I'm not kidding, they commissioned, designed and acquired junk mail scanning and sorting equipment as the equipment modernization. Changed procedures to prioritize junk mail. Raised package rates on everyone else to pay for it. Some political appointee in the upper reaches of policy creation decided that junk mail was the future of the USPS.
Yeah, some large shippers negotiated their own rates, and reciprocal agreements with China Post were the worst offenders. They put USA small businesses at a big disadvantage, and I'm sure that Amazon got a piece of that as well. BUT, looking at Amazon for this is just scapegoating. If you really want to fix it, it's going to take a big investment in modernizing the USPS equipment, in revamping their procedures, and reviewing and reversing a lot of sweetheart deals. Amazon may be the biggest shipper now, but you're not getting to the root of the problem there.

"Although the Department of Justice makes final decisions on matters like this, we are expressing to Justice our view that no charges are appropriate in this case," Comey said Tuesday.
