Trump attacks Press...
Heads explode en masse...

This is not a way to conduct the presidency

Reality here folks. Trump is seventy years old. He turned a million dollar loan into a multi-billion dollar empire. He's been a successful reality television star. He won the GOP nomination over a loaded field, and went on to win the general election and become President. What's worked has worked, and he is unlikely to change. If I was a betting man, I'd wager that Donald Trump will likely change the Presidency more than the Presidency will change Donald Trump.

So the concept that reporters and authors and academics and historians (or whatever it is that some of these people want to call themselves) will be able to somehow shame Donald Trump into becoming what they would like him to be is pure nonsense.

Trump is sitting north of 85% approval with Republicans. Those who support Donald Trump, believe this sort of confrontation with the media is actually a good thing, overdue, and maybe even necessary. I only expect more of this sort of "conduct" from the President. Those who are offended by all of this, probably better just stay clear.

I have not said anything about the news conference. I've had to set back and try to absorb what happened today. We have never been exposed to anything like what we saw. It's bizarre and deeply troubling. He was trying to change the game, that being the Russian issues. I think that it might work. But the hour and seventeen minutes are going to be seen as a game changer. His comments came out like the ranting of a man who is completely disconnected from reality.

He spent a lot of time attacking the "fake news". When he was asked that if the news was based on undeniable facts, he said that no matter what the truth is, the truth is that he believes "because I'm involved, so I know whether you are telling the truth or not" He said that the media was attacking him, is that they were upset that Clinton lost. He claimed that his electoral college victory was the largest since Ronald Reagan. When the NBC reporter told him that George H W Bush and Barack Obama got more electoral college votes, he did not admit he was wrong.

The truth is, that I could fill five paragraphs with more verifiable evidence that he was lying or distorting the truth. The real issue, is that almost every nation around the world, are very disturbed by his truly bizarre performance. Our allies are correctly concerned on what he will do. He's the commander in chief of the most powerful military in the world. If you were honest and looked at this event, you would required to be very anxious. He is undeniably impulsive.

I'm not saying this because he's a Republican, I am deeply worried about what this 70 year old man may do, considering what we saw today. I'm an American first, our democratic republic, has the longest continuous government on earth. I'm quite certain that it will survive this. But for the first time in my lifetime, I am seriously concerned that he might get us into a Constitutional crisis, or start World War Three. The latter is probably not going to happen, despite his orders.

I am certain that the top level military leaders are concerned. The intelligence agencies are not telling him everything, because he would Tweet top secret data to attack anyone who has been criticised him.

Folks, we all need to be concerned, given his performance today.

hepard Smith, the Fox News anchor, on Thursday afternoon seemed to have had enough of Donald Trump’s slams at the media as peddlers of “fake news” — or, when it comes to CNN, “very fake news.”

“It is crazy what we are watching every day, it is absolutely crazy,” Smith said. “He keeps repeating ridiculous throwaway lines that are not true at all and sort of avoiding this issue of Russia as if we are some kind of fools for asking the question.”

Smith then started to look into the camera and added, “Really? Your opposition was hacked, and the Russians were responsible for it, and your people were on the phone on the same day it was happening, and we are fools for asking those questions? No sir, we are not fools for asking those questions, and we demand to know the answer to this question. You owe this to the American people.”

I'm here following through on what I pledged to do. That's all I'm doing. I put it out before the American people, got 306 electoral college votes. I wasn't supposed to get 222. They said there's no way to get 222. 230 is impossible. 270, which you need — that was laughable. We got 306. Because people came out and voted like they have never seen before. So that's how it goes. I guess it was the biggest electoral college win since Ronald Reagan. In other words, the media is trying to attack our administration because they know we are following through on pledges that we made, and they are not happy about it for whatever reason. And, but a lot of people are happy about it. In fact, I'll be in Melbourne, Florida, at 5 on Saturday, and I heard, just heard the crowds are massive that want to be there. I turn on the TV, open the newspaper and I see stories of chaos. Chaos. Yet it is the exact opposite.

Seven crazy shit comments.

Trump says that while the leaks coming out of his administration are real, the news stories being written about them are still fake news.

When asked to explain the seeming contradiction in his desire to both crack down on leaks in his administration and to attack news stories based on those leaks, the president simply said the leaks from the administration were real, but the news they generated was fake.”The leaks are real,” Trump said. “The leaks are absolutely real. The news is fake because so much of the news is fake.”

Trump falsely claims that his electoral college victory this past November was the biggest since Ronald Reagan’s. With 306 electoral college votes, Trump’s margin of victory last year was smaller than not only Ronald Reagan’s, but also George H.W. Bush’s victory in 1988, Bill Clinton’s two victories in 1992 and 1996, and Barack Obama’s two wins in 2008 and 2012.When confronted by this, Trump simply replied that he “was given that information,” without acknowledging that the information was false.

Trump said he was fine with WikiLeaks because it never leaked classified information. When asked to resolve the contradiction between his current crusade against leaks purportedly coming from the intelligence community and his past praise of WikiLeaks for its leaking of damaging information on Hillary Clinton, Trump falsely claimed that WikiLeaks doesn’t leak classified information.

Trump dismisses GOP town hall protesters because most of them are Democrats. When asked about the rowdy protesters from constituents that many Republican lawmakers have facede people who voted for Republicans in the first place, and thus shouldn’t be taken into consideration. “They are not the Republican people that our representatives represent,” the president said of the protesters.

Trump insists that the alternative to getting along with Russia could be “nuclear holocaust.” When asked about his repeated praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump once again said that he hoped to get along with the Kremlin, while not guaranteeing that he would be able to do so.Trump then veered off course and said that relations between the two countries were important because otherwise the result could be “nuclear holocaust.” “Nuclear holocaust would be like no other,” he said. “They’re a very powerful nuclear country, so are we.”

Trump shouts down a Jewish reporter who asked him about rising anti-Semitism. When a reporter from a Jewish publication asked Trump to address the rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes around the country, Trump shot back at him for supposedly asking an unfair question. “It’s not a fair question,” Trump said to the reporter, and then told him to “sit down.”Trump then went on to say that he was the least anti-Semitic person in the world.

Trump asked a black reporter to help him set up a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus. When Trump was asked by reporter April Ryan if he’d meet with the CBC, Trump asked her if they were “friends of hers” and then instructed her to “set up a meeting,” as he apparently assumed that she knew them because she was black as well.

Mexico City (AFP) - Ford is sticking with its plan to build two new factories in Mexico, despite an announcement last month that it had scrapped plans for a plant in the central state of San Luis Potosi.

The US carmaker said a planned factory in the central state of Guanajuato will build engines and transmissions, while another in the northern city of Chihuahua will make car parts for use by Ford factories in the United States, South America and Asia.

The two facilities will cost about $2.5 billion and employ some 3,800 people, said Gabriel Lopez, president and CEO of Ford Mexico.

Ford without warning last month canceled plans to build a $1.6 billion project in San Luis Potosi.

Outside of the Right Wing Denial Bubble

Not sure what anyone is denying here Roger. It it what it is. Trump came out for a Press Conference that everyone was sure he was going to get skewered in a dozen different ways.

He turned the entire event on it's head... and made it about "fake news" and "media bias" and simply flat out denied any and all allegations. No double speak, or politician style non-denial denials. No fancy explanations. Just a basic simple... you're allegations are false, fake news, and I won't take the time to address them any more than to tell you that you are all full of shit.

Maybe he's telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Maybe he's not. But we know for sure that the press isn't telling the truth. We know for sure that in the year 2017 that there is no more such thing as objective news. Only partisan allegations and partisan denials.

Trump understands this as well as anyone. If the press doesn't bother themselves with getting the facts right, and providing objective information to the general public... then they have no business criticizing the President for not taking their questions serious.

He no longer has to answer questions from the press that he can simply flat out call "fake news". This "formula" of putting two and two together to get five, and then demanding someone else be held accountable for their wrong answer. Guilty until proven innocent won't work. Better have your ducks in a row if you want to throw the allegations out at a press conference. You come at Trump with innuendo and flimsy evidence... he will simply throw it right back in your face.

And why the hell not?

This morning driving into work, I was listening to the local dominant FM radio Morning show. I know at one time, this KQ morning show was the highest rated non-syndicated radio show in the country. They pull like a 40 share here.

They talked about the presser. Everyone was like.. it was wonderful. It was the greatest thing. It was fun to watch.

And quite frankly, none of these people are big Trump fans. But what they are (like most Americans) is sick and tired of a biased media who believes that the world revolves around their opinions.

So it's not so much about Trump with them. It's just that someone was willing to take the media to the woodshed. That someone stood up and basically flat out called them "fake news" and refused to play the game by their rules.

That's what people see as so refreshing about this. They are not really digging into the substance of any of it. They don't care about the nuances of who was sort of lying and who was sort of telling the truth. This back and forth between a bunch of people skirting the truth with political double speak has gotten to the point where nobody cared to ever watch those things.

But this was entirely different. The media (which for most people has similar popularity to Charles Manson and genital warts) was attacked and people LOVED IT! They loved the fact that this is the place where generally the media "attacks" and instead they were on the defensive and probably left thinking to themselves... what the hell.

I know a little about Boeing and it's history in Seattle. Drive by the Boeing plant all the time. My fiance lives in a neighborhood just within Seattle (close to Renton) that was at one time mostly Boeing houses.

But history is besides the point here Opie. It's 2017 and Unions don't serve the same purpose they once did. Boeing made a decision to open a new plant where they did largely (as you keep repeating) because it's a right to work state. If Boeing wanted their plant to be unionized, would they have built it somewhere else.

It seems to me that you just seem to see something "inherently wrong" (without explanation as to why)... with the whole concept of right to work and the fact that most workers in 2017 don't really want to be part of a union anymore...

C.H. Truth said...

He didn't try to unite the country.

In other words, Donald Trump is doing what he said he would do (and what his supporters assumed he would do) when he was elected.

The left believes it was bad enough that he was elected. But to actually govern like he said he would is simply rubbing salt in the wound.

But it would be sort of like expecting Obama to continue to follow the governing principals and policies of the Bush administration, as to try to "unite the country". But Obama said "I won, now you Republicans go stand in a corner and twiddle your thumbs. I have no other use for you."

Likewise, Trump is going to govern as he said he would when he was campaigning. He has no obligation to play along with what the Washington establishment or the political media wants him to do... in the name of 'unity'.

Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, according to a draft memo obtained by The Associated Press.

The 11-page document calls for the unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.

Four states that border on Mexico are included in the proposal — California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — but it also encompasses seven states contiguous to those four — Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the AP report was "100 percent not sure" and "irresponsible." ''There is no effort at all to utilize the National Guard to round up unauthorized immigrants," he said.

Governors in the 11 states would have a choice whether to have their guard troops participate, according to the memo, written by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, a retired four-star Marine general.

0linsky's faithful man-gina is very upset:

“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd on Thursday slammed President Trump’s efforts to “delegitimize” the media as “un-American.”

“This not a laughing matter. I'm sorry, delegitimizing the press is unAmerican,” Todd tweeted.

un-clutch those pearls, rog:

Under current rules, even if the proposal is implemented, there would not be immediate mass deportations. Those with existing deportation orders could be sent back to their countries of origin without additional court proceedings. But deportation orders generally would be needed for most other immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

The troops would not be nationalized, remaining under state control.

huh. the trump administration is not even seriously considering it, while 0linsky actually DID it:

HIDALGO, TEX. — President Obama’s decision last year to send 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border may have been smart politics, but a growing number of skeptics say the deployment is an expensive and inefficient mission that has made little difference in homeland security.

Critics of the deployment include budget hawks, who say it is a waste of money, and residents here along the border, who say they are tired of seeing armed troops in their back yard.

State Department officials worry that the domestic use of U.S. troops increases the perception that the border is militarized, while Chamber of Commerce boosters say the National Guard presence sends the message that the American side of the border is a dangerous place, though it is not. Crime statistics show that the border is one of the safer regions in the country.

now why would 0linsky do THIS on his way out the door?

This story, from the Jan. 12, 2017, edition of the New York Times, was little-remarked upon at the time, but suddenly has taken on far greater significance in light of current events:

In its final days, the Obama administration has expanded the power of the National Security Agency to share globally intercepted personal communications with the government’s 16 other intelligence agencies before applying privacy protections.

The new rules significantly relax longstanding limits on what the N.S.A. may do with the information gathered by its most powerful surveillance operations, which are largely unregulated by American wiretapping laws. These include collecting satellite transmissions, phone calls and emails that cross network switches abroad, and messages between people abroad that cross domestic network switches.

The change means that far more officials will be searching through raw data. Essentially, the government is reducing the risk that the N.S.A. will fail to recognize that a piece of information would be valuable to another agency, but increasing the risk that officials will see private information about innocent people.

One of the central questions behind the Mike Flynn flap that should have been asked but largely wasn't is: who was wiretapping the general? The answer, we know now, was the National Security Agency, formerly known as No Such Agency, the nation's foremost signals-intelligence (SIGINT) collection department.

Sounds like a great idea Roger! I am glad these things are being leaked. Must scare the bejeebers out of illegals living here. They say self deportation is already happening in record numbers. This sort of story might just lead to "more of them" self deporting, especially those who may have criminal records and could be subject to additional issues if caught.

But here is a thought though... If an illegal immigrant committed a felony while "living nowhere near the Mexican border" - would that make it any less of a felony? Is there really a stronger case for deporting illegals that are closer to the Mexican border or is that just irrelevant hyperbole? Just curious...

Much of seventh-floor staff, who work for the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources and the Counselor offices, were told today that their services were no longer needed.

These staffers in particular are often the conduit between the secretary’s office to the country bureaus, where the regional expertise is centered. Inside the State Department, some officials fear that this is a politically-minded purge that cuts out much-needed expertise from the policy-making, rather than simply reorganizing the bureaucracy.

There are clear signals being sent that many key foreign policy portfolios will be controlled directly by the White House, rather than through the professional diplomats. "

Imported gang violence continues to afflict Virginia: authorities charged illegal alien suspects with murder and all ten suspects for gang participation and abduction on Thursday for the “brutal” slaying of 15-year-old Damaris Reyes Rivas.

Police arrested ten in connection with Rivas’ death: four adults and six teenagers. FOX5 reports “Jose Ivan Castillo Rivas, 18, Springfield, Wilmer A. Sanchez Serrano, 21, Cindy Blanco Hernandez, 18, and Aldair J. Miranda Carcamo, 18” are adults. Another 17-year-old, Venus Iraheta, who has lived in the U.S. for the past ten years—making her a “DREAMer” eligible for amnesty under an Obama executive order—is also in police custody. Police did not identify the other five juveniles. All ten face charges of abduction and gang participation. Rivas and Serrano are charged with murder.

Well I read through the transcript of Trump's press conference and there weren't many of the factual errors that the Washington Post and NY Times are so fond of complaining about.

What did strike me, and I don't think I'm being snobbish here, was Trump's rudimentary vocabulary and almost childish reasoning. It is concerning, because he sounds like the stereotypical "dumb guy" that has trouble expressing himself. Maybe he has deliberately altered his speech patterns to "dumb it down", but are there any publicly available samples of Trump communicating in any other way?

All Trump has EVER done is play defense. Blubbering about the press is not playing offense. It's the equivalent of running home to mommy and crying that everyone is picking on you.

wphamilton said...

No I'm not. I bend over backwards to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he has the vocabulary of a 10 year old. And vocabulary is an excellent indicator of intelligence, so there's no confusion there. Doesn't that bother you, that our President is apparently below average in intelligence?

C.H. Truth said...

Doesn't that bother you, that our President is apparently below average in intelligence?

I don't know W.P... smart enough to earn himself a few billion, and eventually get elected President of the United States.

I think rather than judging the qualifications of a potential Presidency (or any job for that matter)... I might look for a past record of tangible accomplishment and success long before I would dissect a person's use of vocabulary.

I think a good case in point was the fact that Obama had a pretty decent vocabulary. He was, in fact, a good speaker (when he had a teleprompter). But at the end of the day, for being President for eight years, there is not much to show for it. What there is for accomplishment still out there (for now)... are questionable at best in terms of being a success.

So perhaps you get what you are looking for. Trump will likely be a much more active and tangible President... while he will never give the rousing speech that Obama was capable of.

opie said...

KD, if what Trump really meant was some oversimplified idea of what he wants to happen, with literally no detail, then yes at the end of his speeches I am clear about what he meant.

CH, something for sure has gone right for Trump, but it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with his intelligence. Perhaps it proves that if you took any average person, raised by a multi-millionaire real estate tycoon, gift him with a few hundred million dollars and a successful business, and there's a good chance that he can hold onto it. Winning the Presidency - in the right place at the right time. Surely you don't dispute that, do you?

C.H. Truth said...

W.P.

You act as if Donald Trump's success can be all attributed to a couple of lucky bounces. The fact is that all accomplishment is the culmination of specific actions and decisions taken over a great deal of time. He started over five hundred companies. His wealth has continuously risen. He had one of the most successful television franchises. He had to win the nomination in a manner completely differently than he won the general election, while going up against a slew of people with much more specific experience.

This is one of those times where you and I see completely different situations. I see someone with a proven long term record of success simply extending that success into the field of Politics in a manner never done before. (and for the record, I do believe he understood and ultimately exploited the mood of the country for his politician benefit - not by chance)

You see a below average person, who has stumbled his way through life, accumulating 4.5 billion and television fame because of good fortune, and then basically being handed the Presidency by simply being lucky in his timing.

One of us is hallucinating. One of us sees a reality that does not mesh well with our ego driven concept of how we believe the world should be, which as triggered us to see this hallucination. One of us it imagining a purple elephant and accusing the person who doesn't see it of being the one hallucinating.

Trumptards claim that Trump is a brilliant strategist, who reached his level of success via that strategic brilliance.
Some non-Trumptards claim that Trump is a below-average, who has gotten everything he has through pure luck.

Neither view is realistic. But there's a third option:

Trump is an idiot-savant, an otherwise below average person with a single highly developed talent. Often this talent will be practically useless, but not always.

The highly developed talent in Trump's case is scamming people, and business, religion, and politics are places where a person with that talent can go far. Trump has exploited that talent in all three, and it explains perfectly how got where he is today.

C.H. Truth said...

scamming people?

Isn't that just a different manner to say what many (including myself) have been arguing for some time... Trump has serious persuasion skills. You look at the expensive neighborhoods where you have the 6 bedroom 4 bath 4 car garage type houses and you run into two types of people. The executive and the salesmen. Many times they are "both". But a good salesman always has a job somewhere and can always make money.

But certainly persuasion is a pretty decent skill to have. Perhaps one of the most versatile, functional, and important skills to have. Hard to get anywhere in life if you cannot persuade people.

But at the end of the day... the only people who are having the wool pulled over their eyes are those who actually believe that Trump is the only one who uses the technique. Obama did it. Pretty damned well. Clinton tried... but simply never really had it in her.

opie said...

Isn't that just a different manner

You gotta be kidding.....Trump practices BOHECA management style. Bend Over, Here It Comes Again as he stiffs everyone in sight

wphamilton said...

Whether or not Trump is an idiot savant with the talent of scamming people, it's the "idiot" part that should concern us. I do look at the character first, the leader's ethics if he has any. But with Trump it's a given, has always been a given, that he doesn't care who gets screwed if it contributes to his "success". If Trump has any special talent at all, it's likely related to his ability to ignore any incipient scruples and then dodge the consequences.

All of Trump's successes has always had the carnival element. We all know that having seen it develop since his Casino days, and prior to that if you were paying attention, and it's precisely why most people including our host felt like Trump had little if any chance even in the Republican Primaries. I am astounded that someone's knowledge of Trump's history could simply slough away after his election. I think it's denial, and wishful thinking.

So we have that kind of person as President. We've had them before, we have to accept it now and deal with it. But it's the oversimplification of everything he expresses that worries me - the level of ignorance and childish thinking, if it reflects his reality, means that Trump can't understand the problems themselves let alone the ramifications of his simpleton solutions. In that case, the consequences will be randomly disastrous, and it will be up to the Republicans to work around his mistakes. The prospects of that aren't all that promising.

PNC said...

"Isn't that just a different manner to say what many (including myself) have been arguing for some time... Trump has serious persuasion skills."

Not really. We're talking specifically about the ability (and, evidently, innate desire) to persuade people of things that aren't true.
