Full GOP Senate Support for Tax Bill

According to multiple sources, the GOP has full support in the Senate, which is enough to pass the bill even if McCain and Cochran are unable to make the vote.

This would appear to be the first major legislative victory for the GOP since Trump was elected. We'll see if it leads to more to come.

Three big wins for my family
1. Rate drops to 22 % from 28 % and top income at the lower rate increases
2. Pass thru rate goes from 28% to 20 % for our sole proprietorship.
3, instant deduction on purchased Equipment

Why is it prez obama in 8 years never did this for middle income families and small businesses?

Think of this. In 2018 we will have 11 months of Bigly paychecks. Those working will be keeping more. Those of us like myself that have a defined benefit for my life will receive more money monthly.

Think that will be benificial to those in political power that made that actually happen?

Worst Piece of Legislation In Modern History

Fareed Zakaria: “If the Republican tax plan passes Congress, it will mark a watershed for the United States. The medium- and long-term effects of the plan will be a massive drop in public investment, which will come on the heels of decades of declining spending (as a percentage of gross domestic product) on infrastructure, scientific research, skills training and core government agencies. The United States can’t coast on past investments forever, and with this legislation, we are ushering in a bleak future.

“There are genuine problems beyond underfunding. The costs of building American infrastructure are astronomical. But during the Depression, World War II and much of the Cold War, a sense of crisis and competition focused America’s attention and created a bipartisan urgency to get things done. Ironically, at a time when competition is far more fierce, when other countries have surpassed the United States in many of these areas, America has fallen into extreme partisanship and embraced a know-nothing libertarianism that is starving the country of the essential investments it needs for growth. Those who vote for this tax bill — possibly the worst piece of major legislation in a generation — will live in infamy, as the country slowly breaks down.”

Last Minute Tax Provision Benefits Trump

“Republican congressional leaders and real estate moguls could be personally enriched by a real-estate-related provision GOP lawmakers slipped into the final tax bill released Friday evening,” according to the International Business Times.

”The legislative language was not part of previous versions of the bill and was added despite ongoing conflict-of-interest questions about the intertwining real estate interests and governmental responsibilities of President Donald Trump — the bill’s chief proponent.”

Rubio Says GOP Will Move Next on Social Security

“Advocates for seniors and the middle class have been warning for weeks that the Republican drive to cut taxes for the wealthy is the prelude to a larger attack on Social Security and Medicare,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) admitted as much in an interview with Politico: “We have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes to Social Security and Medicare for the future.

“The only thing that’s new here is the explicit admission by a Republican officeholder that this is the GOP’s master plan to eviscerate the welfare and retirement of American workers. Budget analysts have seen it coming with all the subtlety of a freight train.”

Trump Deported Fewer Than Obama In First Year

“Despite President Trump’s tough-on-immigration rhetoric, there have been fewer deportations in his first year as president than there were in any year of Barack Obama’s presidency,” Axios reports.
“There were 177,000 fewer deportations this year than in 2009, Obama’s first year in office.”

Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are: "vulnerable," "entitlement," "diversity," "transgender," "fetus," "evidence-based" and "science-based."

If I really believed for a single second that he was guilty of any such act, I would go before my church and get them to join me in legal action against him. The only reason I do not do that is because I know they would laugh at me, as would pastor Boswell's church and his regional elders and leaders.

No, Virginia, It’s Not Tax Reform

New York Times: “The Republican tax bill does not pass the postcard test. It leaves nearly every large tax break in place. It creates as many new preferences for special interests as it gets rid of. It will keep corporate accountants busy for years to come. And no taxpayer will ever see the postcard-size tax return that President Trump laid a kiss on in November as Republican leaders launched their tax overhaul effort. This was not the grand simplification of the code that Republicans promised when they set out to eliminate tax breaks and cut the number of tax brackets as they lowered rates.

“As their bill tore through Congress, their ambitions fell to the powerful forces of lobbying and the status quo. Killed tax breaks returned to life. New ones sprung up beside them. A plan for three individual tax brackets became five, and finally eight. … What emerged on Friday, in the final product agreed to by Republican members of a House-Senate conference committee, was a bill that layers new tax complexities upon businesses large and small, and which delivers a larger share of benefits to corporations and the rich than to the middle class.”

About 2% according to the most optimistic calculations, and I'll believe that when I see it. But down the road that temporary reduction expires, while the real tax cuts for the wealthy and the vast corporate deduction do not, and I'll be seeing a huge increase to make up for the revenue shortfall.

A tiny reduction now, at best, in exchange for a big increase later. You'd have to be stupid to celebrate that deal.

it's official. liberals have completely lost their minds:

There’s a reason the tax bill is so unpopular. It’s a terrible idea – arguably, if approved, the worst law to be enacted on Capitol Hill since the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which allowed the return of captured escaped slaves up North to their whip-cracking masters down South. I’d argue that it’s worse, for example, than the Gulf of Tonkin resolution that escalated the Vietnam War in 1964 – because at least then senators honestly trusted a White House that was bamboozling them about the underlying facts. Here, House and Senate Republicans know exactly what they’re doing.

"The largest tax reductions are for the middle class [applause] - who have been forgotten. Called the forgotten man and woman. They have been forgotten. The middle class with family of two children will get basically, approximately, a thirty-five percent tax cut. And that's what they can use - and that money will go back into the economy"

This tax bill is 180° opposite of this. A tiny reduction for the middle class (if they're lucky) which is reversed in a few years to pay the deficit caused by the huge tax break for the wealthy and corporations. Another failed promise.
