Let's be clear here folks, the President has already started laying the groundwork for turning any sort of impeachment trial into a giant-assed political spectacle. They could demand everyone and their son come testify, including Joe and Hunter Biden. They could demand that Adam Schiff testify about his involvement with the complainant and they could demand that Trump gets the opportunity to cross examine the complainant. They could question the motives (and actions) of the IG and question why the form was changed, why he seemed to have ignored other laws, etc, etc, etc...
The issue for Democrats is while they control the process in the House, that is not necessarily going to be high profile. Democrats appear are bound and determined to do things cloak and dagger, and then allow what they want to be "leaked". While this can be a decent political strategy, the real theater will take place in the Senate and that will be orchestrated by Mitch McConnell. Much of this would take place on live television.
In theory it should be about the President being on the defensive. But if there really isn't much disagreement about the facts (which there isn't) then the President, McConnell, and the Republicans can just move on by the phone call and make the case as to why such an investigation is needed. Enter Joe and Hunter Biden. They will also be able to press the case that the complainant and the complaint itself was an orchestrated political stunt. Enter Adam Schiff and the democratic operative IG who ignored the whistle blower laws.
At the end of the day, the President is like the Ray "boom boom" Mancini of the political world. Someone who is more than willing to take a few punches to deliver a few of his own. He might leave the ring bloody and bruised, but so will his opponent. The issue in this case is that the President has been permanently bloody and bruised, while his opponents might not be so sure they want to engage in that sort of brawl.
Be careful what you wish for, Democrats.
You just might get your impeachment spectacle.
