Pro Trump Political Pundit Rachel Maddow has the scoop!

Obama and Sanders paid less in taxes than Trump!

Rachel Maddow has the scoop. She tweeted it out in advance of her big show. Exposure at the highest levels of which politicians are paying taxes and which ones are not. Leave it to MSNBC and "The Rachel" for coming to Donald Trump's aide in an area where he has been unfairly maligned.

Apparently in the biggest scoop since that one thing about the Duck Dynasty cast, Rachel Maddow exposed the fact that Donald Trump paid 38 million in taxes in 2005. That's actually a 25% tax rate, and shows that he pays more in percent than either Barack Obama (19.5%) or Bernie Sanders (13.5%).

Maddow went on to talk about the hypocrisy of those politicians on the left who demand big Government, but seem unwilling to personally pay for it. She also attacked Hillary Clinton for making the false accusation during the campaign that Donald Trump had paid nothing in taxes.

Another bullshit headline that the completely dishonest CH puts forth so his weak minded followers like rat and loretta feel big. Yes he paid 25% effective tax rate vs obama's 18% . BTW idiot, that was a rather surprisingly good amount he paid which makes me want to believe, if other years were similar....I would say he paid his fair share. JMO. But me thinks other years involved zero federal taxes which would really annoy me. That's why he's hiding like the child he is.

Here are Trump's major sources of income:

Interest income: $9 million
Business income: $42 million
Capital gains: $32 million
Rental income: $67 million
Miscellaneous: $2 million
Total: $152 million
After a writeoff of $103 million, his adjusted gross income clocked in at $49 million. His taxable income came in at $31 million and his tax bill for this was $5 million. That's a tax rate of about 3 percent. Bingo!!!

The Alternative Minimum Tax kicked in, which meant he had to pay $38 million in taxes. I guess it's no wonder that Trump doesn't think very highly of the Alternative Minimum Tax. For a whopping 28% rate.

I wish we had the schedules.

If you subscribe to the theory that Trump’s tax returns include all kinds of evidence of nefarious criminal activity… what has the Internal Revenue Service been doing all these years? They had time to target all of those small-time Tea Party groups seeking tax-exempt status, but they ignored the criminal mastermind who lives in a giant golden tower in the middle of Manhattan?

The new conventional wisdom this morning is that Trump or someone close to him mailed them to get the media on a wild goose chase, or to fool them into breathlessly touting a tax return that shows Trump obeying all appropriate tax laws and paying quite a bit of tax.

“Almost as if somebody selected the single year and the precise 2 pages that would do Trump least harm- and found a way to release only those,” says David Frum.

“The Trump camp released one positive tax return to distract from Russia hearings and the Trumpcare meltdown. That’s painfully obvious,” declares Joe Scarborough.

This is all entirely possible, but think about what had to happen here. Trump (or more likely, some associate with his blessing) anonymously mails copies of the pages to David Cay Johnston. He doesn’t know for certain that Johnston will go to Maddow. Johnston’s an experienced reporter, and could have looked at the tax return (from twelve years ago!) and concluded he had a story, but not a particularly shocking or scandalous one. It’s Trump’s “luck” that Maddow chose the treat the tax return with the wildest hype since Geraldo Rivera opened up Al Capone’s vault.

The White House released President Trump’s tax return from 2005 on Tuesday, which showed that he paid $38 million on $150 million in income. This disproves the premise of a major New York Times story in the lead-up to the November election.

The Oct. 1 Times story was headlined: “Donald Trump Tax Records Show He Could Have Avoided Taxes for Nearly Two Decades, The Times Found.” The New York Times reporters wrote: “Donald J. Trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 income tax returns, a tax deduction so substantial it could have allowed him to legally avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years, records obtained by The New York Times show.”

This report was so substantial that Trump was asked about it at a presidential debate and responded that he used tax deductions in order to not pay federal income taxes, but did not say for how many years.

The tax return released Tuesday shows that the most time Trump could have deducted money from his 1995 tax return to avoid paying taxes is nine years. This is half the amount of time the Times implied was the case.

President Donald Trump is set to sign a sweeping directive to dramatically shrink the role climate change plays in decisions across the government, ranging from appliance standards to pipeline approvals, according to a person familiar with the administration’s plan.

The order, which could be signed this week, goes far beyond a targeted assault on Obama-era measures blocking coal leasing and throttling greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that has been discussed for weeks. Some of the changes could happen immediately; others could take years to implement.

It aims to reverse President Barack Obama’s broad approach for addressing climate change. One Obama-era policy instructed government agencies to factor climate change into formal environmental reviews, such as that for the Keystone XL pipeline. Trump’s order also will compel a reconsideration of the government’s use of a metric known as the "social cost of carbon" that reflects the potential economic damage from climate change. It was used by the Obama administration to justify a suite of regulations.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway sitting nearby in the briefing room, press secretary Sean Spicer insisted she was joking when she made her infamous comment about microwave surveillance.

“I will just say the president has tweeted about this,” said Spicer when asked to clarify whether Trump thought he had been betrayed by his microwave during Tuesday’s briefing, “he’s pretty clear there was surveillance, conducted during the 2016 election; going to wait for the conclusion of that. I think there’s pretty sound evidence that the microwave is not a sound way of surveilling someone, and I think that has been cleaned up; it was made in jest, so I think we can put that to rest.”

This ruling means that travelers from six Muslim-majority countries and refugees will be able to travel to the US.

The Trump administration took over a month to rewrite the travel ban order after multiple federal courts blocked its implementation last month.

Unlike the previous executive order, the new one removed Iraq from the list of banned countries, exempted those with green cards and visas, and removed a provision arguably prioritizes certain religious minorities.

Despite this changes, US District Court Judge Derrick Watson concluded that the new executive order still failed to pass legal muster.

Obama-Appointed Hawaiian Judge Freezes Trump Travel Restrictions Before They Take Effect

Of course.

This Twitter thread by a lawyer associated with CATO notes this judge did not write much about the POLICY at all -- instead, he spends almost all his time arguing about Trump's MOTIVES that animated it.

He can't find anything unconstitutional about the actual policy, so he just says "But this guy is motivated by anti-Islamic bigotry so the policy, somehow, becomes unconstitutional."

Which puts us in the Alice in Wonderland situation of one president not being able to enact a policy, whereas another president -- one who has all his Social Justice Warrior Wokeness boxes ticked -- CAN enact the very same policy.

He also notes the people who brought the lawsuit (nominally -- I'm sure this was really a case of an interest group recruiting potential plaintiffs) didn't even apply for a waiver, which they could in fact do, meaning they did not exhaust all possible alternatives before filing to enjoin the executive order. He says this is a very easy reversal, based just on that.

Of course, that assumes the Ninth Circus justices care about the law when they issue their rulings -- which is very much in doubt.
