Seriously, but not literally...

I have taken the stance that most criticism of the President comes from those who take him literally, but not seriously. I have also taken the stance that in order to truly understand the President that you must take him seriously, but not literally. Sometimes this is a difficult chore.

In my humble opinion, there were four major reasons to vote for Donald Trump in the 2016 election:
  • Reverse the liberalization of our court system
  • Reverse the blatant championing of supposed virtues of illegal immigration
  • Reverse the priority of placing untested environmental regulations over the economy
  • Reverse the feckless gutless strategies of international diplomacy

When thought of in those generic terms, it's very difficult to argue that the President is not living up to expectations.
  • Merrick Garland is not sitting on the U.S.S.C. while Neil Gorsuch is. Almost assuredly the President will have at least one more pick to the U.S.S.C. Moreover, there are nearly 200 Federal Justice vacancies, and so far Trump has been nominating very conservative justices who value the constitution and the rule of law. At the very least, those 200 vacancies will not be filled with more liberals.
  • Meanwhile, illegal immigration has trickled down to about a quarter or a third of where it was. Deportation is up and there are even reports of people self deporting in the wake of the Trump Presidency. The crackdown on sanctuary cities has at the very least put doubt in the minds of illegals that they can count on being protected.
  • Almost everyday it seems like the President signs another executive order that does nothing but undo some environmental regulation that was signed into existence by the former President. Couple that with a more serious look at economic policy, and I believe we are well on our way.
  • The bombing of Syria and ISIS in the first 100 days was a wonderful precedent to set. While may may question the overall tangible military advantage of all of this, the underlying psychology of taking these bold steps is what truly matters. The President has to be taken seriously.

But... in a literal sense there appears to be a big disappointment among Trump fans regarding the building of the wall. To a large degree I tend to see why. The building of the wall was a signature campaign promise, and for the congressional GOP majority to simply toss it aside to avoid conflict seems to lack a certain courage of conviction.

That being said, according to most experts the money used to build a wall could be much better spent in other areas, if the main goal is actually to keep non-citizens from crossing the border and becoming illegal immigrants. The wall, for all practical purposes is more symbolic than a real tangible solution to the problem. The reality is that the President asked for one billion dollars to put start working on a new wall. What he received was an additional 1.5 billion dollars to shore up border security in other areas. In order to avoid the construction of a wall, the Democrats conceded "more money" that ultimately would probably do more to actually shore up security and work to lower the illegal border crossings.

Yes...  this allows the Democrats to claim some form of victory in a literal sense. From a practical serious sense, if 1.5 billion in generic security funds works better towards the long term solution of closing our southern border, then who really got the victory?

Opposition of Key Republican Deals Blow to Health Bill
By THOMAS KAPLAN and ROBERT PEAR 42 minutes ago
Representative Fred Upton of Michigan said he opposed the bill because it “torpedoes” protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
The loss of the influential Republican came as a huge blow, just as House Speaker Paul D. Ryan was insisting that the law would protect the sick.

Seems trumpie again either lied yesterday about coverage or didn't know what the fuck he was talking about. SHOCKING!!!!

“Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not.”

“I believe this caucus will put us on the right path and we’ll give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign with pride and strength.”

"We have martial law. What that means – and my colleagues know what it means – is that you can put a bill on in just minutes.”

“I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together.”

Dems and media act like this is dome great defeat for trump. But think about it. This is a half year budget. Trump wants to do taxes and health care. He doesn't want to spend all summer fighting over a partial year budget.

“We continue to evaluate our footprint with a view towards significantly reducing our exposure to individual commercial products in 2018,” Aetna Chief Financial Officer Shawn Guertin said during a conference call.

In an interview, Guertin explained that the company is making decisions about the three remaining states where it sells these plans based on the current situation.

Aetna, which has 255,000 customers in individual plans that comply with Obamacare, said customer medical costs were high and recorded a $110 million premium deficiency reserve in the first quarter for future losses.

It's only collapsing because the Federal Government isn't spending enough to compensate insurance companies for their losses.
