CNN upset that the President is empowering military to make military decisions?

President Donald Trump has overseen a steady transfer of power from the White House to the Pentagon, handing off several warfighting authorities that previously rested in his hands -- and those of past presidents of both parties -- to the Pentagon and the commanders overseeing the US' military campaigns.
The moves are intended to empower the military at a tactical level, bolstering the US' intensifying fight against ISIS and al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups to praise from several current and former military officials. But those efforts have also raised concerns about whether Trump expects to face the same level of accountability for military decisions he has kicked down to the Pentagon and have drawn attention to the inherent risks of downsizing the White House's role in overseeing the US' escalating military campaign against ISIS and al-Qaeda and its offshoots.
Going forward, the White House will have a diminished role in sounding off on military decisions that could have geopolitical implications as well as political ramifications back home in the US. Trump will be one step removed from more of the military's airstrikes in Yemen and Somalia, decisions that could lead to more civilian casualties and local uproar in countries where the US is not formally deployed. Military commanders have stressed there has been no change to their tolerance for civilian casualties.
So rather than have a former real estate mogul or former community organizer making decisions about troop levels and military tactics, we have four star generals making such decisions... and this somehow bothers CNN?

What appears to be the case, if you read between the lines, is that having the experts in these fields making decisions creates less of an opportunity for the press to question the President and attack him for military actions... which of course has been a long term staple for the liberal media with Republican Presidents.

The other explanation is that CNN is actually arguing that we would be better off placing more trust in the military decisions of President Trump than the military decisions of four star Generals and other military experts. Does that sound plausible to anyone?

Oh yes they're in a tizzy. Nothing new for CNN.

The damnedest thing I've ever seen.

They're so blinded by Trump hatred they can't figure out what their narrative should be.

Loretta said...

Exactly CS.

Their only goal is to unseat a duly elected sitting President.

What do the Republicans come back with?

"Fake news"....call it what it is, it's downright lies and propaganda.

Commonsense said...

Well, when the strategy to unseat a legitimately elected president backfires on you and makes you a laughing stock....

It may be time to change strategies.

Hi Opie, wondering how long you can go without winning any kind of Election so far it has been Since Nov 8th, 2017.

I know you don't really care about winning, just #Resisting.

The failure is ongoing, the melt down started at about 3 am central time Nov. 9th, 2016.

The continued narrative of "this special election is when the Real voters get to turn on President Trump" well we know how well that has gone.

I hope Nanci Polosey and Hillary and Warren and those two other girls Chinadoll Schumer and Bernie Sanders stay as the face and voice of #Resistthevoteofthepeople.

Bernie Sanders, what a nice guy, typical liberal now he is under investigation for an "Illegal Loan", remember what he hate, money and trump, Yet, he loves his money.

U.S. retired general and Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, has said the policy of the American military now in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq is moving from one of attrition to one of annihilation.

The Leftist media doesn’t like this so much.

The Washington Post in particular yesterday was upset that Mattis is annihilating the terrorists so effectively. “A military policy run solely by the Pentagon creates confusion,” writes the Post.

One reason the Left is upset is that having a warrior in charge of fighting a war shows how incompetent and purposefully feckless the Obama administration was.

TODAY, 4:55 pm EDT
Opposition to GOP Health Care Bill Grows

“Senate Republican leaders scrambled Sunday to rally support for their health care bill even as opposition continued to build outside Congress and two Republican senators questioned whether the bill would be approved this week,” the New York Times reports.

“Senate Republican leaders were trying to lock down Republican votes by funneling money to red states, engineering a special deal for Alaska and arguing that they could insure more people at a lower cost than the House, which passed a repeal bill last month. But the forces arrayed against the Republican push to dismantle President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement are formidable.”

Washington Post: “At least five Republicans have already come out against their party’s bill — which can only afford to lose two votes — and over the weekend more began expressing serious reservations and skepticism about the proposal, saying they would like more time to debate and tweak the plan.”

Mike Allen: “At least 10 Republican senators have expressed reservations, and the White House and GOP leaders can only lose two. That’s why our handicappers have suddenly gone from ‘more likely than not’ to ‘coin flip.'”

Gosh, who would have thought health care could be so complicated?

TAIL TUCKED BETWEEN LEGS,
Russian Ambassador Is Heading Home

“Ending one the most turbulent tenures of a Washington-based ambassador in recent memory, the Kremlin has decided to recall its ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak,” three individuals familiar with the decision tell BuzzFeed News.

“The decision to bring Kislyak back to Russia rather than appoint him to a senior position at the United Nations in New York, as several outlets previously reported, comes amid investigations by the FBI and Congress into the 66-year-old diplomat’s contacts with President Donald Trump’s top aides during the 2016 presidential campaign.”

Said one diplomat: “He could use some time away.”

What's so amusing James?

One of the uncharming traits you have is your undisguised joy in the suffering of others.

This unchristian behaviour is one of the many reasons I really have no use for you.

Sure thing.

"I know more about how to defeat ISIS than the generals" Donald J Trump, candidate for the Presidency.

Members of his own party, are more and more distancing themselves from the President.

TrumpCare is DOA.

Considering the job of an ambassador is to meet with people in the country they are assigned to...

and idiot liberals believe that every time this guy does his job and meets with someone... that it must be some sort of collusion about hacking that took place over two years ago.

I think that the scorn that is being shown here against this ambassador is remarkably naive and paranoid.

Curious, James said...

“The decision to bring Kislyak back to Russia rather than appoint him to a senior position at the United Nations in New York...."

are the Russians reacting naively?

The Russians, James... are "reacting" to our treatment of Kislyak.

Do you "really" not understand that... or are you just feinting stupid?

Damn right they're reacting to that.

James -

There is exactly zero percent that even if there "was" collusion between the Trump team and Russian hackers (and there is zero evidence that there is)... that they would actually use the Russian Ambassador as the go between.

The idea is idiotic. The Russian Ambassador to the U.S. is the one person in the entire Russian country that they know is continuously monitored by US Intelligence.
