- The Democrats’ effort to blame coronavirus on Trump is doomed to fail. Most people simply aren’t that dumb.
- On the contrary, the pandemic shows that Trump was right all along about China. While low wages are superficially attractive, there are many disadvantages to doing business there. In the medium and long terms, coronavirus will boost the American economy.
- So far, voters are entirely indifferent to the Democrats’ attempts to gain political advantage from coronavirus. The Rasmussen Survey hasn’t budged, one way or the other. Today Trump stands at 49%/50% in the rolling approval poll.
- One of the Democrats’ problems with coronavirus is that it isn’t a very threatening disease. The press would have you believe that it is the 21st Century version of the Black Death, but it is actually more like a bad cold.
- The stock market has taken a hit, but it is certain to rebound, and soon. There is no realistic scenario on which the virus, which is fatal overwhelmingly to elderly and unhealthy people, adversely impacts our economy to a significant extent. It is the panic which now affects our economy, not the disease. By November that will be obvious.
- Early on, President Trump did the right thing: he tried to damp down the panic, while at the same time taking the measures that would have practical effect, in particular, banning China travel. As press hysteria mounted, he shifted toward visible activism.
- Long before November, it will be obvious to everyone that fear of coronavirus was vastly overblown. That is my opinion, anyway. In that scenario, Democratic attacks on Trump’s handling of a “crisis” that fizzled will be ineffective at best.
- Then again, maybe I am wrong. Maybe by November coronavirus hasn’t dissipated and people are worried about it. What then? In a crisis of any kind–war, depression, epidemic–most people want a strong executive. This is an instinctive preference. If we are under a serious threat, we want a strong, effective person to lead us. That impulse has been consistent for thousands of years.
Most people are avoiding the obvious political ramifications of the coronavirus. There is a reason why Republicans and Democrats are seeing this differently, and it's not because one side is stupid or ill informed. Quite literally we are being told different things based on which media outlets we use.
I think the early advantage in a situation like this is panic. Much easier psychologically to scare people and put them on edge as it is to calm people and keep them reassured. Once people are panicked, the concept of calm and reassurance can come across as insensitivity and discounting of something that the panicked are worried about. Someone remaining calm can be accused of not taking it seriously.
But I think Hinderaker's analysis is difficult to argue with. If you relied on the CDC and State medical boards, rather than the media and politicians, things would be quite a bit different. For instance, our local school district continues to send out coronavirus updates, which includes the reality that the CDC is not recommending that schools close at this time.
What that means is that every school district that closes, is quite literally "not" listening to the CDC (the Center of Disease Control) which is made up educated experts in the field of viruses, diseases, and how to control them. These are decisions being made by government officials or school boards which is being entirely driven by panic.
Same could be argued in places like Seattle here, where many things have literally been shut down at the authority of the Governor. This is happening even as the CDC tells that there is no evidence at this time that people are contracting the coronavirus through anything other than close contact with someone showing symptoms. The CDC suggests that it's possible that you contract it from someone not showing symptoms or by contact with a neutral surface, but that it's not the working manner in which it is being passed right now. That could certainly change, but stories of people picking up coronavirus by touching a surface is at best the exception to the general rule (or at worst a working throry) rather than anything that is actually happening to any extent.
To error on the side of caution is generally a good thing. But to overreact at the risk of throwing us into a global recession is irresponsible. The bottom line is that if this fizzles out or falls short of the numbers we saw during the swine flu, there will be an objective reality that our President did NOT screw things up, like liberals are claiming (aka: shouting at the top of their lungs) right now.

How Trump Bungled the Coronavirus Response
March 14, 2020 at 1:38 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 204 Comments
NBC News:
“An examination of how the Trump administration responded to the coronavirus outbreak that was first documented in December reveals a story of missed opportunities, mismanagement and a president who resisted the advice of experts urging a more aggressive response. All the while, Trump made a series of upbeat claims, some of which were flatly false, including that the number of cases was declining in the U.S. and that ‘anybody who needs a test gets a test.'”
“Trump’s own advisers acknowledged that the failure to focus on widespread testing was their biggest misstep.
Also interesting: “The Trump White House continued to balk at health professionals who wanted to issue stark advice… One example: The CDC wanted to recommend that anyone over 60 remain inside their homes whenever possible, but was told not to say that by Trump administration officials.
Trump Is Breaking Every Rule In CDC Playbook

Washington Post:
“Amid an outbreak where vaccines, drug treatments and even sufficient testing don’t yet exist, communication that is delivered early, accurately and credibly is the strongest medicine in the government’s arsenal.
“But the Trump administration’s zigzagging, defensive, inconsistent messages about the novel coronavirus continued Friday>, breaking almost every rule in the book and eroding the most powerful weapon officials possess: Public trust.”
After all this, Ch approvingly quotes this:
but it is actually more like a bad cold.

most inconsistent or

Italy experienced a surge in demand for health services far in excess of what it was able to supply after failing to effectively manage the virus’s spread. Their inadequate supply of ventilator machines, which help move air into the lungs of patients that have difficulty breathing, proved particularly problematic. The shortage forced Italy to make hard choices regarding the use of limited resources, resulting in more deaths than would have otherwise occurred if the virus had spread at a slower rate. Indeed, the mortality rate associated with COVID-19 rises substantially when health system systems become overwhelmed, as illustrated in the graphic below.

Is the United States similarly ill-prepared?
One encouraging sign for the United States is our high number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds per person. The density of ICU beds is a significant indicator of coronavirus preparedness because ICU beds are typically equipped with ventilator machines, which are lifesaving in cases of respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19. Even compared with similarly wealthy countries, the number of ICU beds per person in the United States is exceptionally high.

CH CORRECTLY OBSERVED:
Quite literally we are being told different things based on which media outlets we use.
Yet even that is not entirely true, for even Fox News can be more consistent with what we are hearing from the real experts by admitting that their own commentators have distorted and misrepresented the facts:
__________
A leaked internal memo at Fox News shows that the network has told its staff very different things than its on-air hosts [told their] viewers, who are on average around 65 years old and have a higher risk of severe illness from the virus.
...
And again,
Even some Fox News staffers have complained that the network's coverage could harm their very own viewers.
"The attempt to deflect and blame the media and Democrats," one Fox producer told CNN's Brian Stelter, "from Trish Regan, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Lou Dobbs, Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld — instead of addressing the coronavirus — is really irresponsible and hazardous to our viewers."
Laura Ingraham
@IngrahamAngle
Anonymous CNN producer: As the virus spreads, “the attempt to remain relevant by Brian Stelter provides much-needed comic relief during a challenging time.”

I would like to thank Cali for drawing our attention (at 2:32) to the Niskanen Center which has a healthy attitude about Trump:
A Niskanen Center Conference
Panelists include:
David Frum, William Kristol, Mike Murphy,Jennifer Rubin
December 11, 2018
Donald Trump has had a hurricane-like effect on the Republican Party. The 2018 midterm elections have forced center-right Americans to reconsider their relationship to the Trump-driven conservative populism that has come to dominate the GOP.
The Niskanen Center will present an important public analysis of this new political reality, featuring conversations with some of the nation’s leading thinkers and activists on the center-right. Panels will focus on political prospects for a new center-right, and the policy ideas and ideals that can revitalize the post-Trump Republican Party.
Sure needs "revitalizing."

CNN lied to their viewers for 2 years about Russian Collusion. Why would anyone take them seriously on anything?
Yesterday Not a Pastor James could not run in here in heals, skirt lifted breathlessly giving us the "Heidi Klum drama" , so wats up with her today?
Oh all of her fans and friends and the Doctors that heard he sob oh woo is me story, no one rallied to aid her?
"Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, Heidi Klum and Other Celebs "
Making It cool, right.
Somehow I don't think a FOX producer would ever talk to Brian Stelter and if he/she ever did he/she wouldn't be a FOX producer for very long.
I personally never have seen the misinformation and hysteria that is typically on CNN and MSDNC on Fox News. It's pretty much straight reporting from the CDC.
No Conspiracy theories like in CNN.

I'd not heard this before. French head of ER explaining why Italy suffered so badly. i) Italy has poor primary care so everyone went to hospital ii) Covid-19 patients then got mixed in with other patients. iii) Failure to isolate patients suspected of having the virus.

Nice try...probably only proved the US will soon be in deep shit like Italy......
oh Joe.
😃Grandpa Joe Biden wants to run the country and save us from coronavirus when he can’t even run a livestream and has no idea what year it is.
On Friday, Grandpa Joe held what his campaign billed as a “virtual town hall” in Illinois. In my colleague Kyle Olson’s must-read reporting on the event, you will discover the whole thing was a fiasco, like something out of a sitcom. Guests appeared and then disappeared. The sound was garbled. People were introduced, followed by an awkward pause when they didn’t appear.😃
Technology eludes him like it does the Three Socialist Stooges of CHT .
The goat fucker again showing that life is passing him by ...no job, no hobbies....no fucking life but posting out his old white ass!!!!!

This is why they are hiding Slow Confused Joe.
Hey fatty did those voices you heard, yesterday, explain ventilators are needed in ICU and Italy is woefully short meaning their fictional lead in ICU beds is irrelevant?
France and Spain In Lock Down
March 14, 2020 at 4:38 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 226 Comments
Time:
“France ordered the closing of just about everything the rest of the world loves about it — the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the cafes, restaurants and cinema — and Spain drew up plans Saturday to lock down its 46 million citizens as governments took increasingly desperate measures to put more space between people and contain the coronavirus.”
Ch and Trump need to go over there and tell them "but it is actually more like a bad cold."
Joe Biden is the best the Democrats got.
Wow, sad af.
Hey drunkard......you really have been triggered trying to prove you decade old post was real.....BWAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! How long did you spend trying to prove the info I heard was wrong.....How many cocktails did you consume in that time period...You feel better now?????/ Wow....and I thought the goat fucker was disturbed!!!!!!
"The Bernie Bros are vowing revenge.
As the presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders continues to crash and burn, the socialist’s most hard-core supporters are vowing they will never vote for Joe Biden at the ballot box — even if that means handing Trump a second term.
“We will never – NEVER boost or support Joe Biden or defend his abysmal record and terrible policy positions,” Henry Williams, executive director of The Gravel Institute, told The Post. “We will tell people, as we always have, to vote their conscience and to make decisions based on the interests of all the world’s oppressed people … I do expect a massive exodus from the Democratic Party.”
IOW you made it up AND aren’t man enough to admit it, eh fatman?
Proving you wrong is very easy and doesn’t require any time or effort, you’re not bright.
Now go inhale a pie, my works here is done
LMAO
IOW......I heard it on the news!!!! I really don't give a shit what you think since all you do is prove what a giant ass you are....The only thing you proved is that you were triggered and the US is in deep shit being as unprepared we are.....Now go have another vodka and calm down!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAA!!! You win since you KNOW everything!!!!!!!! Funny how you cannot admit your original post was bullshit and you never read it.....Oh well......that you really win on!!!!!
Dopie you admitted you are unprepared.
That was a very funny moment on CHT Blog.
For most people, yes it is like a bad cold. If you read anything besides that horse's ass Goddard you would know this
Europe didn't shut down travel to China. That's one of the reasons they are in this mess now. The other reason is they all bought into socialized medicine.
Medicare for All anybody?
France and Spain are locking down over "a bad cold"?
The EUROPEAN union was for open borders until the China virus hit. They close off their countries. Taking a very Nationalist view of things.
France is taking a France First Position.
Italy did the same
So is Spain.
EU are two faced.
France and Spain are locking down over "a bad cold"?
No France and Spain are locking down over years of fuckups by politicians.
Their citizens are paying the price for them ignoring their medical infrastructure
Many of them who will die would have lived if they had adequate medical care.
Look how the Three Socialist Stooges of CHT would rather be in other countries.
Me, nope, USA greatest Nation in the World.
