Math is hard!

Apparently liberals believe that Mike Bloomberg spend enough on his campaign to give "every American a million dollars"!    (it's actually $1.53 per American)

If that were true, he could have promised to give only those who each voted against Trump a million. Now THAT would really have been "buying an election."

Trump Insists Less Travel Will Help Economy
March 6, 2020 at 12:04 pm EST

Here’s how President Trump tried to reassure Americans about the state of the economy during a Fox News town hall event:

"Well, look, we were set to hit 30,000 on the Dow. This is a number that nobody even came close to. And already we have the number. And even though it’s down 10 or 11 percent, it’s still the highest it’s ever been, by far. It certainly might have an impact. At the same time, I have to say, people are now staying in the United States, spending their money in the U.S. — and I like that. People are now staying in the United States, spending their money in the U.S., and I like that. I’ve been after that for a long time.

It seems that Reverend Hypocrite has changed his tune.

Just a few days ago, poor James believed that Bloomberg was the only Democrat who could defeat Bloomberg, criticizing Sanders and Biden and others as incapable.

Now that the Reverend was as wrong about Bloomberg as Ol Rog was about Kerry, he is singing a different hypocritical tune about Biden being the new savior.

I wonder if the Reverend hasn't already figured out that Biden sucked when he was in the spotlight and only came alive when he slithered away into the background. Democrats had selective amnesia about all of his troubles (that led to his demoralizing defeats in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada). They think those problems will "go away" if he becomes the nominee!

He still has a son who is under investigation. He still cannot put together coherent sentences. He still believes there is a good chance he will die while in office. He still believes that 9:00 is too early to be able to properly concentrate and he still admits to being confused by having to do two interviews in the same morning.

He is still the same shitty candidate who lost twice before and was losing badly here. It's only desperation that keeps him afloat.

They are just not excited about him, and as long as things are going well for them, hey are not going to be that exciting about replacing "successful" one old white guy with another "less successful" old white guys with similar background of racist and sexist attitudes.

As for my former support for Bloomberg, it was based on interviews and articles about him, and I still am convinced if he had become President would look like JESUS (another Jew) compared to Trump who is a Judas to our Constitution and to simple human values and decency.

It was also based on my fear that Bernie might already have the nomination sewn up AND on the fact HE was the candidate the Russians and Putin and Trump most WANTED because they thought he would be an easy target.

But after Warren effectively brought Bloomberg's candidacy to an end in the first debate, that led to a reaction of the majority of the Dem party as they coalesced and united and closed rank around Biden (Thank you, Mike! Thank you, Donald! Thank you, Putin!) as their now-best candidate to DUMP TRUMP FROM THE WHITE HOUSE.

Kevin Williamson presents his indictment in an article called “Joe Biden: Not a Socialist, Just a Scoundrel.” Williamson writes:

[Biden] is a vicious self-serving political hack, for one thing, one whose ambition leads him from time to time into shocking indecency. You may have heard that Biden lost his wife and daughter in a horrifying drunk-driving wreck, the fault of a monster of a man who irresponsibly “drank his lunch,” as Biden puts it.

Never happened.

Biden’s wife and daughter did, in fact, die in a car wreck. That is true. It is not true that the driver of the other car was drunk, that he had been drinking, or that there was any reason to believe he was drunk or had been drinking — or even that he was at fault.

The late Mrs. Biden “drove into the path of [the] tractor-trailer,” the police report says. But Biden, like every other third-rate ward-heeler of his ilk, thinks and speaks only in terms of good guys and bad guys, white hats and black hats — and if something bad happens to good people, then it must be because somebody in a black hat did something nefarious.

The driver of that truck went to his grave haunted by Biden’s lies, to the point where his children were forced to beg the vice president to stop defaming their late father. The casual cruelty with which Biden is willing to subordinate the lives of ordinary people to his political ambitions — for the sake of a petty tear-jerker line in one of his occasionally plagiarized stump speeches — is remarkable.

Unfortunately, it’s also in character:

A man who can lightly misrepresent the circumstances surrounding the death of his wife and infant daughter is liable to be just as cavalier when it comes to, say, slavery, telling a largely black audience that Mitt Romney — Mitt Romney! — wants to “put y’all back in chains.” (Oh, that “y’all”!) Cynical doesn’t begin to cover it.

One of the worst features of our political life is the ugly and dishonest fights we have over Supreme Court nominations — a habit that can be laid squarely at the feet of Joe Biden, who along with Ted Kennedy, that pillar of human decency, organized one of the worst smear campaigns in modern American political history against Robert Bork, whose great crime against humanity was taking the “extremist” position that the Constitution actually says what it says rather than what anybody with power wishes it would say at any given moment. . . .

Don’t like the way Merrick Garland was treated? Mitch McConnell didn’t start that game — he is just better at it than his contemporary Democratic colleagues are. For lying partisan viciousness in the modern mode, Joe Biden is your man.

Goddard hasn't told him what to think yet.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

I didn't have an answer because the allegation was new to me. A little research provides this:

The article about Biden's wife's death, which was published in 2008, has received a new round of attention during Biden's 2020 presidential campaign. Since the article was published, Biden has apologized to Pamela Hamill, the daughter of the man involved, she told Politico in 2019.

“He apologized for hurting my family in any way,” Hamill said. “So we accepted that—and kind of end of story from there.”

In 2001, she had written a heartfelt letter to Biden expressing her father’s profound grief after hearing Biden make a speech in which he told the audience that, given his history, he could empathize with victims.

“Growing up, my dad never talked about it. He always got very solemn around Christmastime because the anniversary was Dec. 18, and he never wanted to celebrate the holidays,” Hamill said. “When newspapers had anniversary articles (about the crash), we hid them from dad.”

Biden responded in a handwritten note, which, in part, reads, “All that I can say is I am sorry for all of us and please know that neither I or my sons feel any animosity whatsoever.”

But the arrhythmia specialist said, no, it's too old. Her doctor said, I'm going to make an appointment, because a picture is worth a thousand words. And when the other arrhythmia specialist saw her, saw her joy of life and so on, he said, I'm going for it. So that was over five years ago. My question to you is, outside the medical criteria for prolonging life for somebody elderly, is there any consideration that can be given for a certain spirit, a certain joy of living, quality of life? Or is it just a medical cutoff at a certain age?
OBAMA: Well, first of all, I want to meet your mom. (LAUGHTER)
OBAMA: And I want to find out what's she's eating. (LAUGHTER)
OBAMA: But, look, the first thing for all of us to understand is that we actually have some -- some choices to make about how we want to deal with our own end-of-life care. And that's one of the things I think that we can all promote, and this is not a big government program. This is something that each of us individually can do, is to draft and sign a living will so that we're very clear with our doctors about how we want to approach the end of life. I don't think that we can make judgments based on peoples' spirit. That would be a pretty subjective decision to be making. I think we have to have rules that say that we are going to provide good, quality care for all people.
GIBSON: But the money may not have been there for her pacemaker or for your grandmother's hip replacement.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

OBAMA: Well, and -- and that's absolutely true. And end-of-life care is one of the most difficult sets of decisions that we're going to
have to make. I don't want bureaucracies making those decisions, but understand that those decisions are already being made in one way or another. If they're not being made under Medicare and Medicaid, they're being made by private insurers. We don't always make those decisions explicitly. We often make those decisions by just letting people run out of money or making the deductibles so high or the out-of-pocket expenses so onerous that they just can't afford the care. And all we're suggesting -- and we're not going to solve every difficult problem in terms of end-of-life care. A lot of that is going to have to be, we as a culture and as a society starting to make better decisions within our own families and for ourselves. But what we can do is make sure that at least some of the waste that exists in the system that's not making anybody's mom better, that is loading up on additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care, that at least we can let doctors know and your mom know that, you know what? Maybe this isn't going to help. Maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller. And those kinds of decisions between doctors and patients, and making sure that our incentives are not preventing those good decisions, and that -- that doctors and hospitals all are aligned for patient care, that's something we can achieve. We're not going to solve every single one of these very difficult decisions at end of life, and ultimately that's going to be between physicians and patients. But we can make real progress on this front if we work a little bit harder.
SAWYER: Is that a conversation you could have had with your mom?
STURM: What I wanted to say was, that the arrhythmia specialist who put the pacemaker in said that it cost Medicare $30,000 at the time. She had been in the hospital two or three times a month before that, so let's say 20, 30 times being in the hospital, maybe going to rehab, the cost was so much more. And that's what would have happened had she not had the pacemaker.
OBAMA: Well, and that's a good example of where -- if we've got experts who are looking at this, and they are advising doctors across the board that the pacemaker may ultimately save money, then we potentially could have done that faster. I mean, this can cut both ways. The point is, we want to use science, we want doctors and -- and medical experts to be making
decisions that all too often right now are driven by skewed policies, by out-dated means of reimbursement, or by insurance companies. And everybody's families, I think, have had to experience this in one way or another. That's -- that's the reason we need reform right now.
GIBSON: We're going to take one more commercial break, Mr. President. When we come back, we're going to get into the issue of whether or not in a reform measure there should government insurance for people, because a lot of people are very uncomfortable with that idea.

"Prescription for America" continues.

a lack of paid sick leave,

The most Vulnerable were on social security, by far a great majority of Americans have health insurance and sick leave through work. Most people have voluntarily quarantine themselves when told they could be exposed.

and apolitical class that has downplayed the threat could mean it spreads more quickly than in other countries.

By far the political class and the media are engaged in shameless fear mongering they are certainly not downplaying the event. And contrary to the claim it is not spreading faster then in other countries, in Italy it's spreading like wildfire, as it is in Great Britain. The problem with corona virus is that in a young, healthy person the symptoms are so mild the you can't tell the difference between a cold or the flu. This factor more that any other leads to the spread of the virus.

None of you are interested in facts, I know, but:
_____________

THE CONSERVATIVE PJ MEDIA CLAIM:
Surely, St. Barack of Obama would have dealt with this horrible pandemic better than Orange Man Bad, right? No-Drama-Obama had this whole thing under control, of course!

Well, let’s compare and contrast…

Now, let’s go to the Wayback Machine. In April of 2009, the H1N1 became a pandemic.

But it wasn’t until six months later, October, that then-President Obama declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic. By that time, the disease had infected millions of Americans and more than 1,000 people had died in the U.S.
____________

FACT CHECK (SNOPES):
There are several factual inaccuracies in this excerpt alone. For instance, PJ media writes that H1N1 became a pandemic in April 2009. But that’s not the case. The disease emerged in April but wasn’t declared a pandemic until June.

The excerpt also claims that Obama “declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic” in October 2009. But this is also wrong. Obama declared a national emergency, not a public health emergency, in October 2009. The Obama administration declared a public health emergency in April, months before swine flu was declared a pandemic. At the time that the Obama administration declared a public health emergency, only 20 confirmed cases (not over a million) of H1N1 existed in the United States.

The New York Times reported on April 26, 2009:
Responding to what some health officials feared could be the leading edge of a global pandemic emerging from Mexico, American health officials declared a public health emergency on Sunday as 20 cases of swine flu were confirmed in this country, including eight in New York City.
[…] The emergency declaration in the United States lets the government free more money for antiviral drugs and give some previously unapproved tests and drugs to children. One-quarter of the national stockpile of 50 million courses of antiflu drugs will be released.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

PJ Media also inaccurately presented a video in the article as if it showed Obama addressing the swine flu after it had “already become a pandemic.” Again, that simply isn’t the case. When Obama addressed the nation about swine flu, or H1N1, in April 2009, the disease was just starting to spread. It wouldn’t be until June 2009 that the swine flu would be declared a pandemic.

The swine flu pandemic spread quickly across the United States starting in April 2009. There were approximately 60 million cases over the course of the following year, which resulted in nearly 275,000 hospitalizations and more than 12,000 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a detailed timeline of this pandemic on its website. It shows that the CDC first activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on April 22, 2009. At the time, there were only two confirmed cases in the United States. On April 25, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of international concern, and the following day the Obama administration did the same. At that time, there were about 20 confirmed cases.

Despite the CDC’s efforts, the swine flu continued to spread. Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of health and human services, renewed the emergency declaration on July 24, 2009, and then again on Oct. 1, 2009. On Oct. 24, 2009, Obama declared a national emergency that gave officials more resources to fight the pandemic.

The Associated Press reported:
President Barack Obama has declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency, giving his health chief the power to let hospitals move emergency rooms offsite to speed treatment and protect noninfected patients.

The declaration, signed Friday night and announced Saturday, comes with the disease more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays undercutting the government’s initial, optimistic estimates that as many as 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October.

[…]

On April 26, the administration declared swine flu a public health emergency, allowing the shipment of roughly 12 million doses of flu-fighting medications from a federal stockpile to states in case they eventually needed them. At the time, there were 20 confirmed cases in the U.S. of people recovering easily. There was no vaccine against swine flu, but the CDC had taken the initial step necessary for producing one.

“As a nation, we have prepared at all levels of government, and as individuals and communities, taking unprecedented steps to counter the emerging pandemic,” Obama wrote in Saturday’s declaration.

In sum, the PJ Media article claimed that Obama “waited” until millions of people were infected with H1N1 before he declared an “emergency.” But that isn’t the case. The Obama administration started to address H1N1 just as the disease emerged in April 2009. A public health emergency was declared on April 26, 2009, when there were about 20 confirmed cases in the United States. The Obama administration renewed this declaration twice in the ensuing months before declaring a national emergency in October 2009.

This factoid says you should be more afraid of the flu than the corona virus;

So far, the CDC has estimated (based on weekly influenza surveillance data) that at least 12,000 people have died from influenza between Oct. 1, 2019 through Feb. 1, 2020, and the number of deaths may be as high as 30,000.

The death toll in the US from corona virius is 17.

The worldwide death toll is 3501.

The economy of Denmark is a modern market economy with comfortable living standards, a high level of government services and transfers, and a high dependence on foreign trade. The economy is dominated by the service sector with 80% of all jobs, whereas about 11% of all employees work in manufacturing and 2% in agriculture. Nominal gross national income per capita was the tenth-highest in the world at $55,220 in 2017.

Correcting for purchasing power, per capita income was Int$52,390 or 16th-highest globally.[24] Income distribution is relatively equal, but inequality has increased somewhat during the last decades, however, due to both a larger spread in gross incomes and various economic policy measures.[25] In 2017, Denmark had the seventh-lowest Gini coefficient (a measure of economic inequality) of the 28 European Union countries.[26] With 5,789,957 inhabitants (1 July 2018),[27] Denmark has the 39th largest national economy in the world measured by nominal gross domestic product (GDP) and 60th largest in the world measured by purchasing power parity (PPP).

As a small open economy, Denmark generally advocates a liberal trade policy, and its exports as well as imports make up circa 50% of GDP. Since 1990 Denmark has consistently had a current account surplus, with the sole exception of 1998. As a consequence, the country has become a considerable creditor nation, having acquired a net international investment position amounting to 65% of GDP in 2018. A decisive reason for this are the widespread compulsory funded labour market pensions schemes which have caused a considerable increase in private savings rates and today play an important role for the economy.

Denmark is an example of the Nordic model, characterized by an internationally high tax level, and a correspondingly high level of government-provided services (e.g. health care, child care and education services) and income transfers to various groups like retired or disabled people, unemployed persons, students, etc. Altogether, the amount of revenue from taxes paid in 2017 amounted to 46.1% of GDP. Danish fiscal policy is generally considered healthy. Net government debt is very close to zero, amounting to 1.3% of GDP in 2017.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Denmark

so... bernie is a fucking liar when he says he wants to emulate the economy of denmark here in the US.

citizens of denmark have chosen their economic model. bernie wants to jam his down our collective throats.

bernie is such a lazy piece of shit he was kicked out of a fucking hippie commune in vermont for being a fucking layabout and not keeping up his end of the collective workload.

The CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL.D.C. is at the nexus of an extraordinary crisis as the number of coronavirus cases worldwide has surpassed 100,000. In response to the outbreak, investors are dumping stocks, businesses and nonprofit organizations are canceling conventions, travelers are calling off spring break vacations, airlines and hotels are laying off workers and schools are suspending study abroad programs

As of Friday evening, the authorities had reported more than 300 coronavirus cases in the United States, and at least 17 people have died. The first cases near the nation’s capital were reported Thursday in a Maryland suburb.

The C.D.C. response has generated concern and criticism among many health experts, who have complained that the agency was slow to react to the spread of the infection and imposed overly restrictive guidelines early on about who could be tested. Mr. Trump himself has come under fire, as well. Among those who lined his motorcade route in Atlanta were people holding up signs that said, “Have Faith in Science” and “We Need a Vaccine Against Trump.”

STEALING FROM WIKIPEDIA, RRB?

Although it is true the Nordic countries offer a capitalist oriented form of socialism, they ARE somewhat socialistic, especially in comparison to the USA.

Look at some of what the wicki article (note that rrb has been quoting wiki) says about 'The Nordic Model'
_______________

The Nordic model has been characterised as follows:
*An elaborate social safety net, in addition to public services such as free education and universal healthcare in a largely tax-funded system.
*Strong property rights, contract enforcement and overall ease of doing business.
*Public pension plans.
*Free trade combined with collective risk sharing (social programs and labour market institutions) which has provided a form of protection against the risks associated with economic openness.
*Little product market regulation. Nordic countries rank very high in product market freedom according to OECD rankings.
*Low levels of corruption. In Transparency International's 2015 Corruption Perceptions Index, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden were ranked among the top 10 least corrupt of the 167 countries evaluated.
*High percentage of workers belonging to a labour union. In 2013, labour union density was 88% in Iceland, 69% in Denmark, 67% in Sweden, 66% in Finland and 51% in Norway. In comparison, labour union density was 18% in Germany, 11% in the United States and 8% in France. The lower union density in Norway is mainly explained by the absence of a Ghent system since 1938. In contrast, Denmark, Finland and Sweden all have union-run unemployment funds.
*A partnership between employers, trade unions and the government, whereby these social partners negotiate the terms to regulating the workplace among themselves, rather than the terms being imposed by law. Sweden has decentralised wage co-ordination while Finland is ranked the least flexible. The changing economic conditions have given rise to fear among workers as well as resistance by trade unions in regards to reforms. At the same time, reforms and favourable economic development seem to have reduced unemployment, which has traditionally been higher. Denmark's Social Democrats managed to push through flexicurity reforms in 1994 and 1996.
*The United Nations World Happiness Reports show that the happiest nations are concentrated in Northern Europe. The Nordics ranked highest on the metrics of real GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on, perceived freedom to make life choices, generosity and freedom from corruption. The Nordic countries place in the top 10 of the World Happiness Report 2018, with Finland and Norway taking the top spots.

Well Reverend Hypocrite...

The CDC is not a political organization... it's a government agency that has 15,000 workers and a budget of nearly 12 billion dollars. 95% plus of the people who work there today worked there before Trump was President.

The fact that people are criticizing the CDC today for their response says 100% more about the people criticizing that it does about the CDC. These are just partisan Trump haters looking for another reason to attack the President.

There is nothing objectively (to this point) that anyone has pointed out could have or should be doing differently. This is a new virus, and you cannot "pretest" for new viruses, and you cannot have vaccines in place prior to the outbreak of a new virus.

Moreover, Reverend Hypocrite... the entire world is suffering from the same issues, lacking fundamental resources to do widespread testing (because testing kits simply take time to make). Certainly, one cannot blame the CDC (or Trump) for what has happened in China, Italy, or anywhere else in the world.

It's a pandemic and it will eventually kill people.

But Trump didn't cause it. He didn't spread it.

The only TANGIBLE disagreement between Democrats and Republicans at this point in time is that DEMOCRATS criticized the President for banning travel from China back in January.

So if it was up to your Senate Democrat, the coronavirus would be much more widespread due to more travel to the most infected country.

It's sickening to watch people use a virus and disparage one of the most respected medical organizations in the world for political benefit!

Shame on you, Reverend Hypocrite. I am sure your god is proud of you using death for your own personal purposes.
