Assuming Manafort is Mueller's target...

UPDATED:  Manafort (and business partner unrelated to Trump) are the targets

I argued back in Sept that an indictment against Paul Manafort would likely be a bad sign for those expecting to find evidence of 2016 election Russian Trump collusion.

Assuming that Now that we know Manafort is the target (and so far I have not heard any other names that make any real sense) and assuming that the focus is on international banking transactions that took place in 2012 and 2013, then I would stand by that reasoning.

The exception would be if there was some sort of indictment, charges, and then some quick plea agreement that suggests there was some sort of cooperation involved. If (as Manafort attorneys have stated) Manafort is providing no information and there is no plea, then it would stand to reason that the charges are the equivalent to Mueller making a statement (to others) or basically calling Manafort down (possibly hoping it's a bluff).

The other issue to keep in mind here is that while the media is suggesting that these international banking transactions were "previously undisclosed" the reality is that they were only undisclosed to media sources. The banking community provided the government with a list of these transactions (as they are required to by law) at the time they took place. Furthermore, by all accounts the FBI has previously investigated these transactions and chose (at the time) not to press any charges. So it seems unlikely that any potential charges against Manafort are slam dunk obvious charges (if they were, then he would have been charged when they were first investigated).

Either way... if the indictment and charges that come this week are not related specifically to something specific to the 2016 election and some sort of conspiracy charge... then bringing charges this early seems more like a sign of weakness, than a sign of strength. Especially considering the timing of everything involved.

The Donald this morning is going crazy tweeting as he tries to deflect attention away from the upcoming indictments onto ------- you guessed it, Hillary.

Here is how Vox’s Zack Beauchamp broke it down:

The notion that the Clinton campaign paying Steele is the same as Trump (allegedly) colluding with Russia is laughable.

The former involves paying an experienced private investigator — remember, Steele is a retired British agent — to conduct research. The latter involves working with a hostile foreign government to influence the outcome of a US election, and potentially aiding and abetting a crime (the hack and theft of Clinton campaign and DNC emails) in the process.

Laughable.

Jane, you just destroyed the collusion case against President Trump.
You do know that, right?

The fact that Hillary and Obama funnel money to the same guy/organization leads to this question.

What did they buy?

When even Susan Collins wants podesta and Wasserman Schultz recalled to testify before the Senate, you know they're in trouble.

Some are confused about just what is deflection and what is increasingly serious.

Well well, from all I have read, and I have been keeping up with this, more than most of you other than CH, unless there is a "big surprise" on "Magic Monday" CH has pretty well hit it.

I suspect there are illegal financial charges, the law is quite complex but hiding things cam also be very profitable, so like I said, I don't expect a surprise. For Flynn, I really don't know.

Like I said Fri., low- hanging fruit.

Leaking to CNN is another weak attempt to look big.

Apparently the fbi investigated manafort back in 2012-2013 for some unusual wire transfers

CNN is credible. You believe that Fox news is legit. It's not.

It's nothing more than the Russian media, it is the voice of the Trump administration, just like this blog.

The FBI's investigation of Donald Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, includes a keen focus on a series of suspicious wire transfers in which offshore companies linked to Manafort moved more than $3 million all over the globe between 2012 and 2013.

Much of the money came into the United States.

These transactions — which have not been previously reported — drew the attention of federal law enforcement officials as far back as 2012, when they began to examine wire transfers to determine if Manafort hid money from tax authorities or helped the Ukrainian regime close to Russian President Vladimir Putin launder some of the millions it plundered through corrupt dealings.

The new revelations come as special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is tightening, with reports that an indictment may already have been issued. It is not known if Manafort has been charged, or if he ever will be. Manafort has been the subject of multiple law enforcement and congressional inquiries. A spokesperson for Manafort would not comment for this story about the investigation or any of the specific transactions, but Manafort has previously denied wrongdoing.

Manafort took charge of Trump’s campaign in May 2016 and was forced to resign just three months later, amid intense media scrutiny of his ties to the notoriously corrupt former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, who was supported by the Kremlin. A political operative for decades, the 68-year-old Manafort has worked for Republicans such as presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, as well as for foreign leaders such as former Philippines president Ferdinand Marcos.

It's looking like he's in legal limbo. But you have to wonder if they will offer amnesty if he tells us the whole damn thing on the President.

Cnn is so credible that their collusion reporter, Evans, ud close friends with the fusion gps leadership. They all worked together st wsj.

At least fox gives both sides instead of just bring propaganda mouthpiece for democrats.

If it can be proven that Trump actually helped the Russians hack the Clinton and DNC emails... then VOX has a valid point.

Otherwise, their point is 100% political and 0% legal.

There is no difference (according to the law) between being helped by someone who is British and someone who is Russian. They would both be foreigners and both would be working to "influence" an election. To the degree that it would be "illegal" is to whether or not crimes were being committed in the process.

Reid Accuses Comey of Breaking Federal Law

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said that FBI Director James Comey “may have violated a federal law when he disclosed, less than two weeks before the presidential election, that his office was pursuing potential new evidence related to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

Said Reid: “I am writing to inform you that my office has determined that these actions may violate the Hatch Act. Through your partisan actions, you may have broken the law.”

In the next week, the educated white suburbs are not going over to Trump, nor will any of the ethic groups who can't stand your anti-Clinnton hero. They are motivated, and are responding to Bernie and Michelle Obama, and the President. Who does Trump have to get out the vote, other than himself and Pence. Keep dreaming my friend.

It will be close in the popular vote, 5% or less. But he won't get PA, NC, NV FL, and CO in sufficient numbers to approach 270. He will come in second in Utah, so those ECV won't be on his side. His path, considering the early vote that you dismissed out of hand and the far superior get out the vote efforts across the swing states, Clinton will get more than 300 ICV.
