Deal cut - Senate expects bipartisan passing of bill today!

The only question is what will the House do?

Steven Mnuchin, Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer came to an agreement sometime around 1:30 in the morning. Pelosi is signally that she is going to call for a unanimous consent vote, which requires only two members present (but unanimous consent). This could be easier said than done, as already certain parties (Ocasio-Cortez being one) have already stepped up and criticized the bill.

If they have to call everyone back into session, that could delay the signing of the bill into law even further.

Her other option, of course, would be to reject it by tearing it up in an embarrassingly childish symbolic matter because it doesn't include mandated election changes, a $30/hour minimum wage, and a nanny overseeing of the airlines. But perhaps she's already worn that gesture out?

Newsbusters makes a good observation. The Whitehouse press Corp bitched when Trump stopped holding daily briefings. Now that he is, they're bitching that he's holding them, calling them campaign propaganda. Anything to oppose.

Deal Reached on $2 Trillion Stimulus Package
March 25, 2020 at 6:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 90 Comments

“Senate leaders and the Trump administration clinched a bipartisan deal early Wednesday morning on a nearly $2 trillion emergency relief package in response to the coronavirus pandemic, a move intended to assist businesses and millions of Americans amid an unprecedented halt in the U.S. economy,” Politico reports.

“The announcement, which came around 1 a.m., capped five days of tense, marathon talks.

New York Times:
“In the final measure, lawmakers agreed to a significant expansion of unemployment benefits that would extend unemployment insurance by 13 weeks and include a four-month enhancement of benefits, officials familiar with the unfinished agreement said. Democrats said that it would allow workers to maintain their full salaries if forced out of work as a result of the pandemic.”

Washington Post:
“The delay in finalizing a deal came, in part, because aides launched a painstaking scrub of the bill’s text, to make sure that one of the most ambitious pieces of legislation ever attempted by Congress — thrown together in little over a week — actually said what lawmakers wanted it to say.”
