Simpleton Democrats will lose on Abortion too...

So suddenly the fact that Justice Kennedy will be replaced by a more conservative Justice, has promoted the idea on the left that Roe v Wade will be overturned. This, according to Democrats is a sure bet loser for Republicans, because a majority of Americans do not want Roe v Wade overturned. But the truth is that there are two chances that Roe v Wade will be overturned, slim and none. And as they saying goes, slim appears to be leaving the building.

What pro-choice folks are more afraid of (and have real cause for concern) is that the courts will not overturn State laws being passed that make abortions "less accessible".  While Roe v Wade establishes that it's unconstitutional to ban abortion, the ruling does not go as far as many pro-choice people would like it to.

But this is where the liberal logic breaks down. While a majority of Americans do not want Roe v Wade overturned, that has little bearing on the tangible issues being fought in today's courts. What is happening in today's courts are things that the pro-choice crowd sees as chipping away at abortion, but ultimately are generally popular.

Bottom line: according to the latest poll from CBS news:
- 45% believe Abortion should be "generally available"
- 32% believe it should be available "under stricter limits"
- 21% believe it should be "not permitted" at all.

According to a Quinnipiac poll
- 21% say it should be "legal in all cases"
- 39% say it should be "legal in most cases"
- 22% say it should be "illegal in most cases"
- 12% say it should be "illegal in all cases"

So the political sweet spot on abortion is that it should be legal, but that there should be restrictions on when and how abortions are handled (approximately 60% according to Quinnipiac). In specific issues, the idea of a waiting period is popular, as is the idea of providing counseling to women seeking abortion. There is support for banning late term abortions, as well as support for banning certain "types" of abortion. By overwhelming numbers, people believe that minors should have parental consent.

Those are the actual issues that the USSC will eventually deal with. Liberals attempting to scare people into believing Roe v Wade is about to be overturned, will fall on mostly deaf ears. They also believe (wrongly) that Americans want no restrictions on abortions. Putting abortion front and center is a mistake. The best it can accomplish is to further rile up the already riled up people on the far left. The worst it can accomplish is to push away the majority of Americans who are perfectly happy to see abortions laws that allow for (to steal the phrase that gun control advocates use) "common sense" restrictions.

This is essentially correct. The law is going towards gradual restriction around the edges instead of an outright ban. As it gets harder and harder to deny the humanity of the baby in the womb, more and more mothers will choose life over murder.

Interesting. Could Trump actually put the Republican party into the trash with the Whigs?

Trump is going to give millions to the soybean farmers that are being devastated by the tarrifs imposed on China. The Chinese has been the major source of demand for soybeans. The deficit is already exploding and a few hundred millions to the states that have supported Trump is going to make it easier for the Republicans in the house election in November.

His personal golfing vacations have become increasingly expensive. His Tweets from the golf cart and getting less coherent than before.

Now Cavanaugh will support state laws that restrict abortion rights to the point that they will not be available except if they are expensive and almost impossible to access.

The Republicans have surrendered to a narcissistic pathological liar who has none of the core values of the party of Reagan. The evidence is here every day.

Whigs? Probably not. But the blue Wave has been gaining momentum.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions chuckled and repeated "Lock her up" after the familiar Trump campaign rally chant rang out during his speech at a conservative youth conference on Tuesday.

The chant, President Donald Trump's pejorative mantra against political rival Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election, occurred during the Turning Point USA's High School Leadership Summit in Washington.

As Sessions commended attendees for fighting for conservative values, the crowd responded with cries of "Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!"

Sessions then laughingly repeated the line.

C.H. Truth said...

That is your belief, not mine

Actually there is nothing in the bible that talks about abortion (since it really didn't exist in the BC times). There is also nothing religious about when "life starts".

Technically it's biology that states that life starts at conception. As the "Party of science" it seems odd that Democrats follow along with the idea that life begins when politicians say it begins. No abortion after 20 weeks, because that's when life starts? That argument is completely arbitrary and is a complete rejection of science.

I am all for the choice. Always have been.

But let's be honest with the argument. An abortion is the end of a human life in the earliest stages. It is certainly more humane than killing a post delivery human (that exists on it's own). But science demands that it is a life form that is being put to an unnatural end.

It's why I probably wouldn't personally push anyone in that direction. Every woman I know that has had one, has a certain amount of regret and guilt about the decision... even if they still feel it was correct one long term.

The whole "lie" argument wears thin. It's as if whenever you don't really understand a point you resort to something being a "lie".

The reality is that our society allows for abortion, but in most states it is only only allowed up till a certain point in the pregnancy. Many are currently pushing for a federal ban after 20 weeks.

Please explain to me the biological or scientific difference between aborting a life form that has existed only 6-8 weeks, versus not allowing the same act of aborting the life at say 30-35 weeks.

Who are politicians to decide that 20,22, or 24 weeks is the threshold that has to be met before these laws kicks in?

Does it not seem arbitrary to you?

commie said...

CH again falling to the right of the spectrum with asking roger

Please explain to me the biological or scientific difference between aborting a life form that has existed only 6-8 weeks, versus not

There is no scientific consensus to anything when it comes to the start of a life....It is all what the individual believes to be his or own truth...as for menstral who claims science dictates life starting at fertilization is bullshit, just like your question!!! The below is a synopsis of what science says....you are what you eat and the same holds true for your belief of a women has the right to determine what goes on in her own uterus...Once again, you want to legislate her womb....I say go fuck yourself....

Instructions for Development and Heredity are all in the Fertilised egg. The view that we are genetically determined by the combination of parental DNA has been shown to fall far short of the complete story. How the DNA is interpreted can vary greatly affected by things such as the maternal diet. Similarly some development requires certain bacteria to be present. Thirdly, and most surprisingly, the level of maternal care can determine which areas of DNA are 'methylated' which radically alters how they are interpreted. As such the view that we are 'complete but unformed' at conception is far from accurate.
The Embryo is Safe Within the Womb. Modern research shows that 30% or fewer fertilised eggs will go on to become fetuses. Many of these early miscarriages are because of abnormal numbers of chromosomes. The view that every fertilised egg is a potential human being is wrong in around 70% of cases.
There is a Moment of Fertilisation when the passive egg receives the active sperm. Again recent research has shown that the previous commonly held view that the fastest sperm races towards the egg and, bingo, we're up and running is wrong on many levels. Fertilisation is a process taking up to four days. As such there is no magic moment; rather there is a process.[citation needed]
There is consensus amongst scientists that life begins at conception. There isn't even consensus amongst scientists as to whether there's consensus. However, Scott Gilbert's paper lists embryologists who support each of the major viewpoints belying the common and oft repeated assertion that there is consensus amongst embryologists, let alone scientists.

The conclusion that human life begins at sperm-egg fusion is uncontested, objective, based on the universally accepted scientific method of distinguishing different cell types from each other and on ample scientific evidence (thousands of independent, peer-reviewed publications). Moreover, it is entirely independent of any specific ethical, moral, political, or religious view of human life or of human embryos. Indeed, this definition does not directly address the central ethical question surrounding the embryo: What value ought society place on human life at the earliest stages of development? A neutral examination of the evidence merely establishes the onset of a new human life at a scientifically well-defined “moment of conception,” a conclusion that unequivocally indicates that human embryos from the one-cell stage forward are indeed living individuals of the human species; i.e., human beings.

C.H. Truth said...

Actually Roger...

The fact of the matter is that biology declares that there is a life existing (generally recognized as at conception) within a woman's body.

If you were being honest, you would admit that abortion kills this life form by any and all objective standards. There really cannot be any argument that a growing human life form is ended by abortion.

You claim that you are the Party of Science, but then declare that an abortion is about a "woman's body" rather than the removal of another life form. It's simple political rhetoric that runs 180 degrees from what science states.

So the hypocrisy is declaring that Democrats want to follow the science, when abortion and abortion laws are purely political and ignore science.

You and I may agree on a woman's right to choose.

However, I have a much graver concern about this choice than you do, because I accept the scientific factual conclusion that human life form is terminated in the process. It's why every woman I know who has had an abortion harbors long term guilt over the action (even if they still believe it was the right thing to do)

You simply follow the political rhetoric and declare it about the woman and what she does with "her body" (as if the human life form doesn't actually exist).

None of this has anything to do with what political party is more or less in favor of abortion restrictions. The fact that it matters to you, tells me that your concern about a human life is contingent on what your Party tells you to believe.

C.H. Truth said...

Let's be clear...

We finally know what was said on that tape in which then-candidate Donald Trump and Michael Cohen reportedly discussed paying for the rights to Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal's story of an alleged affair with Trump. The story at the time belonged to the publisher of the National Enquirer, American Media Inc., and the tape provides the first apparent evidence that Trump spoke with Cohen about purchasing the rights to women's stories before the 2016 election.

(Cohen and the White House have said previously that Cohen paid porn-star Stormy Daniels hush money without Trump's knowledge. A Trump campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, also falsely denied Trump had any knowledge of AMI's deal with McDougal.)

CNN obtained audio of the call from Cohen's attorney and aired it Tuesday night. But while the tape seemed to reference McDougal's story, the conversation is brief and rather unwieldy. Below is the full transcript, with the key parts in yellow, highlighted and annotated.

TRUMP: [In background] Good. Let me know what’s happening, okay? Oh, oh. Maybe because of this it would be better if you didn’t go, you know? Maybe because of this. No. A pregnancy is not an inconvenience

Men don't have to go through a pregnancy.

It's a difficult choice of course.

I know a couple women who had an abortion. One was only 18. My neighbors daughter. She was very attractive. I'm 7 years older so I never tried to score. She's not bothered anymore.

I know the woman should have control over her body, even though she is carrying a child.

You have some libertarian views on government control. We are both pro choice. Are we pro murder?

You can't escape from the conundrum.

For that one, you know, I think what you should do is get rid of this. Because it’s so false what they’re saying, it’s such bulls---. Um. [PAUSE] I think, I think this goes away quickly. I think what — I think it’s probably better to do the Charleston thing, just this time. Uh, yeah. In two weeks, it’s fine. I think right now it’s, it’s better. You know? Okay, hun. the tape appears to show Cohen, who was Trump's lawyer at the time, discussing "how to set the whole thing up with funding." At one point Trump appears to ask "what financing?" and seems to ask, "pay with cash?"

Cohen appears to then say "No, no, no, no, no, no, I got..." before Trump is heard saying, or asking, "check" and then the recording abruptly ends. Though the exact wording on the tape is unclear at times, it does make clear that Trump was aware of the model's allegation of the affair and the plans to pay to ensure her silence.

It's unclear whether he was going to set up a company or pay with cash or a check. But he definitely didn't want the story to go public before election day.

wrong again, "milk cattle" farmer. here in NY there are over 4400 dairy farms and the price they're being paid for their product is about $5 to $7 less per cwt than their cost of production. those farmers who apply for a piece of this will receive it even in the deep blue state of NY. being a canadian border state means these folks are directly impacted by the 270% canadian dairy tariffs.

our government would never force a woman to bear a child. adoption has been an option for decades. some of the most successful people i know were adopted as an infant.

your problem is that you see infanticide as a means of birth control for couples who are too fucking careless, stupid, or lazy to buy a box of rubbers.

couples need to acknowledge and take responsibility for the fact that the momentary pleasure they seek could result in the very real consequence of creating a brand new person. and the life that they're creating should not be so easily disposable on a whim of inconvenience.

actions, like elections, have consequences. be an adult and take responsibility.
