NYT and WashPo rehash old claims as new...

Liberals shit their pants over the new old news...

Last summer there were multiple reports that President Trump wanted to fire James Mueller, but was talked out of it by top aides, who suggested that it would be a bad idea.

Yesterday the NY Times and Washington Post both reported that President Trump wanted to fire James Mueller, but was talked out of it by top aides, who suggested it would be a bad idea.

I seriously wonder how anyone can still fall for this nonsense...

Trump Ordered Mueller Fired In June

“President Trump ordered the firing last June of Robert Mueller, the special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation, according to FOUR PEOPLE WHO TOLD OF THE MATTER, but ultimately BACKED DOWN after THE WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL THREATENED TO RESIGN RATHER THAN CARRY OUT THE DIRECTIVE,” the New York Times reports.

“The West Wing confrontation marks the first time Mr. Trump is KNOWN to have tried to fire the special counsel. Mr. Mueller LEARNED ABOUT THE EPISODE IN RECENT MONTHS AS HIS INVESTIGATION INTERVIEWED CURRENT AND FORMER SENIOR WHITE HOUSE OFFICIALS in his inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice.”

This is the first time I can recall open government groups and many reporters joining in the argument to keep the information secret. They are strangely uncurious about alleged improprieties with implications of the worst kind: Stasi-like tactics used against Americans. “Don’t be irresponsible and reveal sources and methods,” they plead.

Trump denies bombshell report that he asked for Mueller to be fired

President Donald Trump has denied a bombshell report that he had ordered the firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, head of the probe into his campaigns ties to Russia, calling it "fake news".

The New York Times reported on Thursday that Trump ordered Mueller to be fired last June, one month after Mueller had been appointed. Trump had fired FBI Director James Comey the previous month.

The White House counsel reportedly balked at the notion and refused to direct the Justice Department to fire Mueller, and Trump was said to have eventually backed down from the decision, according to The Times.

"Fake news, folks, fake news," Trump told reporters in Davos, Switzerland, on Friday, where he is expected to give a speech.

President Donald Trump is quick to use the term "fake news," but in reality a lot of what he himself says is as fake, misleading, and inaccurate as it comes. He even tried to claim he came up with the term "fake news." Add that to growing list of falsehoods.

The Washington Post has been tracking Trump's lies since he was sworn into office earlier this year. That's 298 days of falsehoods — some small, others way bigger. The paper's total is at 1,628 lies, which breaks down to an average of 5.5 lies a day.

Assuming that he continues to lie at the same pace, by the end of the year he should hit about 2,000 false statements. By the end of his first four-year term as president he can be forecast to lie about 8,000 times.

Sean Hannity Scoffs at report Trump tried to fire Mueller, then backpedals after a FOX News correspondent confirms it

Fox News host Sean Hannity backpedaled on a rant against a bombshell New York Times report that said President Donald Trump tried to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

After railing against The Times's story, Hannity appeared to concede once a Fox News correspondent confirmed the details.

Following a New York Times' report that President Donald Trump had ordered special counsel Robert Mueller fired one month after he was chosen to oversee the Russia investigation, Fox News host Sean Hannity came out swinging on his program Thursday night.

"They're trying to change the story," Hannity said, referring to The Times's report. "At this hour, The New York Times is trying to distract you."

"And our sources, and I've checked in with many of them, they're not confirming that tonight," Hannity continued. "And the president's attorney dismissed the story, and says, 'Nope, no comment. We're not going there.' And how many times has The New York Times and others gotten it wrong."

Hannity then opened the floor for commentary from former Trump aide Sebastian Gorka and former Republican Party presidential candidate Herman Cain, both of whom discussed news of the text messages exchanged between FBI agent Peter Strzok and lawyer Lisa Page instead.

Later during the segment, Hannity appeared to concede to The Times's earlier reporting.

"All right, so we have sources tonight just confirming ... that yeah, maybe Donald Trump wanted to fire the special counsel for a conflict," the Fox News host said. "Does he not have the right to raise those questions?"

"You know, we'll deal with this tomorrow night," Hannity said, before discussing a high-speed police chase in Arizona.

In addition to the news that Trump wanted to fire Mueller, The Times, which first broke the story, reported that White House counsel Don McGahn threatened to resign over the request, and argued that Mueller's firing would bring about consequences for the Trump administration.
____________

He didn't just WANT to fire him. He didn't just think about firing him. He didn't just raise questions about such a firing. He actually TRIED to fire him.

Say that three times. Tried. Tried. Tried.

Commonsense said...

Apparently four of his own inner circle have indicated that.

There's your lie right there. The Times said "according to four people told of the matter"

Which means none of the people were in the room and therefore not the inner circle.

After receiving the president’s order to fire Mr. Mueller, the White House counsel, Donald F. McGahn II, refused to ask the Justice Department to dismiss the special counsel, saying he would quit instead, the people said. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they did not want to be identified discussing a continuing investigation.

Mr. McGahn disagreed with the president’s case and told senior White House officials that firing Mr. Mueller would have a catastrophic effect on Mr. Trump’s presidency. Mr. McGahn also told White House officials that Mr. Trump would not follow through on the dismissal on his own. The president then backed off.
______________

I guess "senior White House officials" would be part of the inner circle and I guess if Mr. McGahn told them he had been asked to fire Mr. Mueller but refused, they were in the room when he said that.

I don't think Mr. McGahn is lying.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Trump’s desire to fire Mueller was never especially surprising or hidden. Everyone tied to the Russia investigation seems to have been in his sights at one time or another. Mueller’s appointment stemmed from Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, and Trump also raged at Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from Russia matters, and at Rod Rosenstein, who he suggested was a random Democrat, rather than a rock-ribbed Republican appointed to his job by Trump himself. The president mused about firing Mueller in an interview with the Times, and in July I wrote that the operative question was not if but when Trump would try to fire Mueller. As it turns out, he already had.

There is no credible evidence to the contrary of the story. Trump denial isn't credible.

Will Congress Move to Protect Mueller?
s
Washington Post: “There are two bills in Congress, both of which have some Republican support, that would protect Mueller from being fired by Trump. But neither bill has been seriously considered by leadership.

“Up until this point, Republicans had given Trump the benefit of the doubt that he wouldn’t launch a constitutional crisis. From their perspective, why take action and cause a confrontation with the president (and jeopardize their agenda) if they don’t absolutely have to?”

“Now they may now have to."

Bill Kristol said...

Bill Kristol speculates that White House counsel Don McGahn believes Trump may soon try to fire Mueller again:

“Unless the story came out now by accident, the sources (McGahn and allies) are probably worried Trump is about to try again to fire Mueller, and wanted to stir up a preemptive push back.”

He adds: “Why would Trump have returned to the idea of firing Mueller now? He may recently have learned how much Mueller now knows. He also soon has to agree to be interviewed or not, may have decided not, and thinks firing might be better than refusing to talk and/or taking the fifth.”

Thursday’s news made impeachment proceedings against Trump more likely. Ultimately the president’s performance in his upcoming interview with Mueller could prove decisive. Trump has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of discipline when questioned, and Mueller has a lot to work with. If Trump provides the special counsel with direct evidence of his intent when firing Comey, he could ensure that Mueller will conclude he obstructed justice, leaving his fate to Congress.

Mueller’s boss, who originally recommended him for appointment, is Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who seems to be at the center of the fascist coup today. Trump’s essential master stroke would be to fire Rosenstein and appoint Rudy Giuliani as Deputy Attorney General in his place.

Giuliani would then be Mueller’s boss, with first-hand knowledge of whatever Mueller is doing, right or wrong. Giuliani would effectively be a Super Special Counsel, but operating within the Justice Department, in accordance with America’s Constitutional framework.

Giuliani knows what laws apply to professionals at the FBI and at Justice. After many years as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, which covers Manhattan, Wall Street, and New York City, he knows how to proceed with preservation and collection of evidence, and prosecution of crimes. Expect an immediate exodus of all the Fascist coup co-conspirators, like cockroaches all scurrying about when the light is turned on in the dark basement downstairs.

Giuliani could also fire and replace Obama/Hillary co-conspirator Christopher Wray, current head of the FBI. Bring in former FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom to replace him, a true patriot committed to restoring the integrity of the FBI.

Giuliani would know how to cooperate professionally with Trump’s appointed AG Jeff Sessions. He would actually be a great aid to AG Sessions, helping him to keep on top of the entire Department. Giuliani would know what materials can and should be released to the public, and how to do it legally.

Trump Launched Campaign to Discredit FBI Witnesses

President Trump “pressed senior aides last June to devise and carry out a campaign to discredit senior FBI officials after learning that those specific employees were likely to be witnesses against him as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation,” Foreign Policy reports.

“In testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8, recently fired FBI Director James Comey disclosed that he spoke contemporaneously with other senior bureau officials about potentially improper efforts by the president to curtail the FBI’s investigation of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”

This nonsense. Your post is an embarrassment. It happened. Yet you leave it up there unaltered. You've lost it.

---The FBI officials Trump has targeted are Andrew McCabe, the current deputy FBI director and who was briefly acting FBI director after Comey’s firing; Jim Rybicki, Comey’s chief of staff and senior counselor; and James Baker, formerly the FBI’s general counsel. Those same three officials were first identified as possible corroborating witnesses for Comey in a June 7 article in Vox. Comey confirmed in congressional testimony the following day that he confided in the three men.

In the past, presidents have attacked special counsels and prosecutors who have investigated them, calling them partisan and unfair. But no previous president has attacked a long-standing American institution such as the FBI — or specific FBI agents and law enforcement officials.

Mueller has asked senior members of the administration questions in recent months indicating that prosecutors might consider Trump’s actions also to be an effort to intimidate government officials — in this case FBI officials — from testifying against him.

The New York Times reported late Thursday that Trump also ordered the firing of Mueller last June. Trump reportedly changed his mind after White House counsel Donald McGahn threatened to resign and two of the president’s highest-ranking aides told him that it would have devastating effects on his presidency.

The noose around the neck of The President is getting tighter every.

Trump Won’t Supply Rope for His Hanging
That is his most unpardonable scandal in the media's eyes.

In the media’s reckoning , the scandal is always the conservative complaint, not the misbehavior that occasions it. One can only laugh at the “experts” trotted out to knock down the charges of bias at the FBI, such as Philip Mudd, a friend of Mueller’s who worked at the CIA and FBI, whose very unhinged punditry on CNN confirms the bias he is denying. With bulging eyes, a reddening face, and his obsessive anti-Trump gibbering, Mudd is hardly a poster boy for apolitical intelligence agencies. He is, if anything, a prototype of the deep state that Trump is battling. MSNBC brought out David Ignatius to pooh-pooh allegations of misbehavior at intelligence agencies. Never mind that he is a conduit for politically-motivated leaks from them.

Oh, the “secret society” to which Strzok-Page referred is just a joke, insists the media. Maybe so, but all jokes contain an element of truth. Was Evelyn Farkas joking when she bragged about all the deep staters leaking anti-Trump material to the press? Back then, during the hysterical days of the Trump transition, figures like Farkas wanted everyone to know they belonged to the resistance. Senator Ron Johnson says a whistleblower has informed his committee that anti-Trump officials held off-site meetings. Given all the leaking from the FBI before and after Trump’s victory, clearly designed to embarrass and subvert him, that claim is completely plausible.

commie said...

Once again, An R starts a conspiracy rumor based on nothing....and Menstral cramps believes him....

But even if Mr. Nunes’s memo never sees the light of day, it has done its job — spawning a new wave of conspiracy theories as well as suspiciously timed calls to #ReleasetheMemo amplified across social media, many coming from what a German Marshall Fund tracking project found to be part of Russian-linked influence networks.

Mr. Nunes is not alone in trying to change the subject to anything other than Mr. Trump and the Russians. Thanks to some intrepid Republicans in Congress, America learned last week that the F.B.I. is harboring a “secret society” dedicated to destroying Mr. Trump. The proof? A text message using that phrase that was sent between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, F.B.I. employees who worked on the Russia investigation and who, like roughly 65 million other Americans, expressed horror at the thought of Mr. Trump becoming president. On Tuesday, Senator Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, said the society’s existence was corroborated by an “informant” — by which he probably meant his Twitter feed. On Thursday, he admitted what reasonable people everywhere had already surmised — that the reference to a “secret society,” in the context of the full message, was a joke.

Putting aside the irony of members of the law-and-order party delusionally attacking America’s law enforcement community, Mr. Nunes and his ilk are causing real and possibly lasting damage for nothing more than a short-term political win.

It must be frustrating to be a Republican in Congress these days. For years, the G.O.P. has been flogging supposed conspiracies and scandals, from Benghazi to Hillary Clinton’s email server to systemic corruption at the highest levels of the nation’s law enforcement community. Now, at last, a real conspiracy comes along, setting off an actual federal investigation by veteran law enforcement officials and leading to multiple indictments and guilty pleas — and it’s aimed at their own man.

It really started to take off in 2013 (when the 'fiscal cliff deal' raised taxes, among other things) so it will be interesting to see whether these tax cuts have the desired effect over time-- certainly they are for this month, but then the Bush economy looked pretty good too-- until we found out (too late) that much of it was built on sand ("mortgage derivative securities" based on trading packages of subprime mortgages.)

However, reasonable people can disagree over economics. After all, the reason there is a Nobel prize in economics is because it's a complex science and nobody has all the answers (just most rubes like us are smart enough to avoid making broad, sweeping statements about particle physics or how to develop new treatments for genetic diseases.)

HOWEVER, you are 100% correct in referring to the rise of white nationalism. Even had there been no WWII, the fact that Hitler built a good economy (which he actually did) is no excuse for his persecution and eventual murder of non-Germans (not to mention gay Germans, disabled Germans, or Germans who disagreed with him politically.) Anybody who either ignores or justifies this side of the Trump Presidency and his failure to confront it, shows themselves to be a moral failure.

That's a laugher. I don't know who you're quoting Roger but he's an idiot.

And if economics is "too complex a science for rubes like us to understand" most people know when they are economically well off and when they are not.

And those people know they are far better off under Donald J Trump that they ever were under Barack H Obama.

Sean Hannity is an embarrassment

Commonsense said...

Oh please!!! Your credible source is morning joe? C'mon!! Talk about embarrassment.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Menstrual, calling Eli Blake an idiot is hilarious.

The founder of Amazon is a liberal, he owns The Washington Post. He is changing the business model. Unfortunately he will cost millions of jobs. His store don't have check out counters. If that pattern goes ballistic in the retail industry, millions of jobs will disappear.

I really don't know how our economy can stand another collapse of jobs, like we did in manufacturing.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Sean Hannity show clip was true. I recorded the show. I died laughing.

Commonsense said...

So the question is;

If Mr. Nunes’s memo is nothing more than political hackery, they why not just release it for everybody to see.

And while you're at it, release the FISA warrants the FBI use to spy on the Trump campaign.

I doubt there is any national security concerns in those warrants but it may be embarrassing to a whole lot of people.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The clip of the Sean Hannity show was absolutely unaltered.

Commonsense said...

Menstrual, calling Eli Blake an idiot is hilarious.

So Eli Blake is immune from saying something idiotic?

When did that happen? The only human in the world who is supposed to be infallible is the pope and I have my doubts about that.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The memo is a personal political opinion. That does not mean that be isn't going to do his job.

The number two authority in the DOJ,said that it has highly classified information. His political views are irrelevant. We live in a country where free speech is in the FIRST amendment.

You support an investigation of the investigation. Who are they going to appoint to the investigation? Sean Hannity? Rush Limbaugh?

Commonsense said...

I really don't know how our economy can stand another collapse of jobs, like we did in manufacturing.

Manufacturing didn't die, it just got move offshore because of the oppressive tax and regulatory burdens put on companies by the Democrats.

They are now starting to come back.

Can't stop technological progress, we gave up blacksmiths, and buggy whip makers when the automobile became the personal transportation of choice but we gained auto mechanics and car salesman.

As with any change, you know what you've lost but you can't foresee the gain.

Even as you say if it is just hackery.....does not negate the fact it could be highly classified....once again, your bias blinds you from reality...nothing new there...LOL Remember when the clancy book was found to include classified data???? Rather embarrassing though the Navy admitted it, they never provided what was the classified section....

commie said...

menstral cramps posted another lie...

offshore because of the oppressive tax and regulatory burdens put on companies by the Democrats.

They went offshore because of 2 buck an hour wages....nothing else asshole....

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The FBI had credible evidence to justify request a judge to issue a warrant to investigate the Trump campaign.

You have to understand that the President sees the investigation is an existential threat to his Presidency. If he was innocent, there wouldn't be a logical reason to try and stop the investigation. You are self proclaimed stable genius. Why is Mueller scaring the President? Unless that you believe that they are a secret society within the FBI that wants to destroy Trump, your opposition to the investigation, your opposition is illogical.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

No, Manufacturing didn't die, it just got move offshore because of the oppressive tax and regulatory burdens put on companies by the Democrats. .

Americans making $15.00 per hour versus $0.30 per hour can't compete.

Commonsense said...

The memo is a personal political opinion.

How do you know? You haven't read the memo, neither have I.

Which is a good reason to #releasethememo.

The number two authority in the DOJ,said that it has highly classified information.

90% if the classification has nothing to do with national security and everything to do with covering some bureaucrat's ass. And I suspect that's why the FISA warrants were classified.

You support an investigation of the investigation. Who are they going to appoint to the investigation?

The credibility of those investigations are highly questionable. I would appoint a special council from outside of Washington. For example; Pam Bondi, Florida's attorney general.

Commonsense said...

Americans making $15.00 per hour versus $0.30 per hour can't compete.

They most certainly can and will. Believe it or not labor is not the only cost consideration.

Why do you think Apple is bringing jobs back to the US (just not California).

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I'm going to devastate this.

90% if the classification has nothing to do with national security and everything to do with covering some bureaucrat's ass. And I suspect that's why the FISA warrants were classified.

It is strictly your opinion. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

You obviously the Secret Society is out to get him.

Grow up.

Commonsense said...

The FBI had credible evidence to justify request a judge to issue a warrant to investigate the Trump campaign.

Then it should be public like every other warrant so we can see whether the government is engaging in a legitimate investigation or political spying under the guise of an investigation.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Apple needs employees with a high level of education. California has a huge number of highly skilled and educated people. Thanks to Jerry Brown and the Democratic legislation.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Have you read how difficult it is to get a FISA warrant?

You obviously believe that it was politically motivated.

Bonkers

Commonsense said...

It is strictly your opinion.

It's not just an opinion there are studies to back it up.

You obviously the Secret Society is out to get him.

As the man said, there's a kernel of truth in every joke and it's significant that two FBI agents felt free enough to joke about it on government issued cell phones.

To read the postings of the libs here nothing has changed, the jobs are just returning.

Seems to me it is a pile of Horseshit, just like everything that loser publishes....

. And I suspect that's why the FISA warrants were classified.

And again you know squats....All fisa variants are classified!!! PERIOD Amazing how you were such an expert of Hillaries classified data and now you want damaging info to be released...Too stupid for even you,.,,,,

so... evidence? they had none. desire? well yes, skeets and cankles wanted it done so it was done. just one problem - she didn't win, which is what was required for this entire shitshow to quietly go away never to be spoken of again.

If the FISA warrants were based on that dossier, then it definitely was political spying.

And it's a clear case abuse of power when an administrator uses the power of the government to affect the outcome of an election.

FISA warrants are practically rubber stamped. In fact it's extraordinary news when one is actually refused.

Trump called it "fake news", so when you say "old news" do you really mean "old fake news"? And if it was already hashed out, do you mean that it was debunked at that time and dredged up now, was it declared "fake news" then and therefore "fake news" now?

From what I can tell, most people believed then, and now, that Trump DID want to fire Mueller, and was told by his advisers that it was a bad idea, and didn't believe Trump then that it was "fake news." Most people don't believe now that it was, or is, "fake news" and accept that Trump was, and is, simply lying. Is that what you mean by "rehashed old news"?

I also don't recall (and therefore it is unlikely) that it was reported that Trump actually tried to fire Mueller, was refused, and backed down. That is a new element in this news, and probably a pretty important one IMO.
