Obama didn't wire tap on the campaign. It was specifically designed for investigating one individual. It's apparent that our esteemed host actually read the entire article. I did, completely before I posted it, and emphasized the most important.

The Trump administration, as of this writing, has responded, neither did the justice department.

FISA warrants have a very high requirements, and is issued only if there is probable cause". That is a very high standard. As of now, we don't know why they requested the FISA warrant, or what they have found. But, C H, you know how difficult it is to be granted warrant. It's much higher than regular criminal warrants.

Page was a "low level" national security advisor according to Mr Trump in public comments. But he did have a history of dealing with the Russian government.

There is nothing in the Washington Post story, that indicates that this to support the tweet bomb.

Commonsense said...

Seems the FISA warrent was based on the discredited Trump dossier manufacture by former British agent Christopher Steele. Some high bar.

In fact, FISA warrants have a much lower standard of probable cause than a regular warrant and since they are secret this is no chance for citizens targeted by them to challenge them as improper.

Like for example, the evidence on which the probable cause was based on was phony.

The judges who rule on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) requests oversee the nation’s most sensitive national security cases,

An application for electronic surveillance under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act need not show evidence of a crime. But the information obtained through the intercepts can be used to open a criminal investigation and may be used in a prosecution.

The application also showed that the FBI and the Justice Department’s national security division have been seeking since July to determine how broad a network of accomplices Russia enlisted in attempting to influence the 2016 presidential election, the officials said.

Since the 90-day warrant was first issued, it has been renewed more than once by the FISA court, the officials said.

The FISA court requires more probable cause to issue extensions.

Seriously folks, I have been through this entire article, and there is no evidence that supports the tweet bomb. Feel free to provide anything that supports your allegations.

FBI obtained FISA warrant to monitor Trump adviser Carter Page
What you need to know about former Trump adviser Carter Page Play Video2:20

The FBI obtained a secret court order to monitor communications from former Trump adviser Carter Page in summer 2016, according to law enforcement and intelligence officials. (Sarah Parnass/The Washington Post)
By Ellen Nakashima, Devlin Barrett and Adam Entous April 11 at 7:11 PM
The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.

The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.

This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents. Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump’s favor.

Page has not been accused of any crimes, and it is unclear whether the Justice Department might later seek charges against him or others in connection with Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The counterintelligence investigation into Russian efforts to influence U.S. elections began in July, officials have said. Most such investigations don’t result in criminal charges.

The officials spoke about the court order on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss details of a counterintelligence probe.

During an interview with the Washington Post editorial page staff in March 2016, Trump identified Page, who had previously been an investment banker in Moscow, as a foreign policy adviser to his campaign. Campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks later described Page’s role as “informal.”

Adam B. Schiff (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Officials said some of the information in the dossier has been verified by U.S. intelligence agencies, and some of it hasn’t, while other parts are unlikely to ever be proved or disproved.

On Tuesday, Page dismissed what he called “the dodgy dossier” of false allegations."

now here's a presidential candidate liberals could really get behind and offer their full-on support:

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday stunned the country by unexpectedly filing to run in the May presidential election, contradicting a recommendation from the supreme leader to stay out of the race.

Ahmadinejad's decision could upend an election many believed would be won by moderate President Hassan Rouhani, who negotiated the nuclear deal with world powers. Though Rouhani has yet to formally register, many viewed him as a shoe-in following Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's recommendation in September for Ahmadinejad to stand down and conservatives' inability to coalesce around a single candidate.

Ahmadinejad's firebrand style could prove appealing for hard-liners seeking a tough-talking candidate who can stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump. His candidacy also could expose the fissures inside Iranian politics that linger since his contested 2009 re-election, which brought massive unrest.

false -

"It’s extremely easy for the government to get approvals for FISA warrants, as we have discovered in the debates over renewals of Section 702 of the PATRIOT Act. That’s actually the crux of the issue: did certain Trump campaign officials knowingly collude with Russian intelligence — or did the Obama administration spy on political rivals in order to impact the election outcome? Both? Neither?"

rrb said...

When it comes to Section 702, the law cited for PRISM, the FISA court’s role is more
limited. Even though Section 702 does not allow the intentional surveillance of U.S. persons, the government is not required to go before the court to obtain individual surveillance orders.

Instead, the court approves the “targeting” and “minimization” procedures described above to limit the amount of information about law-abiding Americans that is intercepted, retained, and disseminated. In deciding whether to approve the procedures, the court reviews whether they are consistent with the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution.

But it has no ongoing authority to determine if the government is complying with these procedures, and both the procedures and the court orders relating to them are classified.

Some information about Section 702 programs must be reported to Congress’s intelligence and judiciary committees, including significant legal opinions of the FISA court. However, these reports are generally classified and not shared.

https://www.brennancenter.org/sites/default/files/analysis/Government%20Surveillance%20Factsheet.pdf

bottom line - FISA warrants aren't that hard to obtain and once obtained oversight is virtually non-existent.

This represents a week of good decisions.

The bromance with Russia is over. He is now following the Kerry path, applying pressure on Putin to withdraw his support for the Assad regime, in the wake of his use of chemical weapons. Although the missile attacks were little more than a publicly stunt, they were symbolic of a change in policy.
The President seems to be ready to rearrange his White House staff. “I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,” Trump said. “I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn’t know Steve. I’m my own strategist and it wasn’t like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary.”
I've been a harsh critic of the President. But he's finally beginning to understand what the President has to do, instead of continuing to act like a candidate. I will continue to oppose almost any of his domestic policies. From science denial to free lunch programs and almost every thing.

His tax cuts, coupled with massive spending on infrastructure and military spending increase. This is Reaganomics on steroids. The CBO projects billions of debt. But for once, except that his staff looks like a Royal Kingdom.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Last August, a handwritten ledger surfaced in Ukraine with dollar amounts and dates next to the name of Paul Manafort, who was then Donald Trump's campaign chairman.

Ukrainian investigators called it evidence of off-the-books payments from a pro-Russian political party — and part of a larger pattern of corruption under the country's former president. Manafort, who worked for the party as an international political consultant, has publicly questioned the ledger's authenticity.

Now, financial records newly obtained by The Associated Press confirm that at least $1.2 million in payments listed in the ledger next to Manafort's name were actually received by his consulting firm in the United States. They include payments in 2007 and 2009, providing the first evidence that Manafort's firm received at least some money listed in the so-called Black Ledger.

The two payments came years before Manafort became involved in Trump's campaign, but for the first time bolster the credibility of the ledger. They also put the ledger in a new light, as federal prosecutors in the U.S. have been investigating Manafort's work in Eastern Europe as part of a larger anti-corruption probe.

But he only was on board for a short time. LOL

FISA is notorious for rubber stamping requests with little or no probable cause, and being a secret court operating behind the walls of "classified" and "national security" escapes oversight. It serves no legitimate purpose and needs to be abolished. Whoever has convinced you that for any FISA warrant there must be strong probable cause - or any probable cause - for a crime was blowing smoke.

As for Comey, he parsed his words carefully in saying that to his knowledge "the Trump tower" was not "wiretapped". A very general target and very specific action. Regardless of the headlines, that's not quite the same as Trump's allegations of surveillance. As I wrote here at the time, it doesn't deny interception of electronic communications (which isn't specifically "wiretapping" of phone calls) of Trump associates in the Trump Tower (rather than the entire building and anyone in it). Apparently I was right and Comey did mean something along those lines. He wasn't lying; he just failed to answer the whole question.

A repeat of what I think our goat fucker is worth. Getting caught in consecutive days playing with himself is a hint that he is nutz, expecting a different result is in Einsteins words the definition of an idiot. Thanx for playing, asswipe. Try planting a tomato in your ear, there is plenty of manure there to make it happy.
