Not discounting it at all. In fact, I am fully recognizing it the reality that this particular debate never went away in large because it was settled by a court case (not the people).
The reality is that there is only one Justice (Thomas) on the court who has advocated the overturning of RvW. But either way, there should be no "litmus test" where one single issue determines whether a Judge sits on the USSC or not. The person who sits on the court should have a solid judicial background and should have a history of ruling by the book (not by their own personal beliefs).
When it comes to important social issues, polling has by and large suggested that people prefer those decisions to be determined: First by referendum or other voter means. Second by enacting legislation. The last and least popular manner in which people believe our social issues should be determined is the court. RvW is the ultimate proof that deciding important social issues in the courts is not really deciding them at all.
And to be clear Roger, you can believe that people should have the ultimate say in a Republic or Democracy and accept clearly that the people may not always agree with you. The fact that you actually feel as if the will of the people in a democracy should only hold if its something "you" agree with, is exactly what makes your view points on the courts in a shrinking minority.

The laws at the time determined that most potential refugees were actually held in refugee camps, or sent back to Vietnam where their applications for refugee status were considered.
We took in nearly half a million Vietnamese refugees during that time, and all of them went through a system/law called "orderly departure program".
They didn't sneak across the border, and simply asked to be released into the United States.
The United States takes in over a half million refugees and immigrants every year, legally. There is plenty of legal manners in which to achieve refugee or immigration status. Those who attempt to "jump the line" or otherwise sneak into the country are only hurting those "legal" refugees and immigrants who are willing to go through the process.
Conservatives believe that preferential treatment should be given to those who follow the laws. Apparently, Liberals have pretty much given up on the idea that laws mean anything anymore.

“The administration is threatening to undermine the economic progress it worked so hard to achieve,” Chamber President Tom Donohue said. “We should seek free and fair trade, but this is just not the way to do it.”
The chamber is using state-by-state analysis to argue that Trump is risking a global trade war.

Members of the business community are voicing their outrage at President Donald Trump's new immigration policy of separating children from their parents at the border, including a group being funded by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch.
The Libre Initiative, a nonprofit group financially backed by the Koch brothers, called on the Trump administration on Tuesday to reverse course on what's been called a zero-tolerance immigration policy, which forces children to part ways with their families if they illegally cross the border.
"The president should take immediate action to end the separation of families at the border by rescinding the 'zero tolerance' policy," Daniel Garza, president of the initiative said in statement.

It’s hard to imagine a better quick story summing up the Donald Trump administration than the one that broke Sunday night about a bill the White House was preparing to, as Jonathan Swan at Axios put it, “declare America’s abandonment of fundamental World Trade Organization rules” by giving the president authority to unilaterally break those rules.

This situation is "exactly" the same as 2010, when Elena Kagen was confirmed in August (of a midterm election year) to replace Stevens (who retired as Kennedy did at the end of the session).
Just like Kennedy wanting Trump to replace him, Stevens waited till Obama was in the White House before retiring, obviously wanting Obama (rather than Bush) to replace him.

Secondly, Trump was asked a hypothetical question. Which was if Roe V Wade was overturned and Abortion became illegal in some states, should a woman who still had an abortion be punished.
There are two answers to that question Roger:
- One would be that if Abortion became illegal, that people who broke that law would have to be punished.
- The other would be that if it is a law you don't agree with, that you should be able to break that law without consequence?
Would you seriously advocate (on a general level) that anyone who decides they disagree with a law, is allowed to break it without consequence? Is that the direction you would go with it?
This plays into the differences between crazy liberals and the rest of the country. Not discounting it at all. In fact, I am fully recognizing it the reality that this particular debate never went away in large because it was settled by a court case (not the people).
The reality is that there is only one Justice (Thomas) on the court who has advocated the overturning of RvW. But either way, there should be no "litmus test" where one single issue determines whether a Judge sits on the USSC or not. The person who sits on the court should have a solid judicial background and should have a history of ruling by the book (not by their own personal beliefs).
When it comes to important social issues, polling has by and large suggested that people prefer those decisions to be determined: First by referendum or other voter means. Second by enacting legislation. The last and least popular manner in which people believe our social issues should be determined is the court. RvW is the ultimate proof that deciding important social issues in the courts is not really deciding them at all.
And to be clear Roger, you can believe that people should have the ultimate say in a Republic or Democracy and accept clearly that the people may not always agree with you. The fact that you actually feel as if the will of the people in a democracy should only hold if its something "you" agree with, is exactly what makes your view points on the courts in a shrinking minority.

The laws at the time determined that most potential refugees were actually held in refugee camps, or sent back to Vietnam where their applications for refugee status were considered.
We took in nearly half a million Vietnamese refugees during that time, and all of them went through a system/law called "orderly departure program".
They didn't sneak across the border, and simply asked to be released into the United States.
The United States takes in over a half million refugees and immigrants every year, legally. There is plenty of legal manners in which to achieve refugee or immigration status. Those who attempt to "jump the line" or otherwise sneak into the country are only hurting those "legal" refugees and immigrants who are willing to go through the process.
Conservatives believe that preferential treatment should be given to those who follow the laws. Apparently, Liberals have pretty much given up on the idea that laws mean anything anymore.

Has the Times forgotten about Edward Snowden? Obama responded to Snowden’s stunning revelations of the National Security Agency’s vacuuming up millions of Americans’ personal data by going on the Jay Leno Show and proclaiming: “There is no spying on Americans.” But NSA’s definition of “terrorist suspect” was so ludicrously broad that it includes anyone “searching the web for suspicious stuff” (maybe including presidential lies). Obama’s verbal defenses of NSA spying collapsed like a row of houses of cards.
In early 2009, Obama visited Mexico and, in a spiel calling for the renewal of the assault weapon ban, asserted that “more than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States.” This vastly overstated the actual problem, since that statistic measured only firearms that Mexican authorities sent to the U.S. for tracing.
His administration then acted as if 90 percent was a goal, not a lie, launching a secret Fast and Furious gunwalking operation masterminded by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency, deluging Mexican drug gangs with high-powered weapons. OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Canada began imposing tariffs Sunday on $12.6 billion in U.S. goods as retaliation for the Trump administration's new taxes on steel and aluminum imported to the United States.
Some U.S. products, mostly steel and iron, face 25 percent tariffs, the same penalty the United States slapped on imported steel at the end of May. Other U.S. imports, from ketchup to pizza to dishwasher detergent, will face a 10 percent tariff at the Canadian border, the same as America's tax on imported aluminum.
Trump had enraged Canada and other U.S. allies by declaring imported steel and aluminum a threat to America's national security and therefore a legitimate target for U.S. tariffs. Canada is the United States' second-biggest trading partner in goods, just behind China.

The town is home to a food-processing plant that supplies tomato paste and other products to French's, a major competitor of Kraft Heinz. Heinz left Canada and sold its Leamington plant in 2014, after 105 years of Canadian operations.
The new Canadian tariffs, which took effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, are hitting a long list of U.S. consumer goods, including ketchup and other Kraft Heinz products.

Authorities in Colorado arrested an illegal alien Saturday who they accuse of starting a series of wildfires that destroyed over 38,000 acres of land."

Jesper Joergensen, 52, was arrested and charged with arson. The blaze he reportedly set led to a wildfire that has raged across Spring Creek in Costilla County, Colorado.
The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office reported that the suspect is not a legal U.S. citizen but could not say from what country he originated.
“The initial cause of the fire was human-caused,” the sheriff’s office reported on a Facebook announcement. “The investigation was lead by our office with the assistance of CBI, State arson investigators, CSP, and Immigration and Customs agents. Jesper Joergensen, 52, was arrested without incident by Costilla County deputies. Jesper is being held on Arson charges.”
The fire Joergensen allegedly started has burned over 38,000 acres thus far and has required the evacuation of the Fort Garland area just this weekend."
