NEW YORK (AP) — The White House overruled health officials who wanted to recommend that elderly and physically fragile Americans be advised not to fly on commercial airlines because of the new coronavirus, a federal official told The Associated Press.
In a tweet, the press secretary for Vice President Mike Pence, Katie Miller, said that “it was never a recommendation to the Task Force” and called the AP story “complete fiction.”
On Friday, the CDC quietly updated its website to tell older adults and people with severe medical conditions such as heart, lung or kidney disease to “stay home as much as possible” and avoid crowds. It urges those people to “take actions to reduce your risk of exposure,” but it doesn’t specifically address flying.Let's start with the fact that the CDC website DOES specifically cover travel. From the CDC website:
Alert Level 2: Because COVID-19 can be more serious in older adults and those with chronic medical conditions, people in these groups should talk to a healthcare provider and consider postponing travel to destinations with level 2 travel notices. So the second fact we want to go with is to simply not listen to the media on these matters. They quite literally are either ignorant, lying, or both. It's clear that there are people within the media who would like nothing else than to spread panic and lay the blame at the feet of the Administration and the President (entirely for political reasons).
I think the third key here is not to listen to the random doctor or two who demands that everyone should be come a hermit, but rather to listen to the former CDC director who understands that these sorts of "blanket" warnings are difficult.
Dr. Tom Frieden, a former CDC director, said whether to recommend the frail and elderly avoid air travel is “a difficult question,” but clearly this is a time when such conversations should be taking place. The truth is that we have a President who is 74 years old, and two candidates from the Democratic side who are 77 and 78. Our Speaker of the House is 79, over a dozen members of Congress are in their 80s, and over 70% of Senators are 70 or older. We have two USSC Justices in their 80s and two others who are in their 70s.
None of these people (according to the supposed proposed guidance) would be allowed to travel? Yet, they are technically the people who run our Government and are tasked to oversee the situation. Does anyone else understand why these people might find it difficult to simply issue a blanket statement that senior citizens (such as themselves) not be allowed to fly?
Let's be crystal clear. A demand from our Federal Government that people over a certain age not be allowed to fly (or even a strong recommendation) would be inherently unconstitutional and inherently dangerous. It would create even a bigger panic, and would likely make people avoid the elderly or harass them if they attempted to do things like travel or simply go to a restaurant.
This is why the idea that the CDC wanted to issue such a blanket statement to "older adults" is highly questionable. More to the point, the directive to squash such a statement would have come from the legal experts prior to ever making it to anyone in the White House.

I sure will listen to Dr. LIl Schitty rather than the experts......since you know lots of people your own age who need help deciding when and where to travel.....because they don't know any better.....lets just get rid of all laws and government since you are infinitely smarter than everyone and people should just do what they like instead of having to be told like children...Your lack of cogent point but posting a knee jerk reaction to what may be a perfectly logical government action speaks volumes.....just do whatever, people don't need the government to tell them what they must do.....IOW's anarchy is your goal!!!!!!!
Blah blah blah!!1
Well Denny, what the CDC DID actually post and what they are actually recommending is THE PERFECTLY LOGICAL GOVERNMENT reaction.
What the AP suggested certain people in the CDC wanted to do was irrational, unconstitutional, and ridiculous.
I 100% believe Mike Pence who stated that there never any such suggestion about people over 70 being asked not to fly. The very concept that anyone would believe such nonsense is only overtaken by stupidity by the reality that there are simply people (too far gone) that will believe it.
Official: White House didn’t want to tell seniors not to fly

NEW YORK (AP) — The White House overruled health officials who wanted to recommend that elderly and physically fragile Americans be advised not to fly on commercial airlines because of the new coronavirus, a federal official told The Associated Press.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention submitted the plan as a way of trying to control the virus, but White House officials ordered the air travel recommendation be removed, said the official who had direct knowledge of the plan. Trump administration officials have since suggested certain people should consider not traveling, but have stopped short of the stronger guidance sought by the CDC.
The person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity did not have authorization to talk about the matter. The person did not have direct knowledge about why the decision to kill the language was made or who made the call.
Administration officials disputed the person’s account. In a tweet, the press secretary for Vice President Mike Pence, Katie Miller, said that “it was never a recommendation to the Task Force” and called the AP story “complete fiction.”
NOTICE THAT PENCE HIMSELF DID NOT SAY THAT.
On Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci — the head of infectious diseases at the National Institutes of Health and a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force — said “no one overruled anybody.”
On Friday, the CDC quietly updated its website to tell older adults and people with severe medical conditions such as heart, lung or kidney disease to “stay home as much as possible” and avoid crowds. It urges those people to “take actions to reduce your risk of exposure,” but it doesn’t specifically address flying.
Pence, speaking Saturday after meeting with cruise ship industry leaders in Florida, targeted his travel advice to a narrower group: older people with serious health problems.
“If you’re a senior citizen with a serious underlying health condition, this would be a good time to practice common sense and to avoid activities including traveling on a cruise line,” Pence said, adding they were looking to cruise line officials for action, guidance and flexibility with those passengers.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar suggested older Americans and those with health problems should avoid crowds “especially in poorly ventilated spaces.”
LIKE AIRPLANES?
Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” Fauci said people with underlying conditions — particularly those who are elderly — should take steps to distance themselves from the risk of infection, including avoiding crowds and long plane trips “and above all don’t get on a cruise ship,” he said.
“No one has told us not to say that,” he added.
For most people, the flu-like viral illness causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. But — like the flu — it can cause pneumonia and be much more lethal to people made frail by old age and by conditions that make it harder for their bodies to fight infections.
Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of tropical medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, last week warned U.S. lawmakers against minimizing the viruses risk for vulnerable people. During a Congressional hearing, he said the coronavirus “is like the angel of death for older individuals.”
Some experts said they’ve been hoping for clearer and louder guidance from the government, to prod vulnerable people to take every possible step to avoid settings where they might more easily become infected.
“The clear message to people who fit into those categories is; ‘You ought to become a semi-hermit. You’ve got to really get serious in your personal life about social distancing, and in particular avoiding crowds of any kind,’” said Dr. William Schaffner, a Vanderbilt University expert on infectious diseases.
That can include not only avoiding essential commercial travel but also large church services and crowded restaurants, he added.
Dr. Tom Frieden, a former CDC director, said whether to recommend the frail and elderly avoid air travel is “a difficult question,” but clearly this is a time when such conversations should be taking place.
“At this point the risk in the U.S. remains low, but we are seeing it spread rapidly. We are going from the calm before the storm to the beginning of the storm,” said Frieden, who now heads Resolve to Save Lives, an organization promoting global public health.
The new virus is a member of the coronavirus family that can cause colds or more serious illnesses such as SARS and MERS. Health officials think it spreads mainly from droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how the flu spreads.
The virus first emerged late last year in mainland China, but this year has increasingly been spreading around the world. More than 100,000 illnesses have been reported globally, in more than 90 countries and territories. the count includes more than 3,500 deaths.
For weeks, cases in the U.S. remained very low, but the count has been accelerating in the last several days.
President Donald Trump visited the CDC in Atlanta on Friday, where he defended his administration’s handling of the outbreak and tried to reassure Americans that the government had the virus under control. But Trump also detoured from that message, calling Washington state’s governor a “snake” and saying he’d prefer that people exposed to the virus on a cruise ship be left aboard so they wouldn’t be added to the nation’s tally.
Sounds like the "FAKE NEWS" is the denial that certain language was removed.
Tell us when you will be walking the streets of your town yelling "Bring out your dead".
This Crazy Bitch sounds like the three Socialist Stooges of CHT.
"Clinton said, “I’ll tell you what I make of it, is that Fox and the sort of right-wing echo chamber has mastered Facebook, added and abetted, I might say by Facebook. So I read that article and what that said to me was here it’s Super Tuesday, the Democrats are trying to decide who they want to nominate against Donald Trump, the Coronavirus is spreading, we now have more and more reports from different places in the country, but led by Fox News and Breitbart and others, it’s going to be about my e-mails. A totally, you know, bogus, finished, nonsense attack on me because they know how not only to drive those stories ."
Which race baiting whore does it better.
Washington (AFP) – Senator Kamala Harris endorsed Joe Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination Sunday, while his chief rival Bernie Sanders won the backing of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.
This is getting very ugly.
Sounds like the "FAKE NEWS" is the denial that certain language was removed.
I just have one question, Reverend...
Did you not think that I read the story that I linked from?
Are you really that daft?
Either the "one official" was wrong, stupid, lying, or otherwise trying to inject more "politics" into the virus. Nobody with any authority has suggested that the CDC was EVER going to put out some notice that "elderly people" (or people over 70 as has been reported) couldn't or shouldn't travel.
Moreover James...
IF YOU BOTHERED TO READ THE CDC WEBSITE RATHER THAN THE MEDIA
You would know that they were wrong and that the CDC already had something in their travel area (that was not quietly added to the website). That something was a completely appropriate, fair, appropriate (and not legally suspect) that suggests elderly and those with chronic illness should consult their doctor and/or postpone unnecessary travel.
Which of course... as any doctor would tell you. Determining something like in bulk (rather than on a case by case basis with the help of physicians who know the people in general) would not be medically sound advice and the CDC would never blanket such a medical concept.
How many times are you going to fall for fake news?
Speaking of ridiculous, the media outdid themselves today. First jake rapper was pretending he knows more about the viris than U.S. surgeon General Jerome Adams. Then the wash post calls Bernie the Reagan of the left. And the topper was Chuck Todd, who called the virus analogous to Carter's iran hostage crisis. What a horse's ass he has become.
😅How many times are you going to fall for fake news😀
We know that answer.
I liked Jerome Adams schooling Jake tapper, telling him I was on the room. This Is what was said.

The New York Times is an embarrassment to journalism. They were a dead paper before I went into politics, and they will be a dead paper after I leave, which will be in 5 years. Fake News is the Enemy of the people!

The reality is that Reverend Hypocrite "is" a senior citizen.
The fact that he would prefer that the Government make HIS traveling decisions for him is indicative of the sort of mindset that liberals have.
But just because people like the Reverend want the Government to make his travel decisions for HIM, doesn't mean that other more independent and competent seniors don't still feel lucid enough and experienced enough to make their own judgement call.
If liberals want to go into next election telling anyone over the age of 70 that they must allow the Government to make their personal life decisions, they are going to get VERY FEW votes from people over the age of 70.
But just because people like the Reverend want the Government to make his travel decisions for HIM, doesn't mean that other more independent and competent seniors don't still feel lucid enough and experienced enough to make their own judgement call.
Fatty calls that anarchy.
We need to work on getting better liberal trolls, the ones here are just stupid
Dennis is an useful idiot
