Land of the fruits, nuts, and flakes...

The California Senate voted Thursday to advance a single-payer health care plan that would replace insurance companies with government-funded health care for everyone in the state.
The move came even as proponents acknowledged they don’t know how to pay its huge $400 billion price tag. But supporters say the measure means big savings for families. (link)

Btw... to put this price tag in perspective, California adding a single payer health care plan would triple their yearly budget. Who cares if they cannot pay for it?

Apparently not California Democrats.

To think that these clowns want to secede from the United States and start their own country? That sounds like a wonderful idea to me. The only thing that could make it better is if they could take the state of New York along with them...

In a study commissioned by the nursing union, researchers at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst suggested a 2.3 percent sales tax and a 2.3 percent gross receipts tax, which would apply to all corporate revenue.

[...]

But the study said improving efficiency and negotiating lower prices for pharmaceutical drugs could reduce the overall cost $75 billion. Existing state and federal health care funding could provide $225 billion, according to the study.
That would leave $106 billion in required funding that California would have to raise with the new taxes.

Of course... but when that doesn't happen, Mexifornia will not be in compliance with their balance budget laws. Not to mention that they would need to almost double revenues just to cover the $106 billion.

WASHINGTON — Obama administration officials knew they were on shaky ground in spending billions of dollars on health insurance subsidies without clear authority. But they did not think a long-shot court challenge by House Republicans was cause for deep concern.

For one thing, they would be out of office by the time a final ruling in the case, filed in 2014, was handed down. They also believed that a preliminary finding against the administration would ultimately be tossed out. Finally, they figured that President Hillary Clinton could take care of the problem, if necessary.

Well, they are out of office, Mrs. Clinton is not president and the uncertain status of the cost-sharing payments now looms as the biggest threat to the stability of the insurance exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act. A dubious decision made by the previous White House has handed the current administration a powerful weapon to wield against the health care legislation that it despises.

“The administration should not have found an appropriation where none existed,” said Nicholas Bagley, a University of Michigan law professor who has studied and written about the issue. “The Obama administration argument that the Affordable Care Act included an appropriation for the cost-sharing payments never held water.”
