Newspapers lie, retract, and embarrass themselves...
Democrat's confidence in them grows!

The most recent Gallup poll regarding confidence in the major institutions came out this week. Other than a complete reversal of who trusted the Presidency, and a large uptick in trust of the USSC from Republicans, the movement was fairly nondescript.

But what I found very interesting was huge increase from Democrats in terms of their trust in newspapers. Funny, considering Newspapers have never gotten less right and been more wrong. Funny considering Newspapers have never been less objective and more partisan.

Only goes to show that Democrats don't really care how accurate their news is, they only really care if the news tells them what they want to hear. Fake news about Donald Trump and Russia is better than no news about Donald Trump and Russia.

n a two-part tweet, the president said he “heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore).” Then went on to hit Brzezinski: “how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came … to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!”

Trump’s tweets follow a similar one earlier on Thursday morning from White House social media director Dan Scavino Jr., who tweeted from his personal account: “#DumbAsARockMika and lover #JealousJoe are lost, confused & saddened since @POTUS @realDonaldTrump stopped returning their calls! Unhinged.”

You attack the Press after a president acts like a God damn child not your present their president acts like a child or worse you think that is a representative of the United president of this country should say should the president say things like that seriously. Why don't you comment on that and call it wrong you don't do that it's wrong and you know that but you won't do it you have lost it Scott you're gone you lost it it's gone cold hard truth is gone it's in hell

He comes up with his stupid stuff almost on like right out of Donald Trump's mouth and doesn't even talk for himself it's like he's a mouthpiece for Trump he's lost it. I'm speaking this out loud because it's easier to do it then type it out and you wouldn't believe I'm talking this is nuts the attack Mika and her looks. He's got a history of doing that and you don't care she's a very attractive woman. She's smarter than you are obviously. And so is Joe Scarborough and the show was not lowly rated it is doing very well. The comment by the president was a child and angry child and you know that you should know better than that would you close your mind off to that because you want to protect the present for some damn reason to makes no sense he was wrong that is not. The president of the United States should not tweet insults like that should not do it.. Can you imagine how that looks around the world really?

And it said you stand by Scott and he's wrong. I'm not perfect but I'm not stupid. Paul you're better than that my you are to you get it used to be a little better that. But you bought into this Donald Trump stuff too and geez I don't get it nice simply don't get it. He's unprepared to be the president it's obvious he doesn't know the how to do the job he's dividing the country deeper than it's ever been in my lifetime and he's got every almost every other country in the world friend to death of us what he might do in one minute with that damn red button.. He's threatening to use nuclear. He is threatening to use military methods against North Korea. That could easily lead to the next major conflict that was a total disaster for both sides and it's still not over it there is no peace treaty there's no no. And he's threatening to do that too. He stated during the campaign you should not fart forecast what he might do. He's doing this all the time saying what he might do. He's giving the other side a chance to get ready for it. And you don't care all you should you should care he is harming our present our country he is harming our country. He's in danger in this country and you know I think you know it in your heart if you don't you've lost it not me

I really don't understand 90% of what you type anymore. It's all just bumbled up nonsense to the point where I can't even finish reading most of it. (I am sure I am not alone).

Unfortunately the 10% that I do understand is your direct personal attacks on me... that have pretty much no bearing in reality.

The problem for you (and many others) is that the terms of the deal have changed. Like it or not, Trump is communicating "directly" to his supporters. I am quite sure that our founding fathers would have approved of such a method of communication... even if they may have taken issues with some of what he writes.

It would be one thing if the President could send his press secretary up to the daily briefing and rely on the media to accurately report on what is being said. But that's simply not the case anymore.

The first amendment allows the Press to be the Press.
The first amendment allows the President to communicate directly.

The first amendment does not make any determinations that the President must communicate his message through the Press. The press seems to believe that they (and they alone) are allowed to speak on the President's behalf and tell the public what he says (and what it means).

Not the case, Roger...

As far as what he says about Morning Joe or CNN... I guess if the shoe fits, then they should all wear it.

Did you watch the CNN tape with the producer talking about how Russia and collusion was all about ratings? That there isn't any truth to half of what they say, and that money rules over media integrity?

Just because you are stupid enough to fall for CNN's ratings game... don't take it out on me.

Big Majority of Americans Feel ‘Alarmed’ or ‘Uneasy’

A new USA Today/Suffolk University poll finds that 42% of of those surveyed when asked how they felt when they think about how things are going in Washington today said there were “alarmed.” Another 33% feel “uneasy.” Just 11% choose the positive “excited.”

“The air of angst is bipartisan. Nine of 10 Democrats feel uneasy or alarmed; so do a majority of Republicans.”

Whatever slant or retractions that the papers have made, they are more factual than what's coming out of the White House. Many Republicans indulge themselves by suspending credulity when Trump gives them an excuse, but obviously Democrats don't have that option with him. So of course Democrats are going to have a higher opinion of the newspapers. It's not they who have gone weird - it's their opposite numbers.

james's dad said...

Incoming elected administrations, especially the Obama transition team of 2008 in the case of Russia and Iran, seek contacts with foreign diplomats before formally entering office.

Most presidential campaigns are staffed by at least a few free-lancing opportunists who see their candidate as a nexus for profiteering. There is no need for a reminder of the lucrative careers of Bill Clinton from 2009-2012, or of Hillary Clinton’s brother, or of the nature of some of John Podesta’s investments. And foreign governments, our own included as in the case of the Obama Administration’s entrance into the Israeli elections, are frequently accused of trying to sway or indeed interfere with another nation’s campaign cycles.

Yet what is strange about the charges of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government is that those landscapes were concocted into something supposedly criminal and uniquely applicable to Donald Trump’s election and presidency. Indeed, one of the strangest events in recent political history was the post-election false news narrative that Trump and the “Russians” had colluded during the campaign to rob Hillary Clinton of a sure victory.

The discredited concoction lingers to this day, despite the fact that former FBI Director James Comey on three occasions told Trump that he was not the subject of any investigation about collusion with the Russians.

Both the former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan (both foes of Trump) at various times admitted that there was no intelligence, to their knowledge, that implicated Trump as a colluder with Vladimir Putin to gain advantage over Clinton. Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson seconded that consensus by conceding there was no evidence of any Trump campaign effort to persuade the Russian to alter the elections. In a more general sense, Barack Obama (who had intelligence reports of Russian election-cycle hacking) three weeks before the election, and the assumed certain victory of Hillary Clinton, had dismissed entirely the idea that any party could taint a U.S. election. Obama went on to accuse Trump of whining for even suggesting that the impending election might be questioned by impropriety.

Even news producers at CNN, the chief engine that drove the collusion fairy tale, were caught on camera admitting that the entire story was mostly “bulls—t”. And one producer added, “And so I think the president is probably right to say, ‘Look, you are witch hunting me.’” Recently, three staffers, including a reporter and an executive editor, resigned from CNN in disgrace for peddling more fake news accounts of collusion between Trump and the Russians.

It would simply be factually inaccurate to declare that the newspapers today are more "trustworthy" than they were prior to Trump being elected.

This is not an issue of competition between who's being more factual. It's a competition between how our media "used to" behave in regards to editorial and fact checking standards... vs how they behave "today".

Your personal feelings about the President "should not" logically sway your opinion about the accuracy and trust worthiness of the Press. Which by any objective accounts have gotten far worse in covering Trump than in any time in our history.

But at the very least, you admit that your feelings about the President does influence your feelings about the press. I give you props for owning up to that.

And do you, CH, admit that your feelings about the President influence your opinion about how unreliable the Press is? That was frankly my main point. Democrats cannot indulge themselves with unthinking agreement with whatever Trump tweets - and therefore do not view the press as unreliable as do the Republicans.

Since you ask, I've always considered a adversarial free press to be more reliable and truthful than the sycophantic press. Regardless of which press, which party. So it doesn't surprise me if the Press today is more believable, more reliable, than was sympathetic coverage during Obama's terms.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

You guys don't seem to understand is that Donald Trump attacks the Press when they print the truth. He has documented lies and is easy to prove and the impossible to disprove hundreds of them. Is the press perfect hell no. But they do their most of them do a very good job not all but they're not out to get the president they are most of them are to report the news good-news-bad-news or indifferent. Donald Trump calls it fake news because disagreeing with him means that they are automatically wrong completely. His ego is completely overwhelming and believes it he has no fault at all. And if somebody criticizes him they're vicious and out to get him the truth doesn't matter to him it is what he says is the truth as he sees it as the absolute truth no matter what. As part of my treatment I have a appointment couple times a week with a psychiatrist and he's a questions my thinking ability and working on stuff like that and is doing very well and the fact he is very happy with my and I'm improving quickly. But he said things about the president exactly I have been saying, a narcissistic and he's got major mental issues. And he's a qualified professional not just some guy like me or you standing around or typing or saying something he knows what's going on. Republicans for many many years have always said that the address is out to get them and in some cases it may be true however. In the case of Donald Trump is Donald Trump's words actions that actually provide the information that we put they put up on the news and except for a few exceptions it's deadly accurate and

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Donald Trump does not accept the fact that he is not perfect. To criticize him as a personal insult that's not the way a president should be. If you look around the world he isn't looked at as an embarrassment to the United States. They wonder what the heck we did and I can see why he just comes off the wall with his ball tweets vicious attacks on women as not the only time he's done that. Remember Megyn Kelly blood coming out of her eyes. Doing Google shirt search on Donald Trump insults to women and it will bring out a dozens of filmed and quotes of him speaking out and vicious ways against women. On top of all that all this created is Major distraction towards getting the health reform through the system which is not going to go anyhow but it made it even harder for they're probably going to do that. And if you notice a large number including the leadership of both houses criticizes donald.trump for those tweets and in others to Republicans numerous Republicans at all different levels criticize him said he needs to put down the Tweeter and get back to work. But he doesn't he does what he wants he's impulsive and I think he's dangerous. To have a man with his impulsive tendencies with with the red button within within his reach at 24 hours a day it has to be a little frightening. He's also hinted that he may use military forces on North Korea. That would if they did that we could be drawn into a quagmire like we were in the fifties and it's still not resolved. You really think you want him to do this kind of thing I'm just asking a serious question. No cursing no yelling I'm just asking what he says and what he does what is going on in his mind. Has not because he's a Republican it is because this businessman who thought he could get negotiate deals hasn't been able to negotiate anything. Remember that meeting with all senators all the Republicans he did not change one mind. Lyndon Baines Johnson would scare the heck out of senators that would not cooperate because they knew he would get them and he had a new how to get them Donald Trump does not know how to do that. I just don't get it that how you can sit back and ignore this and say oh it's okay I can handle it he's a good guy and you just overreacting Roger I don't think I am seriously I've been around politics it a long time I watch it religiously almost four 60 years I have never seen anything like this I remember Nixon and Kennedy. All those years I've watched politics nothing never never ever seen anything like this and it's not because of different I don't mind different because it's it's dangerous a different there's a difference between having a different way to do things that are a threat and that bothers me.

Since you ask, I've always considered a adversarial free press to be more reliable and truthful than the sycophantic press. Regardless of which press, which party.

So then you were pretty much trusting and reading Breitbart, Hotair, and the conservative media when Obama was President...

and you didn't trust CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, or NYT back then, because they were not adversarial?

Or is what you "really" want to say is that you trust a press that is adversarial to whatever you feel adversarial to?

And do you, CH, admit that your feelings about the President influence your opinion about how unreliable the Press is?

I read projection sites, legal blogs, etc... where my 100% sole concern is finding people who get things right.

If I read Politico and Breitbart back to back, you simply get two different takes on the world... neither objective, neither (even trying to be) 100% truthful.

But what I can tell you is that I don't find one side or the other any more or less credible when they are "adversarial".

Adversarial is just another way of saying biased... as in predisposed too find things wrong and to find things to complain about. Being predisposed to anything (either for or against) voids you of any hope of being objective or truthful.

By definition, being adversarial means you are not objective and therefor not truthful.
