Interesting Statistic...

I  have read a couple of articles recently that suggest a very compelling and interesting statistic. According to these sources (and there appears to be multiple sources that confirm this), the vast majority of our recent serial killers grew up in broken homes.

Specifically, the claim is that 26 of the 27 deadliest killers grew up fatherless.

So perhaps guns are not to blame for mass shootings. Perhaps it's not actually testosterone or something else associated with males that tend to lead them off the edge. Perhaps there is a lack of a male father figure to provide guidance?

Certainly, you are not going to convince anyone on the left that mass shootings are tied to single parenting, the normalization of divorce, the promotion of non-traditional family structure, or anything that could otherwise be seen as an insult to what is otherwise deemed as cultural improvements from a liberal social sense.

But at the end of the day, your chances of raising a successful child, who graduates from high school, goes to post secondary school, stays out of jail, becomes employed, and goes on to marry and start their own family can be greatly improved by keeping both the mother and father involved.

Oh, and apparently it also helps if you don't want your child to end up as a mass murderer.

this is pretty much standard procedure for liberalism and it's consequences. they launch a bunch of idiotic policies to make them feel good and perhaps assuage their guilt, and they leave in their wake a path of destruction, ruin, and despair. look at any city that's been under exclusive liberal management for any significant period of time (detroit, baltimore, philadelphia, chicago) poverty is rampant, crime is off the charts, and the place looks like a fucking war zone.

the same goes for the destruction of the nuclear family. the era of 'free love' coupled with the 'great society' and all it's free shit has led us to where we are today.

and deep down inside liberals who are honest with themselves probably realize the error of their ways. but rather than admit it to anyone other than themselves they seek out a convenient scapegoat. and this time it's the NRA.

what a liberal lacks in hypocrisy they make up for in dishonesty.

Shooting survivor's father admits email changes in CNN spat

Associated Press

The father of a Florida shooting survivor acknowledged Tuesday he omitted words in an email he sent media outlets accusing CNN of using scripted remarks at a town hall on guns and school safety.

Dozens of conservative websites called the network's Feb. 21 town hall forum "scripted" after Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School junior Colton Haab skipped the event and said the network had told him what question to ask. The websites call it proof the forum was slanted against gun rights. President Donald Trump tweeted about it on Friday, saying "Just like so much of CNN, Fake News!"

CNN countered with a release of email exchanges between producer Carrie Stevenson, Colton Haab and his father Glenn and accused Glenn Haab of deliberately altering email sent to Fox News and the Huffington Post.

"It is unfortunate that an effort to discredit CNN and the town hall with doctored emails has taken any attention away from the purpose of the event," the network said in a statement.

Glenn Haab told The Associated Press he omitted some words from the email but said he didn't do it on purpose.
"There was nothing malicious behind it," he said.

In one exchange, 17-year-old Colton Haab proposes several questions to ask at the town hall, including one on whether to arm teachers. His father, a Republican gun owner, later emailed Stevenson a four-page document with a roughly 700-word speech and a series of questions he said Colton wanted to ask.

Stevenson told the father the additional language he proposed was "way too long" and Colton would need to stick to the question "that he submitted."

The words "that he submitted" were left off the email sent to Fox News and Huffington Post.

CNN said Stevenson had discussed which one of Colton's several questions to ask at the forum and they mutually agreed on one using his own words and a statement he made during another television appearance.

Dick's To Stop Selling Assault-Style Rifles, Pushes For Gun Control
9:35 AM ET

Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) announced Wednesday that it would stop selling assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines in its stores and pushed for gun control measures from Congress, the strongest stance yet from a company in the wake of the Parkland shooting earlier this month.

The sporting goods company also said it won't sell guns to anyone under 21, regardless of state laws that allow gun sales to 18-year-olds.

Dick's is the latest company to take action after the killing of 17 people at the Florida school.

Delta Air Lines (DAL), rental car firm Hertz (HTZ), and the insurer MetLife (MET)  cut ties with the National Rifle Association amid a backlash for offering members discounts. United Airlines (UAL) said it will no longer offer a discounted rate to the NRA's annual meeting.

Yet despite the growing pressure, FedEx (FDX) said it will continue to honor its discount for NRA members.

Dick's shares rose 1.3% to 32.22 as regular began trading on the stock market today.

Dick's said its policy change on weapons was directly related to the Parkland shooting.

In a press release, Dick's CEO Edward Stack said the company sold the Parkland shooter a weapon in November. While it wasn't the gun used in the school shooting on Feb. 14, Stack said that it could have been and "the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens."

"Thoughts and prayers are not enough."

In 2015,  Walmart (WMT) stopped selling high-powered rifles in its U.S. stores, but said the decision was based on lower demand, not in response to a mass shooting.

Remember How Trump Hit Clinton Over Classified Info?

First Read: “If there was one issue Donald Trump campaigned on more aggressively than the others in 2016, it was the importance of handling classified information — when it came to Hillary Clinton’s private email account and server… Why is this stroll down memory lane important?

"Because yesterday, we learned that White House senior adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner — who had access to highly classified information and was even viewing the Presidential Daily Brief — lost his top-security clearance.

“We’ve seen the Trump White House engage in plenty of hypocrisy over the past year — the vows to clean up the ‘swamp,’ the promises that wealthy Americans wouldn’t benefit under the tax law — but its carelessness about who is seeing classified information might be the biggest hypocrisy of all.

“And regarding that Washington Post report about how foreign governments have discussed how they can manipulate Kushner, no one can survive a story like that — unless you’re the president’s son-in-law.”

DICK'S, MAJOR GUN RETAILER, WILL STOP SELLING ASSAULT-STYLE RIFLES

One of the nation's largest sports retailers, Dick's Sporting Goods, said Wednesday morning it was immediately ending the selling of all assault-style rifles in its stores.

The retailer also said that it would no longer sell high-capacity magazines and that it would not sell any gun to anyone under 21 years of age, regardless of local laws.

The announcement, made two weeks after the school shooting in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 students and staff members, is one of the strongest stances taken by corporate America in the national gun debate. It also carries symbolic weight, coming from a prominent national gunseller.

Late last week, after coming under attack on social media for their ties to the National Rifle Association, a number of major companies, including Hertz car rental, MetLife insurance and Delta Air Lines, publicly ended those relationships, issuing brief, carefully phrased statements.

But Edward Stack, the 63-year-old chief executive of Dick’s whose father founded the store in 1948, is deliberately steering his company directly into the storm, making clear that the company’s new policy was a direct response to the Florida shooting.

“When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset,” Mr. Stack said in an interview Tuesday evening. “We love these kids and their rallying cry, ‘enough is enough.’ It got to us.”

He added, “We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation.”

Mr. Stack said he hoped that conversation would include politicians. As part of its stance, Dick’s is calling on elected officials to enact what it called “common sense gun reform’’ by passing laws to raise the minimum age to purchase guns to 21, to ban assault-type weapons and so-called bump stocks, and to conduct broader universal background checks that include mental-health information and previous interactions with law enforcement.

Mr. Stack said the retailer began scouring its purchase records shortly after the identity of the suspected Parkland shooter, Nikolas Cruz, became known. The company soon discovered it had legally sold a gun to Mr. Cruz in November, though it was not the gun or type of gun used in the school shooting.

“But it came to us that we could have been a part of this story,’’ he said. “We said, ‘We don’t want to be a part of this any longer,’” said Mr. Stack.

That decision raised rounds of discussions with top executives inside the company as well as the directors, all of whom backed the decision to take a stance, said Mr. Stack.

As of Wednesday morning, the company said all AR-15s and other semiautomatic rifles would be removed from its stores and websites.

pany.

Amening again, James said...

Mr. Stack said Dick’s remained a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and will continue to sell a variety of sport and hunting firearms. Although he has never been a member of the N.R.A., Mr. Stack said he is, in fact, a gun owner and enjoys trapshooting clay targets.

But when it comes to selling guns to individuals under 21 years of age or stocking assault-style rifles, Mr. Stack said his company was done. “We don’t want to be a part of a mass shooting,” he said.

This is not the first time Dick’s has made changes in response to a school massacre. In 2012, after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Dick’s removed assault-style rifles from its main retail stores. But a few months later, the company began carrying the firearms at its outdoor and hunting retail chain, Field & Stream.

This time, Mr. Stack said, the changes will be permanent.

Dick’s planned to inform its employees of the new policy in an internal note Wednesday morning, shortly after Mr. Stack appeared on “Good Morning America” to discuss the decision.

Dick’s is not the first retailer to stop selling the semiautomatic guns. In 2015, Walmart said that it would no longer sell high-powered rifles in its stores in the United States. But Walmart sidestepped any controversy involving gun politics, attributing its decision to lower customer demand for the military-style rifles.

It is unclear what financial impact the decision will have on Dick’s business. Neither Dick’s nor its competitor, Cabela’s, now owned by Bass Pro Shops, have broken out firearm sales in their financial reports. But last August, Dick’s shares plummeted after it said weak results from its hunting segment resulted in its missing Wall Street’s second-quarter earnings estimates.

Over all, firearm sales for retailers and gun manufacturers have slumped since Donald J. Trump was elected president, as fears of stricter gun regulation receded. Firearm sales data for the United States is not readily available, but background checks tumbled more than 8 percent last year, the largest fall since the F.B.I. began keeping track in 1998.

Mr. Stack said he and his company expected there would be mixed response — including fallout — to its new policy.
“The whole hunting business is an important part of our business, and we know there is going to be backlash on this,” said Mr. Stack. “But we’re willing to accept that.”

He added, “If the kids in Parkland are being brave enough to stand up and do this, we can be brave enough to stand up with them.”

quite the piece of shit if you ask me.

commie said...

Since Dick's Sports haven't really sold the AR-15 for the last six years what is the big news James?

And you got that patently wrong information from where, asshole???????

Commonsense said...

One that will get Dick's Sports is their arbitrary decision to sell guns only to 21 year old and above.

Since the age of majority is 18 (and there's no state restricting sales to 21 and above) then the policy is illegal age discrimination.

Even states like Florida who raise the age to 21 years may have a constitution issue.

There is no right to drink but there is a right to keep and bear arms. And you cannot deny that right to any adult without due process.

And for voting purposes the country recognizes people age 18 as adults. In most states the age of majority is 18.

Now I have no problem rolling back the age of majority to 21 but you will have to repeal the 26th amendment.

commie said...

Rat hole supports disingenuously that...

they'll end the sale of ALL guns and even hunting licenses.

Sure....an outdoor store stops selling outdoor stuff....brilliantly stupid...

The events since the Parkland shooting have convinced me that we need to change the Constitution to eliminate an ill-considered amendment that has done more harm than good. We need to repeal the 26th Amendment and raise the voting age back to 21.

Read the article carefully and you can easily see why this is big news.

The largest retailer of guns, which never stopped selling semi's in all its stores, has taken a reasonable stance with regard to gun sales, the kind of stance which anybody with any common sense knows all politicians should be taking, if they care for the lives of our children and our people, rather than the blood money the IRA will offer them.

That, in conjunction with young people rising up to demand action and scheduling national "sit outs" from schools to emphasize how crucial it is that we get sane gun laws -- all of that is VERY important.

Just last night I was at a meeting where we discussed one such demonstration that will be held here locally as well as nationally, and I plan to be present wearing my pastor's robe to emphasize where I come from on this issue.

Marc A. Thiessen:

"A few weeks before the school shooting in Parkland, FL, Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX) invited a special guest to attend the State of the Union address: Stephen Willeford, the hero who just months earlier had stopped a mass shooter at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX. ... Here's something ... you need to know about Willeford. First, he is a longtime National Rifle Association instructor; it was his NRA training that allowed him to subdue the shooter. Second, the weapon he used to stop the killing spree in Sutherland Springs was an AR-15 — the very weapon gun-control advocates now want to ban. Without an AR-15, he says, he might not have stopped the killer. ... Because of his weapon, his training and his courage, countless lives were probably saved. They could have used a Stephen Willeford in Parkland. ... We all want to keep guns out of the hands of mentally unstable people such as Nikolas Cruz. But we should all want to keep guns in the hands of responsible citizens such as Stephen Willeford. That's not the case today. Willeford deserves a medal, not a boycott. If corporate America can't figure that out and continues capitulating to the NRA boycott movement, maybe it is time for gun owners to boycott them."

Consumers: Thumbs Down On Corporations Who Cut Ties With The NRA

At what price does Twitter fame come? Corporate brands that offered virtue signaling to online mobs might discover that it’s more expensive than they thought. A new Morning Consult survey shows that every major brand that disaffiliated themselves from the NRA has suffered overall damage to their standing with consumers:

After the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting, several prominent companies ended their businesses relationships with the National Rifle Association — and some are facing backlash in public opinion, according to a new poll.

A Morning Consult survey of 2,201 U.S. adults conducted Feb. 23-25 found increases in negative views of businesses that severed ties with the NRA after consumers learned of them. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.

MetLife Inc., the insurance giant that ended a discount for NRA members last week, had a 45 percent favorable rating, compared to a 12 percent unfavorable rating, before survey participants were informed of that move. After learning of it, respondents with an unfavorable view of the company doubled to 24 percent, while its favorability rating was unchanged.

More evidence, we have known each other for probably 16 years, that CH will never admit being wrong. The father of the teenager has admitted that he edited the email between him and CNN, that completely refutes his post allegations against CNN.

Then, there is: Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee, led by Chairman Devin Nunes, have alleged that the FBI and Justice Department were biased against Trump in their handling of the probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential campaign. A memo that the Republican lawmakers released on Feb. 2 asserts that officials relied primarily on an unverified dossier prepared by former British spy Christopher Steele to obtain a surveillance warrant on Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser on Trump’s campaign. The dossier was largely funded by Clinton’s campaign and Democrats.

Democratic members of the House Intelligence Committee, led by their top-ranking member, Adam Schiff, disputed the claims in their own memo, released in redacted form on Saturday.

Democrats say the Steele dossier wasn’t part of the FBI’s decision to open its counterintelligence investigation, which began in July 2016, well before the bureau received the dossier in September of that the year. While the dossier was cited in the FBI’s initial FISA warrant application in October 2016, the bureau “cited multiple sources to support the case for surveilling Page” and made only “narrow use” of information from Steele’s sources, according to the Democratic memo.

Page had been on the FBI’s radar for many years and a Russian intelligence officer targeted him for recruitment, according to the Democratic memo. The Page warrant was also renewed three times -- in January 2017, April 2017 and June 2017 -- which requires evidence that the surveillance was bearing fruit.

Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity set the record straight Tuesday night about segments on their programs last week, in which Parkland, FL shooting survivor Colton Haab and father Glenn claimed CNN tried to script the teen’s question for that network’s town hall on school shootings.

RELATED
Father Of Florida Shooting Survivor Admits To Altering Email Exchange With CNN
Glenn Haab today acknowledged he omitted some words from an email he got from a CNN producer that he had forwarded to news outlets. The removal of those words made it sounds as if CNN had scripted a question for Colton. Glenn Haab told the Associated Press the deletion of the words was accidental. The Haabs had sent the altered CNN email to various news outlets, including FNC.

“[Colton] said the network tried to script his question. Both he and his father said they had emails to prove that. Told the entire media,” Hannity said on his Tuesday night program. “Tonight Glenn Haab told the AP that he omitted some words from the email; he says he did not do it on purpose. Therefore what Haab told all news outlets last week was inaccurate. Our job I always to strive for the truth, and we wanted to correct the record.”

Carlson said FNC had contacted CNN last week to verify Haab’s assertion and comment. CNN, Carlson said, sent FNC emails that did not match what the Haabs had given FNC. Contacted to discuss the inconsistency, the Haabs had told FNC “they were being slandered by CNN,” Carlson said.

Now that the family has acknowledged the removal of words in a CNN email, Carlson said, “There is no evidence, as of right now, that CNN tried to give Colton Haab a scripted question.”

North Pole temperatures appeared to reach the melting point of 32 degrees Sunday, a surprising high that exceeds the norm for this time of year by more than 50 degrees, according to researchers.

The Feb. 25 spike stemmed from a large storm that tracked north along the east coast of Greenland, climate scientist Robert Graham of the Norwegian Polar Institute told ABC News today via email.

The storm created strong winds that carried moist and warm air to the Arctic Ocean and North Pole region.

Narwhals more at risk to Arctic warming than polar bears

This is not an isolated incident, climate scientist Zack Labe of the University of California-Irvine tweeted Sunday, saying the relatively warm weather in the North Pole has been the norm this year.

“2018 is well exceeding previous years for the month of February,” Labe said in the tweet. “While this is one particular extreme weather event, the long-term trend in the Arctic indicates rising ocean and air temperatures.

Ch UN-Truth, and all others, this is BIG news.

The largest retailer of guns, which until now never stopped selling semi's in all its stores (see post 9:59 & 10:00 AM above), has taken a reasonable stance with regard to gun sales, the kind of stance which anybody with any common sense knows all politicians should be taking, if they care for the lives of our children and our people, rather than the blood money the IRA sends their way to make them pimp for them.

That, in conjunction with young people rising up to demand action and scheduling national "walk outs" from schools to emphasize how crucial it is that we get sane gun laws -- all of that is VERY important.

Just last night I was at a meeting where we discussed one such demonstration that will be held here locally as well as nationally, and I and other pastors, both men and women, plan to be present wearing our ecclesiastical robes to emphasize our church connections.

The walls are closing in, closing in, closing in on Trump, Pastor James said...

Last week, Trump told reporters he would let Kelly decide what to do about his son-in-law's clearance but stressed that Kushner had done an "outstanding job." The comment was seen by many in Washington as a broad hint to Kelly that the President wanted Kushner kept in the loop.

Now any attempt by Trump to contradict Kelly's move would shatter the chief of staff's authority and make his position all but impossible. But if Kelly prevails, his decision on Kushner will be regarded as a gutsy political victory and would undercut speculation he cannot last much longer in the White House.

Signs that Mueller is looking into Trump's finances meanwhile add a layer of intensity to the drama surrounding his investigation.

The President has previously warned that he would not tolerate the special counsel seeking such information, so speculation about whether Trump will try to fire Mueller will be revived.

While there is no indication so far of any wrongdoing by Trump or collusion with a Russian election meddling effort, the report again poses the question of whether his past business dealings could have been a target for any Russian attempt to compromise him.

Any sense on the part of the President that the walls are closing in will not have been helped by Tuesday's testimony to a House committee by Hope Hicks, his communications director and close campaign aide.

CNN's Manu Raju reported that Hicks testified that she has sometimes had to tell white lies for the President, but had not lied about anything substantive.

2012:

Amidst the political fallout surrounding the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, one chain of sporting goods stores is suspending sale of certain types of rifles. Dick’s Sporting Goods, which has branches all over the United States, told the media that it has removed all weapons from the shelves of stores near Newtown, and that it would be removing certain specified weapons from shelves across the country. “We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy,” the chain told the press.

This suspension of sales included anything considered a modern sporting rifle, such as the Colt-AR15 and other semi-automatic rifles.

So I guess the next time we have a school shooting, Dicks will suspend the sale of the same item again and we get to watch you cut and paste the same article 10 different times.

CH, how many times has the President did 180° changed his mind on major issues once his base disagreement was on Fox And Friends???

Immensely grateful for a brave CEO, James again said...

Here it is again, since Ch Un-Truth has obvious reading difficulties:
_______
Edward Stack, the 63-year-old chief executive of Dick’s whose father founded the store in 1948, is deliberately steering his company directly into the storm, making clear that the company’s new policy was a direct response to the Florida shooting.

Rogers told lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday that he would require additional authorization from Trump to take additional steps to secure voting systems.

"I need a policy decision that indicates there is specific direction to do that," Rogers said. "The president ultimately would make this decision in accordance with a recommendation from the secretary of Defense."

Democrats on the Senate Armed Services Committee and elsewhere seized on Rogers' testimony, accusing the Trump administration of ignoring the threat posed by Russian hackers.
"Essentially, we have not taken on the Russians yet," Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), the committee's ranking member, said.

"They haven't paid a price, at least, that has significantly changed their behavior," Rogers told the panel.

CNN political analyst and Democratic strategist Paul Begala accused Trump of being a "wuss" in responding to Russia.

"Why is Donald Trump, a man so tough he says he would rush into a school shooting unarmed, why is he such a wuss and a wimp about Russia?" Begala said on "Anderson Cooper 360."

"What do the Russians have on him? Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's just there's something about Mr. Putin that our president just worships and adores. But the evidence, the direct evidence is just catastrophic for him," he said.

She had watched gunfire explode through her Honors English class that Feb. 14 afternoon as she and her classmates worked on an essay about hardship and education. Three students from her class alone were killed. She had heard their last breaths, crawled through glass and put pressure on a wounded student’s torso before escaping through the school parking lot and running as fast as she could to reach her home in a subdivision lined by coconut palms.

Now, like many other Stoneman Douglas High students, Brooke just wanted to return to a routine. She wanted to see her friends and reclaim her school, which is ringed by police officers and garlanded by fading memorial flowers.
She was nervous, and she worried she would cry when she walked through the courtyard where she would sometimes eat lunch with Alaina Petty, who was killed in her classroom. Others said they dreaded confronting so many empty seats, or seeing the art project that a slain friend would never finish.

“I just hope she’s going to be O.K. being there all day,” Brooke’s mother, Denise, said as she made coffee, toast and bacon for breakfast. “That it’s not traumatic to be there.”

But first, Brooke needed her mother to help unknot a pair of gray Nikes.
“I have no strength,” she said as she walked into the kitchen, smiling and still wearing the same burgundy Stoneman Douglas shirt from the day before.

It was the first day of school at Stoneman Douglas High for students after a mass shooting there on Feb. 14 left 17 dead.

The bloodied shoes that Brooke had worn the day of the shooting had been taken away as evidence. Her favorite sweater was also seized. Her black backpack now has a bullet hole in the bottom, from one of the AR-15 rifle rounds that filled her English class with a choking haze and killed Alex Schacter, Alyssa Alhadeff and Alaina before her eyes there in room 1216.

Page was already on the FBI’s radar after being targeted in 2013 for recruitment as an intelligence source by Russian spies in a previous case.

Earlier this month, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee released a memo - drafted by Republican staffers – accusing the FBI and Justice Department of “abuses” by relying on a controversial and unverified “dossier” about Trump to seek surveillance of Page.

Last week, Democrats issued their own memo, insisting the surveillance of Page was appropriate and based on multiple streams of intelligence.

Nevertheless, Republicans have been calling on Sessions to investigate the matter.

On Tuesday, Sessions confirmed that he had referred the issue to the Justice Department’s inspector general.

Roger -

You do realize that Page was cooperating with the FBI in 2013, as the Russians were attempting to recruit Americans. He was not someone caught by the FBI doing anything. He was actually working to help gather information from the Russians (who dismissed him as having low intelligence).

Moreover, as pointed out by Andrew McCarthy, even if he "had" been targeted for recruitment prior, that is not part of the criteria that is generally used to put someone under surveillance a second time. Especially when it was well known that he was not recruited, cooperated with the FBI, and was not considered a future target for the Russians.

We have had nearly two years and four investigations into "Russian collusion" that still has no tangible evidence uncovered.

How can you possibly complain (unless you are drunk, stupid, or crazy) about investigating whether or not our FBI violated an American's civil liberties through the misuse of FICA courts? At least there is ample evidence to follow up on (unlike Trump collusion).

Are we only allowed to investigate what "YOU" believe should be investigated?

After Dick’s, Only One Major Retailer Is Still Selling Semi-Automatic Assault Rifles

Dick's Sporting Goods Will No Longer Sell Assault-Style Rifles

By Brad Tuttle Updated: February 28, 2018 3:44 PM ET

Dick’s Sporting Goods announced on Wednesday that it would stop selling assault-style rifles in all of its stores, a direct reaction to the February 14 high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead.

“When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset,” CEO Edward Stack said.

The move leaves just one major retailer standing alone in continuing to sell the semi-automatic assault rifles commonly used in mass shootings: Bass Pro Shops, which now includes Cabela’s, a competitor it purchased last year.

Bass Pro Shops was named by Forbes as one of America’s largest privately-owned companies. There are a total of over 160 Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops retail stores in the U.S. and Canada.

Both stores also sell high-capacity magazines, which allow shooters to fire a higher number of rounds without needing to reload.

Bass Pro Shops did not immediately return a request for comment.

The weapons also remain available for sale at gun shows and independent gun shops around the country.

Many large companies have changed their policies around guns lately, as protesters push for tougher regulations. Some have cut ties with the National Rifle Assocation, ending discount programs for NRA members.

Dick’s announced that all of its stores would immediately stop selling assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines, and that it would no longer sell any guns whatsoever to customers who are under the age of 21.

While stating that “we support and respect the Second Amendment,” Dick’s also urged Congress to take action and called for a national ban on assault-style firearms, a ban on high-capacity magazines and bump stocks, and a minimum age of 21 for all firearms sales.

“Thoughts and prayers aren’t enough,” a Dick’s press release said.

Why am I not surprised another Obama failure led to the deaths of 14 children and 3 adults.

Behind Cruz's Rampage: Obama's School-Leniency Policy

Despite committing a string of arrestable offenses on campus before the Florida school shooting, Nikolas Cruz was able to escape the attention of law enforcement, pass a background check and purchase the weapon he used to slaughter 14 fellow students and three adults because of Obama administration efforts to make school discipline more lenient.

Documents reviewed by RealClearInvestigations and interviews show that his school district in Florida’s Broward County was in the vanguard of a strategy, adopted by more than 50 other major school districts nationwide, allowing thousands of troubled, often violent, students to commit crimes without legal consequence. The aim was slowing the "school-to-prison pipeline."

“He had a clean record, so alarm bells didn’t go off when they looked him up in the system,” veteran FBI agent Michael Biasello told RCI. “He probably wouldn’t have been able to buy the murder weapon if the school had referred him to law enforcement."
