Behind the scenes...

Happened to be walking by the Court House as the Yanez verdict was being announced. While this may not be as big as the Cosby verdict, it was a big deal here in Minnesota. He was found not-guilty as cops generally are in these situations.

To refresh your memory,  Jeronimo Yanez is a St Paul police officer who shot Philando Castile in the front seat of his car, as Castile had supposedly reached for his pistol. Castile had a permit to carry a firearm.  What made this case unique was that his girlfriend used her cell phone to create a video of him bleeding to death. That video went viral. You probably remember it.

So here was the series of events. There was literally more press people than anyone else. The spokesperson came out to speak, but was stopped by a couple of people who apparently wanted her to wait.

They then gathered from the crowd a group of people to stand behind her, obviously mostly friends and family, but it also appeared that some others were whisked into the background for effect. By some others, I mean those who were gathered around who happened to be a particular race.

Then you have the camera panning in, as a means to make it appear that there is a large crowd surrounding the spokesperson.

I was able to find this by going "back" on the "live feed" from the Star and Tribune. But these still shots do a decent job in reflecting what I witnessed.

Now this is no way should suggest that I mean to diminish what the family of Castile is going through. I have no idea if the verdict was just or wrong. I just thought it was odd to watch how the scene was manipulated to make it look like there was some large public outrage going on... when in fact most people were like me.  Random people walking by stopping to ask someone with a camera what was going on.

That video was one of the most disturbing things that I have ever seen. It ranks up there with the officer shooting the fleeing man several times in the back and the nice, respectful young black man in the service station who was accosted because he was not wearing a safety belt and shot several times when, as the officer asked him tok, he reached to get id.

I only wish the girl friend had started videoing earlier so we could have seen the actual shooting. The outcome might not be "not guilty."

caliphate4vr said...

Is Jeronimo Yanez a white hispanic?

James, saddened, said...

The video shows the situation escalated quickly, with Yanez shooting Castile just seconds after Castile volunteered, "Sir, I have to tell you, I do have a firearm on me." Five of the officer's seven shots struck Castile.

Witnesses testified that the gun was in a pocket of Castile's shorts when paramedics removed him from his vehicle.

Prosecutors called several witnesses to try to show that Yanez never saw the gun and acted recklessly and unreasonably. But defense attorneys called their own witnesses to back up Yanez's claim that he saw Castile pulling the gun and that Yanez was right to shoot.

After shooting Castile, Yanez is heard on the squad-car video telling a supervisor that he didn't know where Castile's gun was, then that he told Castile to get his hand off it. Yanez testified, "What I meant by that was I didn't know where the gun was up until I saw it in his right thigh area."

He said he clearly saw a gun and that Castile ignored his commands to stop pulling it out of his pocket. His voice choked with emotion as he talked of being "scared to death" and thinking of his wife and baby daughter in the split-second before he fired.

Prosecutors argued that Yanez could have taken lesser steps, such as asking to see Castile's hands or asking where the gun was. After Castile told the officer he had the gun, Yanez told Castile, "OK, don't reach for it then," and, "Don't pull it out."

On the squad-car video, Castile can be heard saying, "I'm not pulling it out," as Yanez opened fire. Prosecutors said Castile's last words were, "I wasn't reaching for it."

Reynolds testified that she began recording the shooting's aftermath because she feared for her life and wanted to make sure the truth was known. Defense attorneys pointed to inconsistencies in several of her statements.

Trump supporters: little children they are not

"The American people are like little children. We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths, teach them right from wrong. Tell them what to think and how to feel, and what to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams, crafting their worst fears. Lucky for them they have me." "House of Cards", Frank Underwood

American politics is very ugly at the moment, uglier than usual. It seems increasingly obvious that the American version of House of Cards is less fictional, more true to life than previously thought. In fact, the Netflix series seems almost benign by current standards, except for the above quote. It seems to convey exactly how the American left views the American people, at least those who voted for Donald Trump. In the minds of our leftists, those people are beneath contempt. Their votes were cast in ignorance. They do not deserve to be heard; they do not count. They are all little children who need to be told what to think.

But those Trump supporters are not cooperating. It turns out they do think for themselves. They were sick to death of how much the last eight years changed this country. Obama promised to "fundamentally transform America" and he did. He eviscerated our military, took race relations back to the days before the Civil Rights Movement, launched a war on our law enforcement men and women, doubled our national debt, weaponized the IRS, the FBI and the EPA. He let guns flow into Mexico in order to blame gun deaths on America's Second Amendment; he cared not a bit for the death of American Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry or all the Mexican lives lost to the drug cartels who bought those guns. For Obama, an Alinskyite Marxist, the ends always justify the means.

Despite the warnings against it from every military expert consulted, Obama created ISIS by vacating the Middle East, removing all peace-keeping forces. It is almost as if he wanted the genocide of Christians that resulted throughout the region; every scholar of the Middle East and Islam told him what would happen and it did. The list of Obama's crimes against the country is long and depressing. And yet the left still thought Hillary was going to win the election in a landslide! Her loss should have been a wake-up call to the left, to their self-imposed insulation from reality. But instead they have doubled-down on their conviction that they are right and everyone and anyone who disagrees with them is not only wrong but evil, deserving of rhetorical death if not actual death.

So intent on their crusade to take Trump down, they completely miss the rising tide of disgust much of the population feels for them."

A majority of Americans think that President Trump has interfered with the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, according to a new poll conducted by the Associated Press and NORC, a research organization at the University of Chicago.

The results show that of those polled, six in 10 think that the president "has tried to obstruct the investigation into whether or not his campaign had ties to Russia" and 68 percent are concerned to some degree that Mr. Trump or his campaign "had inappropriate contact with members of the Russian government."

However, concern varies along party lines. Of those polled who are worried that Mr. Trump has attempted to impede the Russia investigation, the majority identify as Democrats or Independents-- only a quarter of Republicans agree.

President Trump calls Comey a "leaker"
The poll, which was released Thursday, comes in light of reports that the special counsel is gathering information on whether Mr. Trump or anyone in his administration tried to end the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Most Americans say they think President Donald Trump has little to no respect for the country's democratic traditions, according to a new poll that underscores the difficulty Trump faces in uniting a country deeply divided about his leadership.

The new survey, conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found more than 6 in 10 Americans disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, and nearly half strongly disapprove. The poll was conducted before a shooting spree at a Washington-era baseball field on Wednesday left a congressman wounded and renewed calls for more civil political discourse.

"We may have our differences, but we do well in times like these to remember that everyone who serves in our nation's capital is here because, above all, they love our country," Trump said Wednesday, responding to the shooting.

Donald Trump's Attorney Marc Kasowitz Hit With Ethics Complaints
Mary Papenfuss,HuffPost 8 hours ago

Complaints have been lodged with the District of Columbia and New York City Bar Associations against President Donald Trump’s personal defense attorney Marc Kasowitz, calling for an investigation to determine if he has breached rules of professional conduct.

Separate complaints were filed over the week against Kasowitz by the Campaign for Accountability, a nonprofit government watchdog organization, and by attorney Neil Goldfarb, a former board member of the American Civil Liberties Union. They both allege that Kasowitz may have inappropriately counseled other White House staffers while representing the president, raising conflict-of-interest concerns.

In addition, the CAF complaint alleges that Kasowitz is not currently authorized to practice law in Washington, D.C.

Americans Learning to Live with Treason

Pop the champagne corks, set off the fireworks, former FBI Director, James Comey nixed the "Russian collusion." In his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey cleared President Trump of all charges – no collusion, no conspiracy, no investigation, no there there.

Yay! It's over. The Russian conspiracy nonsense is finally debunked. Whew!

Does anyone else see the insanity here – that we celebrate when the president is cleared of phony charges, that we breathe a sigh of relief when the fired FBI director fails to establish an obstruction of justice charge?

Does anyone wonder why we anxiously watch each inane congressional hearing to see if the left gets the goods to pull off its coup, why we wake up each morning terrified that the insurgents have hit their mark, found something, anything they can use to depose a duly elected president?

We are watching, in real-time, a palace revolution, an overt effort to remove the president of the United States. Just as James Comey proudly admitted he leaked privileged communication to the press, so these insurgents brazenly brag that they want to harm the president, to impeach him, to overthrow our government. The American people seem shockingly oblivious to the looming danger.

The Comey What If

Byron York: “A key lesson emerged from the testimony of Attorney General Jeff Sessions before the Senate Intelligence Committee this week: Without the president’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, the Trump-Russia investigation would be on a downward trajectory. The collusion charge, originally the heart of the investigation, would be fading for lack of evidence. Investigators would be going down side roads involving Flynn and Manafort in which the public would have little interest.

“But not after Comey. At the Sessions hearing, Democrats had nothing new on collusion. They barely seemed interested. Instead, they focused to a great extent on trying to get Sessions to reveal what the president did or did not say in private discussions — about Comey. On the Democratic side of the hearing — and much of the Republican side, as well — the issue was Comey, Comey, Comey. In the end, it could be that the president’s impatience to get rid of Comey in order to shorten an investigation that he believed to be going nowhere resulted in a new investigation that could last the rest of Trump’s time in office.”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

President Trump calls reports of obstruction of justice investigation a 'witch hunt'

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, today praised President Trump as “healer in chief” of the nation in the wake of Wednesday’s gun attack on a GOP congressional baseball practice.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., and five others were injured Wednesday as Republicans practiced at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, for an annual congressional charity game that went on as scheduled Thursday night.

“There was a feeling of unity and healing,” Conway said of Thursday’s baseball game in an interview on “Fox and Friends."

That's the defense attorney talking. Both Castile and his girlfriend were under the influence of controlled substance and audio of the stop makes it fairly certain that Castile attempted to pull out his gun.

First, when you are driving under the influence with a kid in the car, I take big issue with that. Secondly, according to the law your permit to carry is voided when you are under the influence. It becomes as illegal to carry as it would be if he didn't have a permit.

As Jeff Spicoli said in FTRH - People on ludes should not drive. Well people high on pot should not have a kid and a gun in the car at the same time.
