress is awaiting more answers about what the White House knew regarding Flynn's conversations.

"If you have a member of your team not getting the job done, or you have questions about actions that they are taking, that you would take decisive action to address that.

"Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to "leak" into the public," Trump tweeted. "One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?"
The president does have some power in punishing leakers, but it remains unclear whether Trump's tweet previews actual policy or is the president venting about negative story consuming his administration.

This is where our esteemed host gets his orders. Seig Heil Donald Trump.

More spam for loretta to suck on......LOL

To be sure, Michael Flynn’s improper contact with the Russian ambassador in December regarding sanctions, and his subsequent repeated lying about that contact, should result in his swift dismissal. But your editorial fails to make any reference to who may be the primary actor in this sordid little episode — President Trump.

Mr. Flynn was presumably not engaged in a frolic of his own. The Senate Intelligence Committee should grill Mr. Flynn on what conversations he had with Mr. Trump before placing that call to the ambassador, and what conversations ensued after the call.

Thank goodness the press is working as congress sits on their asses and would rather prosecute the leaks than those who are stepping on their cranks...

i love this idea! we should be using it to fling some beaners back where they came from:

US border patrol agents at the Douglas, Arizona, port of entry southwest of Tucson encountered one of Mexican smugglers' more low-tech methods for moving drugs over the border on Friday.

While on patrol east of the border crossing, US agents saw several people moving away from the border fence as they approached.

"When agents arrived at the fence they found a catapult system attached to the south side of the border fence," Customs and Border Protection said in a release. "They searched the area and located two bundles of marijuana."

CBP agents dismantled the catapult, which was seized by Mexican authorities.

It was used to launch at least two bundles of marijuana, weighing about 47 pounds, into the US. The drugs were seized by US authorities.

Despite their rarity in everyday life, catapults are not unheard of in the drug-smuggling world. Authorities on both sides of the border have encountered them on several occasions.

In early 2011, near Naco, which straddles the border east of Douglas, US national guardsmen detected a catapult being set up near the border fence.

Some Trump supporters hoping they don't lose Obamacare

As Republicans begin steps to repeal the Affordable Care Act, many GOP Congressional members will have to carefully weigh the fact that a great number of their constituents rely on Obamacare for health coverage.

That's particularly true in south Florida, which is home to the eight congressional districts with the highest concentrations of Obamacare enrollees, according to a report Tuesday from the Kaiser Family Foundation. Three of those districts are led by Republicans.

House Republicans also represent 12 of the top 25 districts with the highest Obamacare exchange participation nationwide. In addition to Florida, those representatives are from North Carolina, Georgia and Utah.
