Largest Victory since Reagan?

By one measure it is....

This is what sort of makes that one map we all see so damned "red".

While it's not clear that this is what Trump meant when he made the statement about the largest victory since Reagan, of if he meant (what he sort of clarified) that it was the biggest Republican electoral college victory since Reagan... what is clear is that Trump is practically immune to being embarrassed for being corrected on these sorts of facts. He sort of discounted the question as unuseful nit-picking and used the old sales technique of countering with a fairly obvious statement and then posing the ever popular "wouldn't you agree" question. Move on.

I keep going back to the statement repeated by Scott Adams when he talks about persuasion. "Facts don't matter". The more I look at politics from the standpoint of this distinct understanding, the more I am convinced he is right. Whether it was Barack Obama and his lackeys telling the country blatantly nonfactual information about his stimulus plan or the A.C.A. law; or Hillary Clinton demanding that the F.B.I. was simply providing a routine security probe; or Donald Trump suggesting that his was the largest electoral victory since Ronald Reagan won 49 states... the facts simply don't matter. The biggest difference I can tell is with Donald Trump, he never makes much attempt at pretending differently.
_______

Meanwhile Adams makes the point today that half the country saw a Press Conference where Trump was simply being vintage Donald Trump, while the other half saw Donald Trump in complete crazed out of control meltdown mode of epic proportions. The suggestion is that you could ask two people the same question, get two different answers, and put them both up against a lie detector test, and both would likely pass. Of course, all this suggests that one of the two people still has to be hallucinating as there is no real room for two realities.

Adams suggests that there are two pretty good reasons why the "meltdown" version of events is the hallucination. First, the fact is that the anti-Trump people who see a meltdown, have a "trigger" in place to cause the hallucination, while the Trump supporters do not. Simply speaking, the anti-Trump crowd never believed a Trump presidency could occur and therefor reality is clashing with their ego driven idea of what the world should be. This makes people highly likely to attempt to rewrite reality. Those who are Trump supporters have no such clash with reality. Things are just as they believe they should be. There is no reason to trigger a hallucination.

Secondly, he uses the Purple Elephant analogy. If half the people see the purple elephant in the room and the other half doesn't... it's pretty much a sure bet that those who see it are the one hallucinating. In this case, if half the people saw some wild crazed meltdown of epic proportions, and the other half saw a typical day at the podium for Donald Trump, it's likely that the crazed meltdown is the purple elephant.  Makes sense to me.

Roger...

Grow up. All politicians lie.

Obama lied all the time. Clinton blatantly lied throughout the campaign. People like Schumer and Pelosi lie every day.

More to the point, when Obama told lies he intended to do so with the intent to mislead about very important things... like whether or not people could keep their insurance, keep their doctor, save money, or whether or not there were taxes involved with paying for his proposal. He lied about the details of the Iran deal, and held back secret side agreements from both the public and congress. When Clinton lied, she tried to tell the world that the FBI criminal investigation was really a "security probe" and that James Comey actually confirmed what she stated (when it was clear he did no such thing). She lied about why Americans were killed in an embassy, blaming a YouTube video in public, while telling everyone in private it was a terrorist attack. They even arrested and charged the guy who made the video in an attempt to push the lie even further.

Or Chuck Schumer demanding that USSC court nominees require 60 votes, when we have multiple members sitting on the bench who got less than 60 votes. Or Pelosi and Schumer both demanding that the "Courts are designed to be a policy check on the President" or that they cannot confirm an Attorney General unless he or she will be oppositional to the executive.

Meanwhile...

Trump talks about how large his election victory was and you get all foaming at the mouth. What difference does it really make? If the truth doesn't matter when it comes to large policy issues, dead Americans, and criminal investigations, or how our Constitution works... why should it "suddenly" become important today about how big an election victory was?

So really Roger... I don't have to condone any lying, but it seems like a large bit of hypocrisy for your or I to demand from this President what every prominent Democrat is allowed to do without consequence.

I think whether or not an election is a large victory can be parsed a lot of different ways. But whether or not you can keep your insurance or your doctor is fairly black and white.

I sort of expect politicians to lie, Roger. If we disqualified every politician who was loose with the truth, we wouldn't have anyone left in Washington.

You also forget that I basically am willing to "put up" with Trump, largely because he is not Clinton and because I would much rather see Trump nominate the Justices for the 187 open seats right now. I also am fairly convinced that he cannot do any "worse" than what we have had over the past two administrations. Perhaps a businessman's mentality will work better than a politician's mentality. Worse case scenario, we can vote him out after four years (although he would have to upset his base, which at this point doesnt' seem to be happening).

Lost the popular vote by the highest margin ever for an electoral college winner.

All of this of course feeds into the inferiority complex that forms the core of Donald Trump's sociopaths, and combined with his on-the-job failure to date, contributed to the meltdown of Princess Donna.

hey rog,

You might recall that the Huffington Post made a big deal of refusing to cover Trump on their political pages when he first announced his candidacy. They only carried him on their entertainment pages because they were so smart they knew he could not win.

Then he won.

When reality violates your ego that rudely, you either have to rewrite the movie in your head to recast yourself as an idiot, or you rewrite the movie to make yourself the hero who could see what others missed. Apparently the Huffington Post chose to rewrite their movie so Trump is a deranged monster, just like they warned us. That’s what they see. This isn’t an example of so-called “fake” news as we generally understand it. This is literally imaginary news. I believe the Huffington Post’s description of the press conference is literally what they saw. If you gave them lie detector tests, they would swear they saw a meltdown, and the lie detector would say they were telling the truth.

There are two clues that the Huffington Post is hallucinating and I’m not. The first clue is that they have a trigger and I don’t. Reality violated their egos, whereas I was predicting a Trump win all along. My world has been consistent with my ego. No trigger. All I have is a warm feeling of rightness.

The second clue is that the Huffington Post is seeing something that half the country doesn’t see. As a general rule, the person who sees the elephant in the room is the one hallucinating, not the one who can’t see the elephant. The Huffington Post is literally seeing something that is invisible to me and other observers. We see a President Trump talking the way he normally talks. They see a 77-minute meltdown.

President Donald Trump on Friday touted the latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner as proof of a coming American manufacturing renaissance. He toured the South Carolina facility and hailed it as a sign of steps toward generating more U.S factory jobs.

Nearly five years ago, President Barack Obama made a similar visit to the facility in Everett, Washington. His message: America needs to prepare for the loss of factory jobs to automation and retool its economy."

Yep, Obama was a downer and dullard, President Trump is a realist and an Optimus.

No it doesn't Boing has always been in the forefront of airplane manufacturing with everyone chasing them forever. This country is heading towards more and more automation, not more people. Anyone who thinks that is not true needs to check your pulse. BTW an aeroplane like the 787 costs are roughly 20% boing labor, 80% material and subcontracts.

Can't fool mother nature like CH can be fooled into thinking all the models are wrong! Enjoy the abnormal warmth, CH it should be short lived.

He's not crazy Roger....he is a master manipulator like PT Barnum and the weak minded are falling in line. Loved the local coverage here where they had a bunch of pre teen describing what a great business man donnie is. Brainwashed like CH came to mind.

CNN)Sen. John McCain slammed President Donald Trump's attacks on the media this week by noting dictators "get started by suppressing free press."

It was a startling observation from a sitting member of Congress against the President of the United States, especially considering McCain is a member of Trump's party.
"I hate the press," the Arizona Republican sarcastically told NBC News' Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press." "I hate you especially. But the fact is we need you. We need a free press. We must have it. It's vital."

But he continued, "If you want to preserve -- I'm very serious now -- if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press," McCain said in the interview. "And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That's how dictators get started."

I suspect that in the near future, McCain will not be alone among his fellow Republicans.

His unhinged campaign speech yesterday, is further evidence that he would like to be able to govern, like the CEO of a business. What he says, goes. But our Constitution prohibits such behavior. Our esteemed host, seems to have been conned into supporting anything the President does or says.

This is the open difference between Republicans and Liberals.

John can voice his opinion.

The left does not allow it.

John, John, get a grip! Who is “suppressing” the press? Do you seriously not understand the difference between criticizing the press and suppressing it? The press is not above criticism. On the contrary, it deserves to be called out constantly for bias and inaccuracy. President Trump has taken a good step in that direction, but a great deal more press criticism is in order.

Also: not calling on CNN in a White House press conference does not constitute “suppressing” CNN.
