A buddy of mine actually had tickets, but we decided not to go because of the reports of not only the possibility of violence from protesters, but the strong possibility of not getting in. Obviously there were more people with tickets than there was room in the Target Center. The reports are that those who actually got into the Target Center were lined up hours before the event. Simply wasn't going to do this. Trump claims to have set the record for the most people ever attending an event in the Target Center.
Trump was of course Trump. Playing to the full house, playing to the crowd, and pissing off people in the meantime. The big Trump baby balloon was in town. There was lots of hecklers and apparently some skirmishes broke out. He spent a lot of time criticizing Ilhan Omar (who was out of town for security reasons) and vowed to win Minnesota in 2020.
One thing I can promise you is that there isn't a single Democrat today who is going to fill the Target Center, much less fill it this far out and have 1000's of people to spare. Now whether or not he set the Target Center "attendance" record is a matter of question, but it is most certainly a Trumpian thing to do to claim as much!

Trump said Biden was a good vice president only because he "understood how to kiss Barack Obama's ass."
If ass kissing is the measure, there has been more of that with Trump in office than ever before in American history.

Trump Allies Worry They Can’t Count on Senate GOP
October 11, 2019 at 5:40 am EDT
“Donald Trump made a defiant prediction last week that Senate Republicans will be the bulwark to keep Democrats from ending his presidency,” Politico reports.
“But behind the scenes, Republicans and Trump’s informal circle of advisers are tempering the president’s bravado, expressing concern over whether the president can truly count on a GOP-led Senate to keep him in office.”

“People close to President Trump tell us that Trey Gowdy’s ascendance into the president’s circle is an attempt to supplant Rudy Giuliani as a presence on cable television and Sunday shows. One person close to Trump said White House aides have been “pulling their hair out” every time Rudy opens his mouth on TV.”
However, Trump said before departing for Minneapolis: “Trey Gowdy can’t start until sometime after January because of the lobbying rules and regulations. So, I don’t know. So, we’ll have to see.”
Trump lawyer Victoria Toensing to Yahoo News: “Are you kidding? Trey is a joke among us.”

It’s Trump vs. Constitution
October 11, 2019 at 8:07 am EDT
“President Trump has spent his time in office trying to bend the conventions of the American presidency to his will. Now he appears to be trying to override a core principle of democracy: that no one is above the law,” the AP reports.
“Faced with an impeachment inquiry, Trump has openly defied the core constructs of the Constitution. He chafes at the idea of co-equal branches of government and rejects the House’s right to investigate him.
“He has deployed a convoluted logic in which he has declared that the courts can’t investigate him because as president he cannot be charged with a crime but also that Congress cannot impeach him because its inquiry is politically illegitimate.”

Trump Unloads at Minnesota Rally
October 11, 2019 at 6:10 am EDT
“President Trump descended into the heart of politically liberal Minneapolis on Thursday night, delivering a sprawling and at times vulgarity-laced campaign speech that attacked political opponents in withering terms, mocked Democrats for trying to impeach him, and predicted he’d carry Minnesota on his way to a second term next year,” the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
“The marathon, 102-minute speech capped a boisterous rally of cheering supporters who filled the 19,356-seat Target Center, surrounded by thousands more anti-Trump protesters, some of whom clashed with police as tensions rose amid a rainy chill.”

Trump’s Smoke-and-Mirrors Health Care Strategy

Most Ass Kissing Quote of the Day
October 11, 2019 at 8:38 am EDT By Taegan “Yeah, I disagree with what he’s doing now, I wish it wasn’t happening, but I still fully support it.”
— Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), on NPR, talking about President Trump and his pullout of troops from Syria.
good senator. He was only a good vice president because he figured out how to kiss Barack Obama’s ass.”
AD
Trump’s own vice president, Mike Pence, has been criticized for being too obsequious to the president.
“I’d love to run against him, to be honest,” Trump said of Biden.
Trump also fixated on the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, attacking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) and predicting that the Democrats’ “brazen attempt to overthrow our government will produce a backlash at the ballot box, the likes of which they have never, ever seen before in the history of our country.”
That claim comes even though recent polling has indicated that public opinion is turning against Trump. A Fox News poll released Thursday showed that 51 percent of voters want to see Trump impeached and removed from office.
At the rally, Trump insisted: “Polls are no different than crooked writers.”
Trump’s fire in Minnesota was expected to be trained on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who represents the Minneapolis district where the rally was held. But he also elicited boos after mentioning Somali refugees more broadly.
“Leaders in Washington brought large numbers of refugees to your state from Somalia,” Trump said, at which point a sizable portion of the crowd booed, “without considering the impact on schools and communities and taxpayers.”
Minnesota is home to the largest concentration of Somali immigrants of any state — accounting for about 1 percent of the state’s population.
Trump also mocked Omar, the first Somali-American in Congress. “How hell did that ever happen?” he said of her election, adding: “Congresswoman Omar is an America-hating socialist.”
While Trump talked about Omar, images of her in a headscarf flashed on the arena’s screens.
Trump has attacked Omar many times before, including a racist taunt earlier this year that she and three other minority Democratic congresswoman should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” at a July rally, a crowd in North Carolina responded to his attacks by chanting, “Send her back!”
Trump has also raised concerns about refugees on many occasions, dating back to his 2016 campaign, and his administration has sought to limit the number that can enter the United States.
Keep the negro population down.
I watched some of it Faux News and it was embarrassing to see the President of the United states, attack the free press and encourage lock her up chanting.

Now, in a reversal, more independents approve of the impeachment inquiry than disapprove, by a 54-41% margin, a net change of 19 points.

“Department of Defense officials began to worry that the funds would never make it to Ukraine, since the appropriations would expire with the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. They even began to prepare a legal challenge to the freezing of the funds, leading to an unprecedented fight within the Trump administration.”

Inspector General’s Ties Suggest Ukraine ‘Scandal’ is Just More Collusion Hoax
Michael Atkinson, the intelligence community’s inspector general at the center of the so-called “whistleblower” report, is earning Robert Mueller-level adoration by the press.
Atkinson, we are told, is a truth-seeker with no partisan agenda or political grudge. “The intelligence community’s chief watchdog, Michael Atkinson, is known to his peers and colleagues as a highly cautious ‘straight shooter’ who tends to keep his head down,” cooed Politico reporter Natasha Bertrand on September 23.
…
One critical period in Atkinson’s resume, however, has been overlooked—probably intentionally—by his boosters in the media: His work as a top deputy in the Justice Department in 2016 and 2017 during the very same time that the DOJ was investigating Trump campaign aides and, after the election, incoming administration officials. Atkinson worked directly for two figures involved in both the counterintelligence probe into the Trump campaign and the set-up of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
In July 2016, the exact month that former FBI Director James Comey officially opened a case against the Trump campaign, Atkinson was named senior counsel to John Carlin, the head of the National Security Division. Carlin was Robert Mueller’s chief of staff when he ran the FBI and was appointed NSD chief by President Obama in 2013.
Carlin’s name has surfaced numerous times in the congressional inquiry into the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. According to closed-door testimony by former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, Carlin regularly was briefed by former deputy FBI Director Andy McCabe on the Trump-Russia collusion probe.
Under questioning by Rep. James Jordan (R-Ohio) last year, one of Carlin’s top aides confirmed that Carlin notified him in August 2016 that the FBI had opened an investigation into the Trump campaign and that a team of NSD officials worked with the FBI on the case.
…
That means Carlin’s shop was involved in handling the FISA warrant on Trump campaign associate Carter Page. The original FISA warrant, signed by former FBI Director James Comey and Carlin’s colleague, former deputy attorney general Sally Yates, used the bogus Steele dossier as evidence to obtain the FISA court’s permission to spy on Page for one year. The warrant accused Page of being a foreign agent yet he has never been charged with a crime.
In September 2016, Carlin moderated an NSD event that featured speeches by Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former CIA Director John Brennan and White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough. Carlin abruptly resigned shortly thereafter amid controversy related to his handling of FISA material.
Carlin was replaced by Mary McCord: Atkinson stayed on as her senior counsel. A few days after Trump was sworn-in, McCord accompanied Sally Yates to a meeting with White House counsel Don McGahn. The purpose of the meeting was to warn the White House that Mike Flynn may have violated an arcane federal law and was at risk of being “blackmailed” by the Russians.
Coincidentally, both Carlin and McCord have been effusive in their praise of their former counsel. “As soon as I saw that [Atkinson] had recommended it be sent to Congress, that’s all I needed to know it was legit,” McCord told CNN last week. “The mere fact he was not on anyone’s radar is points to the fact that his sense of urgency is credible.”

In a 2-1 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upheld Congress’s broad investigative powers and rejected President Trump’s bid to block lawmakers from subpoenaing the documents. The case is one of several legal battles over access to the president’s financial data.
Donald Trump tried to save his crumbling presidency by riling up the MAGA mob at a rally in Minnesota on Thursday night, but he was greeted by rows of empty seats.

But the picture shared on Keith’s Twitter account shows rows and rows of empty seats in the upper level, making the concession stand explanation laughable.

Sorry Roger...
Local stations here showed the arena and it was completely full when he was speaking. It's easy to show pictures while people are still filing in and make the argument that they are not full.
Kind of hard to "fake" a full arena.
Like any "concert" that takes place in the Target Center, they generally do not seat anyone "behind" the stage, but even much of the area behind the stage was occupied for this. They also showed crowds of people outside of the arena watching on the video feed. If there was empty seats, then those people would have been allowed in.
Trump’s Minneapolis rally was a window into how ugly his 2020 campaign will be
Trump attacked Somali refugees, including Ilhan Omar, in one of the country’s Somali population centers.

President Donald Trump’s rally on Thursday night in Minneapolis served as a window of sorts into the strategy he hopes will win him a second term in office. The picture that emerged was not a pretty one.
It wasn’t surprising that Trump attacked one of his most regular targets of abuse, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) while rallying in the heart of her district in downtown Minneapolis. But what was jarring was not only how extreme his attacks were, but also the fact that he went out of his way to demonize the Somali community more broadly in a city that has one of the country’s largest Somali populations.
Citing articles from a fringe right-wing Minnesota-based blog, Trump called Omar “a disgrace to our country” and pushed unfounded conspiracy theories about her marital history. He also attacked the community of Somali refugees in Minneapolis of which Omar is a part.
“For many years, leaders in Washington brought large numbers of refugees to your state from Somalia without considering the impact on schools and communities and taxpayers,” Trump said, as his mostly white crowd broke out in boos — in effect jeering their neighbors.
Trump’s attacks on Omar and Somalis illustrated how, with an impeachment inquiry underway in the House and the legal net tightening around his associates, the president is doubling down on the sort of barely varnished bigotry that got him there in the first place. But Omar wasn’t the only Democrat who received the Hillary Clinton treatment.
“Maybe ‘lock her up’ goes to ‘lock him up’”
The Bidens served as another major target of Trump’s abuse on Thursday night in Minneapolis. The event began with Eric Trump warming up the crowd by bringing up Hunter Biden and musing that “maybe ‘lock her up’ goes to ‘lock him up’” in remarks that prompted the audience to break out in rabid “lock them up!” chants.
Those chants were especially disquieting coming as they did amid the backdrop of an abuse of power scandal involving the Trump administration’s efforts to leverage diplomacy into making foreign governments investigate the president’s political rivals — a scandal that has prompted impeachment hearings.
Trump later brought up Joe Biden and said he “was only a good vice president because he understood how to kiss Barack Obama’s ass.”
According to KMSP-TV/FOX 9
Why weren't they allowed in?
Five Isis militants have broken out of a prison in northern Syria after Turkish shelling nearby, a spokesman in the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces has said.

Minneapolis overpowers Trump rally with mass protest
By Wyatt Miller | October 11, 2019
More than 10,000 protest Trump in Minneapolis (Fight Back! News/staff)
Minneapolis, MN - Thousands of people poured into the streets on October 10 to resist the reactionary rally held by President Donald Trump in the heart of Minneapolis. Long targeted by the president’s racist incitement against the city’s immigrant, Muslim and Black communities, Minneapolis rose to the occasion with a massive display of righteous militancy.
The evening began with several marches converging from multiple directions onto the Target Center stadium where Trump was set to appear. One march, organized by over a dozen union locals and labor organizations, shut down traffic for miles as well as a major bridge over the Mississippi River.
At the intersection of 6th Street and 1st Avenue outside the Target Center, Trump supporters were forced to run a gauntlet of thousands of protesters in order to reach the venue entrance. Surrounded by the crowd, they were met with jeers and taunts at point-blank range, the MAGA hats ripped from their heads. Everyone from Somali women, to working-class retirees, to queer youth, jostled for a chance to express their rage at the supporters of a president who has brought uncertainty and worsening oppression onto their communities.
Even armed brownshirt militias, like the Oath Keepers, who had confidently proclaimed their intention to “protect” the Trump rally, were helpless against the overwhelming demonstration of people power. Multiple attempts by police to enter the crowd were repulsed throughout the night.
The jam-packed crowd sprawled down the block to the next intersection, in front of the First Avenue nightclub, where protesters erected a makeshift stage. Thousands filled the adjacent streets, chanting slogans like “Show me what democracy looks like! This is what democracy looks like!” “When the working class is under attack, what do we do? Stand up fight back!” and “No Trump, no KKK, no racist USA!”
Although the spectacle of impeachment proceedings in Washington dominated cable news headlines, protest organizers emphasized the concrete threats Trump represents to communities in Minneapolis. The city has been disproportionately affected by racist policies like the Muslim travel ban, as well as Trump’s support for Minneapolis police federation head and the infamous killer-cop apologist Bob Kroll, who appeared with Trump onstage. Trade unionists emphasized the attacks on union organizing rights by Trump-appointed judges. All present condemned Trump’s history of sexual violence against women, and his attacks on LGBTQ rights.
Other chants included “No ban on stolen land!” and “From Standing Rock to Palestine, occupation is a crime!” reflecting the mass movement’s growing awareness of imperialism both inside and outside U.S. borders, and its ongoing consequences. Veterans of the Minneapolis-based American Indian Movement, famous for its 1973 armed standoff with federal officials at the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota, joined protesters onstage.
“Bound up in all the various progressive people’s movements is the struggle against war, the struggle against colonialism, the struggle against imperialism, the struggle to resist the occupation of indigenous lands,” said Autumn Lake of the Anti-War Committee, to the cheers of thousands.
“There’s a story they don’t tell you about why Somalis came here,” said Jaylani Hussein of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN). “And that is that this country played with our country, and used it as a proxy in the Cold War. That’s why we are here.”
CAIR-MN was part of the ad hoc organizing committee for the event, which also included Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee, Anti-War Committee, Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Communities United Against Police Brutality, Minnesota Workers United, No Cages Minnesota, Queer Revolutionary Workers Syndicate, Twin Cities Democratic Socialists of America, General Defense Committee Local 14, Immigrant Worker Solidarity, and others. Still more groups organized independently. Fight Back! spoke with many protesters who said they had been unaware that a demonstration was being organized at all, but simply knew they had to protest as soon as they learned that Trump was coming to town.
The scale of the protest reflected the steady growth of the mass movement in the Twin Cities. Though challenges remain for the movement, its powerful display on the night of October 10 points to new revolutionary possibilities in the fights ahead.
