Gibson Bakery v Oberlin College - The aftermath

Liberalism gone amok

Oberlin college made it clear in the aftermath of everything that they still feel like they really did nothing wrong. They are still demanding that they will fight the verdict, and sent out a blast letter to everyone associated with Oberlin that this was not "the final result".

I am not exactly sure how this helps their appeal. After all, they suggested during their arguments to the jury just prior to the punitive damage stage, that they "had" in fact gotten the message loud and clear, admitted their mistakes, and for all practical purposes begged the jury for mercy.

The facts here really don't change. The owners of Gibson bakery literally did nothing wrong. Everyone (in the end) admits that there was no racial profiling involved in the police call. Everyone (in the end) admits that there is no history of racism coming from the Gibsons. Everyone admits that the attacks put forth by the students and faculty of Oberlin college were without any degree of merit whatsoever. If defamation, libel, and slander still exist in our legal system, this was a textbook example of why such an action is considered both a criminal and civil charge.

Since these organized attacks on the Bakery, vandalism of the Gibson family homes, cars, and threats to the well being of the family, the Bakery was forced to lay off close to a dozen workers, parts of their building now sits without tenants, and the owners have been working for two years without salary to keep afloat. This was 100% on the students and faculty of Oberlin college.

The absolute arrogance displayed by the Administration and Faculty of Oberlin is beyond belief. I am not quite certain how you anyone can possibly defend these actions against innocent people, that resulted in this sort of tangible harm to not just the bakery, but the downtown area, as well as the town as a whole. I cannot understand how Oberlin can see itself as somehow the victims in all of this, and that somehow this verdict sends the wrong message to the students.

The truth is that this was little more than an emotional temper tantrum thrown by a bunch of self absorbed, self important, self righteous academics and their millennials students who were upset at the election of Donald Trump and were looking for someone or something to take it out on. The idea that their frustration over an election "allows" them to destroy a perfectly innocent small business in response, and that this should somehow be a "protected" action, tells us that these people "really" do believe that the average working person is beneath them.

Moreover, it's amazing (and quite frankly shocking) that there has been no call by alumni, Oberlin backers, or anyone with any clout  for any heads to roll. This has and will continue to put enormous financial strain on the college, not to mention all the bad press. Oberlin has been struggling with low attendance, and most students are on scholarship (paid out of a school fund). It may not take much to put one of the oldest institutions out of business. Something like this could be the nail in the coffin. Yet everyone associated with this seems to have full job security.

In many ways this is simply liberalism gone amok. You will notice that most liberal media outlets have either ignored the story, or misrepresented the story. On a smaller scale,  there have been some prominent liberals on twitter and social media who are defending Oberlin and parroting the argument that somehow this was about the First Amendment. My best guess is that most of them probably believe that a 135 years old bakery owned by a white family must have done something to deserve it, just on the basis that they are small business owners, white, and likely conservative. That is the liberal mindset today. Hate first, and then figure out later if your hate was justified. Let's be clear, these people live with a massive amount of hate to be able to do this to someone. But the amount of hate that they must have (just in general) to see it as justified. I couldn't live like that.

The bottom line is that liberals have declared all out war on anyone who dares to disagree with them, or who dares to take any sort of stand against them. Oberlin represents the worst of liberalism, the woke movement, social justice warriors, and everything that is wrong with our higher education system. Ironically, sadly, and dangerously, Oberlin see themselves, these sorts of actions, and what they are teaching the students to be the pillars of the society that they would like to live in.

this, in a nutshell, is liberalism defined.

it is completely devoid of logic, of reason, of common sense, and of any intellect whatsoever. and it's exactly why liberalism demands adherence, and must censor and silence its critics. subjected to the least bit of honest scrutiny, liberalism collapses on itself.

it's a joke. a sick, twisted, tyrannical joke.

will other institutions of higher education sit up and take notice? yeah, for about five minutes. but convinced that their motives are pure and just, this nonsense will be repeated, and soon. it's ironic that professor jacobson devoted so much time to following this story, as his employer - cornell university - is just as ideologically fucked as oberlin. perhaps he sees oberlin as a harbinger. if he doesn't he should.

As long as this kind of ideological pedagogy permeates the Oberlin curriculum, they won’t learn a thing. Make them pay every penny of the punitive damages. Then set up a table selling donuts just off campus.

Unlimited Free shit.
"Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) announced on Thursday that they will introduce legislation in the House and Senate that would forgive up to $50,000 of each students’ college loan debt, which would help about 42 million people, according to a press release posted on Warren’s Senate website.

“The legislation will significantly lessen the student debt crisis and help tackle the racial wealth gap,” the headline of the press release announcing the bills said."

$1.5 Trillion in outstanding Student loans.

Joe Biden: “I get calls from people all over the world — world leaders are calling me — and they’re almost begging me to do this, to save the country, save the world.”

The overlooked part of the Trump interview is how Stephanopoulos defended how Clinton destroyed evidence (33,000 emails under subpoena) but worried that a Norwegian might give Trump oppo research on his opponent. Insane.

Moveon.org now calls for impeach.

What a shithead.
"House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff  said that impeachment "is destined for failure" without Republican support, while blasting the party as “the cult of the president’s personality" and stating that he is actually against "putting the country" through impeachment proceedings.

Just proves it's a cynical political move by the Democrats.
