Unemployment steady at 3.6% - Wages up 3.1% - Jobs lower than expected

Depending on your take, this is either a good report or a worrisome report because the Jobs were lower than expected. The reality is that with unemployment at 3.6%  there is not a lot of room to grow jobs. Everyone would love to see 150K a month, but there may not be 150K workers to fill them.

Some will say that the global economy and trade wars is causing employers to scale back, but that suggests that employers are less concerned with their own needs, and more more concerned with the global economy. While I am sure there is always a bit of both considered, if an employer needs more employees, they will generally create the jobs and hire (unless they truly believe that things are going to go seriously south).  There is no indication of that.

"Manufacturing and construction saw anemic job growth in May with less than 5,000 jobs added in each sector"

Seeing that those jobs are gone forever those are great numbers.

Analysts had been looking for job growth to slow for quite some time, but it just wasn’t showing up in the data. Now, however, if you average out the past 3 months, we arrive at 152K jobs per month — exactly in-line with predictions. In fact, even the 200K+ jobs numbers we had been enjoying have tapered off over the last 6 months, averaging 198K over that time.

None of this should shatter any investors’ world view; this late in the employment recovery cycle, a slowdown in new hires had been widely expected. May’s number is likely overstating the weakness of the current jobs market, but almost every month in 2019 previous had been overstating it.

Small businesses lost 52K new jobs on the month, as labor shortages began to show up in the data, partially derived from the ongoing trade war with China. Small companies simply cannot compete with its bigger competition, which can offer better benefits and location comparatively. This is especially true with small retail boutiques and construction contractors — Construction by itself lost 36K private-sector jobs last month.

https://news.yahoo.com/private-sector-payrolls-decline-141602193.html

small businesses, mom and pop shops in particular, are having a brutally hard time finding help. workers who had to settle for a shit job @ $15/hr under 0linsky have so many job offers, they don't know which one to take. that leaves the pizza parlors and similar sized businesses out in the cold.

we really are at full employment, and it's funny to watch the TDS crowd twist themselves into knots trying to criticize this economy.

I agree that Bloomberg should spend his money like this.
"Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg Opens a New Window.will donate $500 million into a campaign aimed at closing all of the nation’s remaining coal plants by 2030, multiple reports released Friday said.

The billionaire made the investment in the Beyond Carbon initiative, which was created to combat climate change, eliminate coal and put the U.S. on track toward a 100 percent clean energy economy. According to the mayor’s foundation, the initiative marks the largest ever philanthropic effort to combat climate change.

The organization will bypass the federal government and instead seek to pass climate and clean energy policies, as well as back political candidates, at the state and local level.

"We're in a race against time with climate change, and yet there is virtually no hope of bold federal action on this issue for at least another two years. Mother Nature is not waiting on our political calendar, and neither can we," Bloomberg said."

This is economic freedom.

You can’t accuse Israeli politics of being boring.

Last week, with his Prime Ministership teetering on the brink as he raced to form a government before a midnight deadline, Benjamin Netanyahu decided to push the newly elected 21st Knesset off a ledge instead, plunging Israel into new elections to take place this September. It was very awkward timing for Jared Kushner, who had just touched down in Israel to discuss his long-rumored ‘peace plan’ with what he hoped to be a freshly minted right-wing government.

On the one hand, Netanyahu’s stunning failure to form a coalition sends him limping into fresh elections with a deep political wound. The upheaval has again derailed the timing of the Kushner plan -- which can only be a good thing given the administration’s track record of empowering creeping annexation and undermining the two-state solution. On the other hand, a desperate prime minister could take even more extreme steps to rally his right-wing base, with the White House eager to help.

As the elections unfold, we’ll continue to follow events closely and keep supporters informed through our regular Israeli election updates. But no matter what happens in the next election or what dangerous steps Trump and Netanyahu take over the next few months, we’re going to keep up our work here at home urging responsible US leaders to push back and lead the fight for diplomacy.

We're close to seeing a majority of the House Democratic caucus signed on to a landmark J Street-supported resolution, which draws a red line against annexation and reaffirms support for the two-state solution. That landmark will send a powerful message that Congress rejects disastrous policies that entrench occupation and exacerbate conflict. And with tensions with Iran still running very high, we’re backing legislation to block the Trump administration from launching an unauthorized new war of choice in the Middle East.

With so much on the line, we’re doing all that we can to fight for our values and to secure a better future for Israelis and Palestinians.

The Trump Recession under way?😟

Job creation decelerated strongly in May, with nonfarm payrolls up by just 75,000 even as the unemployment rate remained at a 50-year low, the Labor Department reported Friday.

The decline was the second in four months that payrolls increased by less than 100,000 as the labor market continues to show signs of weakening. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for a gain of 180,000.

In addition to the weak total for May, the previous two months' reports saw substantial downward revisions. March's count fell from 189,000 to 153,000 and the April total was taken down to 224,000 from 263,000, for a total reduction of 75,000 jobs.

Stock futures fell and bond yields dropped in reaction to the report. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures turned negative before reversing course and turning positive. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to its lowest level since September 2017.

"We had expected a slowdown after several years of job gains holding around 200,000, but not this much of a slowdown," said Beth Ann Bovino, U.S. chief economist for S&P Global Ratings.

Broadly speaking, the report amounted to another dark spot amid fears of a larger sputtering in growth and perhaps a recession within the next year.

"While much of the attention from investors has been focused on trade disputes and the potential for a slowing economy, today's disappointing employment report provides further evidence that the end of the business cycle is upon us and economic activity is slowing," said Charlie Ripley, senior investment strategist for Allianz Investment Management.

The biggest mistake is the implications from the tarrifs imposed on China and Mexico?

We have a history of business cycles. Between the Obama recovery from the worst recession since the Great Depression and the continuing economic growth under President Trump, I really hope that we don't have a new business cycle that could lead to a slowdown or even worse, a recession.

I believe that we need to defeat Trump in 2020 to save our republic. But I don't want ordinary Americans to suffer from a recession.

Biden is a Racist.
"Earlier this year, the City Club of Cleveland, Ohio published the full audio of Biden’s hour-long address to its membership on May 18, 1973. While last week, among others Breitbart News reported on a new book by a leftist journalist detailing how Biden used the forum to outline what he thought “was good for the Negro,” no other full accounting of the then-senator’s remarks has been made until now."

NATIONAL PARK QUIETLY REMOVED WARNING THAT GLACIERS ‘WILL ALL BE GONE’ BY 2020 AFTER YEARS OF HEAVY SNOWFALL

Glacier National Park quietly removed a visitor center sign saying its iconic glaciers will disappear by 2020 due to climate change.

Several winters of heavy snowfall threw off climate model projections the glaciers would all disappear by 2020, according to federal officials.

A blogger first noticed the signage change and noted other signs warning of “impending glacier disappearance have been replaced.”
The National Park Service (NPS) quietly removed a visitor center sign saying the glaciers at Glacier National Park would disappear by 2020 due to climate change.

As it turns out, higher-than-average snowfall in recent years upended computer model projections from the early 2000s that NPS based its claim glaciers “will all be gone by the year 2020,” federal officials said.
