These are facts that are not in dispute.
- Hunter Biden was given a $600K a year job working for a Ukrainian energy company (Burisma Holdings) while his father was the Vice President overseeing the diplomacy with Ukraine. The Vice President was described as the point person to Ukraine.
- Hunter Biden had no discernible skills or knowledge of Ukrainian energy, but was provided a lofty salary in spite no known legitimate reason for Burisma to have done so.
- Hunter Biden did travel with his father to China on Air Force II, where Joe was meeting with the Chinese Government.
- Hunter did leave with a $1.5 billion dollar investment for Burisma Holdings from a subsidiary company of the Chinese Government. There is no explanation offered as to how Hunter secured this investment.
- Joe did claim on video that he had the General Prosecutor Viktor Shokin fired after threatening the Ukrainian President that he would withhold a billion dollars in Congressionally approved aid if he wasn't fired.
- In a sworn notarized affidavit dated 4 September 2019 for a European court, Shokin did testified that "On several occasions President Poroshenko asked me to have a look at the criminal case against Burisma and consider the possibility of winding down the investigative actions in respect of this company, but I refused to close this investigation."
These are the facts that are not in dispute (or at least shouldn't be). What is in dispute is whether or not Viktor Shokin was telling the truth last month when he offered under oath that he believes that he was fired because of his involvement in investigating Burisma Holdings.
Other sources within Ukraine suggest that that investigation was either "dormant" or that it only involved events that took place "prior" to Hunter joining the board. Either way, the fact that there are two sides to just a small part of the overall story does not allow you to demand that the entire narrative is a lie. In fact, it probably demands a closer look.
But let's forget about the part of this story that is in dispute, and focus on what isn't.
Nobody (as far as I have seen) has provided an alternate theory as to why Hunter Biden was hired and provided a $600k a year salary that does not involve the idea that he was playing off his father's position of power, and could use it to garner favor. Hunter getting the job because of his father would be problematic and certainly at the very least borderline illegal.

If there was even a hint of Hunter receiving this investment because of his father, that would also be problematic and flat out illegal.
To be clear, if any of that $1.5 billion was because of Joe, then the job, the $600k a year salary, and the investment would qualify as dead to right criminal. No questions asked.
These two issues "alone" are worthy of a serious investigation. It is considered more than just a little illegal for a Politician (especially a Vice President) to use their political ties to secure salaries, gifts, money, or jobs to their family or loved ones. Even if Biden did not have the Prosecutor fired because of an investigation into Burisma Holdings, he still would have to explain the $600k a year salary and the $1.5 billion dollar investment. As far as I know, nobody who has asked these questions has gotten anything other than an earful of rage and anger from Joe along with a lecture about how they need to be focused on Trump's supposed wrong doings instead.
So yeah, there is no lying here folks. There is a small dispute in a pretty large and damning story. The undisputed facts and the undisputed truth are enough for everyone to take pause and want to know how some of this actually happened, and in the process maybe we could also get to the truth about the pressure to fire Shokin. I mean why not?
So why are so many so adamant that everyone comes to Biden's collective defense?
Why do so many on the left insist we be so vigilantly disinterested in the whole situation?
Because they have seen the poll numbers, and know that Biden is not only the "best" chance to defeat Trump, but he may be the "only" chance. But even that only holds true if they can make this whole Hunter/Ukraine/China story go away.

“Gowdy, a former prosecutor from South Carolina, is not formally joining the White House staff.”
Although earlier reports suggested Gowdy turned down the offer, CNN reports he agreed to do it after meeting with acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney.

When Clinton was impeached, the Judiciary committee voted to start the proceedings and they followed the impeachment guidelines which include both sides calling witnesses and all witnesses being cross examined.
