School walk out?

For the past week or so, we have been sent notifications, phone messages, emails, etc... about a 17 minute walk out that was taking place at the local High School yesterday. This was part of the national walk out that was organized after the Florida School shootings.

The notices were clear that the school was supportive of anyone who wanted to take part. Other than actually being marked absent, there would be no repercussions. There was sort of an understanding with the teachers that no assignments or tests would be presented during this particular time.

Anyways, when the time came for the walkout, my son (who is a Freshman) said three people in his class participated. All in all, it was estimated that between a hundred and a hundred and fifty students went to the designated area where the walkout/rally/protest or whatever would take place.

Now, obviously I live in a suburban conservative area here in Minnesota. But I certainly expected a much larger amount of students to take part, for no other reason than to get out of school for seventeen minutes. Considering our High School has almost two thousand students, over ninety percent of them chose to stay in class. From what I read in the local newspapers, the participation rate here in the metro area was anywhere from about nine hundred students in one Minneapolis school, to another suburban school that reported only about a dozen participants.

I guess we don't even have political unity at the High School level.

I guess your opinion also holds true for the public in general....The kids have a message and many thousands marched throughout the country. Just because in your white bread district was short on participants, does not mean a thing other than your students are not involved today..... Another example of CH applying a micro sample to the universe....typical of non thinking trumpites rationalizing what they want rather than reality....My local high schools had hundreds of participants....maybe it was warmer here that led to kids coming out....A very impressive display....

No CH, I said you applying your white bread school district to the universe is bullshit.....Nice try though.. LOL at you again...

I also suggested that Mpls North (about 80% black) had about 50 people attend the rally... so it has nothing to do with race. In fact the one school that had about 900 (out of about 2400 enrollment) is a fairly affluent district in east St Paul that is likely about 90% white.

Be sure to tell all the kids who participated that they were brainwashed by adults. They will love that.

US hits Russians with sanctions for election meddling, cyber attacks
10:50AM
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United State slapped sanctions on 19 Russian individuals and five groups, including Moscow's intelligence services, for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and malicious cyber attacks, the Treasury Department said on Thursday.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said there would be additional sanctions against Russian government officials and oligarchs "for their destabilizing activities." Mnuchin did not give a time frame for those sanctions, which he said would sever the individuals' access to the U.S. financial system.

"The administration is confronting and countering malign Russian cyber activity, including their attempted interference in U.S. elections, destructive cyber-attacks, and intrusions targeting critical infrastructure," Mnuchin said in a statement.

U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential campaign using hacking and propaganda, an effort that eventually included attempting to tilt the race in President Donald Trump's favor. Russia denies interfering in the election.

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Feb. 16 brought charges against 13 Russian individuals and three Russian companies, accusing them of participating in a criminal and espionage conspiracy to tamper in the 2016 campaign. The indictment said Russians adopted false online personas to push divisive messages, traveled to the United States to collect intelligence and staged political rallies while posing as Americans.

Those targeted by the new sanctions include the Russian nationals and entities charged by Mueller.

The new sanctions also include Russian intelligence services, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), and six individuals working on behalf of the GRU.

Your original post and conclusion suggested that your son provided the all your input. Then you doubled your sample to 2 schools with the MPLS post, still a statistically irrelevant sample.... Then you added another data point showing a much larger rally in a white bread district....My white bread comment was directed at your son's school l! My original comment still stands as you keep moving the goal posts on what you thought you said and applying a conclusion from a sample of 3 still does not prove shit...... Keep defending your own stupid post and I will keep laughing at you.... You are like loretta are a loser....In Florida....both HS in my area are very diversified and had hundreds of participants which only proves a lot of kids are involved....that is the only conclusion I can make, unlike you who said...I guess we don't even have political unity at the High School level... seems to me there is....LOL

The viral video below was posted on Facebook by Kenny McDonald:

Kids at our school today walked out, in honor of the 17 students killed in Florida. Students held signs that said, “Arm our teachers” they had two signs. A student walked out without saying a word peacefully put up his sign which said “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” he was escorted off the property by our principal and threatened to be put into a police car. This violates the first amendment and makes me sick that they can do whatever they want. Please make this go viral. Location: New Prague High school, Minnesota.

Rocklin High School in Rocklin, California, placed a teacher on paid administrative leave after she let students discuss the politics of the National School Walkout, which took place around the country yesterday morning.

Julianne Benzel told CBS13 that she suspects she got in trouble for suggesting that schools administrators who condoned the student walkout might be practicing a double standard.

"And so I just kind of used the example which I know it's really controversial, but I know it was the best example I thought of at the time," said Benzel. "[If] a group of students nationwide, or even locally, decided 'I want to walk out of school for 17 minutes' and go in the quad area and protest abortion, would that be allowed by our administration?"

Her students saw her point, and the discussion—which took place last week—was fruitful, according to Benzel. But on Wednesday, the teacher received a call that she had been placed on leave.

Obama policy linked to Parkland Shooting

Documents reviewed by RealClearInvestigations and interviews show that his school district in Florida’s Broward County was in the vanguard of a strategy, adopted by more than 50 other major school districts nationwide, allowing thousands of troubled, often violent, students to commit crimes without legal consequence. The aim was to slow the "school-to-prison pipeline."

“He had a clean record, so alarm bells didn’t go off when they looked him up in the system,” veteran FBI agent Michael Biasello told RCI. “He probably wouldn’t have been able to buy the murder weapon if the school had referred him to law enforcement."

Disclosures about the strategy add a central new element to the Parkland shooting story: It's not just one of official failings at many levels and of America's deep divide over guns, but also one of deliberate federal policy gone awry.

In 2013, the year before Cruz entered high school, the Broward County school system rewrote its discipline policy to make it much more difficult for administrators to suspend or expel problem students, or for campus police to arrest them for misdemeanors– including some of the crimes Cruz allegedly committed in the years and months leading up to the deadly Feb. 14 shooting at his Fort Lauderdale-area school.

The new policy resulted from an Obama administration effort begun in 2011 to keep students in school and improve racial outcomes (timeline here), and came against a backdrop of other efforts to rein in perceived excesses in "zero tolerance" discipline policies, including in Florida.

Broward school Superintendent Robert W. Runcie – a Chicagoan and Harvard graduate with close ties to President Obama and his Education Department – signed an agreement with the county sheriff and other local jurisdictions to trade cops for counseling. Students charged with various misdemeanors, including assault, would now be disciplined through participation in “healing circles,” obstacle courses and other “self-esteem building” exercises.

Asserting that minority students, in particular, were treated unfairly by traditional approaches to school discipline, Runcie’s goal was to slash arrests and ensure that students, no matter how delinquent, graduated without criminal records.

The achievement gap "becomes intensified in the school-to-prison pipeline, where black males are disproportionately represented,” he said at the time. “We’re not going to continue to arrest our kids,” he added. “Once you have an arrest record, it becomes difficult to get scholarships, get a job, or go into the military."

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel backed Runcie’s plan to diminish the authority of police in responding to campus crime. A November 2013 video shows him signing the district’s 16-page "collaborative agreement on school discipline,” which lists more than a dozen misdemeanors that can no longer be reported to police, along with five steps police must “exhaust” before even considering placing a student under arrest.

In just a few years, ethnically diverse Broward went from leading the state of Florida in student arrests to boasting one of its lowest school-related incarceration rates. Out-of-school suspensions and expulsions also plummeted."
...
"Broward County adopted a lenient disciplinary policy similar to those adopted by many other districts under pressure from the Obama administration to reduce racial ‘disparities’ in suspensions and expulsions,”

excerpt
In 1994, Trump went to a party with Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire who was a notorious registered sex offender, and raped a 13-year-old girl that night in what was a "savage sexual attack," according to a lawsuit filed in June 2016 by "Jane Doe." The account was corroborated by a witness in the suit, who claimed to have watched as the child performed various sexual acts on Trump and Epstein even after the two were advised she was a minor.

"Immediately following this rape Defendant Trump threatened me that, were I ever to reveal any of the details of Defendant Trump’s sexual and physical abuse of me, my family and I would be physically harmed if not killed," Jane Doe wrote in the lawsuit, filed in New York.

The lawsuit was dropped in November 2016, just four days before the election, with Jane Doe's attorneys citing "numerous threats" against her.
