The coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China, has now swept through 126 countries, infected close to 170,000 people worldwide, and is responsible for more than 6,400 deaths as of March 15. China is leading the world in the number of confirmed cases and deaths. What many people find shocking is that Italy and Iran are the second- and third-hardest hit nations in this outbreak.
By any common-sense measure, both countries should have much lower numbers of confirmed cases and deaths because they are geographically far from the epicenter of the outbreak. The reason these two countries are suffering the most outside China is mainly due to their close ties with Beijing, primarily through the “One Belt and One Road” (OBOR) initiative.
So basically Italy and Iran were two countries that agreed to work with China on their OBOR initiative and now they are two countries that seemingly are showing heavy effects from Coronavirus that otherwise cannot be explained.
So perhaps looking at Italy as the base line of how the spread will take place in the U.S. is not necessarily the best choice, since we specifically closed travel to and from China, while Italy had a large amount of travel in place (which was not addressed nearly as early as it was in the U.S.).
It's also being pointed out that the larger percentages of deaths in Italy (than pretty much anywhere else) may also have to do with the fact that Italy has a disproportionate amount of elderly residents in comparison to China or Iran.

NYT: Trump Now Claims He Always Knew the Coronavirus Would Be a Pandemic
The president tried to rewrite his history with advising Americans about the coronavirus. His own words prove him wrong.
WASHINGTON — For weeks, President Trump has minimized the coronavirus, mocked concern about it and treated the risk cavalierly. On Tuesday he took to the White House podium and made a remarkable pronouncement: He knew it was a pandemic all along.
“I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic,” Mr. Trump told reporters.
Here is what Mr. Trump actually said from the beginning of the pandemic.
Jan. 22, asked on CNBC whether he was concerned about a global pandemic: “No, not at all,’’ Mr. Trump said. “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”
Feb. 26, at a White House news conference, about the number of reported cases of the virus: “We’re going down, not up. We’re going very substantially down, not up.”
Feb. 27, at a White House meeting: “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”
March 7, seated next to President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil at Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach, Fla., club: “I’m not concerned at all.” (At least three members of the Brazilian delegation and one Trump donor at Mar-a-Lago on March 7 later tested positive for the virus.)
March 16, in the White House briefing room, warning that the outbreak would last until summer and then suddenly disappear: “So it could be right in that period of time where it, I say, wash — it washes through. Other people don’t like that term. But where it washes through.”
Mike Pence's stock is still rising, I guess.
knock it off with the fucking copy/paste's pederast.

Well rat, in the pederast’s and every other leftist shitball’s defense, hindsight is 20/20

Tucker Carlson Pushed Trump on the Pandemic
March 17, 2020 at 5:43 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 102 Comments
Vanity Fair:
“Tucker Carlson started talking more extensively about the virus on his Fox News show on February 3, spurred, he says, by harrowing reports emerging from China. Trump, it seems, was the last to know. A White House adviser arranged for Carlson to meet with Trump so the TV personality could, in essence, penetrate Trump’s bubble. They talked for two hours. The oncoming pandemic, Carlson told him, was an existential threat to the nation. To translate it into Trumpian language, an existential threat to his reelection.
"Mike Pence joined at one point.”
“Carlson won’t discuss the president’s reaction on the record, but suffice it to say that Trump’s denial went on for another week while the pandemic ballooned and right-wing allies—many of them on Fox News—suggested the virus was a liberal hoax and members of Congress, as recently as three days ago, told people to continue going out in public as if nothing was happening.”

NYT U.S. Coronavirus Map:
Cases Now Reported in All 50 States
6:34 P.M. E.T.
The coronavirus has now been identified in all 50 U.S. states, and more than 100 deaths in the country have been linked to the illness. Those known deaths, all from the past three weeks, come as the number of diagnoses has surged into the thousands as the virus has spread and as testing has expanded significantly. On Tuesday evening, West Virginia became the 50th state to report its first case.

well, i'm sure the cavalcade of stars you take advice from is struggling to call out of the shallow end of the gene pool.
and considering the amount of splatter it creates when it hits the intended target, a lot of covid-laced bodily fluid gets spread.

Trump closed the border to foreign nationals who had been in China on January 31 to combat spread of the Wuhan virus. WHO declared a pandemic 40 days later, on March 11.
Trump way ahead of the World Health Organization and did this despite heavy criticism by the dems.
So why did he then turn around and start pooh poohing the seriousness of the virus... sorta like a cold... just stay at home or even go to work, etc., etc., etc.?????

But I do want to make one thing clear: If you think that by stocking up your pantries you have absolved yourself from the responsibility of preparing for this virus, you are mistaken. Behold, the perils of the Pinocchio presidency.
For three years, President Trump told his supporters that the federal government perpetrates hoaxes and frauds, that the media produces fake news and that nothing is on the level except for his tweets. He did the same with the novel coronavirus, portraying it as an ordinary flu that would “disappear” and accusing Democrats of a hoax and the media of exaggerating.
Belatedly, Trump has begun to speak the truth about the virus, which by some estimates could kill more than 2 million Americans without attempts to control it. After an abrupt change of tone Monday afternoon, Trump continued to say the right things, using the same word on Tuesday that former vice president Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron have used: war.
“We have to get rid of this, we have to win this war, and ideally quickly,” he said in the White House briefing room. “Because the longer it takes — it’s not a good situation. And I’m not even talking about the economy, I’m talking about the lives of a lot of people.”
But Trump’s late conversion to reality has left behind one group of Americans that will be difficult to convince: his own supporters. Their alternative-facts diet has left them intolerant of anything the government and the media feed them.
An alarming new poll from NPR, PBS NewsHour and Marist shows that the number of Republicans who believe the virus is a real threat has actually fallen over the past month, from 72 percent in February to just 40 percent now. A majority of Republicans now say the threat has been blown out of proportion — more than double the 23 percent who said so last month.
Milbank is a hack just like you Denny.
And you are a science denying asshole who posted last week an opinion from the NYP that this may not be as bad as we think.....BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Funny how you fit the description Milbank wrote about!!!!!
Why does trump constantly lie....now claims he knew it would be a pandemic.....cramps will slurp and swallow!!!!
— For weeks, President Trump has minimized the coronavirus, mocked concern about it and treated the risk from it cavalierly. On Tuesday he took to the White House lectern and made a remarkable assertion: He knew it was a pandemic all along.
“This is a pandemic,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”
This is what Mr. Trump has actually said over the past two months:
On Jan. 22, asked by a CNBC reporter whether there were “worries about a pandemic,” the president replied: “No, not at all. We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”
On Feb. 26, at a White House news conference, commenting on the country’s first reported cases: “We’re going to be pretty soon at only five people. And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time. So we’ve had very good luck.”

On Feb. 27, at a White House meeting: “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”
On March 7, standing next to President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil at Mar-a-Lago, his club in Palm Beach, Fla., when asked if he was concerned that the virus was spreading closer to Washington: “No, I’m not concerned at all. No, I’m not. No, we’ve done a great job.” (At least three members of the Brazilian delegation and one Trump donor at Mar-a-Lago that weekend later tested positive for the virus.)
On March 16, in the White House briefing room, warning that the outbreak would “wash” away this summer: “So it could be right in that period of time where it, I say, wash — it washes through. Other people don’t like that term. But where it washes through.”

That comment on Monday was part of Mr. Trump’s inching toward a more urgent tone in recent days. But his assertion on Tuesday that he had long seen the pandemic coming was the most abrupt pivot yet from the voluminous number of claims and caustic remarks he has made about the disease.
On Tuesday, Mr. Trump spent much of a lengthy news conference praising his administration’s response to the pandemic, saying the only mistake his administration made had been a mismanagement of relationships with the news media.
When asked why he had suddenly adopted a somber and realistic tone about the virus on Tuesday, the president denied that he had changed his mind at all.
“No, I’ve always viewed it as very serious,” Mr. Trump said. “There was no difference yesterday from days before. I feel the tone is similar, but some people said it wasn’t.”
Besides denying the seriousness of the coronavirus over the past two months, he had also displayed an acerbic tone toward people who took it more seriously.
there's nothing alarming about that National Pinko Radio poll. not to us normal, rational people.
millbank's alarmed by the fact that the bullshit the media has been peddling and using to scare the shit out of the public in order to destroy trump might have an extraordinarily short shelf life.
pinocchio presidency? indeed. when viewed in the context of the egregious lies the media has been telling since inauguration day.
you're an imbecile denny. and the perfect shill for an asshole like millbank.

Trump Angry at Kushner Over Coronavirus Advice
March 18, 2020 at 8:02 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 116 Comments
Gabriel Sherman:
“Sources told me Trump is regretting that Kushner swooped into the coronavirus response last week. Kushner, according to sources, encouraged Trump to treat the emergency as a P.R. problem when Fauci and others were calling for aggressive action.”
Said one former White House official: “This was Jared saying the world needs me to solve another problem.”
“One source briefed on the internal conversations told me that Kushner advised Trump not to call a national emergency during his Oval Office address on March 11 because ‘it would tank the markets.’ The markets cratered anyway, and Trump announced the national emergency on Friday… Trump was also said to be angry that Kushner oversold Google’s coronavirus testing website when in fact the tech giant had a fledgling effort. Trump got slammed in the press for promoting the phantom Google product.”
Said a source: “Jared told Trump that Google was doing an entire website that would be up in 72 hours and had 1,100 people working on it 24/7. That’s just a lie.”

Slate:
“The race is effectively over. Biden has built up an insurmountable delegate lead and, barring some major medical issue—we hear there’s a bug going around?— he will be the Democratic presidential nominee.
“It seemed hard to imagine that Democratic voters could speak with any clear voice just two and a half weeks ago, when there were still seven Democratic candidates jockeying for a percentage point or a delegate here and there. More than half of pledged delegates will have been allotted once Tuesday’s results are final, and Democratic voters couldn’t speak much more clearly.”

Democrats Now Favored In Presidential Race

Stuart Rothenberg: “More than 14 months ago, I wrote a column in this space suggesting that the 2020 presidential contest was a toss-up, but one that tilted toward the Democrats. I offered caveats about the economy and the Democratic nomination, acknowledging that there was ‘no way of knowing what events will draw America’s attention 18 or 20 months from now.’ Now, the landscape has changed.”
“Democrats are likely to be united in the fall, and President Trump’s standing is stuck where it has been for many months. There are also more questions about presidential leadership and the economy, which the president has been relying on to help him win a second term.”
“The president is an underdog now in his bid for a second term.”

Sanders Faces Growing Pressure to Drop Out

Washington Post: “Sanders and his wife, Jane, are expected to reach a decision together about the future of the campaign, people in frequent contact with them said, taking input from advisers but making the call on their own. Many Democrats are waiting anxiously to see what Sanders says on Wednesday about the future of the race, if anything.”
The Hill reports Sanders will “assess his campaign” after losses.
The Sanders campaign issued this statement: “The next primary contest is at least three weeks away. Sen. Sanders is going to be having conversations with his supporters to assess his campaign. In the immediate term, however, he is focused on the government response to the coronavirus outbreak and ensuring that we take care of working people the most vulnerable.”

Delegate Math Just Got Much Tougher for Sanders

Aaron Blake:
“Perhaps this math puts it into perspective. At the start of the night, Biden needed 49% of remaining delegates to win the nomination outright, while Sanders needed 55%. As of this posting, Biden needs 46% of the remaining delegates, while Sanders needs 61%.”
“In other words, the delegate math just got a lot tougher. We knew it would get tougher because these aren’t Sanders states, but Biden registered the kind of margins he needs to begin putting this race out of reach.”

“He reserves the right to surprise viewers — as he did with a serious turn on Monday afternoon — offering an appearance totally out of character with the show’s previous installments. And the president appears when he wants, often at the beginning of coronavirus task force news conferences, and sometimes departs early, too — not dissimilar to his time as the actual reality TV host of NBC’s ‘The Apprentice,’ when he would dole out the challenge and then recede off-screen to the let the teams battle for his approval.
