Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch is testifying today before congressional committees on Capitol Hill. As Ed Morrissey notes, it’s curious that, although the White House has blocked a number of government officials from testifying before Congress, Yovanovitch showed up today to testify.
The White House may be okay with Yovanovitch testifying. According to this article by Debra Heine in American Greatness, Rep. Devin Nunes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, would like to question the former ambassador under oath.
A former top Ukrainian official told investigative reporter John Solomon last spring that the U.S. embassy in Kiev had been refusing to provide Ukrainian law enforcement officials with visas so they can deliver their evidence of election meddling and corruption to Washington.
“We were supposed to share this information during a working trip to the United States,” Kostiantyn Kulyk—then the deputy head of the Prosecutor General’s International Legal Cooperation Department—told Solomon back in April. “However, the [U.S.] ambassador blocked us from obtaining a visa. She didn’t explicitly deny our visa, but also didn’t give it to us.”
Much of the mainstream media is demanding that Yovanovitch is testifying in flat out rejection of the State Department's orders not to. They are attempting to play it out as if she must have something very incriminating to say about Trump's behavior on this whole thing, and is now willing to go out on a limb and provide testimony in spite of orders not to.
But other reports are suggesting that it's Nunes and the Republicans who want to question Yovanovitch, not necessarily the Democrats. Furthermore, there is speculation (of course not anything concrete) that she has been blocking information from the State Department that might be incriminating to the previous administration and may help prove some of the 2016 election meddling that had been done. Lastly, these reports are stating that the State Department has actually told Yovanovitch to testify.
The Powerline takes this one step further:
For what it’s worth, I have heard rumors that Yovanovitch has said privately that she blocked the visas at the behest of Joe Biden. This is third-hand information and should be viewed as such.Well that could be quite the bombshell if it turned out to be even mildly true. If there is any connection between Yovanovitch and Biden, then who knows how that changes things. But that being said, third hand information is still third hand information... and close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and CIA whistleblower complaints.

I believe she is may still be testifying.
Impeachment is illegal!
I had not been informed of this when you look at what he has gotten instead, which is certainly not an attorney. They would need to tell him that for this to be real due process and not, as it is now, a kangaroo court. The president is not a kangaroo and cannot be tried as one, let alone by one! We are mammals, not marsupials! Are marsupials mammals? I don’t know! I’m just a lawyer. Ergo propter hoc, caveat!
Congress is taking us down a dangerous path, a path full of witches and kangaroos, and given that the president has not had the opportunity to do so, I will say I OBJECT, YOUR HONOR! YOU NEED ME ON THAT WALL!
Also furthermore and hitherto thusly, it is no longer fun for the president, and he wants to go home and have a juice box, so you need to stop.
This is not the fair process he deserves, and I will not have it. This clearly violates the Constitution, which states in Article 11 that the president possesses the absolute right to do whatever he wants (nobody talks about Article 11), that his calves are shapely like a ballet dancer’s, that his touch can cure scrofula and that the Bourbons will reign for 1,000 years.
Also, Donald Trump has been unbelievably transparent, so transparent that pigeons fly directly into him. So shut up! Maybe he should impeach you! Yes, he can! No, you shut up!
Meanwhile, Congress is acting like it has equal authority over the executive branch, as though that is in the Constitution somewhere, as though the Constitution provides for the legislative branch to act as a check or balance on the executive! MUST BE NEXT TO ALL THE PARTS ABOUT WITCHES AND KANGAROOS, HUH?
I just wish we would think more about the Founders. Donald Trump should have unchecked, absolute power, just as they intended a leader to have, so he can Refuse his Assent to Laws that are wholesome and necessary for the public good, can obstruct the laws for naturalization of foreigners, refuse to pass new laws to encourage their migrations hither, cut off our trade with all parts of the world and mark his character as a Tyrant fit to be the ruler of a Free People.
I rest my case, Your Kangaroo Honor.
Scott A**hole believes that because despite he's pussygrabing ass, he is pissing off the liberals and can do anything he wants, including beheading crooked Hillary, he is a Tyrant fit to be the ruler of a Free People.

Yovanovitch Testified Under Subpoena
October 11, 2019 at 1:55 pm EDT
Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D-NY) told reporters that former Ukraine ambassador Marie Yovanovitch was answering questions under subpoena — but no subpoena was publicly announced, which means Yovanovitch may have asked for one in order to testify.
Yovanovitch’s scathing opening statement is now online but she is still testifying.

The Fake News Nation Review hates the Orange monster!
Seen in this light, the “Normandy Doctrine” is merely an excuse with which any friend of the United States — including the Kurds, who have, despite their small numbers and the danger they have faced, proven both faithful and useful to American regional interests — can be discarded on a whim. Far from an expression of nationalist self-interest, it is a pretext for withdrawal not so much from potential wars but from the policies that will do the most to prevent them. Much like Barack Obama’s ignominious retreats from Syria and Iraq, which Trump has correctly pegged as the primary reasons for the rise of ISIS, the president’s foolish decision to abandon the Kurds may set in motion a chain of events that will drag him or a successor back into war in the Middle East.
Our allies don't trust us anymore because the Orange monster is the President!

Trump Sends New Troops to Saudi Arabia
October 11, 2019 at 2:50 pm EDT
“The Pentagon will deploy about 1,500 extra troops to Saudi Arabia in answer to requests by the leading US military commander in the Middle East and, in part, because the US Navy is unable to send a relief aircraft carrier to deter potential Iranian aggression,” CNN reports.
“The move to bolster troops in the Middle East comes as President Trump’s decision to pull back US military forces from northeastern Syria has prompted bipartisan criticism from lawmakers.”

Yovanovitch appeared for her expected closed-door deposition before the House Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs Committees as part of their investigations into Trump’s efforts to persuade Ukraine's new government to commit publicly to investigate corruption and the president's political opponents.
It had been unclear right up until Yovanovitch arrived whether she would appear because she still works for the State Department. The White House had vowed that administration officials would not cooperate with the impeachment probe.
Hours into her testimony, the chairmen of the three committees released a statement saying that the State Department, at the behest of the White House, had directed her not to appear for her voluntary interview. In response, the House Intelligence Committee issued a subpoena to compel her Thursday night.
"This duly authorized subpoena is mandatory, and the illegitimate order from the Trump Administration not to cooperate has no force. As is required of her, the Ambassador is now complying with the subpoena and answering questions from both Democratic and Republican members and staff," Rep. Adam Schiff, the chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Elijah Cummings, the chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform and Rep. Eliot Engel, the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, said.
"Any efforts by Trump Administration officials to prevent witness cooperation with the Committees will be deemed obstruction of a co-equal branch of government and an adverse inference may be drawn against the President on the underlying allegations of corruption and coverup," the chairs added.
Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C.'s nonvoting House delegate and a member of the Oversight Committee, said Yovanovitch was "acting like a true ambassador."
"She herself has been deeply involved and has been the object of false statements, and she's clearing that up," Holmes Norton said.
Holmes Norton added that "both sides are finding her very credible," and Yovanovitch had not indicated that anyone attempted to prevent her from answering questions from lawmakers as expected Friday.
Asked about whether Yovanovitch had spoken about Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, Holmes Norton said, "That is becoming very, very deep."

You are wrong again.
Shepard Smith, the chief news anchor of Fox News, said on Friday that he was leaving the cable news network, an abrupt move that left some of his co-workers openly stunned.
Mr. Smith joined Fox News when the network started, in 1996. During the years that he has anchored major news events, he has also sparred, at times, with the network’s prime time news commentators, a group that includes Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.
Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, will appear for a deposition before House committees as part of the impeachment inquiry in spite of an attempt by the Trump administration to block his testimony.
"Notwithstanding the State Department's current direction to not testify, Ambassador Sondland will honor the Committees' subpoena, and he looks forward to testifying on Thursday," his lawyer Robert Luskin says.
The announcement came less than two hours before another key diplomat, former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovich, was scheduled for her own deposition
Gee an honorable donor to the trump campaign.....very surprising.....I hope he speaks out like today's guest is doing.....the country just might wake up and realize what a mistake trump is!!!!!!
WASHINGTON — A federal judge ruled Friday that President Donald Trump violated federal law when he used his declaration of a national emergency to get millions for building a wall on the southern border.
The ruling is a victory for El Paso County, Texas, and the Border Network for Human Rights, which sued to stop border construction in their community. They argued that Trump had no legal authority to spend more than what Congress appropriated for the wall project.
In January the president asked for $5.7 billion to build "a steel barrier for the Southwest border," but Congress approved only $1.375 billion. In February, Trump declared a national emergency and ordered that money for Pentagon construction projects would be used instead for the wall.

Justice Department Asks Judges to Block Subpoena
October 11, 2019 at 5:45 pm EDT
“The Justice Department asked a federal appeals court on Friday to stop the release of President Trump’s tax returns to the Manhattan district attorney’s office, arguing that local prosecutors should have to meet a very high legal bar before investigating a sitting president,” the New York Times reports.
“The filing meant Mr. Trump’s own Justice Department was lending support to his attempt to block a subpoena issued to his accounting firm for eight years of his personal and corporate tax returns.”

White House Looks to Rescue Kentucky Governor

You guys were upset when President Obama, reduced our troops in Iraq. You might have been correct, although it is not harboring terrorists like under Hussein.
But you don't care about the President and his decision to pull out of Syria. Even the Pentagon is not happy about his impulsive decisions.
the Pentagon inspector general issued a report to Congress saying that the Islamic State is again growing in power in Syria and Iraq, with approximately 14,000 to 18,000 militants.
The report specifically said President Donald Trump's decision to rapidly draw down troops in Syria and pull diplomatic staff from Iraq increased instability and allowed the militants to regroup.
Former Special Presidential Envoy Brett McGurk, who resigned following the drawdown announcement, has repeatedly warned of this scenario, saying that Trump's policies would lead to chaos and "an environment for extremists to thrive."
He's a fucking disaster.
The Art of the Deal, President Trump presents his deal making — by which he means his avarice and swindling — as an artistic enterprise. "Deals are my art form," he writes in his best-selling book that he didn't write. "Other people paint beautifully on canvas or write wonderful poetry. I like making deals, preferably big deals."
Trump's forte is con artistry. He sells books he doesn't write to people who don't read. He failed as a businessman but succeeded as a fake businessman on TV. The supreme irony of his life is that he poses as a dealmaker when he is the opposite. Trump doesn't make deals. He breaks them.
Trump's perfidy has global consequences. His decision this week to withdraw troops from northern Syria, reportedly made after a phone call with Turkish President Tayyip ErdoΔan, surprised and infuriated lawmakers, including Republicans. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) called it "a catastrophic mistake," Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) called it "a grave mistake that will have implications far beyond Syria," and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) called it "a betrayal." Trump's abandonment of the Kurds, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said, sends "the most dangerous signal possible — America is an unreliable ally." America is an unreliable ally because its president is an unreliable person.
If there's a constant in Trump's life, it's betrayal. He has betrayed his business partners, his customers, his employees, his friends, his wives, and his voters. A man who is willing to betray those closest to him will not hesitate to turn his back on foreigners thousands of miles away.
In addition to abandoning the Kurds, the Trump administration is withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty. Its most glaring defect is that it's a treaty. Trump opposes treaties because he loathes any agreement that redounds to other people's benefit. Moreover, treaties, like all reciprocal transactions, impose obligations on the signatories. To Trump, doing stuff for other people is for wimps and losers.
Since becoming president, Trump has extricated the United States from a host of international agreements. He pulled out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership ("a terrible deal"), the Paris Agreement ("a deal that punishes the United States"), the Iran nuclear deal ("the worst deal ever"), and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. He did so despite not knowing what any of them were. He also threatened to leave the World Trade Organization ("a disaster for the United States"; "they have been screwing us for years"), questioned the utility and fairness of NATO ("very unfair to the United States!"), and renegotiated NAFTA ("one of the worst trade deals ever") and the U.S.-South Korea Trade Agreement ("a horrible deal made by Hillary").
Thanks to Trump, the world no longer trusts the United States to honor its commitments. According to a Pew survey conducted last year, 82 percent of Europeans had no confidence in Trump's handling of international issues. Seventy-five percent of Canadians and 91 percent of Mexicans don't trust the president to do the right thing regarding world affairs. His numbers are bad even in Russia.
He sucks.
