Just imagine if Bloomberg ends up as the Candidate!

Liz Warren provided Donald Trump with the greatest political ad ever!

This one would run wall to wall and pretty much undercut any idea that Mayor Bloomberg is somehow a man of great virtue who will be a wonderful step up from Donald Trump in terms of character. The fact that this comes from a Democratic Candidate for President who is more representative of the liberal base (especially women involved in the #MeToo movement) it's likely that this sort of ad would harm Bloomberg from both sides. You could see many Bernie Brohs and Warren fans embracing a more liberal third Party Candidate.

The real question is whether or not Warren understands how much this debate tactic undermines Bloomberg if he becomes the candidate, or if that is just sort of the plan. To show everyone exactly how open to these sorts of attacks he would be if he became the actual candidate. Or at the very least, it would take treatment of women attacks and many "Billionaire" character attacks against the President away from Democrats, and make it "just" about policy. Of course with the economy raging and things going well, it would be difficult to undermine the President on policy issues that really matter to people.

Despite record-low mortgage rates, the U.S. homeownership rate is still lower than it was before the housing crash of 2008, and mortgage spending is at an all-time low.

In fact, several metrics show that borrowers and lenders are still hesitant to take action after the Great Recession, according to a new study by LendingTree, a Charlotte, N.C.-based online lending marketplace.

“There are a lot of folks who are ‘once bitten twice shy’,” said LendingTree Chief Economist Tendayi Kapfidze, who noted that part of the difference is because permissive lending created an unhealthy run-up in the homeownership rate before the crisis.

More
The homeownership rate, 64.8%, is still 4 percentage points shy of pre-recession highs, according to LendingTree. Another metric of housing health, the rate at which people move, was at an all time low of only 9.78% in 2019, compared to 11.9% in 2008, according to U.S. Census data.

Home purchases are down because homeowners are watching their budgets and taking on less debt, statistics show. Only 2.45% of mortgage holders were delinquent in 2019, the lowest level in a decade — mortgage delinquency rate was as high as 11.5% in 2010, according to LendingTree. And despite skyrocketing home values, surpassing its pre-crisis peak of $14.4 trillion to reach $18.7 trillion in 2019, homeowners are taking on less debt against their home, said Kapfidze.

Proof positive that when you do not force lenders to lend to people they don't want to lend to, that delinquency is less of an issue... not to mention that most delinquency comes from a job loss or job change, and we pretty much have almost full employment right now!

What wonder news Denny...

U.S. stocks fell Friday, adding to losses from the prior session as investors fled to safe haven assets including gold and Treasuries. Existing home sales data, IHS Markit’s February purchasing managers’ indices for the U.S. and coronavirus developments remained a focus for investors.

10:00 a.m. ET: Existing home sales decline less than expected in January

Existing home sales fell by 1.3% month on month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.46 million in January, the National Association of Realtors said Friday. This beat consensus economist expectations for a decline of 1.8% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.44 million expected. In December, existing home sales registered at 5.53 million.

In January, declines were led by a drop in sales of previously owned homes in the West. These fell 9.4% over December. Sales were little changed to flat in the Midwest, South and Northeast.

I didn't hold Obama responsible for all of the job losses..

But I did hold him responsible for the $1.5 trillion dollar stimulus package that failed to deliver anything but a new stat called "jobs saved". Obama's first term was a Keynesian utopia, and it worked like every Freidman fan figured it would (it didn't).

The only excuse people like Krugman gave us for the massive failure and waste a trillion plus dollars was that the stimulus wasn't nearly big enough!

I also hold him responsible for the ramping down of expectations to the point where Krugman and every other economist was convinced that flat or one percent growth was the "new" norm and that you needed a magic wand to get us back up around 3%. That was just an excuse for how high government spending, regulations, and babysitting killed our capitalistic economy.

If Sanders secures a plurality of delegates but loses the nomination on a second ballot, many moderate and progressive Democrats alike predict the national convention in Milwaukee would devolve into chaos.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/20/bloomberg-brokered-convention-strategy-116407

One Democrat who worked on two campaigns for former President Obama called a brokered convention "the biggest nightmare Democrats can imagine."

"If you want to see a complete shit show, tune in to the brokered convention," the Democrat said.

President Trump’s latest tweet indicated that more aid could be headed to farmers adversely affected by the U.S.-China trade war.

In an all-caps tweet, he wrote: “If our formally targeted farmers need additional aid until such time as the trade deals with China, Mexico, Canada and others fully kick in, that aid will be provided by the federal government, paid for out of the massive tariff money coming into the USA!”

The U.S. has already approved $28 billion in farmer aid through its market facilitation program. The first round of payments, totaling $4.7 billion, was paid in September 2018. The second round was distributed three months later. By February 2019, the total bailout reached $7.7 billion.

In May 2019, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it would provide an additional $16 billion to help farmers while trade negotiations between the U.S. and China continued. Overall, $19 billion in aid has been granted so far, with the rest to be distributed in 2020.

President Donald Trump, accompanied by Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, second from left, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, second from right, and farmers and ranchers, speaks in the Oval Office of the White House, Thursday, May 23, 2019, in Washington. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)

Trump’s announcement comes at a time when farm bankruptcies are at an 8-year high, partially due to the trade war. U.S. Courts data shows that farm bankruptcy rates increased by 20% in 2019, to a total of 595 Chapter 12 bankruptcies across the country.

Amid trade uncertainty, poor cropping conditions, and other mitigating factors, nearly one-third of farm income in 2019 came from government aid, according to the USDA.

‘It’s not just a benefit to farmers’

Although Trump has stated numerous times that China is the one paying for these tariffs, that’s not actually the case.

Research from the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) has shown that “U.S. tariffs continue to be almost entirely borne by U.S. firms and consumers … approximately 100% of these import taxes have been passed on to U.S. importers and consumers.”

Mike Bloomberg:
“I’ve had the company go back over its record and they’ve identified THREE NDAs that we signed over the past 30-plus years with women to address complaints about comments they said I had made. If any of them want to be released from their NDA so that they can talk about those allegations, they should contact the company and they’ll be given a release.

Bloomberg says three women who signed non-disclosure agreements can be released

WASHINGTON, Feb 21 (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg said on Friday that his company had reviewed its records and found three women who had signed non-disclosure agreements related to their complaints about statements he made personally.

"If any of them want to be released from their NDA so that they can talk about those allegations, they should contact the company and they'll be given a release," Bloomberg said in a statement.

"I've done a lot of reflecting on this issue over the past few days and I've decided that for as long as I'm running the company, we won't offer confidentiality agreements to resolve claims of sexual harassment or misconduct going forward," he added.

THE SWAMP KEEPS GETTING SMELLIER
Trump’s Spy Chief Worked for Corrupt Foreign Politician

“President Trump’s new acting intelligence director, Richard Grenell, used to do consulting work on behalf of an Eastern European oligarch who is now a fugitive and was recently barred from entering the U.S. under anti-corruption sanctions imposed last month by the State Department,” ProPublica reports.

“In 2016, Grenell wrote several articles defending the oligarch, a Moldovan politician named Vladimir Plahotniuc, but did not disclose that he was being paid.”

“Grenell also did not register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which generally requires people to disclose work in the U.S. on behalf of foreign politicians.”

AND SMELLIER

Grenell Begins Overhauling Intelligence Office

“Richard Grenell’s tenure as the nation’s top intelligence official may be short-lived, BECAUSE OF THE SMELL but he wasted no time this week starting to shape his team of advisers, ousting his office’s No. 2 official — a longtime intelligence officer — and bringing in an expert on Trump conspiracy theories to help lead the agency,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Grenell has also requested the intelligence behind the classified briefing last week before the House Intelligence Committee where officials told lawmakers that Russia was interfering in November’s presidential election and that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia favored President Trump’s re-election. The briefing later prompted Mr. Trump’s anger as he complained that Democrats would use it against him.”
