Self absorbed media believes that Crazy Mika now a martyr...

I watched a little cable news coverage of yesterday's big news events... you know, the travel ban going into place, the passage of Kate's law, and such. Apparently I didn't realize that the big story was the Donald Trump tweet about Mika Brzezinski and how this changes the narrative about cable news.

Yes, apparently Trump didn't understand that making fun of a face lift is insensitive to women everywhere, because women understand the need for face lifts and see any supposed attacks on the procedure as sexist. The very young and pretty woman host on one of those panels explained all of this in great detail, telling everyone that when the time came, she was going to have as many face lifts as necessary to continue to look young. She explained that she was just like women every where.

Women everywhere, huh?  The reality is that a little under 1.5 million women have the cosmetic surgery commonly referred to as a face lift. The average cost of one of these procedures is into the five figure range (about $11,000). What this means is that as a general rule that less than one in a hundred women will have a face lift in any given year, and quite obviously this only includes those who can afford to spend several grand on a cosmetic procedure.

How many of your conservative blue collar Trump voters "really" feel bad for Mika Brzenzinski because Trump made fun of her fact lift procedure? How many of them now see the medium profile television personality as a martyr representing all of those poor, downtrodden, vulnerable face lifted women in the world? How many of them believe that they will be getting as many face lifts as needed to keep looking young?

Once again, I think the media living in their own little cocoon (where getting as many face lifts as necessary is the way of life) is not exactly "relating" to the average American women out there. I believe most people tend to think of face lifts as being for the rich and famous and a sign of vanity and self indulgence.

But I could be wrong...

Yep, it is too late for you CH. Welcome to the third world country of Trump.

President Trump’s tweet about MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski sounds like something from a banana republic and is how Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez and the Philippines’ Rodrigo Duterte would talk about their opponents.

Krauthammer said, “[I]t degrades the political discourse and it embarrasses the country. Presidents

I'm sure your new bride feels the same which is even more sad. LOL

Opie - my wife is considered ultra-liberal even by Seattle standards. She wouldn't vote for Donald Trump if there was a gun to her head.

That being said, I don't think she will be needing any face lifts any time soon. She's a gorgeous 30 something woman who looks much younger. Between her skin care, washes, tonics, and lotions, working out, yoga, and everything else... she sees cosmetic surgery as being for those who are too lazy to take care of themselves.

Considering you a regular people is like saying trump is acting presidential. LOL. Something you all constantly berated clinton when he was in office. Now, the tides have turned and your POTUS is acting like the fool, while you worship him as a savior.. Sad.

What do facelifts have to do with your wife???? I surely did not mention them like trump. Changing the subject, what you do best. LOLOL

Considering you a regular people is like saying trump is acting presidential.

Not even sure what that means... but if you are curious, I did check this out with some women I know (most of whom are not Trump supporters) and they see no knight in shining armor on this one.

Reality Opie... this isn't about "condoning" anything. To me, it's a matter of priority. I could spend all my time worrying about what Donald Trump was tweeting, but what good does it do me?

Similarly... I never condoned any of Clinton's behavior in the White House with Lewinski or the other women. But it didn't change my opinion that Bill Clinton was an effective President and I was able to separate my personal dislike for his personal behavior from what he was trying to do as President.

I think you forget that I have been pretty much supportive of every President I have known in my lifetime (going back to Reagan). The only exception to this was that (try as I may) I could never become a fan of the community organizer. Like Obama, Clinton had ego and was more liberal than I would have liked... but at least things got done and the two Parties worked together to pass things like Welfare reform, and to lower the deficit.

C.H. Truth said...

LOL and she doesn't rub off on you.

I would say that it's been the opposite. Now that she is older, homeowner, married, makes real money, etc... some of her priorities have changed over the past five years. She no longer reflexively supports things she used to. She is not a fan of the millennial generation and their version of politics.

She is still very liberal on many core beliefs, but she has become somewhat of an observational conservative (as in we agree on many of the things we can clearly observe in real life - while we still disagree about underlying philosophical issues).

But for the most part we don't engage in classic Dem/GOP political discussions, especially anything to do with Donald Trump.

Look around there may of them krauthamer for one. You like him always have you think he's and he's very intelligent I don't agree with him very often but he's on the top of this exactly. We also have plenty of friends and family (from both sides) who are very religious. Most of my family (from my Mother's side) are devout Catholics and much of her family still prays before meals.

Oddly, there seemed to be no problems with everyone getting along. In fact, one gay couple we know still goes to church every Sunday morning. Very religious.

“Repealing the health law without a replacement would kick about 18 million Americans off of health coverage in the first year — and reach 26 million a few years later, according to a CBO analysis of a 2015 bill to repeal the health law without a replacement.”

Progressive Journalists Are Outraged At The NRA For Pointing Out Leftist Violence

Two days before an assassination attempt on Republicans, the NRA posted a video on Facebook warning of leftist violence. Progressive journalists are now pretending political violence is the NRA's fault.

Barely two weeks after a progressive Democrat activist attempted a mass assassination of Republican officials, progressives are outraged at the NRA for noting that the Second Amendment gives people the right to defend themselves, with arms if necessary, from people who might try to assassinate them or their families.

You might not remember it because the news media pivoted away from the story as quickly as possible, but just two weeks ago an anti-Trump Bernie Bro tried to assassinate a bunch of elected Republican officials while they practiced for the annual bipartisan Congressional baseball game. Just days after the New York Times revealed that Republicans regularly practiced at a public park in Alexandria with minimal protective detail, the shooter showed up at the park and started surveilling it. According to the FBI, he even took pictures of the location. Before opening fire on the lawmakers, the shooter also confirmed that the assembled officials were Republicans.

Respecting only those beliefs you personally share is the very essence of intolerance, bigotry, and often times leads to discrimination.

However, mature people can figure out how to weigh opposing views without demanding that we draw lines in the sand and demand you stand on one side or the other... It's exactly this thinking that drives most terrorism in the world. But it seems to be the way "you" believe everyone should think.

Why would a state want to hide their voter information from a federal audit?

It is, after all, a Federal election that they are looking into and you openly give up this information when you register to vote. You know that it could be used for a variety of election related studies, etc...

There is no reasonable believe that this audit will compromise anyone's privacy...

Unless of course, that private information is somehow incriminating? Perhaps California has something to hide when it comes to their voter rolls?

____

You seem to love to make the argument that if Trump is not guilty of anything that he shouldn't complain about a Federal investigation.

Perhaps you should be a little more consistent. Nobody in this case is being criminally investigated. It's just a simple probe that a majority of the Country wants to see completed?

I mean... wouldn't you want to prove once and for all that "no illegals" vote... if that's truly what you believe. (of course we know that you really don't believe that, which is why the left is so scared of this probe).

I believe that two members of the Nazi Party have the right to hold a Nazi wedding with swastika armbands, a swastika backdrop, and maybe even a swastika patterned wedding dress... In fact, they have the exact same legal right as a same sex couple to have whatever sort of ceremony that they want.

I also believe that if they came to me and asked my band to play at this event, that I could legally respectfully decline to play. To the degree that you see this choice as being discriminatory, then I support the choices of people to stand by their principals (whether or not I agree with them).

My best guess is that you would see the actions of someone refusing to work at this Nazi wedding as justified, but would not see the actions of someone refusing to work at a same sex wedding the same way. (My guess is that you would support the baker who refused to bake the Swastika cake)

For the sole reason that you would "agree" with the person refusing to have anything to do with the Nazi wedding, but "not agree" with the person refusing to work at a same sex marriage.

For you, it's not a matter of principal, but a matter of you seeing your beliefs as being more important than other people's beliefs.

C.H. Truth said...

Now on the flip side...

If my band had a CD and the Nazis wanted to purchase that CD and play it at their wedding... then I have no right to tell them that they cannot purchase my CD.

Likewise, if the gay couple walks into a bakery and wants to buy a cake that is sitting in the display (that is not a special order) - then that Baker should sell it to them.

There is a significant difference between not selling your staple merchandise to someone and being asked to customize a special order for a specific event or for a specific cause.

GOP Strategist Sees Slim Chance for Health Care Bill

“Senate Republican leaders know that chances of passing their health bill are slim, that they depend on preserving some Obamacare tax hikes, and that they probably require flipping the vote of vulnerable Nevada Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV),” according to John Harwood.

“Those assessments, from a GOP strategist familiar with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s thinking, show how narrow a path awaits Senate Republicans when they return July 10 after a holiday week off. McConnell hasn’t given up, the strategist said, but is unlikely to allow debate to extend past July 21.”

Said the strategist: “The odds for them getting 51 votes might be at best one in five. There are limits to what he can do. He is not turning water into wine.”

He added that the week of July 17 is the last one McConnell will devote to the health care debate: “You might lose badly. You might only get 20 or 30 votes.”

This is what President Trump called for yesterday. I am certain that the health care system would go into total chaos. The number of people uninsured would increase drastically almost immediately.

"Insurers depend on projections to set price levels — if they are told that the federal regulations governing their entire industry are going to change but not how (or maybe not even when), the inevitable result is widespread uncertainty. That uncertainty will most likely cause insurers to pull out — and for Americans to be left with less competition and even higher premiums. In essence, it’s likely to set off a death spiral and cause Americans to lose their insurance.

When Republicans floated a similar idea in 2015, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that it would result in 32 million Americans losing their insurance, and health care premiums doubling by 2026.

Ultimately, repeal and delay failed the first time because it’s a bad and dangerous idea — as conservative think tanks, major medical lobbying groups, doctors, and Republican governors whose states benefited from Obamacare all pointed out.
President Trump, however, is nearing the end of his sixth month in office without any major legislative accomplishments — and is calling for a political win at any cost."

https://thinkprogress.org/repeal-and-delay-redux-ec4e48d550d

The cost increases occurred because any employer healthcare would be very uncertain. The uncertainty would lead to reduced coverage, or even elimination of insurance. He is trying to fulfill a promise, but he can't without hurting millions of people.

Not that it bothers him at all.

Democrats Go In for the Kill on Obamacare Repeal

“They got a boost on Friday when President Trump muddied the waters for his party by suggesting senators repeal ObamaCare now and replace it later — an option that was roundly rejected by Republicans in January.

“The GOP tug of war comes as Democrats are united around a single political message: That the bill will give tax breaks to the rich while taking healthcare away coverage for the poor.”

On Being Recruited to Collude with the Russians

Matt Tait offers an accounting “of experiences which were thoroughly bizarre and which I did not fully understand” when a longtime Republican activist sought his help in trying to obtain Hillary Clinton emails from Russian hackers.

TAIT: "Over the course of our conversations, one thing struck me as particularly disturbing. Smith and I talked several times about the DNC hack, and I expressed my view that the hack had likely been orchestrated by Russia and that the Kremlin was using the stolen documents as part of an influence campaign against the United States. I explained that if someone had contacted him via the “Dark Web” with Clinton’s personal emails, he should take very seriously the possibility that this may have been part of a wider Russian campaign against the United States. And I said he need not take my word for it, pointing to a number of occasions where US officials had made it clear that this was the view of the U.S. intelligence community as well.

"Smith, however, didn’t seem to care. From his perspective it didn’t matter who had taken the emails, or their motives for doing so. He never expressed to me any discomfort with the possibility that the emails he was seeking were potentially from a Russian front, a likelihood he was happy to acknowledge. If they were genuine, they would hurt Clinton’s chances, and therefore help Trump.

Dead men tell no tales...

First the allegations are that some dead guy was looking for Hillary's missing 38,000 emails and apparently thought about asking some Trump officials if they knew where they were.

Those missing 38,000 emails were supposedly not even the same ones that were hacked by the Russians.

According to sources there is no indication that he even actually contacted them, much less asked them, much less got any coordination.

Even if he had, what Flynn or anyone else says about what Smith might have told them would be irrelevant as it would be hearsay and legally inadmissible.

This is what it has come to for big reporting? Twitter wars and rumors about dead people.

You have already heard the best of what you will hear... which is just another weak allegation being held together by fraying thread.

The fact that this stuff still gets you hard, only proves how gullible you still are.

Smith was looking for the emails that Hillary had deleted and he was trying to obtain them from hacker groups, including the Russians. He provided some emails to that UK security firm for validation. Smith was coordinating his efforts with the Trump campaign.

I wouldn't blow this off CH. It's not innuendo nor fabricated news from anonymous leaks, and it goes beyond no-harm-no-foul. Certainly Smith hoped that the Russians had hacked those emails and would provide them. Depending on how solid the links are with the campaign, this could snowball.

I am curious, WP... where do you seem to find all this extra information that others do not have:

WSJ

GOP activist Peter W. Smith listed Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway, besides Mike Flynn, in a recruiting document; his purpose isn’t clear and there is no indication he asked for or received any coordination with them

Even the "opinion" of the UK security consultant is inconclusive (by his own accounts) about Smith's ties to the Trump team... not to mention totally legally irrelevant, as it would be speculation based on hearsay with a grand total of zero real evidence.

Seems to me (that like with most everything else) that you took nothing but unproven innuendo and decided to define it into "something tangible" as if that is just something one can just do.

You used to be much more logical (and less prone to emotional self-indulgence with the truth). You should really try to recover some of that old WP cynical logic. You are just too easy these days...

Ch, your somewhat cleverly worded but evasive comment at 10:39 overlooks this:

'Flynn’s lawyer has said he has “a story to tell.”'

For that reason, I think Wp is correct when he advises you you maybe better not be so quick to blow this off.

C.H. Truth said...

If these innuendos are even slightly true, James...

They put Flynn both right in the middle, and front and center. Quite possibly the ring leader and only person who would not have plausible deniability.

This isn't an episode of Perry Mason, where someone just gets on the stand and confesses to the murder. This is real life and in real life an attorney doesn't instruct their client to admit to their guilt. Whatever story Flynn has to tell would make him appear innocent.... not guilty.

Meaning... this is NOT the story Flynn has to tell.

But I understand your need to think otherwise.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

We shall gladly wait for Flynn to tell, as his lawyer, says, his "story."

My knowledge of English usage predispositions me to think that when someone's lawyer says that his client has "a story to tell," it could be quite significant.

Also, Ch, why did you leave off part of the quote? It's in capitals below.

"General Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit," Mr Kelner said.

"The media are awash with unfounded allegations, outrageous claims of treason, and vicious innuendo DIRECTED AGAINST HIM."
___________

IOW, not against Trump, but against him personally.

Yep, let's wait to see just what story he DOES have to tell.

Smith repeatedly claimed that he was in contact with Flynn about the effort to find Clinton’s emails, per Harris’s sources.

“He said, ‘I’m talking to Michael Flynn about this — if you find anything, can you let me know?’” said Eric York, a computer-security expert from Atlanta who searched hacker forums on Mr. Smith’s behalf for people who might have access to the emails. ...

... In phone conversations, Mr. Smith told a computer expert he was in direct contact with Mr. Flynn and his son, according to this expert. ... The expert said that based on his conversations with Mr. Smith, he understood the elder Mr. Flynn to be coordinating with Mr. Smith’s group in his capacity as a Trump campaign adviser.

Likely Smith was the intermediary between Russian hackers and Flynn referred to by intelligence gathered by US Intelligence services.

Here is a good recap of events:

About ten days before he died in mid-May, an 81-year-old man who did not work for the Trump campaign told the Journal he had speculated that, but did not know whether, 33,000 of Hillary Clinton’s e-mails had been hacked from her homebrew server. The now-deceased man, “a longtime Republican opposition researcher” named Peter W. Smith, had theorized that the e-mails must have been stolen, “likely by Russian hackers.” But he had no idea if this was actually so, and he himself certainly had nothing to do with stealing them.

Smith’s desire to obtain the hacked emails, if there were any, peaked around Labor Day 2016 — i.e., during the last weeks of the campaign. This was many months after the FBI had taken physical custody of Clinton’s homebrew server and other devices containing her e-mails. It was also two months after the Bureau’s then-director, James Comey, had told the country that the FBI had found no evidence that Clinton had been hacked . . . but that her carelessness about communications security, coupled with the proficiency of hackers in avoiding detection, meant her e-mails could well have been compromised throughout her years as secretary of state.

In other words, Peter W. Smith was one of about 320 million people in the United States who figured that Clinton’s e-mails had been hacked — by Russia, China, Iran, ISIS, the NSA, the latest iteration of “Guccifer,” and maybe even that nerdy kid down at Starbucks with “Feel the Bern” stickers on his laptop.

Besides having no relationship with Trump, Smith also had no relationship with the Russian regime. Besides not knowing whether the Clinton e-mails were actually hacked, he also had no idea whether the Kremlin or anyone close to Vladimir Putin had obtained the e-mails. In short, he wouldn’t have been able to tell you whether Trump and Putin were colluding with each other because he wasn’t colluding with either one of them.

But — here comes the blockbuster info — Smith was colluding with Michael Flynn. Or at least he kinda, sorta was . . . except for, you know, the Journal’s grudging acknowledgement that, well, okay, Smith never actually told the paper that Flynn was involved in what the report calls “Smith’s operation.”

wphamilton said...

But only one or two of those 300 million were seeking the emails from Russia for Flynn in the Trump campaign. Smith would be playing the role of the cut-out on behalf of the Trump campaign.
