A voice of reason? |
The dueling spins are as follows:
On Fox news they were of the opinion that if after all of this (four investigation, two years, and tens of millions of dollars) they came up with no collusion, that it is now time to turn the attention to those who used dubious intelligence to set this whole thing in motion. Tucker Carlson interviewed a GOP congressman who suggested that it was time to take a hard look at the IG reports from Horowitz that implicate many senior officials in the FBI for bias, dishonestly, and breaking regulations. Obviously if the report turns out lacking in "collusion" substance, there will be more calls for a second Special Counsel to investigate Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, and anyone else who made dubious judgement calls.
On CNN and MSNBC they had a virtual chain of people 100% devoted to attacking Barr over transparency and trying to make a claim that this was not the "end" of the probe, but just part of the process. They kept breaking in with speeches from a variety of Democrats who all "demanded" like wounded animals that nothing short of "total transparency" will do. Everyone wanting to remind people that Mueller was not the only game in town, and there was more "possibilities" out there. Jeff Toobin on CNN seemed to be almost a voice of reason by reminding people that regardless of other events, that this was unequivocally "good news" for Trump and his inner circle.
At the end of the day, I have a strong feeling that neither side is likely in touch with public sentiment. I doubt that Americans in general are in the mood for another Special Counsel probe, another in your face Congressional investigation, nor are they interesting in what might be happening with investigations in other jurisdictions. I don't think that they care much about Strzok and Page, and I doubt that anyone will lose any sleep if Congressional Democrats do not get to rummage through Mueller's investigation notes.
I think that the General public would quite honestly like to move on from all of this and start to focus again on what is real and what is important.

I suspect a second special council probe will be allotted about as much airtime on MSM and left-wing cable as the current transcript releases from the Congressional probe.
Hardly any if at all.
So I don't see fatigue as being a factor in naming a second special council. Plus I doubt we would see the non-stop "leaks" that were hallmark of the Trump/Russia probes. But not to pursue justice against those who should be criminally liable I think would be a mistake and an erosion of law and order.

Admin official tells me AG Barr is moving toward revealing principal conclusions of the Mueller probe at some point on Saturday or Sunday, and his announcement could come “as early as tonite.” AG working thru process but “wants to get this out tonite,” official said flatly

Full disclosure of #MuellerReport? Sure ... but let there be full disclosure of *everything* - including all the documents and testimony justifying the investigation. My weekend @NRO column:

From our man at doj - “Attorney General Barr will be at DOJ today reading the Mueller Report.
The timing on when he will notify congress of the "Special Counsel's principal conclusions," is fluid- expected to be a letter again.
-could be as early as tonight- but this weekend.
There are two forms of “collusion delusion” as President Trump’s legal team believes the immediate threat to the presidency has passed with the delivery of the Mueller report to Attorney General William Barr:
***The Trump/Fox victory dance because no one new was indicted for collusion or corruption involving Russia — and therefore claims of “witch hunts” and innocence were vindicated.
***The bitter reality that this probe has spawned many others stretching far beyond Russia — so it’s delusional to think it simply ends with no collusion.
Key question: “Will Democrats demand the nation stick to historical norms of proper presidential behavior, or will Mueller’s revelations be the new standard?”
if a card-carrying assclown like jeffrey toobin is seen as the voice of reason, it's safe to say that the media at large is irreparably fucked.

WASHINGTON — The findings of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, will remain confidential for at least another day, a senior Justice Department official said on Saturday, as Attorney General William P. Barr continued to pore over the report to determine what to make public.
Mr. Mueller delivered his highly anticipated report to Mr. Barr on Friday, signaling the formal conclusion of a 22-month investigation into Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and any attempts by President Trump’s associates to aid them. Mr. Mueller also examined whether Mr. Trump obstructed justice to try to protect himself or his allies from investigators.
Mr. Barr and Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who appointed Mr. Mueller and oversaw much of his work, were cloistered inside the Justice Department on Saturday with their top advisers determining how much of the report will be given to Congress and the public, according to the senior Justice Department official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. Mr. Mueller was not participating in the process.
Regulations governing the special counsel give Mr. Barr latitude to decide what, if anything, to share publicly. In a letter to Congress on Friday notifying members that he had the report, Mr. Barr said he planned to hand over to lawmakers “principal conclusions” of the report as soon as this weekend. He wrote that he “remained committed to as much transparency as possible.”

I am curious Roger...
How can you justify attacking the President on dubious grounds, supported four different investigations that now very likely will all agree that there was no criminal conspiracy of any sort by the President or his campaign...
But take issue with questioning FBI officials who have been found guilty by an internal (non-partisan) Inspector General of violating rules, procedures, and even laws in their attempt to go after Trump?
You seem to have no problems attacking Trump as a person (without believing that it is an attack on the very institution of the Presidency) - but you cannot use the same logic to understand that individuals (McCabe, Strzok, Page, etc) may have behaved far worse... because (for whatever reasons) attacking their behavior seems to be an "attack on the institution".
So take a side.
Is attacking individuals an attack on the institution that they represent?
Or can you attack individuals for their behavior "without" it being an attack on the institution that they represent?
Hypocrisy is the bedrock of liberalism, Rog...
This is a great example.
he President on dubious grounds, supported four different investigations that now very likely will all agree that there was no criminal conspiracy
The only dubious claim is that trump is going to get away scot free,.....His criminal enterprises in NY will be his downfall as I have said numerous times.....The claims of no conspiracy may be correct, but without Muellers comments on said charges, you cannot think nothing happened....maybe not criminally, but certainly something occurred...Did russians change votes???? That can only be answered in the minds of those who voted for trump, not in actual vote counts....with the amount of guano now being directly posted from twitter, I now know how easy low intellect voters like you can fall for the trump BS>......Stupidity is the bed rock of trump apologists.....
It took Mueller two years to write the report. Barr can take two days to read it.

Catherine Herridge is really (heavily) leaning *forward* into the OIG Horowitz investigation now that Mueller is complete. Said House Committees (Nunes, Goodlatte, Gowdy) never received the PAGE and MCCABE communication (she has 40 pages, only published 2).

The media’s behavior this week is another indication they’ve learned nothing. They’ll ignore key details, twist the facts and insult Trump’s base all in service of punishing the president. They just can’t figure out why Trump is so angry:
