Trumping the Paris deal...

I guess Obama probably regrets not going to the Senate and convincing them to ratify the Paris Agreement. Had he done so, then it wouldn't be possible for the next President to simply "undo" what Obama and his team had worked rather hard to get done.

The lack of Senate ratification, in and of itself, is reason enough for me to support our President deciding to "trump" the previous agreement. Not that I believe the agreement was otherwise in our best interests (it wasn't). But as a matter or principle, future Presidents should now see the folly of trying to avoid Senate ratification when it comes to signing international agreements.

After the conscientious meeting with the NATO allies, Angela Merkel said that after the meeting, that NATO could no longer be depended of the United States, to act as part of the post World War II European and American military alliance. This alliance brought the end of the Cold War without any major military operations. The political and financial alliance brought an end to the Soviet Union Empire. President Trump brought out his campaign issue that declared the NATO nations were not carrying enough of the financial and military costs. He also refused to stand by the Paris accords that were designed to help decrease man made climate change.

Given the evidence by his repeatedly historically ignorance, that was quite evident, he may have signaled a a sea change in American foreign policy. He also seemed to withdraw our support for Article 5 of the NATO agreement. A quick summary is an attack on one nations in NATO is an attack on all the other nations and guarantees military actions as one nation. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said on Saturday that "of course" President Donald Trump backed NATO's mutual defense doctrine, despite not making an explicit reference to it during a visit to Brussels this week. But given his repeated over and over again retraction of policy statements, that draw no criticism from the right, who is truly going to believe McMaster? Mr. Trump did not respond himself. He was too busy writing increasingly incoherent tweets since he arrived back in the White House.

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
I look forward to reading the @CommerceGov 232 analysis of steel and aluminum- to be released in June. Will take major action if necessary.

As a side note, the Carrier 800 jobs Trump touted as a result of his election, has 600 lay offs are being issued.
He issued a statement saying that his foreign travel was a knock out. Well, if you think shoving a member of the NATO alliance out of his way, is 'knock out " you probably agree. But outside the alt-right world, the reviews were mixed at best.

As usual, using twitter of course, condemned the New York Times and the Washington Post as Fake News.

How is it bad???

By artificially raising our cost of energy (read higher heating, gas, and electric bills) while giving other countries a pass.

And giving an unelected international bureaucracy the power to levy energy taxes.

This deal is bad on so many levels.

Kushner's meeting with Kislyak was not initially disclosed when Trump's son-in-law sought a security clearance. Media reports revealed the meeting, along with another private session Kushner had with a representative of a Russian bank. Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, is now a senior White House adviser with wide-ranging foreign policy and domestic duties.

"If you're going to create a back channel that relies solely on the Russian communications and apparatus, that's a really serious issue," said Mark Lowenthal, a former assistant director at the CIA. "That's extremely dangerous."

The New York Times, quoted here and the Washington Post article here say basically the same thing.

We are withdrawing for the most part, as the primary force in NATO, to be replaced by France and Germany. Two democracies, that Mr Trump seems to despise, are left to their own, repudiating over 60 years of military and economic cooperation.

BERLIN — Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, Europe’s most influential leader, has concluded, after three days of trans-Atlantic meetings, that the United States of President Trump is not the reliable partner her country and the Continent have automatically depended on in the past.
Clearly disappointed with Mr. Trump’s positions on NATO, Russia, climate change and trade, Ms. Merkel said in Munich on Sunday that traditional alliances were no longer as steadfast as they once were and that Europe should pay more attention to its own interests “and really take our fate into our own hands.”

“The times in which we could rely fully on others — they are somewhat over,” Ms. Merkel added, speaking on the campaign trail after a contentious NATO summit meeting in Brussels and a Group of 7 meeting in Italy. “This is what I experienced in the last few days.”
Ms. Merkel’s strong comments were a potentially seismic shift in trans-Atlantic relations. With the United States less willing to intervene overseas, Germany is becoming an increasingly dominant power in a partnership with France.

Most of the voters that supported Donald Trump, wanted to change the way things were done in D.C. Most of them may have voted for him, because Hillary Clinton was a successful target of the anger against D. C. I don't think that a majority of the regulars to this blog, may not have voted for Donald Trump, if they knew how he was going to effect a sea change in American foreign policy. Instead of working with our 60 year old partners in NATO, he seems to be much more interested in dealing with the Russians on a non contentious partner in many endeavors. The same thing is his friendship of anti-democracy dictatorships, as in Turkey, Egypt, Venezuela and the religious dictatorships like Saudi Arabia.

This is my opinion on why so many 'unnamed sources' are willing to expose the connections between the Trump administration and let's be honest, his Russian allies. The other story on Jared Kushner that had been dominating the news cycle for several days, and it' snot going away, is further evidence that the President wants to repudiate the anti-Russian alliances that ended the cold war and lead to the collapse of the Russian empire a I said above.

Mr Trump has also indicated that he's seriously considering tariffs on imported goods, mostly from Mexico, again a democracy, for he most part, and others. I for one don' t think that the policies he's following are going to behelpful to economic growth in the United States because we are part of a world economy, and no where near as dominant as we were. If we get into a trade war, there are no winners. and what he is ignorantly not aware of, are the dangers to our economy. The last two major economic collapses have occurred under Republican Presidents. It may turn into the same "knock out" as we had under Calvin Coolidge.

Does that make you feel better that Germany tossed trump under the bus?????

EXCLUSIVE: Trump Set To Roll Back Obama’s Cuba Policies

President Donald Trump is set to announce a rollback of former President Barack Obama’s policies toward Cuba, The Daily Caller has learned.

Two sources told TheDC that the development is due to the behind-the-scenes efforts of Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and Republican Florida Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart.

This information coming from an anti-embargo group was confirmed Sunday by John Kavulich of the nonpartisan U.S. – Cuba Trade and Economic Council. “The Trump Administration has been ‘ready’ since February 2017 to announce changes, but issues unrelated to Cuba have intervened,” Kavulich said.

My Uncle.

When Lynn Bernard Amick was born on October 17, 1910, in Springview, Nebraska, his father, Charles, was 29 and his mother, Jennie, was 23. He married Blanche Evelyn Petersen on January 21, 1939, in Spencer, Iowa. They had one child during their marriage. He died as a young father on November 16, 1944, in Vosges, France, at the age of 34, and was buried in Épinal, Vosges, France.

My father Ivan (Ike)Amick was his younger brother and served in the US Navy, He never saw combat.

My Uncle Carroll, the younger brother was in the US Navy served on the US Saratoga. It got hit multiple times by Kamakazi. The ship struggled to get to the west coast. My Uncle would rarely talk about it. But he said that they were finding bodies for six weeks. They buried them at sea.

My aunt Rita, just turned 95. She's completely coherent. She has mobility issues. Two years ago at the family reunion, she asked me to sit next to her, because I remind her of my dad. I look a lot like him and have the same voice. He died in 1994 at 80.
