Obamacare is still doomed...

  • The conventional political wisdom (which has been more wrong than right in recent years) suggests that the GOP's inability to agree on a plan to replace Obamacare means that Obamacare must be here to stay.
  • Fundamental logic and objective reasoning suggests that a failing law is still a failing law, and the fact that it hasn't been repealed within two months of a new Presidency doesn't suddenly make the law successful.

The problems with Obamacare are very real, very serious, and nothing happened this week that moves us any closer to fixing any of it. Let's be crystal clear here folks. without more funding or serious changes, many pieces of Obamacare will fail on their own.

As of 2017 a huge chunk of the country has only one insurance provider for their exchange. By 2018, there will be exchanges that have no insurance providers offering coverage. How does Paul Ryan pulling the repeal and replace bill change these problematic facts?

Short answer: it doesn't. The Republicans are not going to offer additional subsidies or Obamacare "upgrades" to help fend off collapse. The Democrats will fight any sort of repeal of insurance coverage requirements or mandates that have been handcuffing insurance companies and ultimately causing them to lose money. They will likely fight any repeal of the individual mandate, or any other bill (for that matter) with the word repeal in it.

In a Mexican standoff like this, the people who lose are going to be exactly those that both sides claim they are trying to protect. Meanwhile the GOP will be looking for their next legislative move to get the train back on track, and the Democrats will be looking to deflect blame for future problems and political fallout that everyone instinctively knows are coming. But whether Americans end up blaming the GOP for not fixing it, or the Democrats for protection it... ultimately Obamacare is still doomed to be seen as a failure.

The bullshit continues, not only in the WH, but here also.

Justin Sink Fri, Mar 24 8:52 AM PDT

President Donald Trump touted Charter Communications Inc.’s plans to hire 20,000 workers over the next four years, an initiative the cable company has been discussing since at least June 2015.

“This is great for their workers, for their customers, and certainly great for the United States,” Trump told reporters Friday after meeting with Charter Chief Executive Officer Tom Rutledge and Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Charter said it will invest $25 billion on broadband infrastructure and technology in the U.S. over the next four years -- a figure that would be in line with its capital expenditures of $7.1 billion in 2016.

Trump has a history of re-announcing hirings and investments that have long been in the works when he meets with corporate executives. Late last year, Trump touted an effort by Sprint Corp. to bring 5,000 jobs to the U.S., hiring that parent company SoftBank Group Corp. had already announced. Wan-Mart Stores Inc. and General Motors Co. have also repackaged earlier plans for presidential purposes.

The CBO has reported that the ACA is not in a death spiral. Only weak minded apologists like you say otherwise. Yes it needs some work and maybe just maybe, it might happen in spite of you hoping otherwise.

Well the CBO can state whatever they want (and they usually do). But here is the rub, Opie... reality doesn't conform to anyone's opinion.

The CBO "report" does not change that the mix of consumers is lacking in young healthy Americans, over represented by the elderly and the sick... and that premiums and deductibles are rising too fast to sustain.

Insurance companies are dropping out of the exchanges for "exactly" the reasons described by a "death spiral". I guess those with real skin in the game are not quite as "mesmerized" by the opinions of the politicians from the CBO as you are.

Stomping your feet and holding your breath does not make your opinion any more valid.. The CBO is a POS until they publish something you like....Just like all the biased approval polls and GW data, are just no good because "I say so".... Your argument is nothing more than repeating the talking points of the right and basically are as relevant as loretta.... You wishing for failure will be exacerbated by Price sabotaging everything he can.....that will be the real reason...your sides complete an utter failure to do something so easy as trump care with such majorities in both houses . A group of losers to say the least. When you finally come up with an original thought on getting a decent bill passed, you got nothing as usual

Opie

Wow... must be interesting to live in a world where there is no actual reality, rather only differing opinions.

An insurance death spiral, by definition Opie... is when the make up of the insured continue to gravitate towards the older and less healthy, while younger more healthy people start to drop out. Thus the insurance companies either lose money or the rates increase to the point where the insured can no longer afford them.

So the question Opie... isn't what any particular politician does or doesn't state. The question is whether or not insurance companies are losing money and whether or not premiums are rising because of the Demographics.

Reality shows that premiums on the exchanges are rising.
There are no where near as many young and healthy people signing up.
Insurance companies are dropping out.

The only flaw in the argument is that the expected balance never really materialized on the exchanges. The spiral comes from the fact that Federal subsidies provided to insurance companies as an enticement to join the exchanges are running out, and because they no longer can count on subsidies these companies cannot make money unless they push the rates through the sky.

The CBO can continue to erroneously predict that more and more young healthy people will join the exchanges, just as they can factor into their future predictions their assumption that the States currently not participating in the Medicaid expansion will suddenly decide to participate.

But those are just future predictions, Opie. So far their previous predictions have not corresponded with reality. No reason to believe that suddenly they will start being right.

Yes CH, the little fantasy island in your head is pretty interesting. Your opinion is based on bias and hate, the CBO does it for a living and have a very successful record. Do you think the trump care would have failed if the CBO's report showed no one losing anything and record deficit reduction???? Pretty funny you think you opinion is worth anything, let alone being correct and published. Too funny. As to differing opinions, I'll take anything they do over yours without question.Suggest you look up their forecasts on the ACA,,,,,they were pretty prescient . Yep, CH is full of Loretta again... from my link since he is as lazy as menstral boy when it comes to accuracy......

The CBO actually nailed the overall impact of the law on the uninsured pretty closely. It predicted a big drop in the percentage of people under age 65 who would lack insurance, and that turned out to be the case. CBO projected that in 2016 that nonelderly rate would fall to 11 percent, and the latest figure put the actual rate at 10.3 percent.
It’s true (as Trump administration officials have repeatedly pointed out) that CBO greatly overestimated the number who would get government-subsidized coverage through the new insurance exchanges. But at the same time, CBO underestimated the number who would get coverage through expanding Medicaid.

Maybe you can make up some kellyanne alternative facts of your own.....LOL

By Caroline Humer and Yasmeen Abutaleb

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that Obamacare was "exploding" after Republican lawmakers shelved legislation that would have dismantled the healthcare law.

That's not going to happen this month. Probably not even this year.

The more than 12 million people who bought 2017 health insurance plans on HealthCare.gov and other websites the law created are not in danger of losing their healthcare or having their premiums go up right now, experts say.

But 2018 is another story.

Republicans could choose to pass a budget that defunds Obamacare's cost-sharing subsidies, which help low-income people cover out-of-pocket and other medical costs. But that would be highly unpopular among consumers who would likely blame the president and Congress for skyrocketing healthcare costs, experts said.

"That is one of the ways that is available to monkey wrench the Affordable Care Act," said Morgan Tilleman, an associate with the law firm Foley & Lardner, who represents insurers.

Obamacare, former Democratic President Barack Obama’s signature legislation created by the Affordable Care Act of 2010, has had a tough beginning. The mix of sick and healthy customers has been worse than expected, and premium rates on the

Can easily be rectified, if the tea baggers STFU and congress does something other than whine like little girls.....

TrumpCare Is Dead Thanks to the incompetent President

President Donald Trump is a businessman and reality television show. He called a reporter for the FAKE NEWS, Washington Post out of the blue. Bob Costa got a call on his private number, and to his surprise, it was the President of the United States. He told him that they were going to hold the vote on the house version of the Republican health care bill. Speaker Ryan requested this, because the Republican representatives have read the polls, and the public meetings had surprised by the intensity of the public, in support of Obamacare. Many of them would have been in danger of losing their seats in the house.

But that's not what the President said. In this potion of the conversation, the President blamed the Democrats, for not participating in the bill. That's a completely ignorant comment. The Republicans refused to honesty work with the Obama administration or the house and Senate leadership

By Robert Costa March 24 at 5:59 PM

"President Trump called me on my cellphone Friday afternoon at 3:31 p.m. At first I thought it was a reader with a complaint since it was a blocked number.

Instead, it was the president calling from the Oval Office. His voice was even, his tone muted. He did not bury the lead.

“Hello, Bob,” Trump began. “So, we just pulled it.”

Trump was speaking, of course, of the Republican plan to overhaul the Affordable Care Act, a plan that had been languishing for days amid unrest throughout the party as the president and his allies courted members and pushed for a vote.

Before I could ask a question, Trump plunged into his explanation of the politics of deciding to call off a vote on a bill he had been touting.

The Democrats, he said, were to blame.

“We couldn’t get one Democratic vote, and we were a little bit shy, very little, but it was still a little bit shy, so we pulled it,” Trump said.

Trump said he would not put the bill on the floor in the coming weeks. He is willing to wait and watch the current law continue and, in his view, encounter problems. And he believes that Democrats will eventually want to work with him on some kind of legislative fix to Obamacare, although he did not say when that would be."
----------------------------------
In his comments seen yesterday afternoon, placed the blame on the Democrats. In those comments in reaction to claims, that he was going to put the repeal and replace Obamacare in the first 64 days. There are many examples on YouTube videos, where he said that his very first act as President, was to repeal and replace Obamacare. In the same videos showing that his replacement would provide low cost insurance coverage to everyone, at a lower cost than in Obamacare. In every single analysis of the proposed Bill did not include everyone, or at a lower cost. The 64 days comment is actually true, but a distraction that ignores his repeated vow to repeal and replace Obamacare. He suffered a historical defeat.

This defeat, to the primary policy of his campaign, has never happened before. Ever

During the last week, the President met with house Republicans in an effort to get their support for the bill. Multiple reports, anonymously of course, from the Republican congressional members said that they were shocked, because he had no understanding of the bill, and no experience on the politics involved.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

In this defeat, he has completely lost any ability to work with the Republicans in the house and Senate. His record low polling numbers, and much more important, he has no influence from this day forward because they now understand that how little he knows. And they don't think that he's going to work hard enough and study the complexity of governance. It is likely that unless this 70 years old man will change his behavior, and like most successful Presidents, and spend hours upon hours daily, studying intelligence reports, and working with consultants. But not the cloud
President. He lives in an impenetrable balloon of alt right rants by Steve Bannon, Fox news and a lot of time watching political television shows on the FAKE NEWS networks, and his anger motivates him to lash out on Twitter. He isn't going to change his behavior. This is what we face for as long as he is the President.

Besides that behavior pattern, the most disturbing thing is his views on reality. A free and unhindered press is vital to a democracy. Throughout the last century, and I know that some people won't like this, is dictatorships were able to get a significant percentage of the population, to believe in an alternate reality. Populations tire of stories about important issues. They want to move on. People like Donald Trump are adept at changing the topic. His use of Twitter, to make a undeniably inaccurate comments on the alleged wiretapping at the Trump Tower by former President Obama has effectively kept attention off the alleged cooperation with the Russian government. James Coney stated that they had been conducting a criminal investigation on that issue since July of 2016.

This and many other issues get in the way of attention on his performance as the Republican President. But we have been learning how to get past the cloud cover and have seen how inept and irresponsible behavior as the President of the United States. His polling numbers are at a record low, and barring a traumatic event, he has effectively lost control of the national agenda.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The only way the Republicans will be able to get anything done on health care, and the polls all show that a majority want health care as an entitlement. IF Mr Trump let's the ACA remain and fix some of the problems with the help of the Democrats. if Trump does not work with them, he will be a one term, disaster and the trifecta that can't even unite on a plan of their own, will lose the majority within four years.
