Different worlds

Now that James Comey is out...
  • Fox News and the conservatives are calling for a special prosecutor for Hillary Clinton and the email server situation.
  • MSNBC and the liberals are calling for a special prosecutor for Trump collusion with the Russians.
Go figure. I would offer you garner a special prosecutor for Hillary Clinton Email Server, any Russian collusion, and the criminal activity of the Obama administration including the leaking of classified information about Michael Flynn....

Or you let it all go.

Why do you need a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary? She's a Democrat, and she lost. Trump won, and he's a Republican. Just have Sessions find some in-house staff to do it.

Indy Voter said...

Russia's a little different, since Trump did win and Sessions is compromised already. However, it's premature to have a special prosecutor, since there's not much evidence that Trump or his current staff were working for the Russians. And, Comey's firing notwithstanding, there's little evidence to date that Trump and his cabal are obstructing investigations into Russian interference in last year's campaign.

Indy Voter said...

It really will depend on who Trump nominates to replace Comey. He should find a respected prosecutor or cop with no real partisan leanings or known loyalty to Trump, which is what the last several presidents have done. But this is Trump, so I doubt he would appoint anyone who he suspects would stand up to him.

This is going to come back and bite Trump on the unmentionables. His praise of Comey was over the top.

The investigation into the Clinton emails as the main motivation is typical of his impulsive behavior. He won. He previously had declined to continue the investigation, now he's coming back This video is going to be all over the media.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB_k_WiqtOg

There will be an independent investigation, and I don't think it will be limited, it can also investigate the email, but the Russian intervention into our electoral system is far more important. The email is already looking as impulsive.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

McCain and other Republicans are calling for an independent investigation. He will not get the 100% Republican support. This is just another thing that if Republican congresscritters oppose the special investigation will be looking for new jobs in November.

Schumer is demanding that every Democratic senator at 9:30 AM. They will probably sit down and stop everything until an independent prosecutor is appointed.

Trump is already tweeting his opposition to a special investigation. This is dangerous, it could bring o a constitutional crisis.

Democrats are more confused than a transgender using a public restroom.

They loved Comey on July 5th, hated him October 28th, loved him again on october 30th & hated him again November 9th. Now they're outraged he's been fired.

The investigation continues with or without Comey & trump knows this.

Just think about this.

1: President Trump fires the man who leads the man who leads the investigation of the man who lead the investigation of his ties to the Russian government's alleged involvement in the Presidential election.

2: President Trump has a meeting with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

3: To this day, the President has declined to appoint an independent investigation into the allegations of the allegations on the alleged involvement of the Russian government.

4: President Trump says that Russian government involvement in the Presidential election.

5: A spokeswoman is denying Russian government involvement this morning.

Does anyone here support the President?

james clapper apparently does. at least tacitly. he has publicly and under oath repeatedly stated that he sees no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign and the russian government.

so i am left to wonder what exactly there is left to investigate.

right before the election you clowns were demanding comey's head. now suddenly he's above reproach and is portrayed as a victim, and the liberals idea of a savior and harbinger of truth, justice and the american way. the truth be told, granny the inebriated liar should hit her knees every day and thank god that she's not in federal prison right now. thanks to james comey and his ham-handed handling of a case that was a no brainer. there are those less powerful and politically connected who occupy federal prison cells as we speak for committing the exact same crimes as hillary.

this is one of those epic "hypocrisy is the bedrock of liberalism" moments.

what this is not is "nixonian" or "watergate-esque."

comey was a clod leading a law enforcement agency that, when it was not being incompetent it was being corrupt. and vice versa.

This incident occurred just one day after the devastating hearings by Senate intelligence committee.

Several Republican senators have called for an independent investigation.

The Senate democrats are going to occupy the Senate until an independent investigation is authorized.

As of this time, Speaker Ryan or majority leader McConnell have declined to comment.

The separation of powers is under attack, because the President is, at least this morning, is refusing to appoint an independent investigation into any of the allegations, including the e mail allegations.

Look folks. I don't deny that I can't stand President Trump. But I believe that this goes beyond partisanship, to the very foundation of the United States Constitution.

devastating?

if only we had learned of some new revelation we did not already know.

yates put he partisan hackishness on full display and got her clock cleaned by more than one republican senator.

clapper repeated - under oath - that he sees no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign and the russian government.

just so we're clear, an epic level of butthurt over hillary losing an election that was purported to be all but a foregone conclusion and a mere formality is not grounds for investigations, indictments, or trials.

there will be no merry fitzmas this time, sport.

to paraphrase your patron saint of asshattery:

"the election's over rog. trump WON."

Just another coincidence....

James Comey was fired from the FBI Tuesday shortly after the agency sent subpoenas to associates of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, whose ties to Russia are under investigation, according to a report.

CNN said the subpoenas were issued in recent to people who worked with Flynn on contracts after he was forced out as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014.

Yep....the fake media is what will bring this POS admin down......because congress is in the tank protecting the swamp......Idiots.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

No one is denying that the Democrats have changed their minds. But in this investigation, sure, you can find hypocrisy.

But that shouldn't be used to oppose the Presidential assault on the very foundations of our beloved country, Republican or Democratic.

But I do have to ask, do any of those who voted for Trump, are beginning to think that it may have been a mistake?

Commonsense said...

Really? Please tell me the constitutional issues when.

1. The FBI is an agency in the executive branch of the government and all department and agency heads in the executive branch serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States.

2. There is no provision in the Constitution for a 4th independent branch of government so the appointment of an "independent prosecutor" is extra-constitutional at the very least and to my mind, extra-legal.

Comey’s Firing Only Magnifies Russia Investigation

David Ignatius: “The Comey putsch heightens the mystery at the center of the Flynn case: Why Trump didn’t react sooner to warnings about Flynn’s involvement with Russia. Why didn’t Trump listen to President Barack Obama’s caution against hiring him? Why did Trump wait 18 days before removing his national security adviser after urgent advice that Flynn could be blackmailed?

“After Comey’s dismissal, critics are likely to examine more sharp-edged theories of the Flynn case and other Russia matters. One obvious possibility is that Trump didn’t take action earlier because he already knew about Flynn’s Dec. 29 discussion with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak about sanctions, and knew that Flynn had misrepresented the Kislyak call to Vice President-elect Mike Pence.”

The presidential assault was obama using the nsa and irs against his political opponents.

The fact remains, just a few weeks ago, Schumer said he had no confidence in comey. Now he's indignant that no one else does either.

There is no assault on the foundations of the country. Trump exercised his duly authorized powers under the constitution.

Lawmakers Baffled By Trump’s Firing of Comey

Mike Allen: “Republicans around town, and even some White House officials, tell me they’re baffled by President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey in the middle of his Russia investigation — and with the explanation that it’s because of his handling of Hillary’s email, which Trump had praised him for in the past.

“Even some White House officials believe that the likely result will be a special counsel, which Democrats are now pushing nearly in unison.”

Playbook: “Democrats and many Republicans are furious at Trump for firing the FBI director. Leave aside any lingering concerns with Jim Comey’s performance. The optics of firing Comey the way Trump did is almost too reckless to believe, according to the insiders we’ve spoken to. One senior Republican aide put it this way: It’s almost as if Trump was courting controversy with both parties by handling the situation the way he did.”

The AP reports that Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said last night that he told Trump in a phone conversation “You are making a big mistake.”

Has Trump Finally Gone Too Far?

Rick Klein: “In a presidency defined by the unprecedented, this is a big deal, bigger even than politics itself. These are republic-defining, Constitution-preserving stakes, courtesy of a president who has defied convention and tradition and pushed the boundaries of appropriate conduct so consistently that he has caused his motivations to be questioned even when circumstances don’t look anything like this.

“In this case, though, President Trump would have us believe that he decided to dismiss FBI Director James Comey organically and innocently, based on sincere outrage about the way he handled the investigation that may have handed him the presidency. Trump fired Comey in the middle of an active, sprawling investigation into his campaign’s contacts and connections with Russia, an investigation that the president himself declared to be a ‘total hoax’ and a ‘taxpayer funded charade’ less than 24 hours earlier. Trump and his attorney general, who was supposed to have recused himself from all matters regarding Russia and Hillary Clinton, of course celebrated Comey’s actions back when they benefited their political cause, and are now throwing Democrats’ words blasting Comey back at him.

“These are moments for truth and of truth for public servants, inside the Department of Justice, the Congress and even the White House, and regardless of political persuasion. Perhaps it all ends as it’s supposed to end, with a real investigation by an unimpeachable professional replacement at the FBI. Plus, Trump can’t fire Congress, at least not this easily. Trump distills almost everything to politics, the for-us-or-against-us combat in which he relishes. This now transcends that. At stake is the credibility of the federal government, period, end of story. The president doesn’t get to write the next chapter by himself.”

I have one simple question.

Does anyone oppose the investigation into both the Clinton email allegations, and the Russian government involvement in our election??.

THIS IS ONE MENTALLY ILL PREISDENT

Trump Was Enraged by Russia Investigation

President Donald Trump “weighed firing his FBI director for more than a week. When he finally pulled the trigger Tuesday afternoon, he didn’t call James Comey. He sent his longtime private security guard to deliver the termination letter in a manila folder to FBI headquarters,” Politico reports.

“He had grown enraged by the Russia investigation, two advisers said, frustrated by his inability to control the mushrooming narrative around Russia. He repeatedly asked aides why the Russia investigation wouldn’t disappear and demanded they speak out for him. He would sometimes scream at television clips about the probe, one adviser said.”

Echoes of Watergate

New York Times: “Not since Watergate has a president dismissed the person leading an investigation bearing on him, and Mr. Trump’s decision late Tuesday afternoon drew instant comparisons to the ‘Saturday Night Massacre’ in October 1973, when President Richard M. Nixon ordered the firing of Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor looking into the so-called third-rate burglary that would eventually bring Nixon down.

“The decision stunned members of both parties, who saw it as a brazen act sure to inflame an already politically explosive investigation.

“Trump may have assumed that Democrats so loathed Mr. Comey because of his actions last year in the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server that they would support or at least acquiesce to the dismissal. But if so, he miscalculated.”

Axios lists the people comparing Trump to Nixon.

nope. go for it.

odds of the russian thingy amounting to something approaches zero.

and there's not much left to investigate regarding granny. we know with 100% certainty that she broke the law.

the issue was and still is how comey let her off the hook because of "intent", when the law clearly states that intent is not relevant. gross negligence is punishable.

so yeah, let's have parallel investigations. let them start today.

Grand jury subpoenas issued in FBI Russia probe:

Federal prosecutors have issued grand jury subpoenas as part of the ongoing probe of Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election, according to a new report.

The subpoenas to associates of former national security adviser Michael Flynn are seeking business records, CNN said Tuesday.

CNN said it confirmed that the he US Attorney's Office in Alexandria, Va. issued the subpoenas in recent weeks with people familiar with the matter.
The subpoenas are a significant escalation of the FBI's broader investigation into possible ties between Russia and President Trump's 2016 campaign.

bingo.

Commonsense said...

Which brings up the point of the "timing" of Comey's firing.

The Russian collusion investigation has devolved to little more than a never ending witch hunt.

There is absolutely no evidence of collusion.

If there was, we would have known by now since Obama operatives would have leaked it to the Washington Post.

However, unlike normal investigations this one won't be closed just because they can't find any evidence of a crime. It will continue forever or at least until the end of the Trump administration.

In other words, there would be no good time to fire Comey. The Democrat would have still accuse Trump of trying to quash this politically motivated investigation.
