But here is the rub:
- The Freidman investigation has nothing to do with Mueller.
- Freidman is a Democrat, who was a large fundraiser for Bill de Blasio.
- His ties to Cohen are that he sells his Taxi medallions to Cohen's Taxi fleet.
- Freidman has no known ties to Trump or the Trump organization.
- Freidman has previously legal troubles, paying over a million dollars in restitution and fines in 2013 for swindling Taxi drivers.
- Freidman also paid another quarter million in a lawsuit over the same issue.
- Friedman was investigated and accused of forging his wife's signature on loans he defaulted on.
- Friedman was ordered to jail in 2017 for criminal contempt of court.
The current charges (because they do actually matter) were filed nearly a year ago. They involve and larceny and tax fraud because he supposedly pocketed five million from specific fees, while obviously not reporting or paying taxes on the money. Sure, there is speculation that Michael Cohen might somehow be involved, but the "partnership" seems to be more of a business client relationship than anything else. Does anyone believe that taxi medallions and user fees are the stuff of abrupt, no knock, federal raids? At least one hopes not.
Since we don't know for sure what the US Attorney is actually investigating Cohen for, it's impossible to know whether or not any of Freidman's legal problems are tied to Cohen, or whether or not he has any information regarding the Cohen investigation. What we can be fairly certain of is that the "Taxi King" is not likely to have much information on Russian election interference, or Trump's association with it. Much to the disappointment of those rooting for the Trump downfall.

The BBC is reporting that after being kept at arms length by the White House, the President of Ukraine paid Michael Cohen at least $400,000 to arrange a meeting between the President Poroshenko and Trump.
Key detail from BBC report …
Cohen was brought in, he said, because Ukraine’s registered lobbyists and embassy in Washington DC could get Poroshenko little more than a brief photo-op with Trump. Poroshenko needed something that could be portrayed as “talks”.
This senior official’s account is as follows – Poroshenko decided to establish a back channel to Trump. The task was given to a former aide, who asked a loyal Ukrainian MP for help.
He in turn used personal contacts in a Jewish charity in New York state, Chabad of Port Washington. This eventually led to Michael Cohen, the president’s lawyer and trusted fixer. Cohen was paid $400,000.

A second source in Kiev gave the same details, except that the total paid to Mr Cohen was $600,000.
There was also support for the account from a lawyer in the US who has uncovered details of Mr Cohen's finances, Michael Avenatti. He represents a porn actress, Stormy Daniels, in legal action against President Trump.
Avenatti said that Suspicious Activity Reports filed by Mr Cohen's bank to the US Treasury showed he had received money from "Ukrainian interests".
As well as Mr Cohen, the two Ukrainians said to have opened the backchannel for their president also denied the story.
The senior intelligence official in Kiev said Mr Cohen had been helped by Felix Sater, a convicted former mobster who was once Trump's business partner. Mr Sater's lawyer, too, denied the allegations.
The Ukrainian president's office initially refused to comment but, asked by a local journalist to respond, a statement was issued calling the story a "blatant lie, slander and fake".
As was widely reported last June, Mr Poroshenko was still guessing at how much time he would have with Mr Trump even as he flew to Washington.
The White House schedule said only that Mr Poroshenko would "drop in" to the Oval Office while Mr Trump was having staff meetings.
That had been agreed through official channels. Mr Cohen's fee was for getting Mr Poroshenko more than just an embarrassingly brief few minutes of small talk and a handshake, the senior official said. But negotiations continued until the early hours of the day of the visit.
The Ukrainian side were angry, the official went on, because Mr Cohen had taken "hundreds of thousands" of dollars from them for something it seemed he could not deliver.
Right up until the last moment, the Ukrainian leader was uncertain if he would avoid humiliation.

A Freedom of Information Act request by the Baltimore Post reveals that former Obama White House officials discussed how best to exploit the Sandy Hook Elementary School attack for gun control before the victims of said attack were even buried.
The strategizing took place between Obama Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Chicago Mayor, former Obama White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel (D).
The Post published an email thread shared by Duncan and Emanuel on December 16, 2012:
At 6:57PM EST on December 16, 2012, Duncan wrote to Emanuel in a message titled “CT shootings.”
Duncan asked the Chicago mayor, “What are your thoughts?”
Five minutes later, Emanuel responded, “Go for a vote this week before it fades. Tap peoples emotion. Make it simple assault weapons.”
Duncan responded immediately, “Yup- thanks.”
“When I did brady bill and assault weapons for clinton we always made it simple. Criminals or war weapons,” Emanuel said in the email to Duncan.
“Gun show loophole?” Duncan responded. “Database? Cop-killer bullets? Too complicated?” he said.
