So far, Mike Pence has received almost universal praise for his place at the head of the coronavirus task force. This is a far cry from the mocking that he received from many on the left when he was first placed in charge.
But watching the press conferences and the overall aspect of his leadership, there is no doubt that he is stepping up. There is sort of a quiet reassurance from Mike Pence that you don't get from the President. Sort of the Ying and Yang of leadership.
Perhaps there could be a potential future for Pence if this overall coronavirus situation turns into what most people consider a reasonable success.

GOP Impeachment Votes Were Shortsighted
March 17, 2020 at 9:27 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 129 Comments
Michael Gerson:
“Every time Vice President Pence appears for a coronavirus briefing, it is a reminder what the votes of just 20 Republican senators for impeachment might have accomplished for the republic.
“Pence is no Franklin D. Roosevelt, but neither is he an obviously outmatched leader like his boss. The vice president is a sycophant but not an incompetent. He possesses the type of qualities one might find in an effective governor facing a hurricane. President Trump possesses the qualities one might expect in a shady businessman trying to shift responsibility for bad debt and mismanagement — which was the main leadership qualification on his pre-presidential résumé.
“Never has the phrase ‘President Pence’ had a better ring to it. Never have Republican votes against impeachment seemed more shortsighted and damaging to the country.”
"Soujnds" Not-a-Pastor speaking in gibberish
How close are we to Not-a-Pastor James "400,000" US Deaths.
Auto accident claim 102 a day.
But be careful, Ch. Too much praise of Pence, and Trump will try to fire him.
Exactly correct RRB

Economic Stimulus Balloons to More than $1 Trillion
March 17, 2020 at 1:07 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 23 Comments
“The government’s economic stimulus is set to quickly balloon into trillion-dollar territory in the coming days, the largest rescue in modern American history, as major industries flood the Trump administration and Capitol Hill for aid while huge swaths of the economy stall from the coronavirus crisis,” Politico reports.
“Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will meet with Senate Republicans behind closed doors on Tuesday to present lawmakers with options for aid to airlines, hotels, casinos and small-to-medium-sized businesses.”
_____________
Be sure to bail out the big boys and let the middle class go hurting. That's the Republican way.
Biden, falls, being rush to the Hospital.
Where is this news breaking? I haven't seen anything.
Regarding the trillion dollars, he's talking about stabling the bond market by backing the associated corporate bonds. Without this, we would likely start seeing companies go under and employees lose jobs.
It's a shame that the blogger you idolize doesn't know a damn thing about economics.
Oh, is Ch is hoping for political gain out of this terrible tragedy?
There a difference between the objective political analysis CH does and the gutter sniping you do James.
Rat was right.
James, the Spending is Approved by Nancy Palsy.
"gutter snipe" Exactly what Not-a-Pastor James is.
Biden Falls.... I was mocking James.
James, let's debate.
Are you in favor of a Direct payment to all Adults of $500?
Are you in favor of a tax holiday of SS taxes for both the Small Business owners and hourly wage workers?
Kansas Dim says he was mocking me.
I didn't "fall" for it.
So about the Economic Stimulas questions.
I shouldn't think KDim would be interested in hearing from someone he calls a "gutter snipe."
Commensa above accuses me of "gutter sniping."
I don't see any "gutter sniping" in my 11:23 AM post in the next thread down, addressed to Ch. Seems to me some objective political analysis is called for there.
But I don't see him replying to it, which I think he might find a bit difficult to do.
Iran Warns Virus Could Kill ‘Millions’
March 17, 2020 at 1:39 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 70 Comments
“Iran issued its most dire warning yet Tuesday about the outbreak of the new coronavirus ravaging the country, suggesting ‘millions’ could die in the Islamic Republic if the public keeps traveling and ignoring health guidance,” the AP reports.
“A state television journalist who also is a medical doctor gave the warning only hours after hard-line Shiite faithful the previous night pushed their way into the courtyards of two major shrines that had just been closed over fears of the virus. Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader issued a religious ruling prohibiting ‘unnecessary’ travel in the country.”
White House Backchannels Its Coronavirus Messaging

“As the coronavirus has worsened, members of the task force President Trump has assigned to combat the pandemic have reached out to prominent conservative social-media ‘influencers’ and right-wing TV and radio stars to offer them private briefings and information sessions with Vice President Mike Pence and other top administration officials,” the Daily Beast reports.

Probably because they hope the right wingers will go easier on them as they try to follow up earlier misleading statements with more honest and realistic ones.
And just like that James is defeated in the Debate over ideas.
